We had lunch at the Red Hawk with our friends. The staff are friendly and attentive especially Shirley. The food is well cooked. The menu is extensive catering for all tastes including children. We were served a short time after ordering even though they were quite busy.Would recommend.

My husband had the mixed grill. He is a creature of habit. He knows he will always enjoy it and he did. I went for something I've not had before: Hunter's Chicken. I had salad instead of chips. Well, I was really impressed. The chicken was perfectly cooked and the presence of the bacon, cheese and barbeque sauce added to its excellent flavour. I cleared my plate and would have licked it clean if it wasn't inappropriate to do so. Just one thing: a steak knife to cut the chicken would be a good idea.

Friendly place but the rating is based on the food. I ordered a steak ‘medium well’ but it was more ‘well well’. Or even well well well! Too tough to eat and I gave up. Feedback to the chef with the reminding uneaten steak had no response. I eat out a lot so it’s short sighted not to at least apologise or try to make it up.

Hot day and feeling a bit thirsty, just popped in for a lemonade. I'm guessing the bar staff are all suffering with a semi-catatonic depressive condition. Zero eye contact, no please, or thankyou, and the body language of the 'beaten before we started'. Bit of a shame really, a nice looking pub in a good location, just a pity about the hospitality.

Terrible experience. For a start the beer is overpriced and it’s the most expensive in the village! The beer garden at the front is appalling with all the tables being rotten!! This pub should be the focal point of this up and coming village and I’d never bring my family here!

Dropped in for tea on Friday night, very busy but managed to get a table. Just before our food arrived a couple came in and sat at the table next to us with a dog!! This is my biggest annoyance when eating. The dog would not settle and find it so unhygienic. Dogs have their place but sorry not in a restaurant! Dog lovers just think everyone loves dogs but this is not the case! This put me off my meal and do not think I would return. Come on Red Hawk you really need to address this, maybe you could put customers with dogs in a separate room and keep them altogether, preferably well away! Why would you want to bring your dog to a very busy pub for your tea at 7pm on a Friday night??!!! No consideration for other diners!!!!!!!

We used a voucher for 30% off mains. The main course of lasagne and steak pie with chips and peas were reasonable but the salad garnish with lasagne was poorly prepared with no dressing. Chips were not included with lasagne.Chocolate orange brownie was good and a decent portion. The sherry trifle cheesecake was a very small portion and didn't taste as good as described on the menu. Staff were welcoming and service was quick. Noticed that must other diners were using vouchers. The normal prices are reasonable compared to some venues but this is reflected in quality.

Called earlier in the day to see if we could drop in or if we had to book. No definitive answer was given they just took my name and made a reservation for 7.30pm. No instructions were given whilst on the phone regarding process or and we were not asked what we were intending to do whilst there (just drink or eat as well). Turned up at booked time. Not much signage or any track & trace anywhere to be seen. Walked in and approached the bar. Told staff member that we had a booking. We were directed to our table. Staff member made no attempt to explain how things worked under the new circumstances or when the last orders were for bar/food (was it table service or should we order at bar? - who knows). We had to find our menus ourselves and happened to come across them near the entrance. Had to ask passing staff what to do. Not very reassuring. Didn’t see any sign or additional measures (hygiene/customer safety). Spent a few minutes looking at the menu and then went to place our order at the designated area. This was as 7.55pm. They checked the with the staff in the kitchen and luckily they were still open so our order was taken (it would have been nice if we were told what time food orders were being taken until when we were shown to our table) still there was no explanation of how things worked under the new covid-19 rules. When our starters were ready they were placed on table approx 10’ away from our table and it was indicated that we would get up and collect it our selves (this wasn’t a problem) the server used and cloth/tea towel when carrying the plates but we were expected to pick them up without heat protection and carry them to our table. The plates were very hot!! and we needed to improvise and use few napkins to pick them up. Still no explanation of the next steps. The same happened with our main courses - extremely hot plates with no heat protection to carry them. I’m not complaining about the food as this was nice - no complaints with that at all. The service was terrible. At no point did anyone explain anything. Didn’t see anyone with and kind of face coveting/gloves or any additional hygiene measures at all that I’ve seen at other restaurants. Why can’t the staff were gloves and Perspex masks and bring your food to the table (as they do elsewhere). As regards signage - there were some arrows on the floor - that’s all I could see. I would suggest that staff explain on the phone when booking and also when you arrive at the pub - it would reassure customers that their safety is important to the pub/Marstons. Today’s experience doesn’t fill me with confidence that they are doing everything to ensure customer safety. I’ve been to a few different places after they have re-opened and I’d have to say that this place doesn’t really have a clue about how to protect their customers.

We visited the Red Hawk today as we had some friends and family visiting from out of town.We had booked a table for 11 , on arrival , all good , table reserved and the right number of seats , big tick !Sadly , that is where the positive experience ended. We ordered our food , all hungry and expectant , 3 children , 8 adults , a mix of meat and vegetarian eaters. The menu is limited for Vegetarian eaters but not different to most places. Most people chose a burger of some description. The beef / steak burgers were burnt / cremated, when I flagged this to the duty manager , I was informed that this was because the burgers were char grilled !How stupid of me to mistake char grilled for burnt to a cinder .....The duty manager did offer to cook another but as most people had finished , this didn’t work , he asked our tablenumber , 12 , but he was not seen again , I am intrigued what he was going to do to make good what was obviously wrong ..?I chose the halloumi burger , it was good , the only issue was the accompanying pepper which were nearly raw and green not red as per the menu and hence tasted bitter The chicken tikka masala was chosen also , lack of chicken , sauce watery and lack of flavour , rice sponsored by Uncle Ben Boil in the bag.Overall , a very disappointing food experience which is a real shame.Brough needs a decent , good value family pub which the Red Hawk is not.The food is cheap but poor quality The drinks are expensive £2.60 for a lemonade or PepsiLooks like they are under staffed also.I noticed a number of tables sending food back and or complaining about portion size.If in the area , pay a little more and enjoy either the Green Dragon or Half Moon

I work for the local community service and we were looking at putting on Christmas meals for people who felt isolated and lonely in the local area, to give them an opportunity to have a great Christmas meal and meet new people, and hopefully creating friendships. We needed a place that would feed 25 people in one sitting. Immediately we rang red hawk as we knew it had a good reputation already in the local area. Immediately they agreed, said we could book up to 50 people if needed. We booked for a lunch time on the Wednesday before xmas. Everyone had the opportunity to pick a starter, main and desert from the Christmas menu, with a wide choice for all (Veggies, Vegans, Gluten Free etc). A set price was agreed £13.99, which is amazing valueLouise was absolutely outstanding in making sure everything ran smoothly, cant thank her enough. The pub where great and keeping in touch and making sure we had everyone's pre orders, and that Red Hawk had all the correct meals in. On the day, we had a table set, crackers provided. Everyones meal came out on time and everyone got the right meal. The food was hot and was a generous portion size. Louise and her team did an amazing job to make sure everyone was content with food. I cant speak for everyone else but my Christmas meal was very nice. Turkey with all the trimmings. a 3 course meal for 13.99 I think its amazing, Would 100% recommend to anyone wanting to do a big group booking for xmas meals.

Went to this pub to take the mother in law out for Mother's Day meal we ordered the food at the bar and waited over half a hour the place wasn't busy, when it came they got the order wrong when the food did come back it was cold how do you get a mixed grill so wrong the steak was raw we sent the food back all we were offered was a voucher for more food which we won't use because we don't live nearby the manager blamed it on mars tons for not allowing her to employ enough staff

We went to have a quick drink and ended up with a great deal on a bottle of wine, buy two glasses and you get the bottle for £12.99. Food was okay and it's always busy and friendly

Visited for drink and a bite to eat with a friend. Burger was clearly rushed, as was cooked on inside but was burnt on the outside. Still nice but not the point. Guy behind the bar - dunno name but he was lovely. The rest of the women which served us were moody and snappy and literally throwing our food at us, by dumping it on the table no smile or friendliness saying 'there' and walking off.. wouldn't hurry back.

Enjoyed a last minute tea out with my daughter and we were very well looked after from start to finish. Fabulous choice of meals and my daughter loves the TV in the booths! Jonny made sure everything was spot on for us as always. Be back soon.

It was great to visit a place that offers "light bites" for diners who only want a snack or who do not want large portions. I had the light bite fish& chips. It was delious, well cooked and at under a fiver it was a bargain.

Went for a meal on Friday night, busy at 6.30 till 8, reasonable prices for standard food, but all cooked well and presented well. Good selection of beer's and drinks to choose from. Staff very quickly to serve us even though it was packed.

We have been here for tea several times on a Friday evening and every time the food has been served within 10-15 minutes of ordering, which is just what you need when taking children out for a bite to eat. We don't order complicated things but we have found the food tasty and well presented. Would recommend to anyone who wants a functional alternative to cooking at home!

Sarah was very attentive. The rest of the staff need to be trained by her. On booking to see if we could have a table the man wasn't, quite in the room

We waited an hour for eggs and toast. Owner only cared about Door Dash orders going out the door. Given that Courtenay has so many great casual dining places, give this one a pass. Give your business to restaurants that care about providing good service to their customers.

Called in tonight as seen family pub and dogs welcome on their sign.....just our street. Well. Absolutely gobsmacked with the prices, cheep and cheerful. Brie, as discussed as in the cheese, absolute delight, what a barmaid! Signposted me to everything I was drinking and offers, could jot have asked more of her, saleswoman in the making! We will be back, with child and dog 😊 cannot recommend any higher

Went today for lunch , I decided i was having soup , they said it was the last portion so that was fine , I asked for no bread which , when it came it was the smallest half bowl of soup for £6.25 , I didn’t want anything knocking off for not having the bread but did expect a full dish, looking at the menu I could of had a small breakfast, or sandwich for about the same price , it’s soup where do they get over £6 for it!!
