Always a pleasant watering hole but recent revamp has made it even more attractive with a good menu and great beers. Sadly not quite so dog-friendly as before with owners being required to use the 'boot room' or eat outside.

Had a beautiful meal, as always. Not sure what the only poor review a few days ago was talking about ( wonder if it was the wrong pub)- NEVER dirty, excellent service, effective manager and the girls who serve are delightful. Portion sizes are huge and I never finish them ( and that’s saying something!). Staff all have matching Red Cow T-shirts which looks smarter than most pub food venues. They have started opening for drinks on a Monday and Tuesday with free bar snacks, which is great for the locals. Live music some Sundays which I haven’t yet been to, but looking forward to it. Very impressed and hope they don’t change the great staff, phenomenal chef and welcoming atmosphere.

Very disappointed in portion sizes, quality. Staff were scruffy, tables weren’t clean and flies on cills and bothering you whilst eating. We have been going to this pub for 5+ years but of late has recently changed management, there seems to be a constant change of staff - they’ve spent a lot of money doing it up and it’s lovely but they need the right staff to compliment it. Won’t be going back for a long time ☹️

We decided to have a few drinks here as a change to our usual pub & we’re so glad we did. How lovely to have a beer garden that’s just that….a lovely green space free of “children’s play areas” & screaming children! Very pleasant to sit out on a lovely summers evening. We decided on the spur of the moment to eat there as well & we all enjoyed our food, traditional faggots, delicious sausage & mash with a tasty gravy & some great chunky cheesy chips for my son! The staff were all very pleasant & welcoming , something that shouldn’t stand out but these days it sadly does. The refurbishment of the pub has been carried out well & it’s very comfortable . Pity that more people don’t use a village pub that’s literally on their doorsteps…..come on village dwellers….use it or lose it! You’re so lucky to have a village local that’s as good as this one! 5🌟

Last visited The Red Cow 45 years ago when I was 10, I remember the donkey in the field that is now the beer garden. Its changed quite a bit to say the least. Booked a table for Sunday lunch, we ordered the roast beef and lamb. The meal was lovely and freshly cooked, served by a polite and cheerful young lady. Will definitely return to sample other meals.

My wife and I were so looking forward to returning to the Red Cow as we’d heard it had reopened after dining there for many years. The refurbishment couldn’t be faulted. The interior was very upmarket, lovely furnishings and every detail was spot on. We went for Sunday lunch and we were very disappointed. It came as a ‘plated up’ meal. All the meats were ‘slow roasted’ so there was no option for rare beef. Although the lamb shoulder was supposed to be ‘slow roasted’ it was tough. The only saving grace was the gammon. The vegetables could have done with being served separately as not everyone wants a lot served up to them. A full plate could put a lot of people off. We couldn’t fault the service. If they can get the food right it will be what this wonderful country pub deserves.

Ourselves and our disabled Mum have been visiting the Red Cow for a few years now and we’ve always had a fabulous Sunday lunch. Everyone there were always so friendly and accommodating. Unfortunately after returning after the ‘lockdown’ our first visit was just okay but we thought we’d give it another go. We visited today and we ordered Turkey, Lamb and Pork. Whereas in the past the meats were served on the plate with the parsnips etc and then the vegetables were served separately so we could help ourselves but today everything was served on our plates which consisted of cabbage 2 roast carrots and 2 parsnips and there was a dish of peas it was all so uninspiring. The gravy was thin and tasteless. My goodness what has happened to the Red Cow we knew and loved. It wasn’t until we saw another table being served with cauliflower cheese that we enquired why we hadn’t been served that also but we were told that it wasn’t ready when we ordered our meal, unbelievable as we ordered at 1.30. So how would people have got on if they’d come in earlier than us!! We asked to speak to the person in charge to who we explained our unfortunate dining experience but she didn’t want to know and was quite belligerent. She said the resident chef had been taken into hospital but whatever happened to customer relations!! Come back Sue as we won’t be returning!!!!!

Came to the red cow after regular customers for over 20 years. This was when Rita and her husband were owners. I visited for Sunday roast today with my granddaughter. Firstly the place was completely empty. We was the only people eating and drinking. This was due to cancellations we was told. When we walked in we noticed that the place was extremely dirty. There was food on the radiator and food up the walls. The mirrors were covered in fly poop. The decoration of the place was extremely unkept. We sat down at our table and order a drink. My granddaughter had what was supposed to be a glass of saffron blanc white wine. This was sour. My granddaughter gave this back and the new owner said “We have had a few complaints about this wine, it must just be the wine” which I explained it wasn’t and it tasted completely vile. She gave me another glass of wine and said “You will enjoy this one” to which tasted even worse than the original glass my granddaughter had. We then ordered food. We ordered a pate starter turkey, and roasted belly pork dinner. The pate was okay it didn’t have much taste to it whatsoever. The turkey was extremely dry and tasteless. Whilst my granddaughter was was cutting her turkey she noticed thin curly ginger hairs. To me it looked like either cat or dog hair. The trimmings were extremely tasteless and rubbery. My granddaughter who has worked in 5* restaurants and hotels previously, explained to me that perhaps the food had been preheated again. And that the roast potatoes were frozen. The gravy was extremely watery and yet again unfortunately didn’t have any taste. The belly pork was stringy, the crackling was soft fat. It should of been belly pork which the staff member explained that it’s like pulled pork and not belly pork. The new potatoes were tasteless. The carrots were tasty but not hot or even warm. The prices for the food was unreasonable considering the quality of the food. The place is absolutely filthy and the food was revolting. It was completely empty until we left and there was only a few drinking or sat there with the dogs. We will never be returning and we are so sad that we have had this experience when we have been such precious loyal customers for many many years. It’s such a shame.

Just got back from the Red Cow in Ackleton near Worfield for our 20th wedding anniversary. When we got there thought where is everyone and was a bit worried but I needn't of been. Frankie the owner was absolutely brilliant and so helpful from the off. My wife was nervous at going out as it was the first meal since covid and the lack of people suited her but still I was worried food was going to be rubbish. Not a chance it was amazing Deep fried Brie starter with onion chutney outstanding. Fish and chips the best the wife has ever had and I had the slow roast belly pork with mash and veg it was to die for and the gravy so tasty. Frankie was lovely and so was the waitress and Bella the dog so friendly. The wife had chocolate fudge cake and cream to finish and afterwards we couldn't move it was so good and the portions ample. Please please go and try the Red Cow out you will not be dissapointed and Frankie will make you so welcome....oh and Frankie also gave us a couple of glasses of bubbly on the house such a lovely gesture. We will return soon as we can thank you guys

We booked for a Valentine Lunch Friday as we’d heard the food was very good & well worth a visit,we weren’t disappointed. We we’re made so extremely welcome straight away by Sue & Clive the proprietors, who we’d never met before. I was kindly advised on the Steak & Kidney homemade pie for myself after struggling to choose from the menu/specials board, along with the favoured choice of Saddle of Lamb for my better half, which we both enjoyed immensely. We then spent a very pleasant time having a chat by the log burner & sharing a drink with our wonderfully charismatic hosts also shared with us light hearted, entertaining tales of past & present. We we’re that impressed we hoped to repeat the experience with Sunday lunch for our family & yet again everything surpassed our expectations. With yet again a beautiful greeting on entering by Sue & Clive, we sampled one of the best Homely Sunday Lunches you could hope to taste. After a variety of starters including a gorgeous homemade pate, we tucked into the mains from the divine Sirloin Roast Rare Beef,Tender Lamb &The Hearty Half of Perfectly Crispy Cooked Duck, all served with perfectly cooked vegetables & potatoes. A truly sublime meal in every way. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Sue & Clive for there wonderful hospitality & each one of the friendly, helpful staff & Chef/Chefs for such a wonderful experience. Superb. Thankyou.

Done all the expensive NYE venues around and taking turns round the houses, over at least twenty five years. This time we decided no more black tie and no one hostess saddled with all the cooking. The Red Cow came with wholesome food at a sensible price.Well-staffed, no waiting for drinks, lovely and warm with a friendly greeting. Now your glass is either half empty or half full. New Year dinners have in the past been spent round the table, with us creating our own chat, some good wines and the inevitable bubbly at midnight. The difference this year, someone else did all the work.It was a French themed event, so obviously there were lots of duplicate characters from Hello Hello. We knew before we booked, it was to be, or so we thought, sausage and mash with onion gravy at £35. In the event there was a choice Sausage and Mash, or Coque au Vin, a choice of four sweets, a cheese table with at least six choices and three bottles of port. So in my book, very good value for money, considering the wage bill, which would sure to be at a premium on NYE. Sadly one table cancelled and one party just failed to show. How rude.Normal evening dining here is great and Sunday lunch, I go for the duck or the beef. If you want duck, say so when you book, it is very popular. I never recommend a dish, as one man s meat ......

Being of that age where we all prefer meat well cooked, we couldn’t have wished for any better. We have been to this pub lots of times and l always have the roast duck, which is fabulous. It has changed hands and some how l felt l did not want to go back. But after a morning out visiting garden centres, we were close, so thought we would try it. The staff were very friendly but the first thing the barmaid said was " if you want a meal you will have to hurry up and order, we stop serving at 2pm !" Not a good start. I ordered my usual roast duck, l was told . no orange sauce, only gravy. Ok, I will try it. I asked for fresh vegetables which l always do (they used to do carrots, broccoli, cauliflower etc in a little dish) only peas ! My boyfriend ordered the gammon. His meal was lovely, hot well cooked and tasty. My mash potato was very nice, forget the peas, they were dry, tasted as if they had been cooked and put on one side, The duck was awful, very dry, some of the meat l could not even chew and the gravy was tasteless !! It was not cheap £16-99. It wasn't worth £6-99 ! What a shame., to be fair they did say Simon the chef was still there but it was his day off. Surely he could have left some orange sauce in the fridge. It just proves that sometimes when places are taken over, it does not work and we will not be going again. If anyone knows somewhere where they do a decent roast duck and orange sauce l would be grateful if they could put it on trip Advisor.

Very disappointing! Prawn cocktail starters were sitting in an inch of water and when this was pointed out it was taken away and brought back with absolutely no comment.

Despite the road being closed, there is definitely access to the Red Cow and thankfully Holden’s have put signs up on the road to inform potential punters that the pub is still open.

As a regular customer I feel really disappointed how things have changed somewhat at The Red Cow recently and will now be visiting other venues to dine in future,

Wow, good old fashioned pub food and plenty of it! I had the belly draft from the specials board and was not disappointed. Husband had the chilli chicken and in laws fish and fish pie. Fish pie was home made and looked delicious! Will be having that next time. Staff are friendly and it’s a dog friendly pub

Having been told they were running 20 minutes late, it was actually an hour and a half before our meals arrived, by which time they’d also run out of one of the meals. If they’d been honest with us in the first place we’d have gone elsewhere. Food was okay, but 2 rounds of drinks and lots of apologies doesn’t make up for a spoiled evening, and being fobbed off and seeing people who arrived after us served before us. Sorry, I hate to write a bad review, but have no choice. Disappointing.

The food at the Red Cow is just getting and better. Visited last night with my hubby. He had the steak & ale pie with huge amounts of chunky steak in a mouth watering gravy, all covered with a crispy puff pastry top. He said it was the best pie he had ever had. I had the slow cooked belly pork. A great slab of the most tender tasty pork with a crackling top in a lovely gravy. Both meals were excellent and great value for money. Thanks to the 2 chefs. You make a great team x

This pub we visited after a recommendation from a friend and we were not disappointed. The steak I had was lovely. I highly recommend this pub to anyone looking for decent pub grub. Not the cheapest place we have ever been but you get what you pay for and we will be back for more.

Very pleasant meal, large portions, but the pub wasn't very full so lacked atmosphere we felt. could benefit from having a garden area to sit out in on summer days/nights, there are benches at the front but your right on the carpark.

On a hot August Sunday we were greeted by the fantastic friendly hosts. To start we had lovely Gin and Tonics with Summer Berries whilst we chose from the menu. Despite the heat the restaurant was lovely and cool. Service and food could not be faulted. The food and silver service was exceptional - piping hot and delightful staff . The Duck was tender - the rare beef was rare and perfect. Such professionalism and friendliness - will be back !!

Visited with 3 friends for an evening meal. Warm welcome at the bar and shown to our table. Had a lovely meal, served promptly by friendly staff. One of our party is veggie and found plenty of choice. Generous portions meant we couldn't manage dessert. All mains were offered with achoice of new potatoes, jacket or chips. The chips were great. They advertise as dog friendly and the resident dog wandered in and out of the dining area, but wasn't a nuisance, in fact quite cute.

Lunch for two. We both had the roast duck which was superb. Beautifully cooked, crispy skin, good chips - what's not to like? And we finished with their take on a Knickerbocker Glory, which was a generous portion of ice cream and went down very well. Downsides? the loo was a bit airless and smelly; and one of us is mobility impaired and would have preferred a disabled-access loo but there doesn't appear to be one. All told a great experience and we'll be back soon!

Recently taken over by a new management couple with a wealth of experience in the pub/restaurant industry. They are already making great improvements to a tired decor and have unveiled fabulous beer garden perfect for the summer. A bonus is that dogs are extremely welcome !

went there last night 07.06.18. Usually stop outside for a pint on my dog walk, returned the glasses to the bar one visit & received a lovely warm welcome & caught a glimpse of the specials bored so decided to dine next visit. Must say the pub is very clean, warm & welcoming. The staff are very friendly and the service warranted leaving a tip. The selection of food was great & focused mainly on fish (which i will be trying next time). Food came out and presentation was great & came out in a good timely fashion with a nice space between starters & mains. Well anyway i ordered rack of lamb which was a reasonable price. I asked for it pink & guess what guys pink is what i got. My partner ordered chicken in a broccoli & Stilton sauce which was delicious. The veg was fresh & i could defiantly tell that Chef Mike had not been involved of the cooking of our meals. No we could not hear the ping of the microwave.. How did i forget the starter.....forgive me.... Homemade chicken liver pate! Amazing it was served with warm ciabatta style bread.ACE! The pints were lovely and great tasting and reasonably priced.....Its the first time as a chef i have gone out and not complained about my meal.....i will defiantly be re-visiting this beautiful country pub that is full of charm & character, great food & friendly staff. Did i mention its dog friendly???? Keep up the good work guys. A+++++++++++++++++

Had a really enjoyable meal at the Cow, we both had pate to start which was incredibly tasty with warm fresh bread. For mains went for the belly pork and steak, lots of vegetables and beautifully cooked. Comprehensive menu, most difficult thing was choosing what to have so will have to visit again soon to try something else.

It must have been close on 3 years since we last came here and are now greeted with a change of ownership and the place being dog friendly. The staff are still all there, even the food seems to have improved a little even though I did not think that possible, but there is a positive change in atmosphere from the extremely warm welcome we had, to the service from Beth. Fillet steaks were amazing. Bella the dog is delightful, we'll be back soon.

Lovely people producing high quality meats. It’s difficult to pick a favourite as everything we bought here was delicious. Really well flavoured salamis, prosciutto and coppa and definitely try the black bacon cured in molasses for a really top notch breakfast. Also stocks a small range of good, mostly local preserves, cheeses and eggs.

Really friendly pub, I was greeted by Caroline at the bar who was really happy. After a long day at work and away from home this was a lovely welcome. The mix grill was really good value and enjoyable. I will definitely come again.

This was our second long awaited visit - last time it was to celebrate the anniversary of our first date - this time both our birthdays. I mention this because we were greeted with a card each and an additional surprise at the end. The whole experience is an absolute joy, the atmosphere, service and wonderful food. Some of the courses challenged my palate - in a very positive way. The attention to detail and the flavours are outstanding. This makes it great value for money - not cheap but very good value. Deservedly fully booked
