Sadly we had to cancel our stay and were unable to attend wedding of very close family members. No food at all (not even a basic breakfast!) no available accommodation nearby or in neighbouring villages. Booking.com information out of date; they even got phone number wrong. Can’t comment on rooms as never got to stay, although they look very dated. For obvious reasons can’t recommend The Red Lion - Llangadog! A family event that we can’t recapture.

Fantastic little pub, and we were greated by Lianne, the Manager with a huge smile. And to add to this, she gave us a bottle of fizz to help celebrate of engagement. The room was large and oldy worldy, stunning bath with over bath shower. Bed was sooooo comfy. Food in the bar, was stunning, and the Juke Box was banging the tunes out Perfect place to stay after stunning walks in the area. See you again in the summer ☀️

We stayed here for a one night stay. The staff are really welcoming, however the room wasn’t that great. The shower basin filled with water when using it. I was only in there for 2 minutes and it was enough to cover my whole foot. There was dust everywhere. The room was so dark which I guess is kind of the theme, but they weren’t very relaxing. The bed sheets were at least clean. I wouldn’t stay here again.

This beautiful old pub is in a fabulous location with rooms decorated with Kings and Queens. It is extremely disappointing that they offer no food at all. Whilst I was told by email after booking that this was the case, I had little time to find anywhere else. The nearest available supermarket/food outlets were a 10 mile round trip. There was a warm welcome from the bar staff. My only other comment is that more attention could have been paid to cleaning the room.

We went for dinner at Red Lion last Friday .. The theme is very classical, a proper restaurant atmosphere 👍.. We had Tapas to share, honestly, it was difficult to choose from the large selection. Chicken, onion pakora, and calamari were stunning!!! I had a braised beef and my other half had a lamb shank. It was just amazing!!! Presentation was Michelin Star quality. The kids had sausages and nuggets with chips and they found it so delicious , which made me try them... it was just spot on.. Perfectly crunchy on the outside and soft and beautifully seasoned inside Service was amazing . The staff were run off their feet but they still found the time to come and chat with us to make sure everything was good Haven’t had such a beautiful experience anywhere else in the UK till date !! Must try ...

The best experience! I was with my family there last Saturday. Steaks was amazing and peppercorn sauce delicious. Probably the best I’ve tried. Having a family holiday in wales was the best decision we had made this year. Stunning scenery and beaches. We were recommended by our camping site hosts to dine at the Red Lion Hotel. We were not disappointed, staff friendly and helpful, food was excellent, I had the trio of fish , my husband had the braised beef, our children were well catered for with scampi and triple cooked chips. No room for pud! The Chef came to each table to get feed back and chat, that to me shows care and attention to the customers. In these uncertain times we have been in , and are still going through it's so welcoming, and appreciated that we have chefs and staff that care. Well done Red lion we will return

Attended this pub and all I can say is awful When seated in a poorly lit table we finally had the waitress visit our table, when asked what certain drinks she had available, she had no issues, then found out the wine and beer I was told available was then no longer available. The coke was on tap and when it arrived at the table it was awful and flat, we spoke to another waitress who said “we have an issue with the pump, but I’m not dealing as I do the food” how rude ! We then managed to order dinner which took nearly an hour to get to the table, one dish was asked to substitute potatoes with chips, so the plate came with crushed potatoes and then a side order of chips - simple request and couldn’t get it right. Peppercorn sauce, which had no peppercorn in it, it would appear someone had just poured pepper mix which made it hot, unpleasant, not difficult if you follow a receipe Certainly a place I won’t return with family,as standards have seriously dropped

AMAZING FOOD. best we’ve had all week for miles around. Wine and beers were good too. Seriously, such good main courses. Really tasty and fresh and considered. Downsides, think the desert chef has changed since the pictures on here were posted. Still lovely but definitely a different pastry chef to head chef. Not complaining, just not in the same league as the savoury food. Downside, toilets were a bit grubby. They were busy and it was the evening. Perhaps they were some staff down? Men’s were flooded (appeared to be from the sink) and the ladies could really do with a good wipe down to removed some general dirt, hairs and dead bugs. When we got home we saw their previous food rating was a 2. ARGH! I’d never normally go somewhere so low. We normally check first. But my gosh the food was good.

Visited The Red Lion last Wednesday for lunch, we are a family of four with our dog, so we sat in the snug as dog friendly, a lovely lady welcomed. We decided to share the platters between us. The choice of items is extensive and when the platters arrived the food was quite fantastic, we didn't think we'd finish it as there was so much, but, we managed every delicious morsel!! The chef came to have a chat with us, super friendly, it's so nice when a chef comes to chat to customers and asks our opinion of his food. Wish we lived closer as we would become regulars!! My only little moan would be the lighting in the snug as quite dark, a couple of standard floor lamps would brighten the snug up. Thank you to you all for a lovely lunch.

We were due to be in the area so booked the Red Lion, largely taking pot luck. We were very please that we did so, as food was absolutely excellent. I had lamb shank, which is rarely seen on restaurant menus, and my wife a lasagne, which was clearly home made and she said one of the best she had ever tasted. Desserts were very good too. Staff were pleasant, including the chef who unusually came into the restaurant to talk to guests. Highly recommended.

We had a fabulous lunch here on a sunny Saturday afternoon towards the end of June. The trio of fish and lamb shank specials were exceptional and the courtyard at the rear was an extremely pleasant setting. To top it all, the very pleasant & friendly chef Abi made a point of coming out to speak to us. Compliments were duly given! Would highly recommend to anyone. Such a lovely experience all round.

Booked the red lion as it had rave reviews. Hotel staff were lovely and friendly. Bed was comfy. Booked a hotel rather than air bnb as wanted to eat at the same place as we were staying after a strenuous 5 hr hike. Bit shocked to find that it was the chefs night off so restaurant was closed( found this out at 7.30 pm) and no where else to eat in the village. Luckily managed to just get a table at a pub in llandovery so we didn't go hungry. It would have been nice to have been informed before we booked it- and also no cooked breakfast. Lovely place but check it isnt the chefs night off if you are depending on them for food.

We went to The Red Lion for a meal with visiting relatives - how embarrassing! We felt responsible for our choice of venue, one of our group ordered sirloin steak two ordered rump steak but only one rump steak was available - on a Saturday night! When the steaks finally arrived they were thin and poorly cooked appearing to have the same colour throughout despite ‘medium’ being specified. The menu stated choice of potatoes, new potatoes were requested but were told they only had chips. There were no steak knives, there was no a cooler for the white wine. We were kept waiting for our food for 50 minutes. The staff were young and inexperienced and didn’t appear to know one steak from the other. There was no manager on site to refer our complaints to. This sounds like a rant, which it is, but we consider it to be £90 wasted money - not cheap.

The staff were friendly, the beer was good as were the evening meals our party had on the first night (two night stay). However, the breakfast on our first morning came with fried bread that was so hard that a chisel would have been ideal instead of a knife and fork and pre ordered content wasn't as ordered with some items missing off some breakfasts. We also had a long wait so it wasn't available at the 08.00 time that we asked for. Needless to say, on the second morning nobody ordered fried bread but still not exactly as ordered on their required form, though the quality was better. The person who was to cook breakfast on the second morning didn't show because they were cancelled by 'somebody' the night before so another wait but other staff compensated; the person looking after us that second morning was very friendly and polite and did the Red Lion proud.Upon leaving after our stay there was nobody available for us to settle our bill and only after waiting for some time, as we were about to leave without paying anyway, did somebody show up for us to settle our accounts. The rooms were comfortable and clean though the carpet in my room was in need of changing as it was quite dirty from years of use.Unfortunately not up to the standard we would have liked for these reasons which was a great shame.

Several years of very good meals. Today is my birthday, and what a disappointment. The food was poorly prepared in so many ways I am not going into further detail. Under or over cooked meats, potatoes and veg. Gravy like coloured water. Tasteless and a miserable and bedraggled old woman hovering around the servery only added to the bad atmosphere. I may try again after they have had a chance to replace the kitchen staff. It really was a disaster.

A guy in Llandeilo suggested The Red Lion. We arrived a little early for dinner, so we sat in the bar area for a drink. The bartenders were friendly enough and the beer was delicious. They had several local ales (Evan Evans) on draught and ginger beer for the kids. The place has ambiance, warm and pleasant with swords and shields and such hanging around. Having booked a month in advance in preparation for a celebration weekend away we arrived in good time and following gridlock in the car park we eventually got into the pub where we were left standing in the entrance to wait for the table. We wondered into the bar and then called through to our table. Extremely limited menu of just cavery. We ordered starters and while eating we were surrounded by people, knocking the back of my chair, queuing for the food. When we finished we joined the queue, only to find no potatoes, veg and limited meal left. When speaking to the waitress she just scurried off never to return with a response. We eventually found the manager who did nothing to resolve the situation. We left hungry and a little concerned as to where we could go to eat. This took the shine off the weekend. We called a few other places but were unsuccessful until we found the Plough Inn. All I can say is.... A-MAZ-ING

We were not at all happy~ i had a vegetable curry, it was absolutely awful , mostly peas and onions ,it did not even taste like curry , it looked dreadful as well , i asked for just rice with it ,i had rice and chips which i did not ask for ~my poppadom was just placed on top of everything on the plate~~another one of us ordered an Ale pie , it was to salty ~ we asked the young man serving us if we could speak to the Chef, first we were told he had gone upstairs, then he could not understand English (so how when he was asked whether the mushroom stroganoff was Gluten free i have no idea!) one of our party is a Coeliac ~ eventually the Manager came to see us and she was fine , very understanding and apologised for everything and she did take 50% off the bill ~~ and i will say the young man serving us was very polite and understanding as well ~~~ would we go back , no i don't think so , my Birthday meal was ruined

I ordered the steak and ale pie and got a lake of beef stew with a bit of shop bought pastry plonked on top. No vegetables, and I had to pay an extra £2.50 for a few soggy chips. My partner had chicken and leek pie and got a lake of chicken and leek with a bit of pastry on top. The result is an expensive and unedifying dinner. We will not be returning

Our daughter was graduating from Lampeter Uni so we booked in here for the weekend as we were struggling to get anywhere nearby. What a great choice we made, lovely staff good food and a complementary upgrade to an amazing 4 poster room. Our special weekend was made even more enjoyable by staying here, thank you.

Fascinating and comfortable environment. Delicious food - tender melt-in-the-mouth roast meats, perfectly cooked vegetables, home-made sage and onion stuffing, masses of choice. Gorgeous and artistically presented desserts. Excellent value for money. Would definitely recommend the Red Lion carvery!

Stayed here with my partner on Saturday 17.03.18 we found a bargain on booking.com and thought why not go away for the night and watch the 6 nations in the pub there. We’re glad we did everyone was so accommodating, we arrived at about 13.30 and the room was still being cleaned even though it didn’t bother us they gave us free drinks on the house which was a lovely gesture. We had lunch there we both had lasagne and it was gorgeous, homemade and fresh and the chips were amazing lovely to have chips cooked fresh like that big compliments to the chef. We watched the 6 nations in the bar planning to go up to the room after the wales game but the locals were so friendly we were drinking with them all night we ended up staying a second night as we had to drive back over Brecon and the roads were closed and dangerous due to the snow but it wasn’t a problem the room is amazing, we had the Henry VIII room which had a huge comfortable four poster bed and a huge bath. And finally the breakfast is amazing locally sourced produce and absolutely gorgeous. We really enjoyed our small break away a big thank you to all the staff we’ll definitely come back again.

We visited the Red Lion at the end of a lovely weekend break in the area, to celebrate my son's 21st birthday. We were expecting an average meal for the set price of £10.99, but the fayre we were given far exceeded all our hopes; the carvery had a delicious selection of meats and veg. (my son said the lamb was the best he'd ever tasted!), with very generous portions and seconds for those who could manage it! The chef managed to produce a delicious vegan offering for the non-carnivores of the family - nothing was too much trouble. This is a gem of a place, with a warm welsh welcome - we will definitely be back! Highly recommended :)

We visited for our anniversary on the 21/10/17 and stayed in the Elizabeth 1 room. The room was comfortable clean and very nicely decorated. The bed was comfortable. We had some drinks in the bar and ate in the restaurant in the evening and I can honestly say the food was excellent. The staff were so welcoming and helpful and I must say the breakfast was also superb. A lovely selection of food and it was all fresh and well cooked. I can highly recommend the red lion and I will definitely be back. 5*

A lovely place very friend young staff. The food was very good, however the service was slow considering there were not many people. I would recommend it but the young waiters should be a bit more attentive to timing.

Just back from lunch today (10 of us accommodated in the snug). This was a very generous carvery lunch of 6 different meats, vegetables and all the accompaniments served by a welcoming chef who took the time to come and talk to us after serving was over. His homemade vegetarian nut roast was also excellent. Waitresses Harriet and her friend were very pleasant and friendly. Fantastic value for money.

We ended up here after a long hike about an hour before dinner service started. Despite being fully booked already they made space for us for dinner. We had a few drinks in the bar and everyone was friendly. Good was amazing. I had the fish & chips, hubby had the ribs. He picked up his first rib and the meat literally fell off onto the plate!

Two quinquagenarian bikers in need of sustenance fifty miles from home had this establishment recommended at the main shop in the town. We can profess the recommendation was entirely worthy. The staff did everything to make us feel welcome, and were extremely friendly and accommodating. The bar had an interesting selection of guest and regular beers introduced by barman Chris. I plumped for Evan Evans 'Cwrw', a light local brew which was more than adequate - quite moreish, in truth. We also placed an order for some sandwiches, expecting at best some rustic bloomer slices separated by machine sliced beef (me) or slabs of cheddar (him). They arrived on a plank accompanied by a dressed leaf arrangement, which was far from unpleasant. The bread was excellent, and the beef with horseradish was amongst the best I've had, and I've had a few. Gourmet quality meat, possibly from the local herd of longhorns. I need to confirm that.Drat, I'll have to go back. Ho-hum, dem's da breaks...

Tried a variety of meals over 4 days..All food was good (except for one steak, which was ok) Service fairly slow but we were not in a hurry. A fairly good menu, with "meal deals" on several evenings, which kept prices reasonable. The hotel is hundreds of years old, and this fact has allowed an interesting Tudor theme to be attractively used.

We had a family Sunday lunch here Sept 2024. Food was very nice , starters were a little small for the price but tasty. The roast was fantastic and plenty of veg for everyone . I don't like being negetive on reviews but I would say in the nicest possible way that the staff that served our table hadn't had a lot of experience or training which is down to the manager /employer. But they were lovely girls and nothing was to much trouble. 1 thing that I was a bit disappointed in was the waiter that brought the veg to the table was actually chewing food while putting our veg on the table . Was not really impressed with that but over all food made up for it . Price was good to . Toilets could do with a little attention .

What can I say. But omg this is the tastiest afternoon tea I have ever had. The Bench. Well you get cottage pie, chicken pie, chips in a basket with battered sausage on top. A large Yorkshire pudding pilled with mash potato a small sausages in. Curry sauce, gravy. Then on the lower half you got your treats, you have all small treats to die for but I saved my favourite till last which was the mouth watering apple and cinnamon crumble.
