Went to The Rainbows End today for Sunday Roast only to see that they only had pork on the menu, no beef or chicken! We had table booked for 12.30, two of us didn't like pork so ordered Fish/Chips only to be told that they had sold out...how can they be sold out at 12.30??? Waited a long time for the food to come out & waited even longer for the puddings to come out!!! Place needs a clean there was cobwebs on the wall where I was sitting. Don't go there, was not impressed & will not be going there again!!!

The food was quite nice but was really put off by the fact that the whole place needs a good clean! Would have liked to sit outside but the tables were grubby so sat inside the conservatory. The floor had not been cleaned/swept & there was muck under the radiator! The material covering the roof had flies in it! The ladies toilet had a banana skin in it & no soap to wash hands.. On leaving, noticed some tables had not been cleaned either.. A shame as the place is in an ideal spot with lovely views…

The staff were friendly and helpful, but the food was really bad. A seafood platter where everything on the plate was at the point where is should have been chucked away. The chef even came out to ask us if we enjoyed the food, we were so embarrassed we politely said yes. I ordered a bacon burger which came with bacon barely cooked, you would expect it to be crispy. Really sorry to have to do a review like this as this place has so much potential if the food was better.

Excellent selection of sandwiches, toasties and ploughman’s at very reasonable prices in addition to some more substantial meals and specials. Hand cut bread was really good and the side salad with the sandwich was just lovely. Fantastic coffee too. Not the smartest interior but the food, service and views absolutely make up for it. Highly recommend for a lunch stop. Looking forward to sitting outside on our next visit.

Went for Sunday lunch. Had to send one plate back as it was stone cold. I then found a hair in my food which was replaced with no apology. Food was terrible, tasteless and cold. When we complained we were told “our food is not to your taste so we would ask you not to return”. I think it’s safe to say we wouldn’t be anyway after that experience. Never, ever go here. Honestly the worst meal and dining experience I’ve ever had.

We came across this venue by chance it is close to the main A36 but far away enough to be free of traffic noise, on the lake with countryside views the setting is both convenient and relaxing with olde-world charm. There is both inside and outside seating. The menu is extensive and the bar is well stocked at reasonable prices. On the day of our visit there was a two coach trip booked in for pre booked meals so the place was rocking. The efficient staff handled everything with ease. Clearly a very professional set up, do yourself a favour and visit if you are passing by.

So we travel with plymouth argyle up the country, we go with a supporters group called the senior greens, we go up to watch the football with our mate have a nice time go home, we normally stop in western, but as we was playing southampton we needed somewhere else, we stopped at a lovely little pub called the rainbow on the lake, we had pre phoned them and they sorted out a bacon roll for 2 full coaches, i believe 108 fans, we stopped outside the drivers turned the coaches around, the staff that we met were fantastic, the chef doing the bacon rolls was brilliant, we spent around 1hr there, before moving on, it was lovely of them to let us come as some football fans gives other a bad name,

I don’t usually write reviews, but the welcome we received at this family-run pub was just so warm that it felt appropriate. More like visiting friends than going out for a meal. The food was of exceptional quality, cooked fresh on the premises. The portions were generous. The pub itself is in a really atmospheric location. All in all, it’s really worth a detour to visit the Rainbow on the Lake.

Went with my daughter for Sunday lunch. Truly awful. We had the mixed meat roast. Beef was as hard and thought as leather. Pork was tasteless. Chicken was dry. Gravy was like dishwater and the potatoes and parsnips were rock hard and overcooked. The pub itself is shoddy to say the least. Cobwebs and dust hang from aging decorations. Won’t be going again. Steer clear.

What an amazing find, we were on our way back to Bristol from Brighton and needed a break when we saw the sign for The Rainbow on the Lake, it sounded lovely and it was. We ended up staying for lunch and it was delicious, great value for money, very filling, we didn’t eat again for the rest of the day. This is an idyllic, quirky little pub with great views, great food and a wonderfully welcoming host. We were stuck in the traffic jam on the A303 coming back from Glastonbury, and decided to turn off and find somewhere to eat .. after two abortive stops, we called the Rainbow and he checked how many of us there were and said he could accomodate us. Which ended up being extremely kind of him, since they were short-staffed that day. It is very much a family run place, but that's much of its charm - we couldn't think of a nicer spot to just relax and get away from the traffic - surrounded by flowers, shrubs and a gorgeous lawn being mowed by the cutest little robot mower that fascinated the few dogs that arrived. The food was great, the host couldn't have been more helpful - we geniunely will make a point to stop here again when we're travelling down to Somerset or Devon, or on the way back. Gorgeous, friendly place :)

We stopped in for a bite to eat, The food was good and tasted great along with the pint of Thachers, The pub staff are great but its looks tired and run down and also lots of dead flys in the conservatry roof covers which can be seen when you sit and eat your meal, Plus lots of cobwebs throughout the pub, but as there was nowhere else around to eat this was our only option, plus the prices on the website/ online were way diffent to the prices you pay which were higher so they could do with uploading the new prices.

We visited on the 23rd April (St Georges Day) for lunch with my brother and his wife, he had suggested the venue as he lives down the road and had made numerous visits. You have to turn off the A36 heading towards Salisbury and it it tucked away next to the remnants of the old road. We took up a position in the garden while we waited for the venue to open and bang on 12pm we were warmly greeted and offered any seat we like, so my brother chose the conservatory which afforded lovely views of the white bird lake.We had drink orders taken (No Coke Zero or Pepsi Max!!) and then we placed out orders. As per usual dear reader, I went with Scampi and chips, I was a little surprised not to see a steak based meal, be it beef or gammon. The meals were presented after about 15-20 minutes, all having been freshly prepared, the peas came in a separate dish covered in butter and mint which was delicious. The chips were home prepared, skins on and well cooked, the scampi was slightly over-cooked to the point a number of them had hard crusty and split exteriors, but a soaking in vinegar sorted that out. I'm not 100% convinced they were wholetail as they all possessed the exact same cylindrical shape.Overall it was a good meal out, and when visiting my brother again I'd be inclined to visit again.

Myself and my wife were travelling to the New Forest and were looking for a place to stop for a quick bite to eat. We saw the signs for this and decided to give it a go. Don't be fooled by the overgrown greenery in the car park and the slightly tired looking pub as the food we had was top notch and the staff very friendly. As we were eating later we didn't go for the roast, which did look lovely, but opted for a couple of toasted cheese sour dough sandwiches. I choose brie and caramelised onion and my wife had the same with roasted veg. I must say that mine was a definite 10 out of 10, so tasty, well presented with a lovely salad of mixed leaves, tomatoes, peppers, grapes, strawberries, blueberries and pomegranate seeds. We had a portion of chips to share which again were superb, I think they were double or triple fried with their skins on and lots of crispy bits. Washed down with a pint of Estrella we left feeling very well feed and impressed. Can highly recommend.

We had lunch at the Rainbow today and it was perfect. I had whitebait starter and my husband had prawn cocktail. Really good size portions, beautifully presented, so fresh with colourful and tasty salad. For mains I had a stilton Ploughmans, what can I say it was so well put together. There are lots of options for the type of ploughmans you can have. I was tempted by the brie and the smoked salmon with cream cheese and chives. Big chunck of cheese, wellmade bread, 2 big pieces, and again a salad made with imagination and flair, sweet little jars of pickle and relish, YUMMY. My husband had the homemade stilton burger. " that was the best burger I have ever eaten" his words. The chips. rustic , homemade, deserve a mention too. He also loved the side salad. Friendly, helpful and attentive staff. We visited in August 2020, with our 5 year old and our dog. We were extremely nervous due to everything going on in the world and it was our first drink and meal out since lockdown started in March. I very was pleased to see hand sanitiser and the check in facility upon arrival and we chose our table in the garden. These things put my mind at ease. There was a limited but varied menu running and our meals were served in cardboard takeaway boxes which perfectly served the purpose for us. Our dog was made very welcome. Our drinks and food were served via table service so we didn’t need to do anything or go anywhere. What a perfect evening we had with you. We found this most off putting and seriously affected our enjoyment of the occasion. When asked what was going on the waitress explained "it was a precaution against Covid19" - but she wasn't wearing gloves when handing out the boxes, which seemed a little strange. However everything else was poor. In my party of three we all had the roast beef. After the meal we all agreed that the beef was tough. My view of the roast beef was it was over cooked, extremely tough to cut and then required excessive chewing. I gave up and did not eat it all. The two roast potatoes were not crisp, at all. The yorkshire pudding was soggy and tough. The cauliflower was cooked well, the carrots nearly so and the other vegetables were all over cooked. We stopped at one course and left. The view from the windows is beautiful.

Good food, good value I had the ploughman’s and it was great and the onion rings were crisp and delicious just sad I had to leave a couple as so full, staff very helpful and friendly a bit like other reviews and the reason for not giving 5 stars is definitely the decor and the fact the pub really needs a bit of TLC a shame really as could be easily rectified.

We came here as it was close to Stonehenge (about 15 minutes). The staff was inviting and friendly. I had the black and blue burger which was fantastic. The meat was cooked to perfection and generously topped with condiments. The sides were really generous. It included a salad, homemade coleslaw, fries and onion rings. They had local craft beer on tap which were great choices. The best thing was, is that the menu was seasonal so expect a different variation of the menu for each month. I’d recommend for anyone near Stonehenge for a homemade and affordable option!

On our way home to Southampton from Croyde, North Devon, We had stopped last year and decided to stop again this year for dinner. Quiet pub on a Monday evening.. Nice friendly staff, great food. I had the Bacon and Mushroom Carbonara with Garlic Bread, my wife had the Chicken Breast in a Pepper Sauce. Plenty of fresh vegetables and also not stingy on the sauce. You could easily miss the sign to this pub, even though it is just off the main road. Well worth a visit.

We were on our way home from the Isle of Wight and my husband suggested stopping for food at the 'Pelican' nearby where he had been previously with his golfing friends.

We thought we'd give this place a try as it had many good reviews. Unfortunately it is rather run down, the outside decking area requires complete refurbishment although there are a few new outside tables on the lawn area which are new. Inside it could also do with a complete makeover. Menu's are presented on a very well used piece of A4 paper. The food while being ok at best was nothing special and bore no resemblance to the nice pictures we've seen on this website. The prices are reasonable and the staff were very nice. If you are lucky you might just get a glimpse of the small lake between the trees from the outside decking area.

My boyfriend and I stopped off here enroute home from a long weekend in the Cotswolds, we followed the brown sign off of the main road and found this lovely pub/restaurant with a decked area overlooking lakes and hills. Service was friendly and quick, I chose the steak and kidney pie but it was a suet pudding but was excellent, my boyfriend chose the mackerel, again excellent. We would definitely use this venue again on returning through Salisbury.

Popped into this hidden gem on a beautiful summers day, and was not disappointed. At on a balcony with amazing views and an ice cold coffee. Chatted to the landlady who could not be more accommodating. Will definetly come again.

Having spent the day at Longleat, we decided to fall into a pub as we were passing through, on the way home to Whiteley. We happened to see the pub sign from the main road and swung in for some dinner to save cooking when we got back. Lovely friendly landlord and staff, nice views and comfortable pub to be in. Really friendly feel. The food was lovely. Had a black and blue burger, a very generous portion size, with possibly the best home made onion rings I have ever tasted!

Well what a hidden gem this place is. Bird sanctuary down the road excellent views across the valley from the pub. People in the pub were friendly. The bar staff are excellent and couldn't of been any nicer or more professional. Good selection of beers and largers. My wife had a latte which she rated as excellent.. a bonus was the chocolate truffle that came with it . She had sea bass fillet which had a wonderful crayfish risotto salad and i had cod and chips. Food was excellent ! .

My husband and I visited The Rainbow on the Lake yesterday (Sunday) tea time, with our little dog (who was warmly welcomed), after a trip visiting Warminster. We decided to eat and had the most delicious meal! We shared smoked haddock croquette starter and had 2 large croquettes with salad & mayonaise - all light, fluffy & delicious. For our main, I had the mushroom spaghetti & garlic bread, and my husband had the roast belly pork stuffed with black pudding and served with an array of perfectly cooked seasonal vegetables. Both portions were extremely tasty, and generous. It's rare that you go somewhere where the food is seasoned properly, the food at The Rainsbow IS seasoned properly - absolutely delicious! The staff are very welcoming and attentive and ensured we had everything we needed. Lovely atmosphere, lovely people and lovely food - looking forward to going back again!

Suitable location to meet friends for lunch and the reviews were good. However, we were very disappointed on arrival and entering - the building exterior and interior look like they haven't been decorated since about 1985. The view from the balcony over the lake is beautiful, but the building has been allowed to become very outdated and desperately needs a lot of capital spent on it to bring it up to modern standards. However, service was friendly. Food was good enough - 2 of us had burgers which were proper homemade and not overcooked, although the side-salads were disappointing, and one had Smoked haddock croquettes which she said were good. The chips were almost black and looked as though they had been cooked in very old oil. Prices are similar to modern gastro-pubs but I thought was over the top for the type of establishment. Would I return? No.

So, on our way home from our holiday my partner and I called in for Sunday lunch. We both ordered roast lamb. When our meals were brought to us, there was some grey coloured, indistinguishable meat on the plate, plus some pale tasteless gravy, anaemic potatoes, an undercooked pig in blanket and a soggy Yorkshire pudding. When I tasted the meat, I couldn’t actually tell what it was supposed to be. My partner was of the same opinion. We complained, and someone came out of the kitchen and basically argued with us about our meal, saying she’d never had a single complaint, which I find hard to believe. She reluctantly changed our meat but then charged us extra for doing so!!! It was without a shadow of a doubt, the worst Sunday lunch I’ve ever eaten and won’t be returning.

The pub is really well decorated, great big fish tank, cute decorations, suberb and very polite staff but unfortunately the food really let it down. A steak was very thin and had no flavour and I dont believe it was 10 ounces as stated on menu. The burgers were very big but the beef was very crumbly and tasted funny. Wouldnt return.
