Caerphilly Mountain Snack Bar in Caerphilly

Stayed with my sister in law for a couple of days and went to Caerphilly Mountain for breakfast. I would recommend it fantastic .

Always friendly staff and the food is amazing recommend the mountain monster

Updating my review after a visit today. This place has really lost its charm. The entrance and exit has changed again to 1 door. People entering were unsure who had ordered and who was waiting to collect. I ordered on the kiosk which had no receipt paper. I was then given the wrong drinks which I couldn't prove because I had no receipt. I didn't check the food until I got home but then found items to be missing. I used to love the mountain shack. But its really lost its charm and character and now just comes across as a money making machine.

Love the snack bar. I can remember this as a simple van back in the day, having watched this grow in to the amazing snack bar it is now is amazing. Food is always fantastic, the waiting staff have brilliant attitudes and always pleasant.

Food was decent, though it took me over 20 mins to get my order which gets frustrating when other people's didn't take more than 5. On top of that, when I did get my food, I found lettuce was omitted from the wrap which made it hard to eat. At least the hash browns were good.

Overflowing sauce and ketchups but other than that amazing affordable food

I forgot how awful this place was. Was waiting in the queue today for a hotdog, as I was passing and starving. The queue has always been slow but there were loads of staff milling around, and one big guy serving, who didn’t seem to want to be there. Then he shouted at everyone to use the new self service machines in the corner, right in front of the queue, stupid place to put them! It was a free for all, and now nobody was queuing. I left. What a shambles! The food has never been quality stuff, but this was the nail in the coffin for me. Literally the worst place to grab food, plenty of better options nearby

A shambles in there lately! They’ve put kiosks in the wrong area entirely, with staff encouraging people to jump the queue to use them. Music absolutely blaring as well

Popped in for a cold drink and a single cheeseburger. Service is fast and burger cooked well. Not bad value at £6.69 as it's a decent sized burger. I suspect you'd get better quality meat in the mountain burger, so worth trying that if you're hungry. Otherwise the burger is pretty standard quality meat for this kind of place. As others have said, there's no inside seating so most people eat in their cars in the generous sized car park. You'll get pretty decent views as well. I sat outside on a bench that was a bit sheltered from the cold wind and it was fine - just wrap up warm.

Attended today. Ordered a burger and chips Food was slightly warm. Chips where soggy and horrible definitely not happy with my purchase price also expensive

There has been a snack bar there since forever. Once a mobile burger bar, now a permanent building. Looking good with good service. I think pre-order screens suck, but thats just me. What lets the whole region down (badly) is the litter. Come on fellow Welsh! We have some of the best countryside in the world with litter from all over the world. Clean it up, please.

Amazing food, lovely location, easy parking. Spacious outdoor seating with stunning views.

With so many people behind the counter the hood is very slow and a queue builds up quickly , but food is very tasty

It was really nice, when I seen it said snack bar I thought it would be basic food, couldn't have been further from the truth big fat meat rolls n sauce, cooked breakfasts, burgers the lot, well worth going here, it's now my favourite 😍

Had heard really good things about these guys and placed a simple order through just eat for three burgers and chips. They failed to deliver the 3rd meal and I phoned them and they advised after making the mistake there was nothing they could do and take it up with just eat. Well you could do something. You can deliver the food you had been paid for. When I take it up with just eat it says there is nothing they can do, case closed. Both businesses have acted really poorly and I can't excuse how either have acted here. Either the Caerphilly mountain shack should have personally delivered the meal or just eat should have refunded. When you got nowhere with either it's very frustrating So i'd avoid ordering from this place via just eat as they just take your money and ignore you. The food itself we thought was average. I was hoping for a quality burger but it really felt poor quality beef. The bun and onions and sauces were fine but meat quality was very poor. Finally the chips were tiny little fries which are pointless for a takeaway order as will always arrive cold at best. So overall a negative experience. Let's hope they do better for future orders

Food is always over greasy. Service a little on the slow side. Bread/rolls need upgrading to something a bit nicer.

Great place for a bite to eat. Located up on Caerphilly mountain with plenty of parking the kitchen is super efficient and it’s clear that they are very organised and used to dealing with a lot of customers. Food is lovely! Staff are busy so you don’t get much time to talk to them- however they’re always nice

Great place with great staff! The food was excellent. Lots of seating around the front and back with lovely scenery and trails around. Ordering food was easier as they have new machines that allow you to order on a menu with all the options layed out in front of you! Very efficient. Waited about 10 minutes for my food and wasn't disappointed when I got it :) Will definitely come back again!

Food is good, can be quite busy pleasant setting and views. On colder days wrap up warm as no indoor seating.

First visit in several years. Really good operation to provide cooked to order snacks and beverages.

Do not put serviettes in with my food it's unhygienic wrap it in foil if it happens again I will fail you on all questions trust me and I will pass this this on to FSA I want my food not tissue stuck to it yes order to bryn aber that's from me and a few others use plastic trays but if I have to peal tissue off my food I will post a bad report serviettes are served separately not under my foidor stuck to it. Your food is great when no papers are stuck to it please use trays .food is generally fantastic please use a tray

Loved this place for years now..first time when son was 9 he now 24 says everything. lol.goes about twice a year or more if can as it out of our way but takes dog for a walk up mountains. We used the app to order to car..good if yu have anxiety like me..shocked was only about 5 mins .quick service..young las who brought to car was polite happy ...i orderd the hotdog with cheese and ketchup with chips my son had burger and cheese this time..food bang on again..huge filling tastses awsome .great value for money. Goid size portion of chips although nothing special ..bog standard taste wise they gd enough..droppd a star for 2nd time now was givwn to me really squashed and a lot / most sause on paper bag. !? Car was parked next to buikding so only seconds from putting in bag to car..maybe not wrap so tight or pack looser ? Its deffo avoidable ..but wont stop me going back jst an unnesecary quip ..that hope stops lol..great food great staff lush building lush menu great latte coffeeeeee and good toilets too..can sit outside and out back with some arches undercover...if yu havnt tried them yet wat u waiting for? Updated my review after a recent visit from a long time not coming here. It feels really let go and starting to feel run down. Alot of the seating area was damaged or closed. And the food isnt good value any more. I had the lamb roll which literally was a finger roll and cuts of lamb no dressing no salad nothing and it was £9.99, the surprise was because of the huge price hike since last visit and it's not priced up either. Wasn't good value for money. Sauces are also very watery. Rolls were flaky and not very fresh

I needed a coffee and theirs is very good. The food is cooked before your eyes and the selection of raw food looked good, but I was not hungry.

Amazing food and well priced. Food is classic English food in the softest buns and sandwiches you’ll find around. It’s greasy but in a good way. If you don’t hear your order number they don’t call it again, so stay close.. No dine in and there’s a big queue so get in line. Decent food though so you won’t be disappointed. Tea and coffee available too but not the quality like the sandwiches. Overall worth visiting and getting a roll.

Best burgers and ice-cream worth the drive. Can get quite busy but worth the wait. Food stunning and prices are outstanding for the amount you get . Highly recommend

It’s had something of a facelift since I was last here around 12 years ago! Nice place and nice food. Especially good after a nice walk around the mountain.

Food quality has dropped over the years and so is the service from staff. Seems like the food is being slapped together loaded with grease and feels like I'm eating from McDonald's. Not even mad just very disappointed that the owner isn't looking after his company and yet he adds these new machines that don't work and no staff seems to know how to use them 🤦🏻 I hope my review can share some light to the owner to sort him or she out 👍🏻

Dropped for an ice cream this afternoon, service was incredibly slow, and everytime it came to pay the server had to go and get a terminal even though there was a constant, queue, and the server was very slow, took 20 minutes to get two ice creams even though there was only two people in front of me. Feel staff need more training and help .

Always reliable, hot, tasty food and plenty of it. Parking and seating are good.

Called in for a bite, was quite messy, hectic, and although a slightly busy time took a little under 15 minutes to provide an order that was incorrect and lacking slightly sadly..

Service was slow, it took 15 minutes to make two breakfast rolls with only one customer physically in front of us. Customers behind us got their food quicker. There seemed to be some confusion with how to prioritise the delivery orders and the ones for customers physically waiting. Though as always, the food was good quality and I'd continue to recommend it. Especially if you can stop and eat, making use of the benches they have there as the view is lovely.

A very busy cafe on top of Caerphilly mountain. Good food served faster than McDonald's! Lots of parking and easy to find. Great place for bikers and walkers. Recommended!

I've heard about this place and have been meaning to try the food for a long time. I must admit it was a bit of a disappointment, the food is just like a burger van but with higher prices. I've had a better "rat burger" as they call them at music festivals. Also the lady with the dodgy eyebrows who takes the orders needs to chill out a bit and not scare the customers away

We went searching for a bacon and egg butty and found ourselves here. We weren't disappointed! The food on offer all looked stunning, my bacon and egg was delicious and there are a large range of flavours of ice-cream on offer too. Considering the out of the way location I was surprised at how many people were there, a testament to the amazing food and super efficient kitchen and staff. It was also spotless, a great find!

The food is absolutely amazing and good value for money. They are regularly busy but serve a large quantity of people quite quickly with no compromise on food quality. People happily wait in line for this food. It is a shame however that there is no in door dining space given the mountain is exposed to high wind.

What can I say about this place? I've been buying food from here since it was a van in a layby. The reason I keep coming back is the burgers are simply top notch.

i broke down on mountain road and found this place by accident. Fantastic snack bar in the middle of nowhere and extremely packed with people. Food also yummy too

Myself and my partner visted visted recently and ordered are usual we come here very often and have done for a very long time but I've watchrd this place rapidly decline over the last 2 years i given it the odd chance every 2 to 3 months but after this visit i don't think ill ever return So we arrived and ordered asking for my partners to be well done reaffirmed with server and unsured the cook to ensure its well done wait for order no issues only person there took 10 minutes but no issue I wait patiently because I understand the well done takes some time but he cooked the steak for far to little time no more than 2 minutes after he got the rest of order done I get handed the order ask again knowing there's no way its well done but giving benefit of the doubt sit in car check steak shocking rare take it back inside ask for it to be flashed and cooked throughly please as my partner is pregnant and the man's response "that's how I have it " that is well done " mind you still pink not close to medium in the slightest I choose to bite my tongue and wait patiently as I have a cool head but this guy just won't let it go making comments laughing it up with his colleague making sly jabs so after 10 minutes after enduring this awful encounter I go back to my car to give my partners her food there was no apology as she had already already ate some I'm just glad this was a good experience for your staff and they had a nice giggle to themselves right in front of me

Well, this is a place I've passed many times never realising what it is. Today, my oldest took me inside for food. WOW, I'm shocked and amazed at the same time. The selection of fast food choices is impressive. I enjoyed a mixed grill roll totally stuffed with meat beautifully cooked tender and delicious. My boy had a mega burger combo, which he devoured. It's like American fast food meets Wales. Whoever owns this place has combined the two beautifully. Quick efficient service of top quality fast food. If your ever anywhere near, I highly recommend you pop in and try something. You won't be disappointed

Great food, especially grills and ice cream. Would definitely recommend the Mountain Burger and the Minted Lamb roll. Awesome food served by friendly staff who get stuck in to get you served quickly and efficiently. Well worth a visit. Their icecream is awesome too, but unfortunately they don't serve it until April.

Hubby had Mixed Grill in a roll and chips and cup of tea he said it was the hottest cuppa he's ever had and mixed grill was huge. I had the chicken and stuffing with a pot of Gravy food was lovely cooked freshly in front of us place was really busy but the staff were quickly getting through the orders.
