Biggest Let Down was Breakfast....Was Not impressed From The Off. If You Are Charging People For A Set Breakfast At A Set Price It Is Common Courtesy To Make Sure That You Have Those Products Available For Those Customers. An Establishment As Large As Yours, Should Be Ordering Enough To Cater For The Clientele You Have At Weekend. And The Chef Should Really Know How To Cook And Present The Food For There Customers. Instead Of Half Heartedly Cooking It To Then Slap On A Plate. You Should Be Ashamed of Yourself. But On A Good Note The Room Was Stunning And Immaculately Clean.

For an old hotel overnight room was ok.. However the Sunday Morning Breakfast is embarrassing. First of all your staff need to be wearing their hair back when handling food. FOOD TONGS sitting on spare seating . No white bread , no teaspoons , and staff seem more interested in what is going on behind the scenes, than hosting overnight stay customers arriving to have breakfast. Duty Manager go and see what your restaurant is presenting as it ain't good. Breakfast area serving cold food and can't even serve hot coffee. 3 star not 4 star. Premia Inn offer a better Breakfast. No atmosphere what so ever, just comes across that the staff don't want to work here. Won't be visiting again.

A beautiful hotel. The location was ideal for my sister and I to explore what Chester has to offer including the Christmas markets. Our room was a standard double 303. Not over impressed as the bathroom cleanliness really let it down. The sink was dirty, dirt around the shower screen and windows. We were only booked in for one night so we didn't ask to change rooms. Breakfast was lovely.

The location and staff are the best things about this hotel. Room was okay except for large hanging cobwebs, filthy window sill, wires hanging out of towel rail in bathroom and an empty bottle of lucazade in bedside table (not ours). One afternoon on our return to hotel there were dirty (& I means dirty) sheets on the floor close to our room - disgusting Although it was December the bar wasn’t open at all except for the Saturday night, poor!

When we arrived we had no heating in our room the young lady on reception gave us a small electric heater to use until the maintenance man came to our room to fix the problem. The bathroom was very cold and we were told that the towel rail had been disconnected because it was faulty. During our stay we experienced unprofessional service (very young, pleasant, but inexperienced staff) in the restaurant, we learned later that the head chef was on holiday. On our last day (on the return of the chef) the breakfast quality and service was 100% improved. We were disappointed that the bar opened once only for a few hours. It is a shame that we had to experience all these problems as the hotel is perfectly positioned and the reception staff and head chef were really helpful.

Considering that we got one night, a Friday night too, with breakfasts, we considered it to be great value for money. The location in the centre of Chester is terrific and almost unbeatable. It ought to have been expected that it would be a very small room with a particularly small bathroom so we weren't too disappointed. But what was disappointing was the heating system. The radiator was burning hot and couldn't be regulated . Even with the window open it was very hot. In fairness they gave us a fan but a hotel of this quality ought to have a better heating control. In contrast there were two showers. The hand-held one got nice and hot. But the top one was little more than lukewarm. We were happy because of the cost and location, but we'd have been especially disappointed with the heating and shower if we'd paid more.

DO NOT STAY HERE. Pros- Staff are lovely, helpful and accommodating Location is great. Cons- Beds are uncomfortable, old. Pillows are worn out and old. Cleaning they do is light cleaning and not deep cleaning. The dust and dirt build up in our room is vile. Bedrooms are hot and you can’t open your windows. To say the property is tired is an understatement, it is absolutely battered. There are marked walls, signs hanging off the walls, knocks in furniture. The property smells mouldy, musky and just old. We were supposed to be here two nights. But after my watch telling me I had a ‘poor non restorative sleep’ I am biting the bullet and booking into another hotel to get a good nights sleep. What an absolute joke of a place.

The bar was closed for the duration of our stay... it sounded like building work had commenced before 8am in the room next to us (or near us). When we went down to breakfast we waited to be seated for 5 mins or so before A waitress appeared. Once I ordered my breakfast the order came out wrong. Great location, shame the hotel doesn't meet a decent standard.

The building is beautiful and right in the heart of Chester city and the staff excellent. Unfortunately the hotel seems to rest on this! Our room had no openable window, instead an air con unit was the only way to get 'fresh' air. The single beds were incredibly narrow and there was no mattress protector on them. Whilst clean overall, the carpets, sealed window and fixtures really need replacing / cleaning for stains etc. The wardrobe smelled damp / dusty too. The rooms overall just really need some TLC to bring them back up to standard. The rooms provide a jug and glasses, but the water machine in the corridor wasn't working. The bathroom was clean but the toilet didn't flush properly / well, and the shower head no longer moved (no good if you are taller). I'd say that with branded chain hotels and lots of other options nearby, I wouldn't stay here again as it's actually poor value overall.

Location is so ideal. Middle of the city. Affordable and such a nice looking hotel. My only issues is that the windows had dust and cobwebs, pillows are too weak to support head (that could be a me issue), mattress was hard to sleep on (but my partner slept well so again my opinion), sanitary bags in bathroom was not stocked and housekeeper still tried to open the door despite a DND sign on but later on no one came to clean the room. Chester was brilliant, plenty of shops , restaurants and things to do. The hotel was very central and right in the city Center. The staff were very nice, helpful and friendly. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The fire alarm went off early morning although we were woken up the staff acted appropriately so obviously were trained in fire procedures. The steakhouse restaurant was closed so a bit disappointing. My man and I love Chester so as a birthday treat for him I looked for things to do on his birthday - 7/4/17. Found a deal on line 'visit Chester', 2 courses £16.50. went through booking process. got to total for 2 people = £33, then realised I did not have my debit card. Went back on line later, around breakfast time and the deal was gone. Phoned the hotel, the receptionist was most helpful and offered to explore and call me back. When she did she advised she found the deal on the website and offered to book me in over the phone. When we arrived we were offered a different price menu £18.50 each. I explained the on line price but they assured the menu price was correct and in line with website. My partners soup was just warm. It was promptly taken back to kitchen but took ages to come back. His steak was too rare, despite requesting med/rare, promptly went back but took ages to return which he then ate alone, as I had already eaten my salmon meal (10/10 for taste) alone. My dessert then took ages to arrive too. For the main part we were the only 2 in the restaurant until a small party arrived for a buffet. Staff ere apologetic for errors with meal but made no complimentary offer to compensate. Though food did taste wonderful the experience of celebrating my man's birthday was far from the best.

Unfortunately my friends and I were very disappointed with our experience on Saturday night at this restaurant. It was my hen weekend and we were looking forward to a nice meal before going to some bars in Chester. We were told that we would have to wait for both our starters and our mains ( as a big party of 12 had just ordered) and considering we booked a table for 8 PM we only ate our main at 10:10 PM this resulted in us not finishing our meal as we just didn't feel like eating by then. Although the waiter was very apologetic and attentive this really spoilt our experience. We were offered a complimentary bottle of wine but we didn't finish that either as we were so fed up of waiting. I don't feel the restaurant should I accept reservations if they have big parties in and they can't cope. I have stayed at other hotels in this chain and have never experienced such problems.

We were a group of 10 ladies about to embark on a night out in Chester starting off in 1650 St. John's Street. We walked into such elegance; the place was truly beautiful. We were welcomed and shown to the bar, luckily we just made 2 for 1 on cocktails and felt it rude to say no to this offer! We ordered the cocktails just before 8pm and then went to our table. The waiting on staff were very attentive, we ordered our drinks and food, the main offered a range of meals on their a la carte menu. The wine we ordered arrived however we were left waiting for our cocktails for quite a while. Thirty minutes later they finally arrived, they were worth the wait as they were extremely tasty and the drink size large! Once the food arrived we were not disappointed the food was of a high class and again of ample portion size. For that deserved elegance I would recommend this restaurant for a meal, however the 4 star rating is down to the time we waited for our cocktails.

Having looked at the sample menu on-line I was looking forward to choosing from the varied menu. This may have been a sample menu, but in reality there was far less to choose from. However I decided on the rump steak with hand cut chips, as according to the on-line menu, the steaks were 'outstanding'. Unfortunately, it wasn't till after the waiter had enquired about our meal, that I found the steak to contain much sinew and had to leave almost half. The chips also were quite unpleasant, hand cut they may be, but possibly the wrong type of potato? When I had the opportunity to speak to the waiter at the end of the meal, he was not very apologetic and said he would mention it to the chef. I'm afraid we did not sample the desserts and also passed on the coffee as we thought £3.50 a little excessive. Very disappointing for a hotel with an otherwise good reputation.

A lovely restaurant with a very good menu of Fish and Meat, a good modern feel to both the Menu and the Restaurant itself. We had Calamari as a starter which was fresh and very tasty, we then both had Fish and Chips which again was excellent.Good sized Fish in a nice light batter and homemade Chips accompanied by a tasty tarter sauce.Cant go wrong for Location and Food. excellent.

My wife and I visited the Blossoms today for afternoon tea, a Xmas gift from her daughter. It was my first visit despite living in the area all my life. It was quiet which contributed to the relaxed atmosphere , service friendly, prompt and efficient, food typical Afternoon tea fare, the cakes were particularly tasty ! We asked for Darjeeling and Assam tea but these werent available, however the Earl Grey was an acceptable alternative. All in all a very pleasant experience.

We booked an evening meal on Saturday night. The bar was OK but clearly part of a hotel just off reception. The restaurant is welcoming and comfortable with plenty of room between tables. The food was fairly good and enjoyable to be fair. However it wasn't anything special. The wine list was limited. So, it was an enjoyable night out at a reasonable price but that is about as far as I would go. There was no wow factor and the food was just pretty good. We were disappointed as we were looking forward to something special in the food department here. I doubt we will go again, not because the food was bad (as this would be unfair), but because we would rather give another restaurant a try. Mixed view on this occasion I'm afraid.

We had a lovely meal here whilst stopping at the hotel. Couldn't fault service, choice or price. The seating had just enough room between tables so as not to be overheard and we generally had a really good time. Would definitely recommend to others

My partner booked us a room at the hotel for two nights this week and I am a strong believer that excellent service should be rewarded. We started off in the hotel bar for 2-4-1 cocktails. The bartender Joey could not have been more attentive, nothing was too much, not to mention his incredible knowledge of cocktails and the drink range. He remembered our drinks and service was very friendly and efficient. So much so, we returned the following night, my partner even requested the 6 nations on the television and again, nothing was too much - even finding us stools to sit on! I saw the restuarant on trip advisor had mixed reviews anfter my meal I have no idea why. The service was amazing. The food was perfect and the staff were knowledgable and very friendly. We had the calamari and the mackerel pate (catch of the day) to start, followed by the Chicken ceasar salad and rib eye steak. The mackerel pate was the freshest I have ever had and the calamari cooked perfectly. The salad was served with juicy hot chicken and the steak cooked beautifully. The two waiting staff (Paige & Steven) were lovely and polite, nothing was too much. I would happily visit again and recommend this restaurant to friends. This restaurant was ideal for us, we dined early so naturally it was slightly quiet but the atomoshpere was just right.A delightful evening.

Met a friend in Chester for shopping and lunch. Went to 1650 great location, good food, very pleasant staff and good value for money. Ate in the bar area, because it had a pleasant atmosphere. The bar noticed my friend had some tablets out to take so brought her a glass of water to take the tablets without being asked which we thought was excellent customer service.

No atmosphere, no soul, food not up to expectations. Wine and drinks over priced. No fish of the day. Not a good experience even though young staff tried hard. Will not return and will tell others not to as well. Disappointing and expensive evening.

would not serve us a cocktail at 7.20pm, even though there was only us in the bar plus one other person drinking a cocktail. They finish serving cocktails at 7.00 pm on a Saturday apparently. Staff disinterested and rude.

We were a party of 12 and attended this restaurant a week before Christmas. There were only about another 10 diners in the restaurant at the time but service was very slow. It was worth the wait because the steak was probably one of the best I've ever had. Also, the drinks were extremely expensive - £12 for one glass of wine!!

My mother and myself were staying at the hotel and decided that after a heavy day Christmas shopping that having a meal in the restaurant would be perfect. We were not disappointed we both chose the Red Pepper Risotto which was cooked to perfection, the portion size was very generous. Overall couldn't fault the service, the manager and the people waiting tables were friendly and checked that everything was alright. Would recommend this restaurant there was a wide range of dishes to choose from on the menu, a lovely meal in lovely surroundings.

visited for lunch on Sat as it was nice and quiet amidst the mayhem of the Sat shoppers outside. The restaurant was nicely decorated and service fine. We both had burgers-very average, the chips were lacking in quantity and quality-they were soggy. As for the price of a soft drink-it was over £3 for a coke, complete rip off. Overall not impressed, and overpriced. Have lived in Chester for over 15 years and this was my first time visiting this hotel, won't be dropping in again

My sister and I had our dinner here to celebrate our parents' wedding supper on March 6, 1940. The staff were very kind and interested in our story. The food was very good and the service was excellent. We wished that there had been other folks in the restaurant to give it a bit of chattiness. We hope all goes well for this place.

First try and probably the last. Atmosphere was lacking, we were the only ones in there, although a few other tables were filled by the time we left. Although its a nice renovation from the previous incarnation, being a large square room unless its half full it's always going to feel a bit soulless. My fish coarse was tasty enough, although I am glad I ordered some bread or I would have left hungry. My partners fish coarse was meagre and lacking in flavour, although I cannot confirm this as there wasn't enough to give me a tester. Not great value overall.

We ordered room service from this restaurant. The most awful coronation chicken arrived. I asked for brown, they gave me white bread. Not a bit of raisin nor greens. It’s my favourite sandwich and I couldn’t even have the other half. It’s tasteless and it stuck to your gums. We also had the meat pizza. Not bad but not much meat. The curry was also tasteless and so was the avocado bruschetta. The best thing there was the seasonal vegetables. Loved it! Breakfast here was also good.

Got to say that this is the first time we've been in the Penny Black for several years and so we decided to call in for breakfast. Table spotless, service at bar excellent, delivery of food excellent. Breakfast consisted of bacon, sausage, hash browns, egg, beans and toast. Everything was very well cooked and tasty, the egg also had a lovely soft yolk. Also added black pudding which again was perfectly cooked. Unlimited freshly ground choice of coffee's topped off a most enjoyable breakfast.

Excellent breakfast -But that’s about as good as it gets. Random closing times. Miserable staff the draught larger is not up to standard. Not sure what this pub is trying to be.
