Great pub, but pricey staff and bouncers not particularly friendly

This place needs to be saved from domestic extinction trend. It is a life saver at night in the area.

Great place for a pint and a pie! Had the pie sharing board which was excellent. Good atmosphere and attentive staff.

Racist pub avoid like the plague!! My partner (English gent) and I (Asian) ordered at the bar and got served, I went to the toilet and came back to the bar staff saying that I needed to leave and when asked why they could not give my partner an answer why. The majority of the pub was white not diverse for the location it was in. There are other other pubs nearby that are more welcoming.

Traditional pub opposite No. 10 Downing Street, a bit cramped when there are a lot of people, but it also has its charm. Outdoor seating available.

Really weird tonight - for some reason they made people single file queue to the bar, so the line of people was to the door… When did this weird single file thing become a thing…Covid?? The bar is 10 feet long for a reason. People just pile in to the bar, and politely know who is next to be served. This has been the way for 100s of years. This modern single file queuing thing is infuriating.

Don't allow anything with an English flag.

We had a great time here. The atmosphere was welcoming and relaxed, and the service was very efficient. Everything ran smoothly, and the staff were excellent.

Security not allow you to come inside because they suspicious you like new one which is absolutely disgusting.

Only called for a drink so can't comment on food. Very busy with a lively atmosphere.

A fun historic place with lots London of charm. The drinks were great and the fish and chips were tasty! Definitely an authentic pub experience.

Very small place. I'm a solo traveler, the doorman asked if I was eating and found a table for me. Bartender brought the bill to my table so it wouldn't get taken. The staff were super friendly and helpful to me traveling solo. I'd definitely come back if I'm London again. Extremely courteous staff!!!

Absolutely terrible experience. Went in with a disabled friend and got refused a drink because they thought he was drunk based on the fact he walked with a limp because he had crutches. Been in here once before where I sadly Experienced a similar story. Very sad and very disappointing. Tried to reason with him but the manager was holding firm in a stubborn manor. Will not be back. Avoid at all costs

There was no food, but after sightseeing at Westminster and Big Ben, I went there because of the good reviews. The atmosphere of the store is nice, but it's quite crowded as it's a popular store. The staff were friendly and easy to talk to, and we had a great time.

We loved the Red Lion! We were there for lunch on a Friday & the place was packed, but the waitress was absolutely amazing & did her best to see that everyone was accommodated & happy. She was so friendly & helpful. The pub itself is beautifully restored & has an incredible history to it. Food was very tasty with generous portions. We didn't have the fish & chips. However, from those that we saw- the serving of fish was absolutely huge! Definitely recommend this quintessentially English pub.

Very busy ,great service ,we got there at 11 and had a drink ,food was order at 22 and delivered 15 minutes later

Avoid Jenny, very rude staff…. Ordered 2 x chips, 1 come out the other was no where to be seen, I complained twice, Then pub Manager Jenny said to me ( DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY LIFT STOPS THE FOOD LIFT MAKES IN THIS PUB ) And I need to learn how the lift works in the pub, I asked if she’s honestly the manager, unfortunately she is… such a poor example of great pub service and being chips, it’s not a big dish. She has a rude attitude, feel sorry for the young staff she moans at….got a refund, no food, and went to the Hilton at Trafalgar Square, 5 min walk, WOW what a service and chips were same price,

Very busy obviously due to marathon but toilets were disgusting service was struggling would of expected that this venue based on it's location would of been able to cope such an event based on previous experience, disappointed

Stopped here for lunch. The food was quite good. Highly recommended.

They make you remove anything that has a Palestine flag but Israel flag seems to be ok

Great fish and chip! Girl who runs the show is on top of it. She gets you a table quick! Guinness is also an A+

Discriminate against everyone they can

Was SO disappointed that our booked meal was upstairs and not in the cozy downstairs environment that I had particularly chosen since viewing a lot of pubs online. The upstairs had a cantine feeling and it smelled of old fish. Being Easter Sunday I had also chosen a restaurant that to their own account served traditional Sunday roast but unfortunately, they could not offer that to us. However, staffer was friendly and the portions big and tasty. If I go again I will certain not book in advance to avoid the cantine upstairs.

We had a great time at the Red Lion. You have to book, but with a reservation we have access to a room with plenty of space, a typical English pub atmosphere. The food was very good. Recommended :)

Cannot comment on the food, the beer was fine. It's not going to be £3.50 like a pint in Durham... equally it's in Westminster, not Durham. Each have their benefits, one is closer to Barnard's Castle... Should that be a helpful pointer...

Bien que la nourriture soit bonne, notre expérience a été plus que ratée. Le serveur n’était ni sympathique, ni serviable. Nous avons tenté de poser une question concernant une allergie… Impossible! Il nous renvoyait sans cesse à un QR code et refusait de nous écouter!!! Finalement, une fois le code scanné, il a accepté de nous écouter et a compris son erreur. Malgré tout, il ne s’est pas excusé. De plus, les prix sont exorbitants et l’attente extrêmement longue. Bref, un pub sympa mais le côté attrape-touriste nous a dérangés.

Hi I went there bank holiday Friday and the place shut at 4 pm. We only had time for coffee. The food looked good, the place looked lovely and the toilets were clean. I didn’t enjoy the coffee as it was too strong.

probs nice if ur straight but was hella homophobic to my mates and i after the trans march, made us remove our badges before we came in and continued to harrass us for standing and exisiting

Myself and three other women visited this pub yesterday, after a demonstration in parliament square for one quick drink. After letting half our party in, the bouncer on the door instructed me and the woman I was with to take off our extremely small pin badges, which were partially obstructed by coats, necklaces etc. Mine being a pride flag and the other being the Venus symbol. As half our party had gone in I was obliged to go in. Once in we were stuck for a seat, empty ones being reserved and told not to sit on them. A kind lady sat by herself offered up the rest of her table to us which I accepted. In less than five minutes the bouncer, who was staring at me through the window, came in to tell me off. "What are you doing sat here?? This woman is eating??" To which the lady explained she had offered her seat. From reading these reviews and having the experience I did yesterday it is extremely clear that we are not welcome here. This is highly ironic, as inside had a TV showing the near 20,000 people half a second away from the pub in parliament square, which you can also see from the outside seating. But don't worry those 20,000 people don't want to come to a place with such clear hatred.

I visited this pub just to have a beer! There wasn't a lot of space, but it was still enjoyable enough for the right people. A glass of beer costs about 6.1 pounds, so I thought it was expensive.

Refused entry to myself and my partner and our friends just because we had been to a protest. Outrageous! And when you google it you can see they have done it frequently.

If I could give zero stars I would, one star is still too many. We ate there at the weekend. I've never eaten so badly in my life that I had to leave the food after three bites (we weren't the only ones). We ordered fish & chips. The food tasted like rancid, smelly fat, and the side dishes were also inedible. The waitresses were overwhelmed and unfriendly. The only person who was nice was the security at the door. We ate somewhere else the day before and everything was fine.

Unfortunately, we immediately had a bad interaction with the manager. Before we could even sit down, she was being extremely rude, we had to leave.

Perfect location for people watching. Grab a table on the street early. Order a Black Cab Stout and the Brisket and Cheese nuggets. Outstanding!

Delicious fish and chips, also the salmon salad is delicious and I recommend ESB beer is so good. The hosts is nice and kind!

Honestly, londonian pubs are often tourist traps but this one is a old institution of the english culture and they sold me a real experience with their vision of the Sunday Roast. Next to bigben, the place is inevitable and the mood is amazing here. Historic pub! One of the pubs in London you must visit.

Busy tourist oriented pub. Good beer. Didn't have the food, but it looked excellent. Very sad to find out that the pub closes at 9pm on a Sunday night. The licensing laws state that most pubs close at 10.30 on a Sunday night. Also tourists were served with plastic containers. Not acceptable in this day. Therefore I reduced my score.

Make Reservations! This is the real deal in terms of a London pub. Joset was our bartender downstairs and was a delightful as you can imaging. He arranged our table upstairs and served us there. There was a large tour group and he kept his cool under fire! The fish and chips were authentic and crispy. A fun experience. Thank you, Joset!

Great croquettes and the meat pies are delicious! The Fuller Stout is great as well. It gets a little busy but worth the wait.

Popped in while sight seeing, was desperate for a sit down with kids. Amazing friendly service - greeted at the door by a lovely Scottish lady and they managed to seat us even though really busy. Squeezed us in and ended up ordering bar food and drinks - all staff were great, food was delicious. Great atmosphere. Would definitely come back.

Just arrived home from a fantastic weekend in London, which was topped off with a visit to the Red Lion for Sunday lunch. Our family of four chose different meals from the menu, each meal was served to a high standard, hot, very well presented, perfectly cooked and service with a smile. From the moment we walked in we were made very welcome by all the staff, we will certainly call again when in London without a doubt. Thank you team Red Lion…..

Great welcome at the door, had a great meal on the Saturday and was so impressed we booked for Sunday roast. So pleased we did, everything was perfect, nicely cooked, great portions, friendly waiters and topped off with a little treat of sticky toffee pudding for my sister’s birthday. Perfectly done.

Had a pleasant late lunch here.The pies are lovely, nicely served with superb service. The dining area upstairs is quite small, so booking for times between 12.00-14.30 is essential. Great for visiting the Houses of Parliament then lunch.

We had dinner here before going to the theatre. Lovely fresh food, great Fullers beers, and really nice service. Jose was happy to chat about their wines and the whole experience was excellent. Great position just minutes away for the Houses of Parliament.

Tasty food, classical menu with old style dishes that were delightfully surprising. Nice old decor very well maintained and a good location Out of downsides - quite pricey and noisy, paid over 50 euro for 2 starters and 1 main. Bar is quite popular so you might need to stand and wait for a table .
