The Railway in Richmond upon Thames

Prawn cocktail with only 2 prawns for £14 was a disappointment. Otherwise food and service good. Atmosphere was too noisy however. With no soft furnishings to absorb noise the last thing you need is quite loud musak. Why restaurants think musak is a good idea complely defeats me.

Super lunch before taking the short train ride to Twickenham. On Saturday match days they offer a lovely set menu. i had a wonderful burrata followed by a super chicken pie. There are four choices for each course and at £40 on match day fair value. If you arrive on Monday instead you can have an incredible priced meal which seems fair to me. Our meals were accompanied by a reasonably priced bottle of Pic Pul and several nicely kept Guinnesses. The atmosphere was buzzing but not rowdy and you won’t get a walk in table on match days. This place is a hidden gem in Teddington. The food is out of this world tasty. The staff are so friendly and welcoming especially Richard. Richard adds extra warmth and charm to this pub. Try the wagyu burger is unbelievably delicious. 5 stars. Highly recommended

Popped in Friday evening as a last minute decision and managed to nab the last table, the food and service was exceptional. Ordered the chicken with raclette potatoes and rib eye steak with hand cut chips - I don’t even like onion rings but the batter was nothing less than perfection. Thank you for saving us from a dark, cold, wet February evening, oh and 2 for £15 cocktails and a roaring open fire were additional bonuses!

Weekday lunch with friends we all stuck to the normal menu. The Xmas menu looks very good. The normal set menu on Thursday was brilliant both for the taste and the price. Service really very good, wines by the glass great choice and my favourite Harveys Beer on tap. This pub restaurant is famous for its Sunday Lunches and when I asked a customer he told me we should book after Xmas as they are fantastic! Including drinks our bill between 4 was £110 Update we tried Sunday lunch Sunday 2 Feb and all 4 of us said best Sunday lunch out ever! I had lamb it was delicious the Pork was also brilliant. Its busy so book soon !!

Los cerdos en mantas eran excelentes. Los niños se lo pasaron genial y el personal y el servicio fue brillante. Tan amable y paciente. Aconsejaría reservar una mesa y disfrutar!

I took family here for my birthday lunch and we couldn’t ask for any better. Great roast boards, great service and we all have a blast. Thank you, we will be back soon.

Been twice for Sunday roast now, right up there with the best, if not a serious contender for the no.1 spot! It’s pricey, but the food is fantastic, very attentive service, can’t fault it!

Hemos estado en este restaurante muchas veces para las cenas de domingo y siempre hemos recomendado la comida y el servicio amable, sin embargo, tuvimos una experiencia realmente mala en el día del boxeo. El personal claramente no quería estar allí, los platos fueron olvidados de nuestro pedido, el servicio era lento y tuvimos que pedir platos varias veces después de la comida llegó. Cuando nos quejamos del filete que era duro, el gerente ni siquiera se disculpó y trató de culpar a la manera en que pedimos que se cocinara. Luego se la llevó y se fue a pesar de que éramos educados y tratábamos de encontrar una solución con él. Lamentablemente después de esta experiencia nunca volvería aquí de nuevo, tal lástima que han permitido que el ambiente familiar se deslice.

Visited a few times before but this was with friends before the rugby at Twickenham. Unlike other restaurants in and around the Twickenham area, this place does NOT exploit the rugby fan diner by offering hugely inflated prices for below-average dishes. There was a good and varied choice for pre-order and the quality was excellent - the place was extremely busy with pre-match diners but staff were extremely attentive and efficient - thank you. Excellent value for money and highly recommended.

Highly recommend the ultimate roast, food was superb! Portions were large , we had to take some of the food away. Went with my two dogs and sat outside in their patio, which was heated but used as a smoking/ waiting area for pple yet to be seated. Next time, we will book a table indoors.

We were a very large work Christmas party but I was very impressed with the quality of food and such great attentive service considering the large party.

We didn't have a booking for a Sunday roast, but they kindly squeezed us in despite being very busy. The roast was really nice. I've not enjoyed a roast as much for a long time. The staff were very accommodating and were nice enough to substitute custard instead of ice cream with my pudding despite it not being on the menu. Overall, it was a nice warm environment, lovely food and very accommodating service. Thanks!

Had dinner Saturday evening with my sister, brother in law, husband and two friends. The food and the service was absolutely amazing. We were booked in at 7 pm we was not rushed a relaxing evening and the railway was very busy. I would recommend this place to anyone 10 / 10 for this place. Definitely will return.

I have enjoyed the always brilliant weekday lunch set menu at The Railway so many times I've lost count! I must have taken all my friends there and they all ask to return when they visit Teddington. The menu changes daily, the choice is always excellent and it's always great value. I finally had a chance to have Sunday lunch at The Railway. What a treat! A friend and I enjoyed a superb Sunday roast (chicken) that was absolutely delicious and came with a generous helping of a variety of veg and roast potatoes. It was a perfect winter feast. Don't hesitate to go - but Sundays are very popular so make sure you book!

We booked at short notice on-line and when we got there the booking had not come through.This was dealt with superbly and we were allocated a table. the food and service were superb! We moved to the area in May and have been searching for our favourite pub. We have now found it! Love this place! From the warm welcome to a fond farewell, everything was top class.

Bit expensive on rugby days but can't fault the food service.

The sunday roast was DEVINE! We opted for the beef sharing platter (filet and sirloin) and it was cooked to perfection and just so much food! Everything on the plate was delicious and the service was amazing! I didnt get our waiters name to specifically thank him but rhe gent serving table 33 on sunday at 1pm - THANK YOU! Would 100% recommend and 100% coming back!

Lo visité con mi nieto (¡Quién es un buen comedor!) Él tenía el cordero y yo la carne asada. La carne fue cocinada a la perfección - ambos elegimos medio raro. (nos preguntaron cómo nos gustaría que se cocinara antes de pedir) La verdura... una zanahoria... una chirivía en cada plato con un tamaño de cucharadita de col... una patata asada cortada por la mitad. Yorkshire estaba perfectamente cocinado. Gravy era económico - por lo que pedimos una olla extra - sin embargo, era muy sabroso. Mientras disfruto de mis verduras “al dente” la zanahoria estaba cruda... El servicio decepcionó este lugar - nos sentamos con bebidas vacías durante bastante tiempo y el personal de servicio no preguntó si nos gustaría pedir más. (Agradezco que siempre está ocupado, en cualquier lugar para el almuerzo del domingo), pero nuestros platos tampoco se recogieron cuando habíamos terminado claramente. Numerosos empleados pasaron junto a nuestra mesa, todos ellos mirando a nuestros platos terminados y ninguno de ellos los abrió camino. Nos sentamos durante bastante tiempo, esperando y esperando - para que se despejaran para que pudiéramos pedir postres y más bebidas. Al final, llamé la atención de un miembro del personal que pasaba y le pedí la factura. No nos alojamos para postres o más bebidas.

Not sure what the buzz about this place is. Monkfish was overcooked, and the sausage and mash was okay, nothing special. The female front of staff seemed pretty disillusioned with her job. We were a table of four and had a booking from 3pm to 5pm. She clearly wanted us to order food quicker because despite us drinking she decided to put the placard for the next reservation at 5pm on the middle of the table at 3:30pm, before walking off. For front of house, that's really poor.

Third time going for Sunday Roast. Always impressive display, delicious food, great service, good atmosphere. I scored it a 4 as am not overly fond of their roast potatoes(too dry for me) but that is a preference, also my Affogato was served in a large bowl and by time I got the expresso my ice-cream was partially melted.

We came for the Sunday roast sharing platter. The food was really incredible! Hence we were so disappointed with the service following our meal. Our booking was for 1 hour 45 mins, after we finished food, they brought us the bill and we paid. We hadn't even finished our drinks and they were cleaning the table (with us sat there). They checked whether we'd paid, cleaned the table TWICE more whilst we sat there and as we were putting our coats on they started laying the table again. Could they not have waited 30 seconds? We left earlier than we wanted to because the staff made us feel so uncomfortable. We hadn't even been 1.5 hours and no one was waiting for a table. I wish we could ask for a service charge refund! So disappointing as the food had been amazing, but we left feeling really angry given how rude the staff were. We had been forced out despite being well within our booking time and no one waiting. Did not feel like a welcoming atmosphere at all.

Fantastic roast dinner, cosy pub and great atmosphere.

We had the "Ultimate Roast" for three people shared amongst the four of us. It was more than enough, the beef and lamb were cooked perfectly as was the pork, the chicken was somewhat dry but breast meat usually is. The restaurant was at capacity and the staff did an amazing job getting our drinks and food orders to us in a timely manner.

Quality of food has really gone downhill, and more to the point management never accept responsibility for mistakes. When asking for problems to be corrected, the manager always offers an excuse. He needs to realise that sometimes the customer has a valid reason to complain. He has an air of arrogance and accepts no accountability. As for the rest of the staff, I cannot fault them.

Fantastic place. More of a restaurant than a bar. But it was nice to sit in for a few pints and £5 margarita's.

Fantastic evening at the Railway-Mexican theme evening. Great food and the staff were incredible. A genuinely great time. Staff are friendly and the atmosphere is relaxed and vibrant. I have become a regular here for sometime. Always feel like I am at home and somewhere special at the same time. I have to highlight the service from the management as spot on. In particular Alana always makes me and my family feel like there is nowhere else we would want to be...when experiencing a warm, friendly and individual time . Popped in for a drink from the train before moving onto a dinner reservation elsewhere. Ordered two drinks of which one was a glass of wine. Upon trying, it was not to my taste as it was an oaked wine. Asked a female member of the team if I could change it and was abruptly told ‘No I won’t change it if you aren’t paying!’ And then proceeded to walk away before even hearing my reply. At no point did I ask to change the wine for free so I would recommend some customer service training and listening to the customers response as the attitude was completely unnecessary and she would have understood I was happy to pay for a replacement if she had those customer service skills and was able to put these into practice! Upon changing it at the bar as my partner still had his drink, to over hear her telling the team ‘DO NOT CHANGE IT!’ just adds to the lack of professionalism she has!

Staff are so lovely in this pub. The food is delicous and service is very prompt. Would recommend this pub all. Phil was an amazing server too!

I’ve just had my third Sunday lunch in the space of a month…. The food is really good, nice wine list, great cocktails. The family pooch is welcome too….. definitely on the ‘must return’ list….just waiting for a loyalty card 😉

5* food, 5* service! Party of 21 people for any restaurant is always difficult but The Railway Teddington had everything under control! The food was unbelievably tasty and could not recommend this place enough! It is the best roast I have eaten out by far, everything was full of flavour from the juicy chicken, the creamy cabbage and peas, the cheesy cauliflower, the soft crispy potatoes, the breaded parsnips and not forgetting the lovely carrots stuffing and scotch egg! Other family members who had the lamb and nut roast were also very happy with the food. Highly recommend the roast sharing platter! Definitely will be returning, thanks again for a great Sunday roast!

Teddington is fortunate to have a wide variety of places for a traditional Sunday lunch, and we have tried a good number. The Railway is however simply the best Sunday lunch to be had in Teddington. Faultless.

We went here for Sunday lunch today on a recommendation from a friend. To start with the restaurant/pub is spotless & the staff are really friendly & polite. We both had the roast beef which was to die for, cooked perfectly & presented so well. We can’t wait to go back, which I’m being told will be next Sunday. Also a great atmosphere. Update: 04-08-24 After going here for many years, the food is always so good & a great selection of wines. Steak & Mussel night on a Thursday, you have to try it to see how amazing it is. We really can’t fault The Railway. Richard always has a smile on his face & is always welcoming & Sarah is just great fun.

Absolutely love this place. A little quieter spot in the fabulous area of Teddington. Always recommend ordering a special off their menu! Portion sizes are VERY generous. Cocktails are well made and good value. P.S Please bring back the Bread and Butter pudding!

A cheeky lunch with my son after he returned from a couple of weeks away. He had the sausage and mash and I had the burger and fries. It was a generous portion and really filled me up. We sat downstairs by one of the open windows. I do like this place.

Normally would give the Railway a 5/5 but the food has gone a little downhill. Portion sizes are noticeably smaller than over a year ago as they are clearly cutting corners. Still one of the best Sunday roasts around, but they are slipping and total value for money has gone down a step. Service upstairs is better than downstairs and bar staff can be hit or miss.

Great roast dinners and they do a sharing board for a roast which is great for 3-4 of you. Staff welcoming, nice atmosphere and always fairly busy. Pre book.

First time visit for all of us as a party of four. We ordered the Ultimate platter with an extra portion. One of the best and maybe even the best roast dinners I’ve ever had and everyone agreed. Perfectly cooked, great quality and delicious flavourings. A tad expensive but worth the extra for a great meal. Will be returning.

Best roast dinner I’ve had in a while. Pork belly was perfection and the cracking was 10/10. Gravy was to die for and the potatoes were crispy yet soft in the middle. Lamb was also tasty and so was the beef. Will definitely be back. Staff are lovely too! Desserts were sublime we had apple crumble and the brownie special ! Perfect level of sweetness.

Went during the 2 for 1 cocktails time and it got busy very quick. Cocktails were good but not strong. After several I did not feel remotely tipsy. Food was good and served on huge plates. I had the lamb main and it served as a nice small dinner. Quite expensive for a pub but had a nice time.

Really love this spot, great for the kids and food is great. Also fab choices for beer and wine. Staff always friendly and accommodating with the children

Recently had dinner, great service , food menu offered good variety. Our starters and mains were amazing. Highly recommend.

A very disappointing first & last visit, we didn't end up dining there. On arrival, we were shown 2 tables, neither of which had our or anybody else's name on it, even though we had reserved the table a few days before. Shortly after being seated, we were asked to move! The regulars wanted their table. My son's were not happy & insisted we remain at the table. a discussion ensued between us & the regulars. It was starting to escalate, so I told my sons we were leaving. The staff at no point came to intervene to try & sort out the mess. Extremely poor behaviour by people who clearly think they are entitled. It just left us with a bitter experience, & nearly spoiled the evening. I will certainly not be visiting again. We ended up at The Tide & proceeded to have a lovely meal, with knowledgeable & pleasant staff. The management need to provide much needed training for their staff or I should say the ones who were there on this day.

We just stopped here to eat something before catching the train (perfect location for that!). The food was excellent, very much above what you normally would expect for a pub. Good portion sizes and the food looks beautiful too! Standard selection of a couple of ales. Very friendly service and an enjoyable pub overall!

We booked for meal after movie. A very warm welcome. Lovely atmosphere with tables outside In good weather. A small but varied menu. Food served hot and good quality. Quite busy but staff very attentive. A little more expensive than some main Chain restaurants but well worth the Extra. The Pear and Apple crumble was Particularly good.

Can’t rate The Railway enough. The place is light and airy, the Sunday Roast was incredible, the service was RAPID and the staff were so friendly and attentive. I can’t wait to return. I’ve already recommended it to a few friends and family. Best roast in and around Hampton / Teddington by a country mile!!

Food portions are big. Mulles Marines were delicious. A bit expensive and the food served too late.

Wonderful steaks night on thursdays and sharing Sunday roasts

I love the railway for a Sunday roast it’s always the best food. My most recent visit was a bit disappointing as we ordered a nut roast sharing platter (which I’ve done before) it was £60 so £30 per plate. We had a slice of nut-roast and a bit each, Yorkshire pudding each, a dish of vegetables to share and 6 small potatoes which before cut equates to a potato and a half. In hindsight we should have just ordered two separate plates at £20 rather than a sharer at an extra £20, on this occasion it’s wasn’t good value for money.

Really lovely mother's day roast!

The Railway is always a nice place for me to catch up on work after a long day, which I did today (6/3/24), however when I came in this evening there appeared to be a wait before myself and another gentleman were served - was about 20:47 this evening - after some 5 minutes we were served. Later in the evening, as staff were upstairs closing the upper levels a gentleman walked in (wearing a white lakers cap) and helped himself to a loads of dog treats before exiting the pub. It is still a lovely local haunt for me, but staff at times appear disinterested in their roles and it’s appears to be rushed as closing time approaches - that last orders call which we all dread, seems too alter some nights.

We had such a lovely dinner here, nice atmosphere and good service. The menu has interesting variations on gastro pub classics plus great sharing plates and daily specials. Generous portions and great quality.

Just back from Sunday lunch. What an experience from being seated to being served and obvious the food. 10 out of 10 plus. It’s been along time since I’ve been somewhere where the beautiful food matched the top service. A lovely man named Richard seated us explained the menu and went beyond. I shall be back. Have been here five or six times now for. a rugby lunch, have never been disappointed. Always good food wine beer and service, and always a good atmosphere. Just hope they don't get overbusy.

We visited for Sunday lunch today, having searched online for the best local roast (we are not local, just visiting) and the reviews were not wrong. Genuinely the best roast we have ever had. We had the vegan sharing roast, my daughter and I both have dairy and egg allergies and the staff could not have been more attentive with it. The food was absolutely amazing, not a soggy vegetable or chewy potato in sight!! Every member of staff we spoke to was happy, friendly and polite despite the fact you could clearly see they were rushed off their feet. The restaurant was packed at all times. You definitely won't get in without a booking but it is 100% worth booking for. We would probably travel from Southampton just to come back for a roast here again

Pub directly by Teddington Station. Serves some lovely beer (eg Harvey's Best). Food is excellent - the place has great theme nights several days each week. Atmosphere is a bit 'gastro' rather than tradional pub. There are small outdoor areas to sit and a first floor dining room.
