The Red Cafe in East Northamptonshire

Staying in Higham Ferrers for a couple of days for a wedding. Took a walk in the morning looking for a good breakfast and found this lovely little café. Great, friendly service and excellent food at very reasonable prices.

I go in there sometimes when I’m passing through the village. It’s a very nice little cafe which seems to be run by a family. Sausages need to be cooked a bit longer. Brown on the outside but uncooked/mushy in the middle. Everything else was great

Thought I’d give this a go and wasn’t disappointed. Full plate of food, well worth the money! Staff polite and friendly, good service. Could have done with an extra slice of toast on the big breakfast but nothing to write home about.

Ordered online via Just Eat food expected delivery over 1/30mins but delivered well before due. (Which is good service) Ordered Medium Breakfast and Cheese burger, the breakfast was missing beans and tomatoes but restaurant was due to close so unsure if they had ran out. Milkshakes very nice and Cheese burger but not keen on the chips nor some items from the breakfast but the hash browns were good. Overall bits missing and a tad overpriced for missing items, have had delivery before no issues.

Overpriced, the staff were rude not only to us but to each other and the food was awful, not happy 😡

I gave this place 1 star review just because the door was open. Turned up Saturday morning there were 3 people sitting down eating. I asked for a bacon and egg sandwich and a tea to take away. The reply was 30 minutes to 45 minutes for a takeaway but it would be considerably quicker if I sat down to eat it. !!!! Errrr how does that work ? More staff than customers and using the excuse that they have a lot of online orders !!! YEP ! on a Saturday morning when most companies are closed for the weekend. I would prefer to say that they are bone idle to go along with the attitude and this was the perfect example of them having an easy Saturday morning. If I was able to sit down and get my food in a reasonable time why does it take between 30 minutes to 45 minutes for a takeaway ? I just walked out in the end and found somewhere else that was ACTUALLY BUSY but were not as bone idle as to not want to serve you because they wanted to take it easy. USELESS.

We always enjoy going to The Red Cafe but is it necessary to have so much bread roll around the bacon. Bacon is very plentiful but the roll is far to big and very lacking in spread on it .

Excellent breakfast, always go for the 10 item for £8.50. Food always cooked well and you can’t go wrong with a proper cafe breakfast! Lady in there is always extremely friendly! Need to come here and try having a lunch.

Definitely one of the best fish and chips around. We always get our fish, chips and pies from Red Cafe as the food is fantastic and we have also used their delivery service which was very fast and the food was hot and fresh. Can’t recommend this place enough and also lovely staff.

This was my first visit to the Red Cafe but family members required to soak up a hangover so a visit with kids was in order. There were 7 of us in total and we struggled to get space. I was amazed by the size of the menu. It was way more extensive than most other cafe’s of this type and considerably better priced. I had the small breakfast which was very good value. My nephew had the chicken platter which comprised of 2 pieces of chicken, loads of chips and what looked like a 200g tub of coleslaw on it. All of that was just over a fiver. Service wasn’t overly fast but honestly you could tell that everything was made fresh. I’m happier with that than having meals microwaved quickly. Good to see a small place doing well.

I go here often for their budget breakfast - 13 items (2 x eggs, 2 x bacon, 2 x sausage, 2 x black pudding, 2 x hash browns, toast, beans, tomatoes PLUS coffee) for a fiver. The food on that breakfast isn't the highest quality but it fills a gap and costs very little. Service is prompt and polite, the place is usually bustling and food is served freshly cooked. Well worth a visit

Pleasantly surprised by the attentive young male and female servers. Asking me how my day was while serving quality, quick and tasty food.

This is good to get decent food..quick clean and cheap. Always get good portions and a variety of choices

After hearing good reviews and it being on my door step I decided to call in for a breakfast. Sat morning about 10am was absolutely full to the brim with people, no tables spare. The waitresses were all very young but very polite and helpful. The menu was fab, so much to choose from I had a cooked breakfast which did take an absolute age to arrive, but they were busy and do cook everything from scratch, the waitresses kept us supplied in toast, 4 slices each and then more with our food. The food was ok, nothing special but not cooked badly either. I do think it is a little expensive but not extortionate. I will return but at a quieter time, I think the cafe has great potential but they do need to speed up a little and maybe look at bigger premises so we not all sat on each others laps.

2 bacon 2 eggs 2 sausage 2 toast 1 tea nearly £11 ridiculous. !

I wish we had a little café like this in Birmingham! I always visit with friends when back home, delicious breakfasts! They also do other typical café style meals, which are also delicious. Staff always friendly, like I said I always return when visiting home.

This used to be a fav cafe for my family on a Sunday post football but unfortunately it has lost a bit of direction when it first opened! Normally expect a full house in there around 11.30 on a Sunday but the place was empty apart from the staff. Warmly greeted as normal and the drinks & food arrived swiftly but not up to its usual standard. My youngest commented that the cheese toastie was not like it use to be and chips too. My breakfast was pretty bland and none eventful. It’s a shame as it use be a cracking cafe and full with local atmosphere. Hopefully a few tweaks could spin fortunes back round and will try again in a few weeks time.

Lovely clean cafe with top notch breakfasts and service with a smile - perfect little pit stop when you need to recharge your batteries. The coffee is also to die for especially the cappuccino. Good value for money and good variety of choice.

Rate highly. Lovely little place. Staff are friendly and on the ball, breakfasts are made to your preference and you are guaranteed a relaxed experience.

Just nice to eat somewhere a little bit different - great service - and friendly - portions are great and not overpriced - seems like a very popular meeting place for all

It's my local cafe and my favourite, the food here is all freshly cooked and of good quality, the breakfasts are superb and not at all greasy like a lot of places, they do really lovely salads too and the homemade dressing is delicious, the pancakes here are the best I've personally had anywhere and are a meal in themselves, if your looking for a great cafe meal the Red Cafe should be your first port of call.

I love this cafe!! Great service from lovely people. You get huge mugs of tea, and really good full English breakfasts. We pop in here often, and can really recommend the food and service here.

Cannot fault it, immaculately clean good service and great food, £5 for full 13 item breakfast cooked to order with hot drink and toast, fav place to eat in town for good eats.

Popped in on a Sunday afternoon for a milkshake. My son loved it!!!The staff were really friendly and the place looked really busy.

Great local breakfast always friendly staff clean and good quality food parking is the only let down but good to walk a hearty breakfast off .

My work colleague and I tried this little cafe for a Friday morning breakfast treat, the food was good quality and tasted nice. The prices are a little high compare to other similar cafes we use and the portions could be bigger. The drinks were off that morning as they had leak...

We had lunch, my husband ordered scampi and chips which was ok but I ordered hand carved ham, egg and chips. When it arrived it clearly was processed ham. When I complained I was told that the supplier had run out of ham so this was its replacement which clearly was not hand carved. The ham was wet and sloppy so I left the majority of it. Disappointing.

We are visiting from Australia & desperate to try a proper English breakfast. Red Cafe offer a wide choice of good food very well priced. I think this cafe is great.

Placed an online order for delivery and it was declined with no reason, even though we've ordered from here before! Won't order again!

It isnt fair to label the cafe' as a 'greasy spoon' because it has quite a strong branding identity which works very well and there isn't much to choose from locally at the kind of price charged, which is reasonable.Its not the kind of breakfast I would ordinarily go for but hey its good to eat greasy occasionally instead of bran!The ingredients are basic; wholesale, high volume and not so great but the quantity is well proportioned for a hungry worker. Tea is good and comes in a mug.Having been there a few times, my only concerns revolve around around staff attitude which, with few exceptions, tends toward the impolite and abrupt.Unfortunately, youngsters working there on a Saturday are not given good 'customer facing' examples from the man in charge.I am very happy to pay extra for a customised breakfast rather than sticking exactly to the exact menu. Twice now it has been 'challenging', with a poor brow beaten youth being scolded by the owner for daring to voice a customer desire.It seems such a shame because a happy experience would have earned the Red Cafe at least a higher grade and probably make the staff feel better doing an otherwise thankless job. Might have got a tip too!I will go back and try again and hope to see some improvement which would be nice.

Been here with the fella a few times now and have left satisfied each time. Our usual visit is for a fry up of which there are plenty of variations or build your own which is nice as I'm quite fussy. Lots of other items on the menu which we haven't tried yet but look yum. Staff friendly and attentive.

The most inflexible cafe on the planet!! I wanted to order the medium breakfast which comes with 2 x sausages, 1 x bacon, 1 x hash brown, 1 x egg, baked beans and tomatoes. I don't eat sausages so I asked if I could swap the two sausages for two bits of bacon. To which I was told I could only swap one thing, so I could only have one extra bit of bacon and still have to have one sausage. I asked if I could swap the two sausages for two bits of bacon to which I was told NO! I could only swap one thing, REALLY? Are you actually for real????

Very clean, well organised. Staff polite and helpful.Fish smashing, large and tasty. Chips better than many.Definitely the best for miles around.And deliver too if needed which is unusual for a chippy!

Room to small to fit a a standerd pram, although friendly staff do try and accommodate as easily as possible. Love the food, but didnt like that you cant swap food items. Was recommended to us and have recommended to others.

We've only eaten Breakfast here, but have done it several times and it's always been really very good. It's even better value when they have special offers.

Went here for the first time a couple of weeks ago and if you are after a cheap quick feed up then its perfect.A fry up for me is to be enjoyed but unfortunately the cheap ingredients, lack of atmosphere and the big miserable looking geezer staring at everyone makes it a no from me.Instant coffee is a fail and the sausages, well I bet they cost £2 for a thousand of them. For a fry with decent coffee, larger portions, better quality food and no miserable geezer go to cafe@25 in Irthlingborough.

The kids and I decided to go out for breakfast to The Red Cafe. The kids really enjoyed the meals. The hash browns, sausages, beans, eggs and toast hit the spot as usual. I really like the open feel of the restaurant. Hearing the crackling of the grill and all the wonderful smells fill the restaurant makes it feel very welcoming.

Tried the value breakfast offer, four of us had full breakfast including drink for £20 total. The place was very busy which is always a good sign. Food is all cooked fresh and on the spot and was served by friendly staff. Well done !

Visited here a couple of times with my partner, absolutely beautiful food on both occasions. A true English breakfast! A 13 piece breakfast for £5? You cannot go wrong with that! My only criticism would be that the staff aren't that friendly but that's just minor I suppose, you don't go for the company of staff it just helps to have a friendly face greeting you. Overall a lovely place and will be returning.

Took 2 children here for breakfast and it was great. Staff were helpful and friendly and food was good, served quickly and hot. Read a few comments moaning about the owner but at the end of the day it's his business. Don't like it then don't go. I will certainly go back.

I haven't visited for breakfast in a while & found my last visit a bit of a dissapointment, at £7.50 I do expect a bit more, my main complaint are the sausages, cheap & nasty pink so full of cereal rather than meat.The cafe is spotless & service swift with everything cooked to order, you can get a little more at Wetherspoons for a lot less money with tasty sausages.!I no longer order coffee as it's expensive & frankly horrible.

A nice little cafe but it's disappointing it's not open on Mondays now as we used to like to go there for lunch before going to dancing at the nearby WMC

I don't know if the owner/manager was having a bad day but his attitude was awful. Went in with a group of friends to have something to eat having spent time at the farmers market, visiting some of the local shop's etc, one of our group moved a chair and the manager came over and said in an aggressive manner "you can't sit there you are in the gangway" we understood the reason why and said that we were a group of six and trying to make the most of being sociable. Again in an aggressive manner we were told "you should have booked" One of our party is hard of hearing and asked his wife what was going on and do the story was retold. Suddenly the manager came storming down to where we were sitting and said "if you dont like it there's the door" needless to say we all left and we will not be going back! The cafe was not full and a number of people looked shocked at his outburst. Spoilt our day in Higham Ferrers and was very embarrassing for two of out party who live there.

Just been here with a friend had a big breakfast £7.50 and a huge portion Exellent food good service with a smile bit disappointed with the rip off cup of coffee for £1.60 wouldn't come here again due to this

We popped in for a breakfast on sat 28th march. It was yummy - lots of it and cooked lovely. It didn't take very long to get to the table. Service was quick and good. If there was an empty plate on the table it wasn't long till a staff member to go past and collect it.

After a hard mornings work, we stopped of at red cafe for lunch. I had a cooked breakfeast and it was smashing, the bacon was lovely and the sausages some of the best i have ever tasted. To top it off I had a latte, which was also nice very similar to costa. I was ready for the rest of my day once i could get up from my seat!

Me and my partner had a breakfast here today, I have been Before around 10 months ago and it was fine, this visit I'm afraid was not a good one and I'm sorry to say it was one of the worst breakfasts I've ever had. The mushrooms were the only thing which were nice, the bacon was in cooked and tasteless, the egg wasn't cooked and the sausages were the worst I've ever tasted. I wanted to give my feedback when paying, but my partner didn't want the embarrassment. They need heating in there also as it was freezing in there. Sorry, I do not mean to sound harsh with this, but I hope this feedback now is listened too and maybe spend a bit more money on your cheap sausages?. Thanks.

We live just around the corner from the new Red Cafe in Rushden so thought we'd give it a go, and oh my goodness why haven't we been driving into Higham all these years! The staff were really friendly and the food was done in minutes, and then we got home and devoured the lot! I'd highly recommend!

This red cafe is a fish and chip shop the fish is great also the chips nice staff very clean the cod melts in your mouth very reasonable priced food serve hot and always seem so fresh the batter is a 1 give it a try

I took my daughter here for a spot of breakfast.....I decided to order one of the set breakfasts but asked if I could change tomatoes for mushrooms......the male owner was very abrupt and told me I would have to order something different if I didn't want exactly what the set menu was, "you can't change the set menu" i was taken aback by his bad attitude and therefore have not returned. They need to serve their customers with flexibility and respect or we will go else where!!!

A friend and I went for a long walk and we stopped off for a coffee and a bacon sandwich, the service was. Fantastic and food was hot the cafe was very clean,I will definitely be returning.:-)

I'd heard much about the cafe so I took the kids, I'm always up for a good brunch.I'm always a bit disappointed when as a result of my allergy to tomatoes I lose out on something so it was a shame they don't do any swaps, some places are happy to give me something else.The bacon wasn't the best, a bit undercooked and unsmoked which was a shame, the sausages were nice though and the eggs cooked well. The hash browns not too greasy. They didn't pour a great deal of water into the pot of tea for two so we ended up being worse off than if we'd had a pot for one each.Service was good, very quick and attentive and the atmosphere overall was good so it was a nice place to enjoy the meal. It's not especially expensive so I have to say it was pretty good in the end, not the best I've had but perfectly eatable and I'd probably go again.

Very good prices. Value for money. Quick service and friendly staff. Oh and if you are fortunate enough to go on a day when they have bubble n squeak on the menu you are indeed in for a flavoursome treat!

Typical Cafe food.............BUT, good service (with a smile !), good quantity, clean inside and great cost. If it's a fry up and luchtime grub you're looking for, this is the place, it's not Cordon Bleu, but it's not claiming to be !!

This is an OK cafe but don't try to order anything that is not 100% as written on the menu! The attitude of the owner stinks! On two occasions we have been to this establishment and in the first instance we wanted to order the special but he told us that we couldn't have it because we were a few minutes after the finishing time of the offer. The place was empty (much as it often is) but instead of serving us with a pleasant "we don't normally serve this meal outside the times but I will get it for you on this occasion" like any pleasant business owner would do, he would rather take no money to cover his overheads, the griddle was heated up and the cafe was empty anyway! We let this slide, thinking maybe he's had a bad day but when we went for a coffee there last week I really fancied a chip butty. So I asked the lady serving if I could have one, she seemed nervous to ask but did turn to him who was standing up the other end of the cafe leaning against the counter and inquired if I could have a chip butty, in a very off handed, snotty way he replied "no, it's not on the menu!" For God's sake, you serve chips and you serve bread and butter, put the two together and you've got a chip butty, not exactly rocket science is it? How the owner manages to run a business sporting the sort of off handed attitude he has astounds me. Chill out man! You are supposed to be providing a service for the members of the public.Lose the attitude and maybe your cafe wouldn't be best part empty for most of the day.

Have been told about this cafe on many occasions and now finally had a chance to visit. Firstly your greeted with a friendly welcome which is rare these days. I was then given told about the menu by my server who's name was Jason I think. He was very knowledgeable on the food and I opted for their big breakfast. The food came out very quickly and was served on a hot plate which is a real plus. The food was perfectly cooked bacon was real quality stuff was really thick almost as thick as gammon. The eggs were just as I like them. To be honest it's probably one of the best fry ups I have had. I travel quite a bit for my job and see many cafes but I really do like this one. I guarantee I will be returning very soon.

Have been here twice not on both times the food is perfect. I had a £5 breakfast which included everything you could want. It's was piping hot non greasy and most of all very tasty. Its very popular with locals as both times I have been in it seems busy to be honest I'm gutted as I'm moving away as this is a local facility in Higham Ferrers which is what most little towns can only dream off. If I'm back in the area I will be back in.

The Red Cafe by far serves the best breakfast around here! Very fresh ingredients, delicious, hot and all properly cooked, reasonable price, nice atmosphere, great staff... my son loves the milkshakes! Only one problem from my point of view - I don't like the coffee. It seems like it's cappuccino from a sachet? I'm not sure about that but I don't enjoy it. I'm a bit of a coffee-holic so it's probably just me. I think they should invest in a coffee machine, or at least a filter coffee maker! Please!!

I came from perth WA and heard of this place, wanting a uk fry up after many years of terrible ones in Australia. This was fantastic value and was totally excellent as well. Served great. And free wifiGreat !! Thanks Glen

This is an Ok place to eat. It is good for people passing through the town but me and my friend went in there and I could afford barley anything. I had a coke which was a lot more expensive than the take away a few doors down at which I had eaten in a few days before. If your on your own and fancy something then it's good, however with 2 or more people the take away is better value for money.The food is nice but I wouldn't say pathway it is anything spectacular.

I last reviewed the Red Cafe at Higham Ferrers 14 months ago, since then I've eaten there most weeks (sometimes twice a week).The quality and quantity of food is consistent, day in, day out - it's still great!The plates are the same colour as last year (but are new) and we now have table cloths which enhance the look!The whole place is constantly sparkling clean from the the table legs to the food prep area and they have earned an excellent 5 star hygiene rating (have a look at the scores of other local eateries!)Staff are genuinely pleasant, attentive and polite which is refreshing to see these days.Theres a comprehensive breakfast menu with top quality ingredients - There are even two 'value' breakfast choices which include tea or coffee. Build your own breakfast starts at £3.80...There are healthy options such as porridge for um... those that eat porridge.Lunch consists of a variety of excellent quality burgers, jackets and light bites, plus Jason's now-famous sandwiches.If you've a sweet tooth you won't be disappointed either and with ice cream and/or pick and mix for dessert or a treat you just can't go wrong.I would certainly disregard any negative reviews as I simply cannot fault the team.

Fantastic value for money, excellent choice of food and drink, and friendly service. A great place to enjoy a breakfast out on a budget or a cuppa with a book. Highly reccommended.

wow had a 13 piece breakfast it was gorgeous. It was cooked fresh and was pipping hot. Lovely bacon nice thick cut bread also. Decent mug of latte too. I got this for £5.50 total bargain. I would say the place has about 30 ish seats and in the time I was there they could have filled it three times over. The cafe has a nice buzz about it, lots of different people from young and old. The menu was very good also, lots of choice. seems a very popular place with the local kids coming in for milkshakes, looking at the milkshake menu I'm not surprised as there are many choices. anyway totally recommend this place it's a real gem, and next time I'm in the area I will definitely be back.

We visited here for the first time last week and was not disappointed.Staff were polite, helpful and friendly. Cafe was nicely decorated and very clean.Food was lovely, cooked fresh and very tasty.Wish I had been told I would still be charged for chips with my burger when I asked if I could just have a burger alone but Would visit again

I had 2 eggs 2 sausages bacon tomatoes beans a few chips with a cuppa tea for £8:90 which I thought was dear and I also on another occasion tryed the steak n kidney pudding which contains a bit of grissle with no kidney :(

Traditional cafe with good quality food at reasonable prices, never had cause to grumble and I'm really fussy.. Staff are friendly and welcoming and the place is always clean and well presented...

Had lunch here......great menu, good service, lovely food and very clean!!!!! Cant stand going into a cafe and it looking dirty!! Will definitely revisit and may take advantage of the pick n mix at the back ;-)

Excellent service, great food and good value for money. This cafe does what it says on the tin.The choice of breakfast was very varied, was well cooked and not greasy like some places you go to.Looking forward to going back.

I have eaten here a few times over the past few months since moving to the area, really clean, nice friendly owner and staff. The breakfast have been brilliant each time, at the moment they have a 5pound offer for a full English and a tea/coffee. Bargain.

Found this on TA and wanted a home made lunch. Too much choice and I went for bangers and mash.....very nice. Friendly couple running the joint, clean, free wi-fi, definitely worth it. Wished I ad chosen a sandwich as they are meant to be legend....but that's one for next time.Nice food, nice people

I come here at least twice a month normaly hungover lol and they make a lovely full English with pick and choose as extra there cuppa teas are good and not weak! Always a spare paper on the rack quiet atmosphere and just a good cafe which is rare in this area!

I have eaten breakfast here a number of times now, I opted for the build your own, it might not be the cheapest breakfast around but it is well worth the extra pennies.The staff are friendly & attentive & nothing is too much trouble, the cafe is scrupulously clean, not a bad word to said about the establishment.Well done

Like a few of my reviews this is a place I keep coming back to because I like it, the food is very good, the owner is fastidious about cleanliness & tidiness, plus his staff are attentive & friendly.There is a good range of menu options plus you can pick & choose from the menu with a build your own 5 or 10 items if you want something different. Bread is handcut into doorstep slices which makes for a great bacon sandwich! It's easy to make healthy choices from the menu or you can enjoy a mega breakfast if you're feeling hungry :)

Used this cafe a few times now, very clean, food always great the owners a very friendly, a nice family business feel every time we visit. Has real free WiFi no sign up needed. Have recommend to work and friends many times. If you go there you must try the home made bubble and squeak its lush.

I have been a lucky customer to this superb establishment since it opened a few years ago. You will never find it empty and there is always a good local atmosphere about the place whenever your in. The menu ranges from your standard all day breakfast through to a great selection of classic Brit dishes, all at a great price. The milkshakes are very well renowned and everything on the menu can be taken away too. With free WiFi also on the menu this is definitely the place to start the day, take a break during it, or stop by on route home. Serving Higham 7 days a week keep up the good work!!
