I can't give a rating for the food, service or atmosphere, as the only time I tried to get food there, they said they had a large party of 12,so weren't doing food, this was about 7 pm, so we turned round and walked out, and we'll never step foot in there again

Just came for spontaneous family dinner (8 adults, 3 kids) and was pleasantly surprised. Portions were huge and food was delicious. Would definitely recommend

Had a family meal for my dad’s 70th here. There were 20 of us and they accommodated us perfectly. We had Sunday lunches, lasagne and burgers between us, all of which were huge portions and just delicious. Very reasonably priced for the portions. The waiting on staff were brilliant, polite and couldn’t do enough for us. Especially the young lad, unfortunately didn’t get his name. All 20 of us had the best afternoon here, absolutely no complaints anywhere. The place to go if you want value for your money, delicious food, in a lovely friendly pub.

What can a say an absolutely fantastic place to relax with the family and dogs and the food is outstanding. The tarragon chicken is a must try. Plate loaded belly full very very happy

We walked in to the pub to be greeted by a party of 15 people, me and my girlfriend were pushed in the back by a couple of diners for being in the way of the surprise party, when no one had told us about this over the phone or upon entry, we were then thrown in the corner of the pub to be left waiting 30 mins for menus, we then waited for drinks orders to which 2 coffees arrived 10 mins before the other cold drinks. Upon our food order being taken we weren’t asked of any allergy’s and we ordered steak and ale pie and the stack burger. We had asked for mash instead of chips and the waiter seemed to take a long time to put this through on the iPad ( he then told us he wasn’t trained on it and had no idea what he was doing) no food read back was given after order. The food then arrived- huge pie which was lovely and a nicely presented burger, however we received mushy peas when the menu stated peas and my girlfriends is allergic to these ! I’m guessing the waiter had put through mushy peas rather than mash (somehow) I then asked for this to amended to which I received a shrug of the shoulders. The pie also arrived with no gravy (no gravy on pie!) I asked for gravy and other condiments which then took 10 mins to arrive at which point we had basically finished our meals, chips were cold and soggy and coleslaw had clearly been left under light for a long time. As we left we spotted a couple of kitchen staff drinking GLASS j20 bottles in the kitchen, very dangerous. Overall disappointing and we seemed to be neglected in the corner of the pub.

Had a wonderful evening tonight the food was great and good portion sizes too. The service was great and so friendly and the xmas decor was very pretty. Will definately return. The lamb shank with mash and mint gravy..wow..

The posted reviews about the Railway Inn provide a completely different picture to our experience on a mid week lunch. If an eating establishment advertises an opening time of 12 noon then everything from a bowl of soup up to a veritable feast should be available at that time. Upon our arrival we were 'ushered' to a table and left, without a word, to our own devices. The "usher" was a person we assume to be the manager. However, a stained teashirt and jogging trousers did not present an image of professionalism and, for someone in the food industry, it just wasn't acceptable. Please believe that I am not a serial complainer. Reviews such as this need to be upfront and honest not insincere flattery. For some time we sat, ignored, watching the staff preparing to commence service, notwithstanding that the premises were already open. Eventually menus were provided but, our request for pre-prandial drinks was given to a retreating back, such was the haste of the staff member. The best part of our visit was the food which was well presented, plentiful and delicious. Perhaps the Chef should take over front of house responsibilities. Norman A Dean

Very poor meal today, stone cold vegetables, beef gravy served with lamb! Lots of choices missing from the menu. Nice atmosphere but sadly let down by poor food. Sorry will not be returning here anytime soon.

Went for Sunday lunch, staff very attentive, helpful and accommodating. Clean, well decorated surroundings. Varied menu, great portion sizes, even the smaller portions requested by 2 of our party. Fantastic value for money. Would definitely recommend.

I found price of the food very expensive, the Christmas decks were lovely.

Fantastic family pub, fabulous chef!!!

First time in the railway and was a nicely presented pub, staff are friendly. Lovely seating area outside for the hot day. Drinks were spot on. However the food wasn't up to par. I had a Mixed grill, all the trimmings and a peppercorn sauce. Now the food was seasoned perfectly, but some of it was over cooked and the rest was mediocre. Steak was supposed to be medium rare instead was well done, chicken was dry, and the egg over cooked. Homemade chips were amazing. My partner enjoyed her food but said the coleslaw was just dry veg. Needed more mayonnaise. We will be back as it wasn't terrible and is very well priced for the food you do get. Everywhere deserves a second chance.

Met some friends, not been here for a while but was pleasantly surprised, staff were great, service was good and food was lovely, I am coeliac so need a gluten free diet,lots of options on the main menu, not sure about desserts as I didn't have one but had a quick glance at menu which didn't appear to have any GF options but I'm sure if I'd have asked there would be something available. The pub itself was very quiet. Had a great night, will definitely be returning. Just to note they had a great breakfast menu, also with GF options.

We come from the Midlands visiting relatives, The Railway has become our place to eat out .. really friendly staff, nice relaxed atmosphere and the food is top notch

Literally popped in for a comfort break and had a quick drink , very adroit professional bar staff, great ambience for dining , outdoors area 8s great , Deffo recommend it

We took our 2 year old grandson for lunch. The atmosphere was good and the staff were excellent. The menu was similar to most pubs. We both had the steak and kidney pudding chips and mushy peas, our grandson the chicken nuggets chips and beans, from the child's menu. Everything tasted great, was cooked very well and great value for the price. We will definitely go back.

Went for lunch with my husband after finishing what had been a hard week at work. Looking to move to conglton so thought we would check out some of the local pubs. Seemed a lovely little pub, there was a few people in. We ordered a drink at the bar found a table sat down and ordered food. I ordered the tarragon chicken when my food arrived the cauliflower on my plate was all brown and rotten the veg was over cooked and the chicken had water all coming out of it when I cut through it. The chef had come out of the kitchen and asked if everything was ok with our meals . I said sorry no the veg on my plate is brown and rotten .His reply was that is how it is cut which I thought was a odd answer. Didn't offer to change our food all apologise. Neither to say we will not be returning . Very disappointed.

Was surprising good .I d heard mixed reports of here .the food was good .the staff were friendly ,the place was clean and cosy .could not fault the service .the only annoying thing was ..,when the meals were ready ,there was an awful loud noise to alert the bar people that meals were ready .

Service was very good, but food was average . Steak and kidney pud chewy and not much meat, and mine had a few slices of wafer thin ham with the ham egg and chips meal. A nice piece of proper ham would have been nice.

Went to The Railway Inn to celebrate a relatives birthday. There were 11 of us. Two of the party ordered rump steaks, one cooked medium and the other rare. Another of the party ordered a sirloin cooked medium. What we received was two rumps cooked medium and a rare sirloin! We sent back one of the medium rumps and asked for a replacement cooked rare as originally requested. By this time everyone had received their food and started eating. The chef then came out of the kitchen with a small piece of cut up steak on a plate and asked "is this steak rare?" The lighting was low and I replied "yes it looks it" and he mocked "well, this is the steak you just sent back" We took the plate and put it under the light and it was clearly medium, not rare and the whole table said "that is not rare!" We were all shocked that the chef had the arrogance to confront a customer in front of the whole party and other dining patrons because he had been challenged on how he had cooked a steak. We asked to speak to the manager about his unprofessional behaviour and were told he was the manager!! We did get a rare rump in the end, but needless to say we will not be returning as it spoilt the evening and his behaviour left me humiliated just because I did not get what I ordered. One star is for the staff who served us who were professional and apologetic.

Got there 6.50 2 'big' tables not serving any more food. Not getting my custom. Not sure but could be because I'm not a regular.

Called Saturday after train ride, people and staff very friendly, had a few drinks but not here long enough to have food but will be coming back.

We came were today with my family having just moved to Congleton and my god it was amazing! The portions are HUGE the starters are like main meals. The staff and the atmosphere was amazing can’t wait to return x

First time visit spare of the moment Sunday evening 6pm visit 2nd October 2022. Venue quite quiet got a table without the need to pre- book. Good variety menu, steak and ale pie chips and mushy peas good portion home cooked hot a big thumbs up here. Apple pie and custard excellent. Defo would try again a nice find 👍

Online menu was different than in the pub and few things were not available to order so had the steak ale pudding instead of a pie. It was very disappointing as that was chewy and wasn't much meat. Was happy to pay for familys meal as their's was OK but I refused to pay for mine that they did honner a refund.

Great local pub, cask ales. Good menu, be warned, the steak, ale & mushroom pie to die for.

Food OK staff friendly meals on time

Went in on a Saturday at 7.30pm to eat, menus were tired, creased and not giving a good impression they were looked after in these current times, sat down with our drinks waiting for someone to take our food order, as we were told. Two mins after we sat down the turned up the volume on the music so loud we couldn't have a conversation without raising our voices, after 30 mins of no service, we left.

Really nice pub. Food was absolutely delicious. Super friendly staff. Recommended.

Everything was excellent apart from the steak. I asked for medium and it came very rare and not rested so juices all over my plate. Sent it back. The chef re cooked it but came back well done. It wasn't very nice. In saying that, everyone else meal was fantastic.

Little disappointed as good reviews, rump steak was what we would call a minute steak, dry and not medium rare. Peppercorn sauce was consistency of soup (very runny) and tasted like mushroom. Ordered one meal no salad and it came with salad. Chips just a little limp and tasted like cooked hours before and reheated. Only 1 onion ring each. We did say not happy, but we paid in full as we did eat (we were hungry) no complaints about waitresses and service though

Really nice food. We won a free feed on FB and took it last night. Thought it might be a "here you are - please eat and leave" but we were made very welcome. Chef {boss ?) came out to check on us twice and waiter/barman was very attentive. And ver dog friendly place. We will be back

Noticed the smart decor on entry, attentive table service, nice beer, classic food, big portions, music brilliant, just a decent place to indulge for an hour or two. Will definitely be back for a 3rd visit in the not so near future.

Spirits are ridiculously priced, specifically Gin at £9.20 for a double Gordons and Tonic. I have honestly drank in London cheaper. The place could be brilliant, with a few tweaks. Food is great and well priced.

Started quite bad as I found a baggie of Class A Cocaine under the table which set the tone as we didn’t get any apologies for the disgusting situation. Waiting service was quite poor, felt as if we had grab the waiters attention every time and never bothered to ask us for anything. Food was average and priced reasonably in fairness. Didn’t have much flavour at all. Went through the whole menu and didn’t have any puddings which we weren’t told, had to quite literally go through the whole menu of puddings for them to not have any. Wouldn’t return, wouldn’t recommend.

No track and trace and took 10 minutes to get my drink. I had to catch a train so ended up leaving without my drink. It seemed like because I wasn't a local was being ignored

Delicious, would visit again. The food was wonderful I had the vegetarian toad in the hole this was amazing. The staff were really busy but didn't let this affect the level of customer service they were providing

We had one young lad working on his own as waiter. He did a brill job as the pub got busier as did the barmaid who was behind the bar but also helped the waiter so sorry didn't get there names but were very professional. Xx

The ambiance of the place when you walk in the door, the smiling staff and the great food, oh and if you want to catch a game on the telly this is the place to come.
