The Railway Ember Inn in Havering

I stayed one night here. Room was okay with clean fresh bed linen, a good bath shower area, and average facilities meant that it was on par with a premier inn. However the corridor leading to the room was in need of refurbishment, having tired looking decor, particularly the coved areas. Upstairs the corridor stunk of cigarette smoke, and it shouldn't have. From the room I could hear the very noisy bar down below. I found that the hotel/bar staff were fairly standoffish, and would not give me the room key until they had taken payment for the room. Overall I'd say it was okay, but certainly nothing special. I can't comment on the breakfast because I left fairly early, and long before they had prepared it. I believe the room rate included breakfast, and I advised them previously that I wouldn't be taking it, but no discount on the rate was ever mentioned. Overall 5/10. Would I return ? Sorry, but a big no.

I hired the Mallard Room for a surprise birthday party and did book a few months in advance. I met with Matt to make the initial booking and found him to be really accommodating and friendly, All our requests were met and staff on the night were also friendly and helpful. The venues sound limiter for our DJ meant that the music was quite low volume throughout but that’s just something to note. The buffet was excellent, yes a little pricey per head but as promised, everyone had a decent plate of food! Food is cleared after 2 hours but you can choose what time it’s served. We had a great memorable night and would highly recommend the venue for private party’s. Thanks to Matt & all the staff at The Railway

My sister and I stayed here this last weekend. I cannot fault anything, from a lovely friendly welcome at reception, to the maids who cleaned the rooms. A great, lively spot with the added bonus of a great DJ on Saturday night that played great 80s and 90s (sorry I was constantly up with requests) 😂. We had a great time. Next time we are in town, we would have no hesitation staying here again. Sue and siobhan (ireland)

Just had a meal here with my family. Great atmosphere and the food was incredible! Also have to mention the outstanding service from David. Will definitely be back.

We stayed at The Railway Hornchurch. We booked a room and a table for six for evening meal plus breakfast for Sunday. The hotel was very clean, staff were friendly and polite. Had a large menu catering for vegan and children as well. Plenty of various drinks on offer. The room was extremely clean and spacious. Facilities included tea and coffee, lovely shower and toilet. Hairdryer plenty of hanging space. Our only downside was being a Saturday night they had entertainment which we can understand but it was very loud and you could here it in the room but otherwise had a fantastic stay.

Popped in here this evening for some nibbles. Food changed as they did not have something in stock but replaced. Evening going well but our beers were flat. Went and asked for them to be change and the barnaid was extremely rude and aggressive. She poured the beer into another glass and said the beer is not the problem just the glass. I then said I don’t appreciate my beer just being poured into a new glass and asked for it to be poured again in fresh glasses. She then went and poured the drinks again but was aggressively saying the whole time not the beer but the glass. I then replied we have every right to change a beer should we think it is flat. I then went back and and about 10 minutes later the manager Matt I believe his name was then slammed £12 on our table and said after your swearing to my bar tender you can take your money and get out of the pub. Then standing there with our drinks in his hands. My husband at the time was not at the table so I felt even more threatened the way he was holding the glasses and leaning over the table as I was on my own. He just kept telling me to get out and then when my husband returned he did not even explain to my partner. Just told him he can get out too. I’m calmed my partner down as he heard the way he was talking to me. I also believe Matt had been drinking and asked him so which he obviously denied. He went a way for a bit as I said please stop antagonising the situation let me grab my bag and we will leave. As we left the pub a member of staff was winking and laughing at my husband and even the girl who I had spoken to earlier was laughing. The manager did not try to stop this. We were extremely humiliated and did not deserve any such appalling treatment. It seems you cannot say anything if your beer is flat. Matt (this was the name he said his name was) and his staff don’t want you to complain. May I also add my husband has been very unwell since returning home. Which I am hoping is not food contamination.

Went for Sunday lunch and was seated in the side room. Food was very nice and excellent portion sizes. Service was very attentive . Great for lunch

Quiz night always a good night, well organised

Friendly and cheerful staff. Good atmosphere and clean hygienic surroundings. Busy but not packed. Ordering at the bar was efficient. Good advert for Ember Inns

Came to stay the night before getting married and I couldn't have been happier! Beds are clean and comfy bathrooms are immaculate and the staff are amazing! Nicki helped us with anything we needed nothing was too be an ask. I will definitely be returning!

Stayed here for 2 nights on a trip away in the week, staff were really helpful and friendly. The rooms were nice and big, also very clean. Food and drink was great too. 10/10 would stay again.

A proper pub, as a woman would feel happy to go in on my own.

Went on a Friday night for some dinner with Family. The staff were very friendly, the food and service were superb. There was a great atmosphere as there was a live band playing.

Situated next to Hornchurch Underground Station and several bus routes this pub is easily accessible. A good range of beers/real ales. Food served throughout the day. A mix of locals and visitors. The pub is now open early for breakfasts from 10am.

The definition of pub culture. Situated in a bustling little London suburb, this place does a lot right. Rooms are spacious, and i've never seen a hotel bathroom that clean!

Candy was lovely. Polite, helpful, couldn't have done enough for us. We'll be back.

A first time visit to this notorious pub (A few years ago the Landlord was imprisoned because a customer died from food poisoning). A great atmosphere, friendly staff and later on. A pub band. All good fun We had a really good night in this lovely local.

Had a very comfortable stay here on a Saturday night a couple of weeks ago. Very helpful friendly staff. Good atmosphere in the bar area. A great breakfast using high-quality produce plus as many teas, coffees, juices you can drink included in the price. Great location. A 10 minute walk into the centre of Hornchurch were there are some great bars, etc. The V Bar is a great Nightclub doing retro music on a Saturday night! Free parking on site included, too. Excellent quality Hotel overall for a reasonable price. Highly recommended!

It was an Uber eats delivery. Some of my order was missing the steak was not as advertised and it was cold. Won't use again.

Always excellent friendly and attentive service and value for money. Slight delay on dessert, however this appeared to be an App issue, and quickly resolved by staff

First time in this pub for a charity event and was absolutely packed. service was great and would definitely go back again connor gave us a great service.

Our group, Di’s diamonds have lunch here monthly and I cannot fault how they look after us. Plus good food and reasonable prices.

First visit today for a Sunday brunch. I had the Brunch burger which I thought was tasty and a fair price which includes a variety of fruit juices and hot drinks. Menu is not as varied as some outlets but I would definitely have a brunch from an Ember Inn's pub again. Staff were very good.

Shows the England football match, when staff asked why they are no England flags they state management told them not to incase it offends people. Disgraceful behaviour yet they charge £7 for the privilege. .

We were taken great care of ny Candy and her young Indian helper who went to great lengths to ensure we had a great dining experience.

When visited, sat outside on a nice, warm & sunny day with a cold pint. Good range of beers on draft. Staff were friendly and efficient. A nice, alround atmosphere and enjoyed my visit, albeit a fairly quick one. Recommended

Only one negative, we were told when ordering the food would be about 30 mins, it was nearer to an hour we waited, due to the amount of customers. However it was definitely worth waiting for. Not one bad comment from any of our group, we all had nothing but praise for the food. Looked good, tasted delicious and was hot, so would throughly recommend. I will be visiting again.

The Railway is without doubt a fabulous pub, perfect for a quick drink with friends, a meal with the family or a night out with the girls.

Matt and his team delivered superb customer service and hospitality throughout the whole day.. couldn’t ask for a better team or Manager.

When the third person to arrive before me got served ahead of me at the bar I left. Was going to order a meal. Obviously I can't comment on how good or bad the food is.

Me and a friend come in earlier for lunch and it a lovely experience. Food was served quickly and with friendly staff (in particular, Liane and Candy). Would recommend :)

Great pub, great atmosphere and great service

Friendly, spacious pub with good atmosphere. Was served by Hannah who was very attentive with a good sense of humour.

Stayed in the Hotel single room. Room was ready on arrival which was a big plus point (1pm). Staff were very helpful and attentive, nothing was a problem and they were always on hand to help. Room was a bit too hot - and could be beneficial to have better ventilation within the room. The shower was also a bit dusty - but I assume that was because the room had been cleaned but not used in a while. Single glazing makes the room very prone to noise from the main road and trains at night- but given the location you can't be surprised.

Nice local chain pub, friendly helpful staff and for London reasonable prices.

I had my 60th birthday party in the malard room . The staff were absolutely brilliant. Food was excellent, I chose the gold buffet menu . The young lady who served behind our bar was amazing . The DJ was fantastic. The staff cleared all the mess up end of evening . Only downside was we didn't want to leave as we were having such a great night . Definitely recommend here for all your parties etc

The Railway is a great place, it’s very welcoming and Matt and all the team there make you feel at home. It has such a great atmosphere and there are always bands or DJs on at weekends. The food is amazing and the Sunday roast is next level! Look out for Hayley behind the bar as she has an amazing smile, great banter and always working her socks off.

Great food at such a reasonable price, all orders were correct as we are a fussy lot. Will def go back as we have been here about half a dozen times and all good.

Was good food and excellent value but we were disappointed that not enough time was left between table bookings so we felt rushed into leaving before the next booking arrived. We could only eat as fast as the food was served! Left a slight sour taste in what overall was a nice meal.

Took my Mum for lunch on mother's day, all our meals were lovely and the bar and restaurant staff were really nice, definitely recommend.

The Railway has been my local pub for over 14 years. Staff are always helpful and polite (special mention to Candy & Liane. Nothing is too much trouble. Also thank you to Matt and Tony for accommodating us when we reserve our table. The best pub in the area for drinks and food.

This is a short drive from the M25 and an excellent base, free parking to residents and 50yds from tube station. Very popular , need to book if U want to eat there , room was decent size. Had DJ playing on a sat night with nice atmosphere. Beer is ok but only 2 pumps had anything on and just standard ales

Booked for one night stay as had funeral day after arrived early so had Sunday lunch was beautiful compliments to chef you where quite busy but food was hot and tasty waited half hour for dessert after meal as had run out what we ordered but came out with alternative also lovely after booked in showed to room 111 which had few steps to room but was lovely double room with a tv freeview also lush shower room, tea, coffee, facility had full english breakfast morning we left lovely great nice relaxed and late checkout helped everything perfect lovely pub bar lounge area staff friendly clean don't be put off by some reviews staff work hard here it's lovely all round relaxed hotel and pub can't wait to return for longer thankyou for a lovely stay Mrs Yvonne cox

A great pub, very near Hornchurch (tube) station. This is a pub, restaurant and hotel. (There are not many hotels in Hornchurch) The place can get busy, but you can usually find a seat. This has a nice outside area which is great for summer. A recent refurb (2022) has spruced the place up nicely The food is standard Ember Inns fare. Which can be surprisingly nice.
