Typically quaint pub. Nice man at the counter. Prices are really ok. A pizza and Guinness about £15. If you're looking for something to do in the area in the evening, it's certainly a good choice.

I recently visited your pub last Friday and had an extremely disappointing experience with the bartender. From the moment we walked in, the bartender was unfriendly and seemed annoyed by our presence. When we approached the bar to order, he ignored us for several minutes despite there being no other customers waiting. When we finally got his attention, he was incredibly rude and dismissive. He made us feel unwelcome and acted as if serving us was a huge inconvenience. We visit the pub every Friday night because of the garden and you guys serve the best Guinness out here. I had never had this experience and never expected to. The bartender with a cap and an Italian accent, I suppose, was very rude. He filled up our Guinnesses 3/4 and the rest was all foamed up. I went back to ask him to fill the glass up because I did not pay for having 70% of the beer obviously. He totally ignored me and told me to my face that I have to adjust with whatever I was served regarding the quantity. Another bartender who was a bit older was very kind enough to fill it up. The older bartender was very polite since our arrival and treated us like valued customers. The other bartender with the Italian kind of accent was visibly upset by this and teased the older bartender very badly in front of all the customers. I really felt bad for him. The next time we ordered, we had our beers filled up by the older guy, who perfectly filled our glasses up. I mentioned to the rude bartender that 'this is how we wanted the beers'. At that instance, he came out from the till up to my face saying 'I will throw you out if you say something like this here after.' Later when we went to the entrance for a smoke, he came out to pick a fight with me. As he was really close to my face and speaking, with him showering his spit all over, I asked him to move a bit back. He then spat on my hand. I was all ready to have a fight, but even me acting all unprofessional is not going to make a difference between me and him. He told me that he is the owner of the pub and he is throwing us out and not welcoming us hereafter. And I have no plans to visit you guys hereafter too. I know this is not going to make any difference but would be great if everyone came to know about that bartender. But if so, I would really appreciate it.

My boyfriend and I have just moved to the area and I visited with my parents Wed 3 July 24. The staff were friendly, enthusiastic and helpful, the food was delicious and the inside and beer garden have been decorated with care. A lovely spot that we hope will turn into our local for years to come!

The space looked lovely and garden is set up really nicely. I just popped in for drinks with my partner and the dog, sadly the disco lights and very loud music 🎶 has put me off returning. I hear the pizzas are nice but would need confidence it is not a party night to come back here 😕

This place could be so much more. The booze is constantly running low and beers are flat. I used to go in here often but management now want something on every night! We sometimes want a quiet Friday night in a pub not karaoke every week!!! At least consider karaoke once a month but each week is killing it. Instead of paying a karaoke or DJ every night lower the prices or offer proper pub food. No opportunity for a quiet Bev with some background music!

I would highly recommend sitting in the garden as it’s spacious and sunny. The inside of the pub is a bit dingy and the “dj” playing incredibly loud music on a Sunday at lunch time was a bit off putting. We ordered some pizzas and we were all pleasantly surprised at how wonderful they were!! I would really recommend grabbing one as they’re priced well and delicious.

This used to be the West Ham pub when they played in Upton Park - used to avoid it then because it was dangerous... You should avoid it now too

Visited the red lion, to try and have a pint and watch the football after googling “sports bar near me” but found out that they don’t show sports on tv and was just left with a pint of Guinness, the lady behind the bar seemed pleasant but overall just your average pub.

We hired the upstairs function room for our 6 year olds birthday party on a weekend afternoon. Aleks is very easy to organise the details with and Peter who was our host on the day was extremely accommodating. The space was perfect for a kids party, plenty of space for our Entertainer and for them to run around and dance whilst the adults could socialise. We preordered pizzas for everyone and they were enjoyed by all. Highly recommend it for a venue if you’re looking for a party space, it has everything you need, I would definitely book the space again. Thank you Red Lion Team!

Just had a few drinks, they played music, pretty loudly but a nice night

The Sunday roast it was horrible,the Yorkshire pudding it was saggy look likes frittata,the potatoes was old,the tomato sauce instead of gravy it was horrible,not salt at all,the portions all different size.just the chips and the garlic bread it was ok my daughter fish fingers overcooked.the waitress just passed the hot food over the pushchair.🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️we never gonna come anymore here.disgusting Nb:on the Sunday roast it should be a GRAVY and not a tomato sauce!!!!

I've visited the pub in Sept 2023 and this is a £14.50 Fish & Chips from the pub's 'Gastro Menu' that was served for me. When I pointed out to the shift leader/supervisor that this was not adequate, poor quality, poor presentation, etc. He told me that 'You got what you ordered, fish and chips'. And that they put 'quality over quantity'. And then he told me that the only think he can do for me is to give the email address of the owner. Basically very poor customer service, and poor quality food.

Chess on Tuesday was new for me, but I enjoyed it.

My wife and I got married at East Ham Town Hall in July and had our reception here. The pub has a big garden and you can hire the whole place for the day + food for a very reasonable price. We had 150 guests and thanks to the efforts of landlady Aleks + staff had an amazing day. The food (buffet) was great, the garden is perfect for a summer party, and there is a function room + soundsystem. Aleks allowed us in early on the day to decorate the place and no request was too much. Definitely recommend this pub, for hire or just a pint and some food (they do good pizzas and Sunday roasts).

Rude, lazy and grubby looking waiter that was “too good” to help customers and would rather be either flirting with the waitress or chin wagging with the guy sitting at the bar leaving the customers standing there.

Really poor service! Arrogant, rude and lazy waiter (tall one, dark hair). It's a shame that they keep this kind of staff working when there are many people looking for work.

Really cute pub. Seats out back were nice and comfy. Service with a smile... which gave me a big smile Bar staff were patient, helpful, and willing to please. The foods really good too ^.^ the truffle tagliatelle is boom and every pizza I've tried so far has been delicious, fresh and well cooked. The tomato sauce used on the pizza tastes home made and authentic and there are only ever fresh herbs in sight! Best pizza in the area that I've found and many of the other customers agree whenever I get chatting to them while I'm there. Quite a friendly little community that goes in this pub who are always willing to have a little chin wag and often people are offering to buy eachother drinks. Love this pub but the pizza is getting worse each time we go. 4 of us went, 3 of us couldnt finish the pizza - too greasy or just terrible tasting. There is too much cheese and the tomato base tastes jarred, the pizza is often greasy and tastes more like a domino's than a Sourdough pizza. Ditch the grated mozzarella and dried herbs!!!

I was promised a great pizza and I was a bit suspicious. If someone promises great pizza, especially in a pub, it's very rarely true. This was one of those rare exceptions, though. The sourdough base was fantastic, the toppings were great. The staff is nice, friendly and efficient. And the mums even got a glass of bubbly (it was mothers' day). Thanks for the hospitality!

Possibly the best pizza ever (and I’ve tried a lot!!!) Initially booked thinking we could have the roast but for whatever reason they weren’t on this weekend. However, the pizza was epic, great service and a nice glass of Prosecco for Mother’s Day. Definitely recommend

Probably the worst pizza I’ve had, it was basically cheese on toast, and they charge 12% service when ordering at the bar.

Came here for the Wednesday pub quiz for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. The decor is shoreditch-esque and trendy inside & the quiz was great fun with decent bar tab & cash prizes! Planning on coming back again.

Terrible Service and extremely unorganised. Had 3 people at the table we ordered garlic bread, two margaritas and 1 other pizza. Took them so long to get out anything. Finally they come out with the two margaritas, 10 mins later the garlic bread, then after a huge wait (by this time we had finished eating the margaritas and the garlic bread) My poor dad had been waiting for ages and finally got his pizza after the entire table had already finished. Totally unprofessional service Asked for cutlery countless times (spoiler: they never brought it for us) Finished my meal by the time they had even brought out the other coke Id ordered 20mins ago. The best part was that the restaurant was completely empty, literally there was only like 2 other tables that was it. So no excuse for this poor service! Also extremely expensive? The food wasn't even good quality...

Very disappointing. Booked for Sunday lunch today. Food was very bad. Had 2 roast dinners, lasagne and garlic focaccia. Carrots were off. Potatoes were not roasted but hard. Gravy had no flavour. Stuffing with chicken was vile. Asked for my gravy on side with the ONE thin slice of beef!!! Just aswell as the chicken dinner was floating in a gravy boat!! Lasagne was dry and had lumps of burnt bits in it. Garlic focaccia had no garlic on it but a complimentry hair!!. See picture!! Had 2 Pimms which were lacking any alcohol. Asked for a mocktail for my daughter and told they don't do but later overheard the bar staff say she would make a mocktail for another person. We sat out the back in a Pod which was full of cobwebs and the general state of the area was dirty. Paid at the bar and reported my concern to a young girl behind the bar. Her response was, Ok then she just walked away. The price of the food was 4*, the quality was 1*. Felt sick when I saw the hair so had to leave. Had a glimse of the kitchen when walking in from outside and it looked dirty too. Just paid and left as bar staff had no interest in any complaint. Would never enter this place again. Clean the place up please, it's vile. Should have taken many photos but felt sick to my stomach with what i tried to eat.

Terrible service. Struggled to get someone to take drinks order. Food order not processed and no apology just excuses which did not explain how everybody else managed to get their orders apart from us, the only people of colour customers. Not the same since management change.

Rude bar manager. Would not let us in and serve us a pint 45 minutes prior to closing times on a Friday night. We travelled 20 min to get there and were plenty of empty tables in the pub!!! Amend your closing hours or pour that pint FFS!!!!!!

Delicious pizza, decent selection of drinks

Loved the roast the first time I went. On second visit themanager was very rude and also the place does smell like a drain.

Annoying thing is they advertise (online and in the pub) that they show football but then cancel it for no good reason with no notice, so twice I’ve come down for an advertised game and it’s not been on. Overall decent pub but you can’t trust their posts and don’t bother if you want to watch the football as they’ll likely let you down.

Pint of San Miguel is about £4.60 (-ish). Delicious wood fired pizzas. Alright decaf latte. Lovely warm interior - nice big tables by the windows. Decent beer garden too with covered tables to shelter from the rain! Pre-pandemic, decent DJs, quiz nights and I think a bit of live music too. New staff so can’t say too much - they’re professional but I guess they don’t know their regulars yet! Music used to be played far too loud for a pub but they’ve sorted the volume out now.

Not a bad place to eat and socialise. The inside is cosy and comfortable, but due to the size can only accommodate a limited number of people currently. Service from the staff was great and the pizza tasted good. The much larger outside space would benefit from heating when the weather is inclement. Overall worth a visit.

Really friendly bar staff. There are firewood pizzas available there which are very nice and is enough to feed two people. They have an outdoor garden at the back which is dog friendly and if you have older kids then the park is next to the establishment if they want to go and play

Really nice little pub with good atmosphere and range of drinks with friendly staff- think it’s gone through change of management couple times . Proper matter of timing it right when you go as can be rammo and a table hard to find. Only pub in the area where my 66 year old mother can sit there by herself with a drinks and feel comfy!

A really cosy place with excellent pizza, not at all what I was expecting from a pub. They're taking Covid safe measures seriously, and all the hand sanitisers were full. The staff were diligently cleaning after each patron. The team are also lovely, I'll be visiting again for sure

Gave this place a 4* previously but discovered they had a 2* hygiene rating (!!!) recently so contacted them privately to ask if they had any action plans in place to remedy this seeing as we liked to go there regularly and didn't want to stop having the food (but didn't want to keep eating there if it had a hygiene rating worse than most local chicken shops and there was no plan to fix it - particularly as they like to market themselves as a funky, modern pub - better than the likes of say, The Millers - who have a food hygiene rating of 5* btw). Did they have the common courtesy to respond to me? Did they hell. If this is our best local - who have a 2* hygiene rating, portray themselves as something they're not and don't have the inclination to respond to locals (or anyone) who contacts them about plans to improve their ratings then no thanks, I don't want them. They're obviously just typical big chain boys here to make a buck so I'll go that little bit further to those who care about their regulars... we're getting a better selection now anyway.

One of the few nice pubs around Beckton and maybe even Newham. It has a nice collection of ales, outdoor seating and a unique take on wood-fired pizzas.I have brought in a bunch of friends multiple times and everyone is surprised at the quality of this pub in Beckton. Keep it going and once this whole pandemic ends, I hope your pub is filled to the brim and a little over!!

Always have a good experience at the Red Lion. First time visiting since lockdown and all the staff were really helpful and all social distancing measures in place. Really recommend!

Amazing little pub in the east end where the staff are super friendly and drinks are well priced. We often go for the weekly pub quiz on a Wednesday, and would highly recommend you attend one of their events. Alejandro and all the staff make sure your super welcome in this quaint east end pub! Also order some of their sourdough pizzas, there are so many options including vegan and all are delicious!!! Highly recommend you come and visit!

Fantastic artisan pizzas, great beers and a warm welcome in this quirky joint. More like a Hackney pub than an East Ham boozer, this place and the Denmark Arms up the road are the advanced guard of gentrification/hipsterdom to come. Bring it on, I say. Great for families.
