Un attentive staff, Luke warm Sunday lunch, didn't feel as if the custom was wanted, over two hours to order and eat one course, including fifteen minutes waiting for a dessert menu which we gave up any chance of ordering and asked for the bill. Had to go to the kitchen twice to ask about our food. Very disappointing.

We hadn’t been here for a couple of years. Pleasantly surprised at the updating. We had Sunday lunch. Beef and the pork dinners excellent. Good helping of meat and wide range of vegetables all of good quality. Staff pleasant, attentive and made us welcome. Will definitely be back. Book early as it gets very busy from about 2 pm

New to the area so have been trying different places for Sunday lunch. Service - good Atmosphere - good And that’s were it ends. So starters, wife had the mussels and I had pulled pork and smoked cheese rissole . Mussels ok , rissole mostly potato, could hardly taste the cheese and of the four bits of pork in it, one was hard fat. Overall needed seasoning. Mains, I had the beef and the wife had the pork belly. These well ok but thin pieces of beef and hard to chew pork. Strange tasting Yorkshire puddings and roasted potatoes under roasted and tasted cheap. Then to tap it off we paid extra for a very small portion of cauliflower cheese for £4.50 to then see the tables after us getting more than twice as much. Now dont mind paying for good food and service but £70 for two starters and mains, a lager shandy, half a cola and a side of cauliflower cheese is a bit much for just good service, sorry to say.

Our visit today was awful… the food was cold the presentation was dreadful I don’t know how they let it leave the kitchen…… when I spoke to the woman behind the bar which I presume was the manageress and told her there was a problem she didn’t say a word , just gave us the bill …. Nobody asked us if the food was ok not helpful at all , definitely would not recommend this restaurant as the staff were not vey friendly or helpful and the food is not up to a good standard or value for money

We visited the Red Fox today for the first time and we were bowled over…cannot believe we haven’t been before but we will definitely return! Had a lovely friendly welcome from who we thought might be the landlady who greeted everybody as if they were family….loved the Christmas theme with the lights and I imagine it’s so cosy in winter with the log fire roaring away! We didn’t have starters and thank goodness because the main meals are very generous portions. We have the salmon and the foxy burger…both were delicious. We are both pudding fans and had the crumble and the sticky toffee pudding…again both delicious..the staff were amazing, friendly and helpful….we felt very much at home and can’t wait for a return visit. If you haven’t been, you will not be disappointed

I cannot recommend this pub enough! The welcome you get makes you feel like a loved family member! All the staff are amazing and the husband and wife owners are so friendly and kind. You will literally be welcomed with a massive hello shouted from the bar as you walk in! We go once a week and the quality of the food is amazing. The Sunday roast especially! The prices are reasonable for the quality of fresh food served here. The inside is decorated in a cosy “Christmas time” vibe with fairy lights everywhere and even Christmas trees. In the winter there’s a real fire and in the summer there’s a lovely beer garden and also reclining chairs out the front also. Every visit is like coming home! My wife and I absolutely love this place, and you will too. Ideal for a family celebration or a consistently excellent Sunday roast.

decided to try it based on its #1 position for Cowbridge restaurants and the excellent reviews. We were not disappointed, each constituent part of our meals was full of flavour and the portions were substantial. The menu is nicely varied, between us we had chicken (plain and Cajun), Cod and Salmon which were all superb. A mention for the landlady who has a lovely personality and is rightly enthusiastic and proud of her establishment. We will return

Lovely fire welcomes you on a cold night and the landlady is a ray of sunshine. You can not ask for a warmer welcome. Staff polite and friendly. There is a bar area which consists of a small area where the locals hang out and an eating area for bar meals. There is a more formal restaurant area but still maintains a homely feel. There is a varied menu on offer and the food excellent and portions generous.

There have been a few people in charge over the decades, as you can expect, but you need to know that the present faces are the very best, and this review is about them, forget the past, its not relevant. They give the warmest welcome in the Vale, probably the universe. Take it with open arms, don't be shy. On the other hand if you want to quietly sup a pint, you can do that too, and there's often a warm fire to settle near to.As for the place, the bar is small and there are just a few tables, but the restaurant can handle a busload of people, so its worth taking a chance on getting in when you've not had the foresight to book ahead. But try to book, it give everyone in the place an idea how many to expect. Its perpetually Christmas here. The twinkling lights are up all year, and as its an exposed-stone building, the dark interior works well in summer and winter. Its old, its not a gastro-pub, or a bistro, or an auberge, its a country pub. Cosy in winter, and cool in the summer.Yes, there is ample parking, yes the plates of food are ample, and yes, there is a good choice without being silly. I've got to admit that the calorie-counters will need a bigger calculator, but some people like to over-indulge when the eat out. And you can always share.I'm not sure a pub could be any better. Its doing absolutely everything well, and long may it do the same. Bravo Fox, bravo Red Fox.

I haven’t been to this place for many many years and returned today with a friend and my young Son. It was lovely to find George and her family still running this traditional, cosy pub. The food was just as good as i remembered but what was better was the service. My 5 month old Son was unwell and crying throughout most of our meal and George and her staff couldn’t do enough to try to help and to make us feel welcome, while some other guest were a little less understanding! I myself would probably have rolled my eyes before I became a Mum but I now know how terrible embarrassing and upsetting it can be when you can’t settle a usually happy and content baby! Thank you George and staff - totally outstanding hospitality. A family run pub that stands out from the rest!x

Visited recently with another couple as our first visit. Staff were very friendly and ambiance was lovely. Excellent food choices. Brie starter was huge and would have been happy with half the portion size. Shame that the fries are frozen - would have been lovely to have homemade chips or sweet potato alternatives. You come to expect frozen chips in the big chains, but the smaller village pubs surely could offer better. The only negative was that we didn't feel the toilets were particularly as clean as they could have been. Hope to revisit again.

Though The Red Fox is sort of the local pub being in the nearby village for various reasons we don't get to go in there very often but we popped in for a meal yesterday evening . You could say it was to celebrate England's victory over the All Blacks but really it was to have meal out at a reliable pub and we were not disappointed . Good welcome , busy but not overcrowded , and good food . We eat in the restaurant part rather than out in the bar but it's all the same menue We shared the mackerel pate which worked well . Lasagne was lovely and my sirloin steak was just right . I made the mistake ? of ordering a peppercorn sauce and to be honest didn't need it there was plenty of flavour there already . But don't let that stop you having peppercorn sauce if you want it . Sticky toffee pud and cheese cake followed , if there is a criticism the cheese cake could have been larger . Overall a lovely meal and good to reacquaint ourselves with The Red Fox

The main course arrived after quite a delay and was not hot enough although the new potatoes and cauliflower cheese were boiling. Plenty of meat if you could chew your way through it, under cooked carrots and red cabbage came with the meal, the cauliflower cheese was just enough for two people not the four of us, didn't bother with a desert.

I came home from Uni the other weekend and brought my boyfriend home with me. It was all a bit rushed owing to a family emergency. So I phoned George who was able to squeeze in a table for two. The pub was glorious as ever - very warm welcome, lovely ambience and super food. My boyfriend was so impressed with both the food and the friendliness of all the Fox staff. Thanks so much to you all xxx

We attend every last Thursday of the month to the pub quiz. Great atmosphere, food very well priced and always a nice beer or glass of wine. Very friendly staff and fellow customers.

When your initial greeting (?) is just “are you booked?” accompanied by “we’re going to be very busy in 15-20 minutes” maybe you should just go, which is what I started to do but “Mine” yarded me back.

Advertising lunch service 12.00-14.30. Despite our constant customer support,on two recent visits we were told that the kitchen had “switched everything off,”” at 14.00 and on the second occasion, 13.45, the landlady said she couldn’t cope as she was serving on her own!! Julie, the helper has served on her own , on other occasions, and with many more customers. We won’t return. Competition is keen and there is an excellent list of local eateries to choose from.

Had Sunday lunch with the family to celebrate my birthday. We have dined here previously and this visit did not disappoint. Starters are generous and varied. When the main courses arrived the staff stated that extra vegetables were available. Service was prompt, polite and unobtrusive. We will be going back in the future and have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant.

This pub used to be fantastic but for some unknown reason standards have dropped. Our last three meals have not been very good at all. Fish and chips awful, fish watery and chips soggy. Thai green curry was absolutely appalling. One roast dinner meat was so dry it was just left. What’s going on?

Curry special that was not spice hot or hot enough.Recommended to try this after not having been for a few years but there are far better and cheaper places to eat locally.Sorry it will be a while before we are tempted back.

It was lovely to make a return visit to this restaurant with friends , We were shown our table seated and our drinks served without any delays as the restaurant was quite busy at the time.we had time to have a good chat between our selves while our starters was served we all chose the cheese brie and they were quite large portions, we all ordered different main meals which were also very nice I ordered a salad with my steak but I wish it was a little smaller as it seemed to take over the plate , we all had a lovely time here and the ambiance was relaxing and calm the staff were also really helpful and pleasant during our visit , the meals are all priced very reasonable and I would recommend this restaurant every time it is worth a visit , we will return soon,,,,

Great for family dinners. We love the whitebait and the brie cheese starter. The meal sizes are perfect for pub dinners and are really delicious. My dad says their Grolsch is always a winner for him, never been served a bad pint. I would thoroughly recommend it here, the staff are lovely and attentive.

Been here a few times over the years. This visit was not great. The menu is limited to start with, but they were out of the thai green curry and lasagne which further limited the choice. Service was average and the place was empty. Won't rush back.

Visited this very welcoming pub last night with friends. We ordered a mixture of meals, some steaks, some fish and one special. All were nicely presented and all plates were emptied. The atmosphere was warm and friendly with a fire crackling away in the log burner.

We re-visited this pub after decades. On entering you are immediately standing at the bar. The welcome from the landlady is warm and hearty. Other staff are also friendly. They have a good range of beers. The pub is nicely decorated and kept. There is a restaurant through a doorway off the bar perhaps for evening meals. We both ate ham, egg and chips. Standard pub food. It was good but it was time for the chip oil to be changed. There lies the reason for the average marking. We will return in the future sometime and try again but it's not on our 'must do' list

The Red Fox is situated in a lovely little village which is just a little too far from us for a regular visit but is somewhere we enjoy for special occasions. We booked a table in the bar to celebrate a family birthday and as usual the food was fantastic. We enjoyed a range of starters but the deep fried brie with redcurrant jelly is delicious. For mains we had steaks, pie, Thai green curry and chicken nuggets for the little one. Each meal was perfect and served in a real country pub environment. The welcome is great with a fun loving landlady who goes out of her way to please. The food was washed down with very well kept ale and wine. If you are looking for a beautiful, well presented country pub serving top quality, often locally sourced food then the Fox is well worth a visit. They even provide colouring books and pencils to keep the restless little ones entertained.
