An excellent pub with great service and atmosphere!!

Sunday lunchtime the music was very loud and heavy rock music not the right selection. The room was very hot even with the door open. The food was very generous portions but with sweet potato purée, red cabbage and excessive gravy it was all very “ mushy”.

Went to Brighton for a day out and wanted dinner on the way home. Googled pubs where we were and The Railway Inn on Station Rd came up. We all had a roast and I have to say it was the best roast I’ve had in a long time. Great vibe to the pub and wonderful staff. Excellent value considering the quality of the food too. Would definitely highly recommend a visit ! 10 out of 10 . Thank you x

It’s changed an awful lot from the pub I tempered from 30 years ago which is why I was sceptical when my mates suggested going there but it’s now a very nice place with a pleasant atmosphere and generally just a nice place to go

Had a lovely roast pork belly today .. waited around 30 mins from ordering it but it was pretty busy . Would defo come for another

The £15 prosecco on Friday evenings is great, and we love the garden. But the loud heavy rock music is so bad we are not sure we will continue to come. We did ask for something more generic with a Friday night vibe, but they just turned it down a bit, it was still the same awful music. Such a shame as we have been coming after work on Fridays for ages.

Booked in for Sunday lunch. Food was excellent. I had the lamb and there was lots of it. Very good to see a wide range of zero percent alcohol drinks available. Would definitely go again.

This is a great pub, the beers are always well kept, the staff friendly and the food great. Very family friendly with a great selection of ice cream for both adults and kids. A surprisingly large outdoor area and a great function room.

We just booked the function room for my daughter’s 21st Birthday and it was perfect!! Justine really helped us from booking to ideas to make it more fun. Josh worked the bar and was happy , efficient and really added to the atmosphere!! Great transport links with the train station and bus stops outside ! All in all, I’d highly recommend the Platform room for any function!!! Thanks to everyone at the Railway Tavern for making her birthday so special!!

It's a very nice place and the terrace it's gorgeous. Buuut was a guy in the bar tall with beard with such a bad vibe and arrogant. 1 star for his mood..

A good vibe pub with consistent roasts every Sunday. Last time I had the pork belly and crackling it had a decent amount of good quality food, including a massive Yorkshire pudding and red cabbage. I arrived at 6pm and they hadn’t run out! (Another big bonus). The beer on draught is always good and the ales change frequently. They have an above average selection of wine also, including a white vino verde which I love! The staff are always friendly and amenable, plus there are offers running throughout the week for 2 for 1 deals on food. In my opinion, this pub is much better than a lot of central Brighton pubs which can possibly be pretentious and a bit w@nky 😆

A quality local where anyone should feel welcome, of a good size and serving decent beers and good grub. Can get very busy but even then the service flows smoothly. Get yourself an ice cream, you won't regret it.

Ordered a pint and a glass of wine, nothing special about either drink and it was £18.95, stupidly expensive for two drinks, was busy so I'm guessing people don't mind paying over the odds for drinks but I do and it was a rip off

Absolutely delicious Sunday roast! Can’t fault it and they cater for everyone’s requirements too, with GF and veggie options.

The worst niches I have ever eaten in my life. I think they don't know the original recipe, so the price becomes expensive.

Big pub near Portslade Station, was in late midweek, not bad for a cheeky pitstop. Update: went to a party in the function room on a Saturday, great fun with own bar + access to main bar. Pub pretty busy even at 7pm,all good.

They have updated the menu from the previous medicinal l Mexican offerings and haven't yet tried it, but the range on meat, veggie and vegan offerings does look pretty good. Still lots of nice ice cream on offer :)

Checked with staff re: car parking charges which didn't apply to us - logged car reg no. on the tablet, inside the pub, which gives you up to 4 hours. Good selection of food choices. We were able to sample Senior's 2 course meal which was good value. Friendly female member of staff. Quiet atmosphere, but it was early in the week.

Just had a roast and the cherry cookie dough , was immense great roast and dessert was beautifully done and gorgeous

Went there for lunch with my daughter... Steak and stilton sandwich in dough bread side salad & crisps all included and we orders side chips... So delicious..Going back on Mothers Day Sunday for Roast .5/5

This large mock Tudor facade pub is unmissable if you step out of Portslade station and turn towards Boundary Road. The Railway Inn, Portslade was built in 1860, by local brewers Vallance & Catt, about 20 years after the Portslade station itself. Stepping inside a well-stocked bar with a friendly & welcoming staff... Davina & Co. Chic decor & chilled atmosphere. As you head deeper into the pub, behind the central staircase there’s a raised seating area offering more low seating and padded bench sets. Beyond that room is the garden set up with lots of individual tables and chairs, which is cheerful and bright. As well as the typical major brands: Guinness, Birra Moretti, and some more. Huge variety of both cask and keg beers, wines & spirits. Weekly pub quizzes, monthly art classes and live acoustic music once a month, & seasonal events are happening throughout the year. The Menu at The Railway Inn is ‘Street Fusion’, inspired. Fried chicken, nachos, tacos, loaded fries, burgers, and then a load of oriental Asian cuisine such as bao, bento, gyoza and noodles... Plus a children's menu too. The Ice Cream outlet is built into the bar stocked by Hove Gelato, which has as much ice cream on offer as you’d expect to find at your local Gelataria. Dog-friendly 🐕 I would highly recommend & will be returning soon.

Totally covid prepared. Nice pub. One thing.. The head on their Guinness needs to be honed. 8mm guys not 30mm! Good burger deals on a Wednesday but you'll need to book. Very popular. Update... Guinness heads are more acceptable. Great atmosphere. Fledgling comedy nights. Quiz night on a Monday.. If only they had shut the box!! Too many people book tables and don't show. Regulars should come first. Stop booking tables if you are flakey. Ruins it fr the rest of us.

My mate took me for a Sunday roast. It's a tradition every time I visit UK. This time we went to his local, The Railway Inn. It was fantastic. Absolutely packed*, clearly a very popular Sunday roast spot. The atmosphere was fantastic, the staff were really cool, and the soundtrack was just perfect. You don't so much walk to your table, more do a slight boogie. The roast? Really really good! I had the vegetarian option, obviously. Photos supplied for context. *Even though the restaurant was packed, the service was impeccable!

We only went because we had some time to fill. But it turned out to be very good indeed with an enjoyable covers band and a pre Xmas party ambience. Drinks good and friendly service at the bar. Would revisit.

Having been across the road for a Xmas work lunch we lurched into this pub as the closest drinking joint. Against my expectations it was lovely, good range of drinks, pleasant staff and atmosphere, and lovely ice cream!

Had a Christmas menu group booking for 8 people and we had a lovely evening. The turkey main course was delicious with vegetable side dishes to share. Large portions and all cooked perfectly. The puddings were tasty too and everything was served on time and cleared away quickly. Great choice of beers. Please can we get a Good Times pub in Shoreham please!

Didn't eat today, just a drink, very festively decorated, kids and pets welcome, even an un house ice-cream cabinet and old fashioned sweets by the quarter, the gardens great here, I really haven't been for a long while, and can't speak for the food as I say. But worth a visit !

Here for our annual St Leonard's Beer and Carols. Great atmosphere with the locals as vocal as the rest of us! Generous helping of excellent cheesy chips, and Panatone, a winter stout. The Harveys was good as well.

This is a great pub. Run by the Good Times company who really know how to run decent pubs. They have a number in the West Hove area and they are all good destinations in my opinion. Good selection of beers and always plenty of staff. 👍

Such a great pub, often go here for lunch as they have decent 2-4-1 and other special offers. Food is great and decent selection of drinks. Great atmosphere and nice garden.

Went for a roast on Sunday, the pork was incredible! Staff were swift and friendly. Very attentive. 10/10.

This is a brilliant pub, and also a great place to meet friends and family. The beer is gorgeous, as also is the food. The staff are sweet and welcoming, and I would particularly praise Cat, the manager, and Tom, another manager, for the great job they do. So, come to the Railway, have a lovely evening, and rediscover the sweet side of life!

We had a family party at The Railway for iur daughters 18th on Saturday, it was great food was really good and all bought out on time, the staff couldnt have done enough. Massive thankyou to Justine for her organising top job. would highly recommend.

I went there with a group on Saturday for a family get together and found the whole experience highly enjoyable. The food, the staff and the general level of service were all excellent! I would definitely go again if it wasn't a four to five hour drive away!

I was waiting to get a drink at tge bar, a very nice lady came to serve me, but I said I thought people further down were ahead of me, so she went to serve them. Only two people behind the bar, the other a chap with a black & white shirt. He was very friendly with the people he was serving and spent a long time just chatting (having fulfilled their order) then he picked up a bottle & took it to the other end of the bar? I gesticulated & he came to me (a 69 year old female) I said: I thought I was invisible there? He said: no you weren't but DON'T annoy me. At which point I walked out. I have been using this pub since it opened and have always had good, polite service, but sadly not this evening

Disgusting service! Unfriendly staff. Made us feel very small! Especially one of the women behind the bar!

I recently hired the Platform venue at the back of the pub for my 50th birthday party, we all had food beforehand which was tasty and just what we needed before the party! We were able to set up early and get balloons and the DJ ready for opening at 7pm, we put a big tab on the bar and the staff served people fast. Lots of fun was had by all! The lights and speakers on site were great and we used the projector screen for our extra lights, the sofas on the mezzanine were a great place for people to chill out. I'd 100% use it again - bonus was we could stay til 1am to have a proper party!

Selling weeks out of date snacks. When asked for complaints forms or way to make a complaint, was told that the company doesn’t have complaints policy which is unacceptable. Disappointed 100% !!

We don't often come in on a Friday night and it was buzzing. We didn't eat that night but have done many times. The food is incredible. Always good for a night out.

Food is really good, and reasonably priced, staff friendly. A real gem. I have taken one * off the food, not for the quality, but the portions are too big, so feels a bit off-putting when this mountain of beautiful food is put Infront of you. Wish there was an option of regular and small portions (I apricate not all dishes can be served in different option of portion size) Then could have both starter, main and dessert.

Fun time at the Monday Quiz with a really nice menu special, loaded Yorkies with a lentil and cheese wellington.

£14 for two pints feels like overkill.

Lovely pub, lovely staff. £16 for the burger and chips they serve is crazy. The burger is small and no better than a burgar van burger, the chips are overcooked. I expect a much better standard for that price

Nice pub! Great menu.. I went for the 241 burgers and the burger was very tasty but not very filling! Very small burger with small fries, served in a small plastic basket and if I had to pay the full price of £15.95 I would of been extremely unhappy but instead just left still hungry. Nice and quick service, great pub with lots of seat inside and out and they have various nights on.

Very good family meal of Sunday roast and burgers. Everything was beautifully cooked, and there are plenty of seats inside and out. And if the puddings menu doesn't appeal, just look at the 20 or so flavours of ice-cream and sorbet

This place has a lovely vibe and very tasty food. Love the non-alcoholic options (Juicy AF particularly) and the treats and gelato. Always such a treat, even options for vegans.

Very expensive for a Portslade pub. £17.50 for 2 pints of one particular IPA. Won't be rushing back. Update April 2023 pub confirmed price correct as a local beer!!!. Bearing in mind Foghorn down the road can do local brews for 50% less than this that doesn't excuse ridiculous amount charged.

Bao were good, broccoli was bit undercooked. Ice cream was decent

Went for Sunday lunch with some friends. It wasn't as busy as usual, but that's January I guess. Bar staff were extremely efficient and very friendly. Meals came within about 20 minutes which was fine, however asked the waitress for some horseradish which never appeared. Had to go to the bar and request again as there didn't seem to be any floor staff to ask. Meals were very generous and on the whole, had a very nice Sunday experience.

Fantastic roast dinner! Be very hungry. Lovely family lunch but odd the staff couldn't manage to serve an Irish coffee. Not on the menu apparently despite all the ingredients evidently available. Odd!

Nice community pub who make an effort to provide entertainment throughout the week. Good ale, food average. Just started a jam night on Mondays which should fill a quiet night.

Attended a pottery class in the back room of pub. Made a pot and painted a tile. Fabulous fun, good price. Pretty frontage (flowers) to pub welcoming you. Big inside. Different days have different offers on food. We arrived early to eat. Only when we had started the lesson, did we see that if you are attending a class, mention pottery at bar and receive 15% off. You also receive a free drink from a selection list. Chatting with others in group they told us that there is a retro night, quizzes, crafts all going on. Great stuff, hope to return soon.

Lovely pub with excellent selection of beer and ales. Food is well priced well presented and with a good deal of choice and all of this at competitive prices in a great atmosphere and terrific staff.

Been here a couple of times since things reopened and as before food a drinks, staff and prices all fine. However due to the measures in place to protect staff and customers on one occasion we waited just short of 30 minutes for the first drinks to arrive. Appreciate the efforts being made but do feel that they should manage things a little better possibly by hiring a few extra staff.

Visited Christmas Eve, had to book. Good food, not bad beer, handy for the train. If you go with your wife, you'll end up being told off. The waitresses are all stunningly good looking.

We were visiting Brighton/Hove/Portslade on vacation and our party saw this place and thought Sunday roasts sounded very British. By 1pm this place was packed, primarily by families with small children and several parties with dogs. Order at the bar and note your table number. We had the sirloin roasts which were fine and came with large yorkshire puddings and fried potatoes. Very strong cider and draft beer selection. A bit overpriced for everything but judging by the popularity of this place people seem to enjoy it and it doesn't bother them. Not much on menu is gluten free by default but they worked with us on the roasts to use no gluten containing ingredients. Service was quick and kind, especially considering how busy it was for Sunday lunch.

Excellent Sunday roast on Mother’s Day but ridiculously priced bottles of house wine starting at £29! Come on guys you’re a pub not a restaurant in the centre of Brighton, I’ve been here many times in the past but will not bother again with wine to accompany my roast being that expensive!

Ordered Chef special for haddock and chips with peas. It cost me £15. Wasn't informed nor does the menu state that everything would be over cooked and covered in salt. Let alone the whole thing was previously frozen. To be fair I was asked if I wanted a replacement, I said no because know it'll be the same food. Returned 75% of my meal. If I could possibly give 0 stars I would.

This pub is over priced to the max in this area charging £6:70 for ascension cider which normally retails @ around £5:10 absolutely ridiculous
