Proper English pub with friendly staff and sensible pricing

It was Sunday. I found myself on my own and a roast lunch is what I craved. This restaurant delivered on every level on what constitutes a hearty, flavoursome roast lunch and the helping of reserved tables I am none too surprised at seeing by my reckoning. I ate the honey gammon with chicken, fluffy on the inside and roasted to perfection roast potatoes, green beans, swede mash with cracked pepper, infused red cabbage, Yorkshire pudding, herb stuffing, redcurrant sauce, a generous side of oven baked cauliflower in cheese sauce, carrots and ample full-bodied meat infused gravy.

Had a few drinks in this pub and the service was excellent.

The roast might be excellent along with the broccoli and cauly cheese dish, but is knocked into touch by the chocolate cake with lashings of choc sauce and ice-cream. Not a chance of a second sharing spoon, it is all mine. The price was also oh so good. Best to book.

Got to say this is the best roast I’ve had in years. Meat was soft n juicy . Vegetables were so well cooked and roast potatoes were outstanding.portions were very good size. EXCEPTIONAL ROAST. Staff were friendly and went out of their way to make sure you had everything. Beautiful quaint pub with wonderful atmosphere. Highly recommend. We will be back 💯. Donna and Paul 🥰🥰

Fantastic little pub, most excellent couple of pints

Only had drinks and sat in the garden, but everything good and nothing to complain about.

First time I have been there would of been really nice if weather was nice so could sit in garden

Best ploughman's ever. You did not need to ask what type of ploughman's, it had everything.

The pub was not busy, even though we were there on Thursday evening. The food was great and the music was quiet enough to allow us to talk.

We had a pie and chips with vegetables. Probably the worse meal we have ever had in Sandwich. The pie was mundane and the chips not nice but the peas and carrots were obviously frozen. The carrots were all the same size and still cold on the inside. The toilets were not clean and the floor was dirty. We will not go back. The only positive was the pint. It was very cheap but no point having a cheap meal if it tastes awful.

Fantastic pub with welcoming staff. We couldn't rate the Sunday roasts highly enough this weekend. We were a large group camping nearby and had a few drink stops to shelter from the rain at the Red Cow and the staff especially the landlord was so friendly, the service was great. We came back on Sunday for a delicious roast and a lovely drink in the garden listening to the brilliant live music. Highly rated thanks guys we will be back! 👍

The Red Cow is the best pub in sandwich!! The pub garden was clean with a great atmosphere. Elderflower, roses and fresh mint growing to name a few. The selection of drinks is excellent and good value. All the staff were friendly and served us instantly. (Try the deep fried, crispy chilli beef!!!) if you’re going to go anywhere in sandwich come here. The manager is also the host! Will return when I can

Had a wonderful unexpected evening at the Red cow last night, Saturday, friendly staff. Good beer and great way to start our weekend. We will definitely return.

Nice old pub in the 2023 Good beer guide several nice cask beers ... sadly closes'at 6pm (Bank Holiday Monday)... tables and a few sofas and hops as decorations... beams etc.

Fantastic little pub, first time visit for us with our daughter and wee little puppy. The guys (we think may run it) were great and very friendly, food was fantastic and beer was really good and clean. It has a really friendly, relaxing feel and it's so nice to see a proper pub doing so well.

Leuk restaurant met vriendelijke bediening. Lekkere houthaard en hond is welkom. Prima simpele gerechten.

We went in for a few pints, great pub, beer and staff, worth visiting.

Had lunch at the Red Cow today and it was great. Warmly welcomed and the beer and cider on offer were first class. The food was really tasty and best of all, it was dog friendly. Will definitely return.

Absolutely 5 star experience, starter and main meal was superb, such a welcoming old worldly inn, I will definitely revisit 110%,thankyou to all the staff at the Red cow.

Quite busy as folk and ale festival but bar staff are not paying any attention to who is at the bar first so many people are leaving as they are not being served and people who have come in after are. Shame.

Friendly staff, nice location with limited parking at the front of the establishment. More public parking nearby. Food was disappointing and over priced. We won't be returning or recommending.

Real gem of a pub. Beautiful inside and out. Fantastic beers too.

Stopped off at this old English pub. Historically it is lovely inside with black and white photo of the bar in the past. Hops adorn the bar, large traditional open fire places with open brick walls and beamed ceilings. 2 large sofas give a very homely feel if you manage to get one. The bar has a fair range of drinks but was limited on ales. Clearly a popular bar with locals. If you want a quiet drink in this cinque port then pop in.

Lovely pub, great welcome and a real wood fire. Perfect.

Coffee was shocking until we pointed that out which was then replaced and slight improvement. We got no more milk with the replaced coffees until we asked. Platter (for 3) and coffee (for 2) was the only thing to eat and we feel it was expensive (total £36) for what it was. Nice old pub though. No menus on show or description of platter!? Also, only one person serving at bar and food.

Great pub, great ale, Covid proofing really brilliant for Kent, felt safe

Nice building. No other customers though on our arrival. The Landlady overcharged me when questioned, openly admitted she'd made a mistake, but did not admit it until 'I' questioned it! Dirty glasses. And then overheard that even though another customer had pre booked a family meal..and scampi was required She then told them on their arrival there was none!!!!! Not good first impressions

What a delightful pub. This was our first pub to visit post lockdown. I felt safe and secure in the pub. There is leadership and coordinated approach to make the place a safe and relaxing environment. Very clean toilet facilities.

Fantastic quality home cooked food. Great beer and best if all, an amazing welcome from Nina and Barry, two perfect hosts in a really great atmospheric pub. Fab in the winter and even better in the summer with a great garden area. Visiting Sandwich, DON'T miss the Red Cow..

We've had a lot of Sunday roasts around East Kent but the Red Cow's is still the best (in our opinion!). Very consistent so you always know it's going to be good, plenty of gravy (we invariably have to ask for extra elsewhere), a host of different vegetables including cauliflower/broccoli cheese - yum), and the best roasties. Oh and the butternut squash soup I had today was delish. My advice? Don't have any breakfast!

Lovely atmosphere, staff were friendly and welcoming. Had sunday lunch and it was really good, service was excellent too. They could consider smaller portions as I had no room to try one of the puddings!

A lovely olde worlde pub with an open fire to sit by on a cold night. Very welcoming and good beer. They do serve meals and the menu looks inviting but we did not try the food this time, but on the list for the weekend.

Lovely pub and staff but £4:00 a pint of Gadds ale bit steep for East Kent.

We take our grandchildren here (well behaved kids allowed in til 9pm) they love it, we get good food and service, and there are loads of board games that we play on tables away from the bar so don't feel we are disturbing other customers. Relaxing, comfortable pub.

Ein schöner Pub mit guter Küche, die nicht nur englische Standards bietet sondern kulinarisch über die Insel hinwegschaut. Die Kneipe selbst ist sehr urig und hat ein tolles Ambiente, wer aber über 170cm groß ist sollte sich vorsehen, ich bin mehr als einmal mit der Birne saftig an einen Balken geknallt....

Nice warm atmosphere and a clean, cold, crisp pint..foods excellent too.

Teilweise sehr schöne alte Holzbalken, passende Deko, und mein Essen war zwar nicht ganz günstig, aber lecker, und der Nachtisch unglaublich süß, eine echte englische Süßigkeit, davon sollte ein Mensch nicht viel essen, aber lecker ist das!

I like this traditional pub, nice choice of real ales, and good range of other beers and spirits. I've always enjoyed the meals I have had ear. Friendly, helpful people working in the pub. Nice beer garden

The best Sunday roast in Thanet by a mile. Tastes like the home cooked roast my dear old Nan used to make. Even the gravy was heavenly. We ordered two lamb shank roasts. The lamb fell off the bone and almost melted in the mouth. Crispy and fluffy roast potatoes, roasted carrots and a very generous serving of varied green veg. They even served a side plate of cauliflower and broccoli cheese. Everything was cooked perfectly. Staff are attentive and we were greeted with a warm welcome. Very good selection of real ales. Had London pride and two Gadds. I opted for the Gadds Folk'n'ale. A light, mildly hoppy ale which is only 3.8%. Served with a smile. The locals are very friendly, which adds to the charm of this cosy, beautiful pub. But THAT roast dinner....

Really nice very busy pub and a very nice garden to sit eat or drink very friendly..

The roast beef was not medium rarebut tough I put on a plate and the waiter said I had received the wrong helping so brought helping of medium rare to the table even with a steak knife that I had to ask for it was difficult to cut up and again tough so I left all the beef only partial apology and no offer of reduction on bill. Will not visit again having driven many miles to the pub

Nice friendly country pub within walking distance of the caravan park. Loved the meat Fajitas, Gammon, and homemade pies, all great value for money!

Have been to the red cow for lunch a few times but never an evening meal we booked with the in-laws for a birthday meal and the food was amazing all home cooked and plentiful. Resonable priced as well would defiantly go back. Well done red cow
