Had meal delivered curry average chicken tikka we both spat out sorry but the chicken tasted off would not order again

Boxing Day meal with family. We were made very welcome. Child friendly, absolutely recommended if you have children. Food was excellent, best curry has in ages. Pricing was very reasonable. Would recommend for families and couples alike.

Fantastic night, food was gorgeous, The owner made us very welcome and has a great sense of humour. Food came piping hot and everyone enjoyed it . Highly recommended will definately be going again .

I just had a Tikka Rogan Josh from The Raj and it was absolutely beautiful. The chicken was infused, tender and perfectly cooked and the naan was soft and also perfectly cooked. I don't usually do online reviews but felt moved to do so after that meal. They prove that they are, unfortunately, the exception to the rule, these days. I definitely recommend them.

Myself and husband took my dad and our son Sunday tea time, yes the restaurant is very dated and quite run down, I mean… the sofa in the entrance 🤦🏻‍♀️ But, we had a lovely curry, very tasty and the staff were really friendly and the service was fantastic, will definitely return 😊

Went on a Sunday it was quiet i.e. we were the only people in the restaurant. The restaurant is not license so I got some beers from the petrol station next door. Me and my friend ordered the Tava with tandoori roti. Cannot complain about the food. Tasty and authentic.

"Chicken pakora starter 1.5 pieces of chicken Onion bhajis looked like they had been carved from the foot of an elephant, only the front two feet though as there was only 2 bhajis in the portion. The curry was tasteless and had more oil than a Saudi sheikh. The garlic naan was up there with the worst naan bread i have had and the garlic paste on it resembled baby sick. Collection time was 20 mins after said. Staff were friendly enough. All around poor experience food wise, they need to up there game if they want to compete with alot better curry houses in golcar. Disappointed to say the least. Also 80p per poppadom? Whats that all about.

I have frequented this restaurant many times ever since it started up but will never order from them again - there standards have dropped significantly recently - I live within 30 yards of this takeaway and ordered enough for free delivery - the food had not arrived after over a hour so I phoned them and was told they were sorry but the delivery man had had a flat tyre - I told him they didn't need a car as I was straight across the road only to be told "I'm not walking across the road with it!" I admit to using expletives at his response but I expect better than this - business's should go out of there way to attract repeat customers right now but this company relies only on passing trade now it seems.

Once again, we ordered Punjabi Lamb Karahi, and Punjabi Mixed Karahi both cooked ‘Asian Style’ and enjoyed the most beautiful curries. Compliments to the Chef 👍👍

I am a regular takeaway customer from The Raj as the food is always delicious, super affordable and a wide selection available. The only downside to the takeaway service is that they are not always on time when collecting the takeaway. I have also visited The Raj restaurant for a casual meal, again delicious food & extremely affordable. However the restaurant decor is very dated. (not a problem for me personally - as long as it’s clean and the food & service is great)! :)

Great food; I always start with 2 poppadoms and the pickle tray. Main course I had a delicious Chicken Bhuna with a plain naan. Great service; Didn't have to wait long for our meal meal. Our waiter was attentive and nothing was too much trouble for him. My friend asked for coriander with his plain naan (even though it wasn't on the menu) to which the waiter said it was fine. We will definitely be visiting here again soon and will recommend to our friends.

After reading all the reviews we was really looking forward to trying a new place On arrival we had to wait a while to be actually noticed after 10 minutes the one and only waiter came over and showed us to our table After about 10 more minutes he came over to take our order ... another 10 minutes our mixed starter arrived .. not great and poorly presented ....our main dishes took ages at least 40 minutes... extremely bland food .... sorry we will not be returning

First time we have used the RAJ for a takeaway, 1 hour 55 mins for it to arrive all stone cold !!!!, after a few mins in microwave all very tasty but wouldn’t rush to use again

What a wonderful meal we had. This has to be the nicest curry I have ever tasted! I love the raj and we have been many times but I usually just have a dry tandoori chicken because I’ve gone off curry. This time I decided to have a lamb bhuna and it was delicious 😋 will be back and for the curry 👍

Went last night for date night had starters and mains both were delicious best curry restaurant in huddersfield

First thing you will notice is the very warm welcome you will get. There will be a delay in getting your chosen dishes because everything is made to order but when it arrives you will be presented with argually the best curry you have tasted. Ther nann breads are made on the premises and are memorable. Prices are very good value for money. This is a restaraunt I will be returning to for sure.

Had a lovely time here. Made very welcome. Don't have a beer licence so u need to bring your own alcohol. Soft drinks or water they will provide. We had a starter and a main meal. Which we had a Korma and a tikka masala. They were just fabulous. We had rice and nanns. Everything was warm and came fairly quickly. Staff were great asking if all ok. I would recommend this place as it was great. We will be returning soon.

I visited on Saturday. The Raj now do a deal of, pickle tray, mixed starter, main course, rice/naan/chips, ice cream or coffee, all for £12.95 per person, great value. The mixed starter comes on a sizzling skillet which is great but it burns the samosas and spring rolls, they end up black. Main course, vey tasty, fresh garlic naan. Good service, good food

Had a takeaway from Rag’s new menu.. £9 each-deal for two we had popadoms dips and salad tray, any starter of choice (we had a mixed starter for two- delish), followed by two really tasty and well portioned curries, any choice of sundry.. even the pashwari naan...Give it a try! It doesn’t disappoint!!

We went to the Raj last night, family of four and we weren't disappointed! The food was the best we've ever had at the Raj, couldn't fault a thing. The food was delicious, the staff were attentive and couldn't do enough for us! I must be honest my husband wasn't a fan before but he is now after last night's meal. The Raj has definitely upped it's game!

Literally waited just over an hour for delivery when the food came it was very expensive for what we ordered and tasteless,chappatis where dry samosas soggy and the currys were very watery we won't be ordering from there again

Love the raj, excellent food, friendly staff and value for money. Surroundings old but quaint. Would recommend this restaurant for all dining or celebrations.

I visit 1-2 times per year when I'm in the area and have never been disappointed. The food is authentic and the best Indian food I've eaten anywhere on my travels. Alcohol carry-in is fine. Staff are friendly. Meals are not rushed even though their 2 dining rooms are fairly small.

Never had a bad meal .been going years with my wife and daughters and now my 2 grandaughters ,plus freinds ect. Very friendly place, meals are just out of this world.only thing it only takes cash no cards. Apart from that can't recommend it highly enough. 10/10

Best place in Huddersfield to get a great curry at a great price. The special Raj kharai is brilliant, for starters a prawn purree can't be missed!

I asked the waiter what was on this...told everything. I specifically asked if haddock and seekh kebabs were on it and told yes. When it arrived...very slightly sizzling there were 2 very small pieces of chicken tikka, 2 chicken wings,2 very skinny chicken pakoras, 2 half pieces of onion bhaji and 2 pieces of potato?...on a bed of virtually raw onions,very disappointing. Mixed karahi consisted of 2 chewy prawns, 2 pieces of fatty lamb and 4 pieces of chicken tikka. Sauce was nice enough. Chicken madras sauce was like glue, chicken was nice. Rice mediocre. Peshwari naan was the saving grace....that was lovely and crispy on the outside one of the best i have had. When we got the bill we had been charged 3.40 for 2 popadoms!!! I did manage to get this knocked off. When we left the place had filled up and people were genuinely enjoying the food. Maybe we made poor choices but we wont be going back when there are so many good indian restaurants to choose from

We do go to The Raj on a regular basis, the food and service are always good, lamb chops would be a good addition to the menu. They have no alcohol licence so you need to take your own which isn't a bad thing, there is a petrol station nest door so you don't have far to go for more supplies.

Went with friends and family and had s fabulous night. The staff are brilliant and the owner entertained us throughout the evening. It was a lovely evening and the food was excellent too. X

Lazy Sunday, decided to visit the Bolster Moor Farm, Shop & Cafe, cracking breakfast for 5, everyone having something different- but all 5 well pleased the food.

We often buy our take aways here. The whole family enjoys the chicken korma and chicken tikka bhuna, and their chicken tikka starter is amazing. We have been regulars for about 18 years. The service is always good and the staff are so friendly, they always take time with customers.

This curry house is amazing they fit you in even if you haven't booked all the curry's are brilliant the best one for me is the chicken shazleek a mixture of chicken and keema mince wonderful the staff are great don't pester you but they are there if you need them best curry's for miles

Always welcoming I have been going here for years now cannot get enough of their food as they cook it the way it should be cooked and do not cut corners. With the ingredients or spices it is cooked to your liking and they cannot do enough to please you great experience not to be missed. Mis it mis out your culinary blunder you have been advised

We recently attended this restaurant as a party of 12 on a Saturday evening at 6.00pm. The restaurant quickly filled up and stayed busy all the time we were there. The starters are very average, but the mains are fantastic, tasty without being too hot to enjoy. The naan breads, especially the garlic ones, are out of this world and are worth going for on their own! The restaurant is next to a reasonable car park, so street parking is not necessary. The service was a bit slow and we had to wait for the food probably a bit longer than we would like, but at least that shows that the food is prepared to order! This restaurant is well worth the effort it takes to find it, and is fantastic value for money.

Lovely tikka masala amazing sizzling starter for two....plenty big enough portions. very friendly staff always receive chocolates when leaving. could do with a make over but the food sure makes up for that!!

Ve aquí todo el tiempo tanto para comer y para llevar. La comida es increíble y siempre muy sabrosa. Me gusta un bhuna pero no demasiado picante y cocinan a la perfección no insípido la comida del bebé, como si a veces con otros establecimientos cuando pides suave. Todo el personal era muy agradable y amable y un muy buen ambiente. Es una muy buena relación calidad-precio y sirvieron para pasar mucho más de 10 libras por cabeza al comer y se apunto su propia bebida. Sólo me gustaría que entregar. Vivimos en Lindley y a menudo hacen el viaje para comida para llevar, que vale la pena.

Great staff make you feel very welcome and the food is always of a good standard. It's got no drinks licence but not to worry just take your own, if you forget this there is a petrol station right next door that sells wines, beers and ciders. It's a varied menu but a few additions would be nice as it's been the same for years. Used to get cold in winter but hopefully that's now been addressed. People don't like to be cold and that would certainly put me off but as it was April when I last went, this I don't know? Be warned the food can be a bit spicy so unless you like Mega heat have a word when ordering. Once had a vindaloo and my word it was Mega hot! Nice though but it did beat me.

I regularly visit The Raj with my family. It's not the best curry house in the world, but it is good. The staff are very friendly, and the food is usually very tasty. They are always very welcoming, and take good care of small children.The prices are very good - bring your own drinks, and cash, as they don't take cards.

I recently visited the Raj for a family meal, we were booked in for 6pm, and on arrival found the place very cold, however we put a heater on nearby and it soon started to warm up. We initially ordered some poppadoms and pickle trays for the table, the poppadoms arrived promptly but we had to chase twice for the pickle trays. We ordered starters which were all very nice with no complaints on that front. Mains again arrived in a reasonable time and were ok in my opinion but nothing special. The bill arrived and very reasonable it was too, there was 9 adults and 2 children all fed for around £110. I guess all in all the Raj is reasonable you can bring your own drinks, and get reasonable food for a budget price. Will we visit again, I would say if invited there then yes.

Just simply the best Indian food in the Huddersfield area. The staff are always friendly and welcoming.

Visited the Raj last night with some friends. The food & service was excellent. Great variety of dishes to choose from at a very reasonable price. It is BYOB and conveniently there is a petrol station next door which sells a good selection of beers & wine. Will definitely return soon.

Well I'm a bit of a wimp so I'm probably not the best person to rate curry but my other halfs family are up in Scotland and when he goes back home he has to take back a curry for everyone because they reckon there is nowhere up wher they live that do a decent curry and that The Raj curries are always lovely. I went this evening with family and really enjoyed what I had, lamb Makhani, I'm a bit of a wuss and can't cope with spicy food but this was lovely and I have to say that their Garlic Naans are the best I have ever had from anywhere, they are gorgeous, We used to take my mum when she was alive and they always used to make a fuss of her, made my mums day and bless her she didn't have a big appetite so never ate it all but she loved it, we've always been treated really well and gotten to know the staff over the years, always come away feeling stuffed! Cannot leave any of my garlic naan tho, brought it home and shared it with my son.

Went for my 30th birthday and it was a great night. Booked table for 8 and was ready for when we walked in the door, taken straight in and seated. The food was lovely and the staff were even lovelier. They noticed it was my birthday and even brought me a cake out and sung happy birthday. Overall had a lovely evening thanks to the staff. The little touches have made it a night to remember. Will definitely returning in the future.

Had several takeaways from here. Very tasty, traditional food. Very good value and service has always been good. We have yet to eat in but not much points as we are very local. Quite an old fashioned restaurant but it wouldn't put me off and can BYOB. Will continue to use.

We have bought food as a take-away from the Raj for the past 4 weeks.The food has always been fantastic - really flavoursome, extra spicy and asian style as I had requested, lovely starters and accompaniments. I would recommend the Raj for both eat in meals and take away.

Ordered at 11.30 - advised delivery would be at 1pm, It is now 15.26 and still no food (and no contact from them to advise of any probs. Tried ringing and either line engaged or no reply. Have had problems in the past in getting orders correct also food has been sub standard. Given benefit of doubt when ordering this time - but will not be ordering again.

Nothing special on the outside but the food is just perfect, never had a bad curry here and the service is very personal. Take your own drinks so nothing is overpriced and the food is exceptional value. If you like good honest curry you must go here once in your life. try it and see.

Been going here for a number of years now, top curry and great service.Surroundings are not fantastic and yes its on a petrol station but having eaten curry's all over the world i keep going back to the Raj. just simple great honest food cooked authentically and to your taste if you ask, I personally cant fault the value for money this place offers.

Used to be really good. The place was filthy and it was poor food.Mess from the nights before scattered around restaurant. We was the first couples In that night so it wasn't because off diners before.

Got a takeaway from The Raj as we had heard good reviews from other people. Let me tell you now I don't know how anybody would think that that was a nice curry, it was absolutely disgusting! There was unidentifiable meat on the plate, we think maybe large chunks of fat. The plate was also drowning in oil. Definitely would not recommend to anyone!

Visited for a friends birthday. Food was lovely and the waiter couldn't do enough for us. Great choice of food and it all tasted really fresh. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff who were very pleasant. I will definitely be back soon!

We visit here once a week (usually after slimming world weigh in!) the service is a little slow but is by no means painful, the staff are lovely and the food is second to none. Our favourite Huddersfield curry house by far.

Visited the Raj with a friend from Wales who's gluten intolerant, Solo was able to advise which foods would be ok. No after effects. Great curry.

Went for a last miniute curry as very local. The service was good but ordered a chicken starter that was raw in the middle. The main, lamb Rogan Josh was bland and very watery. not very spicy how I like it. We have visited many Indian restaurants and here was our least favourite ever. Maybe ok for people with mild pallets?.won't go again.

I've visited a few times and neither the food nor the service ever lets this place down. There's a good, albeit basic range on the menu but when the food arrives it doesn't disappoint. What's more is the need to double check the bill as it's hard to believe you're getting such tasty food for such a good price.

Have been visiting this restaurant for over 10 years now, food is great, they make the best chicken masala for miles, staff are very friendly and greet you like old friends, nothing is too much trouble, atmosphere is very good, take your own booze which makes it cheaper. Will keep on returning.

Tonight we went to the raj and it was amazing. The service was top notch and the food was too. It was really busy but this didn't stop the service from being 10/10. Would recommend to anyone.

we booked at table for 4 tonight, the food was very good there were a few children's party's on but it was nice. it is about 13 years since I was there but now as we are back in the UK after living abroadit seemed a good place to have our 46 Th wedding anniversary.

This is my third time at The Raj, it's a nice Indian restaurant, reasonably priced food and good quality, get a lot for your money and the staff are very polite and helpful. Shall be returning

Visited there last Friday-yes it is the former showroom formerly part of a petrol station -but the quality of the food was excellent-we had the buffet-selection-we let the waiter select from the menu for us but it was a good idea-a skillet of mixed starters then four main courses-and coffee-£12 each-bring your own beers-and tasting very much like the curries we had in Wolverhampton 20-25 years ago!

We visited friends in Golcar this weekend, and they suggested we tried a curry from the petrol station! Not as strange as it sounds, as we found out.Its what used to be the car show rooms next to the petrol station so its easy to identify. When we went inside we were warmly welcomed and seated straight away. After a 3 1/2 hour drive in terrible traffic we were tired and hungry,faced with a large menu we went with a buffet style option. Starter, main, sides, and coffee. £11.95 each. we asked the waiter to chose the mains. We had a skillet I think, between us for starters.Wings, Barjis, Samosa, ect on a hot skillet with salad. This was after popadoms and pickles. Then 4 curry dishes, 2 Chicken and 2 Lamb. I now there was Lamb and chick peas and Chicken and spinich, not sure what the other 2 were. 2 rice garlic nan and chappatis. After a large starter, we thought this was a lot of food! We shared all the dishes, and they were all very very good. And there was not a tiny bit left!.After that we had coffee and tea. The staff were very helpful and came round and checked if we needed any thing else, more food more coffee or tea but they were not pushy. We left well fed and very satisfied. You can also take your own drinks or buy them there. We will go again without fail. They also do take aways!

We have been to the Raj on many occasions. The latest for my Daughters Birthday. It use to be one of my favorites. Sadly it was only just OK. Think they must have changed the Chef. I was really looking forward to it as well. It will be a while before we go again.

We are regular customers at the Raj, and have NEVER had a bad meal. But last nights meal was exceptionally good!!

Went to the raj last night with the family for my birthday.. It was my first visit however my family goes regularly as it is practically on the doorstep... First impressions was the restaurant area looked very clean . When we ordered I had the garlic mushrooms to start which were lovely however my mums husband started with the haddock.. I am not normally a fish fan however that looked lovely really white fresh fish and it tasted Devine... The curries were amazing with just the right amount of spice to them... The staff were very friendly and gave me a box of chocolates as I was leaving for my birthday....all in all a very pleasant dining experience would highly recommend

The Raj is actually our local restaurant, so we go very often, but we went for a change to usual Christmas traditional lunch on Christmas Day. Nothing was too much for the staff, we could all choose our starters and mains, and sweets were on a serve yourself basis. We went with the family and friends, and everyone, including the children really enjoyed it. Excelent value at £22, cheaper for the children and added bonus of taking our own drinks and chapagne.

The food was tasty, staff very friendly and excellent value for money. You can take your own alcohol and for starter and main for two it only costs about 25 pound. It's a great night out and relaxed atmosphere.

As is the norm over the past number of years, we headed to the Raj. The place was packed but we didn't have to wait long for our table. Whilst ordering, the owner asked if I would like to try a curry that wasn't on the menu. He remembered that this is what I did the previous year. We ordered the usual starters curries and sundries and everything was excellent. My 'special' curry was outstanding. The overall cost was £25-00 per couple which was outstanding value. (you bring your own alcoholic drinks). I understand that everyone has their own favourite curry house but The Raj really is a restaurant serving good food, providing excellent service at very reasonable prices

Don't be put off by this restaurant being attached to a service station. The whole experience is quirky, friendly, and swift. If you want alcohol to drink, you pop next door to the garage for it! Haaaa. Excellent. The place is clean, the staff are friendly, the portions are good, and the curry is exceptionally good. If there is something special you want, the guys there will do it for you if they can. I've been there a few times now and it's fast becoming one of my favourite places.

Went to the Raj on a cold wet Tuesday night, it wasnt busy so the service was especially quick and efficient. Seekh Kebabs for starter cooked to perfection along with a tender lamb jalfrezi they added chick peas and spinach at my request, fantastic taste, top curry and great service.I am surprised that this place is not rammed full every night of the week.I would advise booking on a Friday and Saturday as we have missed out before by not booking in advance.Good Curry, lots of choice, Very Good Price, Great Service what more do you want this is not a fancy place just great value for money, take your own alcoholic drink as they dont have a license !

The raj is not one of the fancy Indian restaurants it is tidy without being posh , The table cloth may have been stained but the food was very good kebabs and baghees good curries and the nan bread was perfect ,very reasonable prices, a great place for a cheap night out as you take your own drinks. will definitely be returning.. Nearly forgot to say, the service was excellent.

Havnt been here for years and just decided at the last minute to go . What friendly nice staff who took the time to chat and were very polite . As its take your own alchol they were there with glasses and bottle opener etc . nothing too much . had pickle tray poppadoms 2 sizzling starters, special keema karahi , lamb shaslik , keema rice and chappati for £25 . Wish id taken my phone to take pictures . Will be returning .

As a family we've eaten at the Raj since it opened and at Solos before that, Solo and Gaf are both great hosts, but the thing we go for is the food! I live away from the area most of the year, but the food I always eat on my return is from the Raj, i have it served Asain style and I'm never disappointed. My favourite is Fish Khari, closely followed by Lamb Sag . The interior decorations have just been completed and look good, but my advice is if you want a great curry tell them how you like it and you will become a convert like me

Ive never had a bad curry at the Raj, when we do visit we always enjoy the curries immensely. I've tried several different mild ones as I prefer them and have to say the Lamb Passanda is the tastiest mild curry I have ever had. I've tried them from other curry houses and they don't come close! They also do them to take away which is a massive bonus for me, although occasionally on the take aways they miss something out which is annoying! Can't fault the food here or the service.

Been to the Raj a couple of times, such a shame there is a petrol station right next to it, always put me off slightly knowing that i'd come out to the smell of petrol fumes.The curries here are top quality, on both occasions we have visited it has been fairly quiet and the service has been excellent. The waiter always has a smile and is very knowledgeable and helpful with my 'weak' tounge when it comes to curries.Wasn't aware the first time that you had to bring your own alcohol but with the petrol station next to it selling some we were allowed to nip out and purchase someOnly problem is they dont accept card but will not stop me coming again in the future

Dined at the Raj tonight with my best friends Diane and Robert and good friend Jenny, our food is always cooked just how we like it. Portions are just right including a lovely pickle tray. The thing I love most about this venue is that the staff and the food is always at its best and I would always recommend it to all my friends and family. Tonight Raj you have done us all proud again. I've been going to the Raj for about seven years now. I go once a week with family. Now it's not the Ritz, but I go to the Raj for a good curry and that is what I get! The food is good, nothing is too much trouble, if you fancy something different, just ask and the staff will do everything they can to assist. The place isn't licenced so you can bring your own beer/wine. The garage next door is always open if you forget to bring some. This place got some bad publicity a number of yeas ago, but the regular customers stood by the place and it now proudly displays its 5 star hygene rating.Give it a go, its down to earth value for money!

The Raj serves the best Jalfrezi I have ever had, make sure you ask for it 'Asian style' to get the full experience! The staff are very friendly, chatty and the service is excellent. Ok the surroundings are not those of an overpriced curry house in Leeds or Bradford but you should see past that. Bring your own beer or pop next door to the garage, if you're not drinking alcohol the soft drinks are very cheap. The menu isn't extensive but you can always ask them to tweak dishes and I even asked for a pathia which wasn't on the menu but they happily made. You can easily eat for less than a tenner each and have change from that!We moved away from the area a while ago but still travel back to eat here.A great little curry house.

Having been to the Raj on a number of occassions mainly family do's and never had a bad experiance.This last time was a friends retirement do and therefore was a large party, the servicer was good and prompt and meals was served piping hot an all at once per table and on our table was 12 people.Was also was good there was no service charge added so the staff got a nice tip.Meal was good and curries was tasty this is a nice place nothing special decor wise.They dont do alcoholic drinks so if you go take your own.

Nothing wrong with this place but nothing special either, take your own drinks and get a good feed for a tenner or so. Pleasant staff and nicely laid out tables, lighting a bit gloomy though, my wife couldn't see to read the menu! Worth a visit if you're in the area but don't go specially.
