The Red Cow in Blaby

Our first visit to the Red Cow, it will not be our last. First impressions count and this did not disappoint. Brilliant atmosphere, friendly and attentive staff, well kept and presented cask ale, and great food. I will now apologise to Sean, who must've thought 'we've got one here' when I asked to speak to the duty manager. I just wanted to say a personal thank you to the person running such a great service. Thank you all.

We went to The Red Cow for lunch on Sunday. The place was not busy but there were long waits for food, by the time two of our party got their starters the rest had almost finished theirs. Cutlery was less than clean when brought out to us with food clearly stuck to it. There was a reasonable amount on the plate, it was ok apart from the cold, undercooked steamed veg and the chewy, rubbery roast potatoes that were way too firm in the middle. Half of our party left most of their main meal uneaten. I would have ordered another starter for my main meal if I'd have realised how disappointing the rest was going to be. While desserts are subjective to taste however, most of our party opted out. General round up: For food - Overpriced and undercooked with slow service. For drinks/snacks - A nice place with friendly, helpful staff.

Being our local, favourite and ‘Goto Pub’, rather than cook we decided to go for a nice meal having been many times this year. However, the usual customer experience we are used to had vanished and replaced with the worst Customer Service we have encountered for a very long time. On entering the pub, our reception was less than welcoming. We wondered if the person seating people was having a bad day. We were shown to our table and ordered food/drinks in a timely manner. When the food arrived, we asked for a new salt pot as ours was damp and no salt was coming out. The dark haired girl serving us said, ‘Well if you unscrew the top you can get to the salt that way’, and abruptly walked off. We asked again and were told, ‘Well they are all like that’ and again abruptly walked off. Annoyed by this, I went up to the dark haired girl at the till who was showing a new girl how things are done and told her she can have her faulty salt pot, and her customer service was appalling. Ten minutes later and at the end of our meal she appeared with a little dish with salt in it, we think trying to make a point. Even more annoying and rude. We finished our meal almost immediately, paid (was asked if we would like to leave a tip – I did think of a few choice words), and left Next day, I cancelled our Christmas Day booking that we were looking forward to, with a lame excuse ‘ Having to Work’ as there was not enough space to enter this review. It means that I will lose my deposit (I doubt the Red Cow will read this and refund it), but we cannot risk having our Christmas Day ruined by awful customer service again. I also strongly begrudge spending £300 on Christmas Day at such an unwelcoming place. We will now take our business elsewhere. I do hope the owners of this establishment read this as we were so upset, annoyed and let down. I wish I could give it less than 1 out of 5.

Got looked after by a lovely waitress Hannah Very professional courteous and helpful, nothing was to much trouble.

Came here with family after a 60 years celebration for lunch. Dad and auntie had the lamb rump and I had a signature burger which was very nice. Dad and I had a dessert. The only thing I moan about they give you a napkin for the mains but they don’t give you one when they bring out the desserts. But the staff was excellent on their work.

food was great, amazing service. hallumi fries were to die for and so was the mac and cheese. woukd definitely recommend

6 of us visited the red cow for lunch. It's our first time here, and we have had the nicest meal we all had something different and everyone enjoyed what they had chosen. The pub is lovely and quaint they had a fire crackling away which was lovely on such a wet and dark afternoon it was spotlessly clean and the lady that served us was very helpful and friendly we will definitely be visiting again.

The food was incredible, the sea bass was excellent. Although the lemon tart was absolutely divine, and I cannot thank my waitress Tia enough for recommending it, she was awfully kind throughout my time there. The space was small enough to fill with the sounds of conversation without ever feeling cramped or claustrophobic. A marvellous place, I shall be back with guests.

Amazing dinner! Jamie our server was amazing! It is such a nice pub! The standard of the drinks and food quality was really good!

We asked for a table near a window were initially disappointed when we were shown to dark table next to a wall We asked to move to a vacant table and were told they would have to check At last we were allowed to move I know this sounds petty but first impressions of a restaurant set the tone for the evening OK let's be positive The young waitress was attentive and pleasant The service was good we didn't have to long wait for our meal However the food was fodder for the masses My wife had fish and chips The batter was hard as a crust and inedible The fish was bland and uninteresting I paid top dollar for a medium rare rib eye steak which was when it arrived was more like we'll done Obviously my preference had been ignored Apple crumble cold did return it came back minutes later looked as if it had been microwaved Its a nice pub but really needs to up it's game Yes we could hacw sebt our main meal back but quite frankly we were tired had not eaten all day and just wanted immediate sustenance. The fish was left on plate no comment made.

One of my favourite pubs to go for a meal- not packed, overpriced or noisy. Just wonderful service, food and atmosphere.

Food unappealing not presented well

Went with family whilst visiting. It was very quiet at the time we went on a Thursday evening. Food was good. Kids also enjoyed their meals.

Had a delicious Sunday lunch here as a family. The restaurant area was quiet and nicely decorated. The food was delicious apart from the cauliflower cheese which was hard and not very cheesy. Definitely been in the microwave unfortunately. Everything else was yummy and well cooked. Service was prompt too. Prices not extortionate either.

Came for a drink after work and was greeted at the bar by Liv who was very welcoming, friendly and efficient with getting our drinks!

Blonde haired bar staff rude and abrupt, stopping my family member from going to the toilet facilities. There was no bar staff around so being an experienced bar staff I poured our order after waiting a long time. Then after pouring I waited at the bar to pay for our order but to be hurled abuse from the bar staff. Poor customer service needs education on how to speak to her paying customers!!!! Used to really enjoy coming to the red cow but after tonight’s experience I will not be a regular no more, disgusting attitude from the blonde lady.

WOW, what an experience on a very hot summers day! Came in gasping for a drink and there was Tia on hand ready to deliver. Tia was excellent during our whole time at the Red Cow, very personable, friendly and able to exceed all of our expectations. Would recommend anyone to the Red Cow passing through Leicester!

Had a lovely experience all round! The chicken pie was really good and the atmosphere was very welcoming. Our waitress, Tia was super friendly and gave great recommendations to suit my dietary needs.

Went for a meal with my brother and sister-in-law Wednesday lunchtime, food was lovely but they have such a fly problem in the restaurant wasn't very nice with them flying around and on the food.

Fabulous experience with my family for lunch today. School holidays are never easy but our server, Tia, was attentive and made our experience 10/10 Look forward to returning for a Sunday lunch soon :)

Initially looking for somewhere to have a drink, a group of 6 of us called into the Red Cow as it was on the way home. The bar staff were friendly and we got our drinks, before starting to think about food, too. As a pub in a chain I already know (frequent visitor to the Dun Cow in Dunchurch), we took a look at the menu. By now it was around 8 in the evening and I asked if they might have a table for 6 - a quick look and we were sorted. There was then a delay in getting our orders placed which was a shame, as the food, when it arrived was excellent. Everyone enjoyed great starters and mains, the staff were very good and the overall ambience was great. We didn't have dessert simply because we'd already eaten enough ! This rather random visit turned out to be a great success. As a pub/restaurant in a chain, you never quite know what you'll get, but with Vintage Inns, of which the Red Cow is a member, it seems there is consistency of food, drink and service wherever you go. At least in the Leicestershire and Warwickshire areas !

Love red cow as our local and I understand times have been hard lately- seriously need some time investing in the rear garden furniture as I was afraid to sit down in my white trousers the state of the furniture is very poor - offer it as a Saturday job to a local teenager to upgrade for you -bit of tlc

Visited the Red Cow for the first time 2 weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised. Food was good value for money and was served by Hannah who was a pleasure throughout and went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. Nothing wsd too much trouble which made the experience even more enjoyable.

Well, wow. Pretty disappointed to be honest. Came to red cow with my misses to try out a new place, and unfortunately didn’t really stack up. Pretty small portions of food, walls and pillar next to our table all marked up and the paint on the doors to the toilets all worn down and just generally looks tatty if I’m honest. Pretty worst of all was the service. Rushed service, waitress didn’t seem too friendly, she probably would have got a tip if she cracked atleast one smile. Bartender after paying the bill, same again, rushed and no really service just done, pay and move on. The price we paid here we could have gone to miller & carter and got top notch service and much better food. Wasn’t the worst place we’ve been but probably won’t be back. Thanks tho

Food was incredible. Hannah was my waitress, she was beautiful and gave us great service. There was a child screaming which results in the 4* for the atmosphere, however I would recommend this pub to anyone visiting the area.

I visited the red cow with my brother and I had the 8oz sirloin which was made to my desired taste with the peppercorn sauce whilst my brother had the pepperoni pizza with onion rings. We had the crème brûlée and eton mess for puddings. Everything about the meal and service was good. We were served by Daphne who was really nice and attentive.

I visited the red cow yesterday with a friend just to have some food and to catch up. We had the duo of lamb and sea bass which both tasted absolutely amazing and great portions. We were served by Shaun and Daphne who were really lovely. I would be definitely be visiting again.

Visited the red cow yesterday and was served by Shaun and Jamie. I had the chicken liver pate and hunters chicken schnitzel which I must say was fabulous! Good portions and would recommend especially if you’re staying at the travelodge next door as it’s very convenient.

Initially came just to have drinks but decided to try the food out. I ordered the sticky duck and hoisin pizza with a side of halloumi fries. Really good portions and would stop by again for a proper meal.

Stopped by for a quick lunch yesterday. I had the home baked pie of the day which was the chicken and pancetta pie. It was massive and delicious! Also had the apple crumble with custard which had no faults. Very good portions and good value for the money. Was served by Shaun and Jamie who were nice lads and really helpful.

I visited the red cow with family for dinner and tried the Mac and cheese with pulled beef brisket and fries. I had the mango and passion fruit Eton mess for dessert. The kids really enjoyed their meals. They ordered off the kids menu and had the pizza and brownies after which was worth the price. Good food and very nice people.

Visited the red cow for a girls dinner to catch up with friends. The food was really nice and big portions! I had the prawn cocktail to start and Seabass with king prawns for my mains which was really good! We were served by Daphne and Hannah who took good care of us!

I visited the red cow yesterday to have dinner as I was staying at the travelodge next door. Tried the garlic prawns and chorizo which I must say tasted divine! I had the lasagne for my main course with the fries and drank a madri. Was served by Daphne who was really bubbly and attentive. Would be stopping by for dinner again tonight.

Heading towards Derby and stopped for food. Tried the signature burger which I must say tasted divine! The waitress Daphne was really helpful at recommending what to try. Would be visiting next time I’m passing by.

We ate mid week lunch time, and the atmosphere was lacking as it was quiet.

Food was okay . Shame they had no flavoured coffees . Biscoff coffee was ordered and the bar manager told us they didn’t sell it and it was on the menu . We had a 3 course meal the main meal it self was lovely but this and dessert was a let down . Also we were asked about allergies but never given an allergy menu.

Typical off the shelf and into the micro meals, passable but don't expect gourmet.

Lovely service by Yasmin & Tia this evening.m, both very smiley and couldn’t do enough for us. Food was great, both had the lamb as we could have ate more it was gorgeous. A very enjoyable evening xx

I always come to the Red cow for food when I’m staying next door .excellent food and drink and good atmosphere. My waitress Daphne needs a special mention a very attentive polite young lady who showed superb customer service and was helpful and mannerly. I hope she is a valued member of the staff as having worked in hospitality myself over 25 years this young lady is a credit to the industry

Food and service was amazing 2nd time here and was just as good as the 1st. Great consistency in standards and quality. Will definitely be back.
