You have to love it when a business would sooner a one off parking charge than a loyal customer who drops at least that amount in the till monthly! Avoid at all costs and go up the road to the hornsmill….better service, better food and no greed

Visited earlier today for Sunday lunch, the server was very friendly and chatty. The food was lovely, perfectly portioned and generous amounts of gravy. The desserts were also a delicious treat, will definitely return in future!

Great atmosphere and friendly staff. Good deals on drinks, especially when there's sports on. Multiple TVs and a large screen for watching sports. Nice bar food available: pizzas, burgers, hot dogs, topped chips.

Recently me and a few friends stopped here for drinks one evening, we ordered three pints between the four of us as one of my friends was driving us all home again. The girl behind the bar began giving our designated driver filthy looks, at which point he apologised "Sorry I'm driving, is it OK if I don't drink?" to which the girl behind the bar replied "Erm, no. We're a pub, we serve alcohol....." No problem, we'll spend our money elsewhere.

I've stopped here a couple of times for a beer and its never been particularly friendly. However on this occasion it was downright DISGUSTING. I had a friend with me who is of mixed race and on walking in we were met with the dirtiest of looks and foolish mumbling. We felt really uncomfortable so we went to play pool. within 5 minute some idiot had put a song on the jukebox referencing monkeys. I've never felt so embarrassed! I looked at the bar-lady as if to say "are you going to turn this off" and got nothing back. So we left. What an embarrassment. Sadly I think that if any of the locals who drink there saw this review, they would probably be proud.

The Railway Inn only does a Sunday Roast Dinner once a month more the pity. The food is excellent, hot and home cooked well worth waiting for

Live football with acceptably priced drinks in a convivial atmosphere. Could one ask for more, as a local? Splendid.

as always , ;looking for somewhere to eat on sundays, we came upon the railway pub in helsby village on the A56 on the corner of lower rakes lane, now then , on first entry we thought oh what on earth is this, its just a basic pub, if you want posh, its not for you, if you want damn good food cooked fresh, not microwaved tasteless rubbish with oven chips , the get in and try it for yourself, we both had liver bacon onion gravy chips and peas followed by bannoffi cheesecake and washed down with a pint for me and a tonic water for my partner, the staff, young ladies, always have a smile for you and the boss and his wife work the kitchen all there in view to be seen, as for the price, this goes back ten years, ours cost £17.75 yes thats not a misprint, we have paid nearly double that in some and been disappointed but not here at the railway we will go back again without a doubt maybe we will see you there

We ordered room service from this restaurant. The most awful coronation chicken arrived. I asked for brown, they gave me white bread. Not a bit of raisin nor greens. It’s my favourite sandwich and I couldn’t even have the other half. It’s tasteless and it stuck to your gums. We also had the meat pizza. Not bad but not much meat. The curry was also tasteless and so was the avocado bruschetta. The best thing there was the seasonal vegetables. Loved it! Breakfast here was also good.

Got to say that this is the first time we've been in the Penny Black for several years and so we decided to call in for breakfast. Table spotless, service at bar excellent, delivery of food excellent. Breakfast consisted of bacon, sausage, hash browns, egg, beans and toast. Everything was very well cooked and tasty, the egg also had a lovely soft yolk. Also added black pudding which again was perfectly cooked. Unlimited freshly ground choice of coffee's topped off a most enjoyable breakfast.
