Lovely as always. Only criticism was that it was a bit cold as we were sat near the door.

This place used to be the best place around for peppercorn sauce , now it’s the worst peppercorn sauce , i’ve added some photos of the change in the sauce …the dark brown sauce u see in pics is the new peppercorn sauce …it’s basically like tasteless watered down gravy …the old peppercorn sauce in the pic the more light brown was perfect thickness and taste please change it back ….i never get asked while eating my meal “is everything ok with your food” …there’s always around 4-5 girls here standing round twiddling their thumbs talking instead.

So glad that we chose The Railway Inn as the place to go for a meal before the Panto today! There were 19 of us in total. We’d pre-ordered and asked for the food to be served ASAP after our arrival. Not only did happen but the food was delicious. Everyone has already asked that we re-book for next year! Thank you so much and Merry Christmas!

My wife and I and our two friends go out every week for food,we have been to the Railway before,so we knew we would get a good meal when we went Friday,but didn't realise they had a Christmas dinner menu,it was excellent,the four of us really enjoyed it.

Very understaffed. Food Very expensive not fresh food.cheaper to go to Cardiff .

+ves:- Good Sunday lunch of belly pork cooked to perfection. Attentive service from the young lady who answered my many questions. Quick service and no pressure. -ves:- Yorkshire pudding not homemade and the music a little too loud for me. Will definitely visit again and try a different menu. 🙂

What a lunch... never again. 7 pounds for a ladle of soup and the smallest piece of bread. The 8 pound pate was disgusting and served with what looked like Branston. The mains even worse. WateryFrozen veg with a boiled chicken breast sat on the top. Stuffed with soggy leeks and mushrooms. The chef must have thought it looked as bad as me so he poured a pint of packet cheese sauce over it all, it was so bad i left it. My wifes pork was so fatty and chewy we both couldnt believe they had the cheek to charge 17 pounds each for the plates. When they ask you was everything ok with the meal. You are not allowed to say no, as they will reply to you all of the ingredients on your plate should have tasted great. I fail to see how telling me it shouldn't have tasked like watery gunk helps. Then the worst case of slamming the bill through the machine to rob me of over 50 quid I've ever seen. With the fake "have a nice day" Do not put Chefs dishes on the menu. When we would have been better off with deep fried chips and a cheap steak. The woman with dark hair was very rude.

First time here. The mushrooms with Stilton and pepper sauce to start. Pepper completely over powered everything, however, the neck of lamb on minted mashed potatoes with roasted root veg was absolutely stunning 🤩 definitely will be eating here regularly

The food and value for food were great. Service was commended. However, the appearance of a piece of plastic in the meal was a bit worrying, especially had it appeared in a child's meal. I did bring it to the attention of ghr serving staff. Otherwise, everything was OK

Picked the special....herby breaded cod. Crushed potatoes with spring onions and green beans with a roasted pepper sauce. Absolutely delicious 😋. Tge staff are lovely and very friendly. Used tge ladies loo, spotlessly clean

Really dissapointed in the overall experience I'm sorry to say. Three of us met for a meeting over food, we were shown to a table in the bar area where we wouldn't need to rush. Within 10 mins we were told that other people will be needing the table after us. Two of us ordered fish and chips and one the salmon. The salmon was excellent but the fish was poor with the batter soft and both the fish and chips only warm not hot. Every two minutes we were rudely asked if we needed more drinks as we were only having soft drinks. Made to feel uncomfortable.

The mother wanted to take her favourite child out for lunch, something we've never done, and she recommended this gem. Happily made the trip up from Pembs., picked her up and travelled the 10 minutes over. Even on a school day, there were quite a few people already eating with a large group of about 16 chatting and slurping away. I enjoyed the 16oz gammon with a blue cheese sauce (delish) and strawberry sundae for pudding while the old girl had steak and ale pie (you can really taste the ale) and sticky toffee pudding. Customer service was fantastic from the moment we stepped in until we left, from both the chap who I assumed was the manager to the lady running around everywhere. Food was fantastic, service impeccable and venue warm and comforting. Will definitely return in the future, maybe bring the Mrs.

A gem of a place, had a gorgeous midweek lunch with the mother. Gammon and blue cheese sauce was fantastic. Brilliant service throught the visit with a fair size carpark. 4 stars for food as I could've done with a few more chips 😁

Well that was a nice surprise ☺️🤤 really scrumptious food. Succulent, juicy authentic Jamaican dish where the rice and peas was the star of the show. Service was excellent and responsive. It was good to see real people who make a real effort outside of it being they job, well done guys, we felt served today.The Railway Inn is Nelson’s best kept secret. We will return…thats a promise!

Never visited before but what a lovely find! Clean, cosy and a lovely relaxing atmosphere. Staff were polite and attentive! Food was absolutely delicious, well presented and hot, and arrived in a timely manner! Will definitely return!

Went for Sunday lunch today, 8 Sep. 51 wedding anniversary & wife's Today. Beef and a turkey dinner. Fresh veg and Yorkshire pudding. The gravy is outstanding. Atmosphere is happy. Haven't been there for a while but will certainly return soon. The beer (Rhymney Export), is excellent.

Lovely pub/restaurant with quality food and good prices. Excellent understanding of coeliac disease and need for gluten free too.

I had food. It was tasty and staff were friendly. I think it's really is overpriced for what it is. I had one of the cheapest on the menu as the other food was even more ridiculous overpriced. We are a small village. They need to keep it real. I wouldn't be returning.

I used to struggle to find a place the family liked for food, after visiting the Railway, I found it to be perfect. Wonderful outside seating area and the choice on the menu is fantastic. We love the Sunday dinners there and would also like to mention Hannah Phillips especially as she always goes out her way for us and nothing is too much! Highly recommend visiting if you haven’t been before, the food and atmosphere is amazing

My wife enjoyed the steak more than at Miller and Carter on a previous evening out. It was quiet at lunch time and dog friendly which was a bonus.

Mixed grill. Gammon was that salty it nearly sent my cholesterol levels through the roof. Wife had fish which was very greasy and tasteless

Not a lot of parking spaces, so had to park in the layby across the road. So no biggie. All burgers come with an egg on the menu, plus u can bounce the burger which is really weird. Burger wasn't great. Staff really friendly.

Food was a bit pricey for the portion sizes. Had to wave to get staff's attention and there was only two other tables with people on them in the pub so it wasnt busy. They where helpful when we got their attention :)

Don’t normally leave a review as I feel they’re not always true. The food tonight was lovely and you get a lot of food for your money. But the service from a lady called Hannah was awful and the way she speaks to customers is awful even her appearance is not right to be serving food I have been to your pub many times and it’s always great but I think you need to give your staff/ Hannah training or do not put her front of house as it’s spoiling the rep of the pub.

Love this place. Had jamaican jerk chicken with stir fry veg and rice and was delicious. Followed by chocolate orange sponge which also lovely, very light dessert.

Food was good and great value for money. Can't fault the service we received. Would certainly return.

Had Sunday dinner presentation was very good, until I started eating my meat I had string in my mouth from around the meat, It was a right put off, Thing is it could have been a child eating it sorry but it's a school boy error Will definitely not be returning

Lovely stop for some lunch today... we had the gammon egg and chips; vegan jackfruit wings (starter menu); and sides of garlic bread and sweet potato fries. Felt reasonably priced at £30 which also included 2 drinks. Staff were lovely and service quick, would recommend a visit!

We went here as a party of 10 of us for my birthday. We were 15 minutes early so our table wasn't ready as the previous people were still sat there. Wasn't a problem at all as we had bought a drink in the bar and was shown to a table we could use until ours was ready. Within 2 minutes we were asked to vacate that table and they wanted it for 2 people who had just turned up. We were then told we could sit at this other table and sit there while we waited.. within 30 seconds a diffrent waitress came and asked us to move again. Which we did. By this time the 10 of us had turned up and there is jus no room to.be standing about as its quite a small area by the bar but we had no where else to stand or sit. So that's wasn't ideal. Totally understand people who had booked tha table would have priority over the 10 of us sat there waiting for our table. But surely there should be a better system in place or don't make so many bookings at once to make sure you have room for.people who are already seated and for those who are waiting to.be seated. We felt a. It awkward as we were standing around the people who are eating. Very uneasy. When we were shown to our table the starters came pretty quickly as we had all pre ordered and it was all delicous. Our mains were the same all cooked beautifully. Desserts were delicious. So all in all a very nice meal it was just the waitresses didn seem to know what to do with us while was waited for the table to be available. Reasonably priced food I thought as well

This is the only place where I will go for a Sunday lunch. The 3 roast Sunday dinner is fantastic.

First visit. Lovely Public House with excellent food with friendly service. Nice clean place and many visitors and only 15.30. Would highly recommended and will be returning.

Very disappointed we had a table tucked round the corner non should be there for two people of four should just accommodate large parties it's loud and takes ages to get served can't be seen food at this price should not be so poor, better food cheaper at wether spoons the outside says good food and service, inside cramped and expensive poor burgers in horrible bun, others say great can't see why, said messy burger with all these things in and around but came and first sight was chips ok but nothing special with messy burger and not much of what was stated, to be there, I cook and a dried up burger with a few bits in it of nothing much to give it height, never again building looks great congrats with that but chef at this price, no?!

We enjoyed a beautiful, delicious ribeye steak. Cooked to perfection medium rare, it melted in the mouth. Good value for money brilliant service at great prices.

My wife and I visited the Railway Inn for an early dinner. Food was nice enough. The service was okay. There is plenty of parking. I thought the prices were a little high for the area.

Visiting a friend and we came across this place and pop in for a meal we will be going there again the service was excellent the food was hot and lovely I'll recommend this place to anyone , if I ever get married I'd love to book my reception there

Christmas lunch..food fantastic

We had a lovely meal the food was delicious very tasty. The staff was very polite, happy, and helpful. The restaurant was lovely and clean. plenty of room. We would recommend this place u really need to visit there. I had the chicken breast stuffed with leek and mushroom, and it was very tasty and the chicken just fell apart. We paid £69 and that was 3 meals and drinks

Decided to have a celebratory meal here and was not disappointed. There was 10 of us and the staff managed to keep us well looked after and we’re helpful and friendly. The food was great and tasty.

Wonderful Sunday lunch with desert for 15 of us. Service excellent to. Top marks.

Great afternoon for works Christmas Lunch

Just came back from the Railway inn for Sunday dinner which was absolutely beautiful tasting and a generous helping, The meat was very tender, the beef was falling apart, the dinner came piping hot the service fabulous the staff were professional and very polite, The pub was a surprise spotless and comfortable.
