Went for Sunday Lunch , menu a bit sparse but food very nice , staff very helpful and pleasant.clean and nice surroundings, lovely to sit out in the gardens with a nice drink.

Once again we had dinner here.Have never been dissapointed . Food and service super.Cannot fault this eatery.Thanks to all the staff.

What can I say but wow , we have just been recently for our friends 70th Birthday, as always the food and service were amazing, the staff are always welcoming and friendly, such a lovely place to go with friends or family, the food is fantastic, I would highly recommend.

We stayed on the motorhome pitches at the rear of the property hence no rating for rooms. The Rag was very welcoming and the area for motorhomes was a pretty little area with EHU, toilets and showers @ £25/night. Pitches were well spaced out and the only downside was the toilet and shower facility which wasn't cleaned and had overflowing bins. We ate at the restaurant and this definitely got a five star review. There was a two for £45 menu - two courses for two people including a bottle of wine. The menu was lovely and there was plenty of choice. Food was delicious and staff were lovely.

Came here for a midweek evening meal. I had booked in advance, which was a good idea as it was very busy. The staff were friendly and attentive, can't fault them. They have a 2 dine for £45 offer on in midweek and it is good value for money, with 2 courses each and a bottle of wine. We went for items off the main menu though. Portions are massive, we couldn't finish our mains. The food is amazing though and it was all piping hot. All in all a nice little place and worth a visit.

My family and I, totalling 9 guests, ate at the Rag on Sunday for a joint Father's Day/60th birthday celebration meal Our food orders were taken very quickly by friendly staff, however there was some confusion around what vegan options were available. After deliberation amongst staff, we were advised that 2 options were available: cottage pie or a burger For my starter I opted for the deep fried brie; the starter was very tasty and enjoyable. Unlike the other starters at the table, my portion size was plentiful. Others opted for the soup and squid; the soup bowls were half full, and there were only 4 tiny pieces of squid on the plate For my main meal I chose the turkey. The basic portion size was plentiful, and there were sides of cheesy leeks and other potatoes/veg to choose from. The cheesy leeks were lovely! Overall, the mains were great but a few of us commented that the food tasted quite salty - I'm not sure if this was the gravy There were so many dessert options it was hard to choose. In the end I opted for the Ferrero Rocher cheesecake with ice cream - again, the portion size was good and the dessert was enjoyable. The other desserts looked lovely, but unfortunately one of our group was left out as there were no vegan dessert options at all apart from ice cream. This was disappointing Overall, I did enjoy my visit to the Rag and I would come here again to try more of the food. Sadly, due to the lack of vegan options I wouldn't overly recommend the restaurant if you're looking for a good vegan meal

Went for a taster menu, and it was amazing thanks to Steff Benny and all the staff. The service was impeccable and friendly and well organised. The food was excellent and tasted lovely and well presented. Would definitely recommend a visit to this eatery.

Had a meet up with Mum and brother as it was 1st anniversary of Dad's passing. Have eaten there twice before in past years,and enjoyed it. Brother loved the stroganoff,veggies lovely.Mums couldn't eat the duck,tough and rubbery,left it. Did tell the staff,not much reaction..shame really..puds were nice.

Sunday lunch today, this is how all pub dining should be, the tastiest food I have had for years, nice atmosphere and excellent staff, go on, you know you want to !

Not stayed popped in for beer reasonable price

Just had dinner with some friends. Food amazing! Baked camenbert & prawns for starters, then salmon Wellington, tomahawk pork chop & beef pie was all demolished & enjoyed. Sherry trifle & baileys creme brulee finished off a wonderful meal 😋

I have been to the rag many times and always had a good experience but tonight we sat in the bar area, no crackers on the table ……service was very slow ( maybe as we sat in the bar area ) our table was booked at 7.15 & we left at 10.15 ……food was lovely but didn’t seem to be a lot of it.

Every visit the food has been outstanding!! The menu is changed regularly and offers a brilliant choice of starters, mains and desserts to die for.

Really enjoyed my meal here, good veggie options, the starter (tin loaf I think it was called) was actually insane how nice it was!!! I fully enjoyed all my courses, and the staff were super friendly and helpful, I know they were busy but still had so much time to help you out.

We attended as part of a large group and when 3 members of the party were unable to join us at short notice, this was dealt with very well. The staff were extremely helpful and accommodating when the orders and bill needed to be divided into 3 groups. The food was delicious and plentiful. Sincere thanks.

Underwhelmed and disappointed. Food was mediocre and overpriced. The steak was as tough as old boots. Most of the staff were friendly with the exception of one who seemed to make it her mission to make us feel uncomfortable when asking anything about the menu. We will not be returning and not recommending it to family and friends

Visited the Rag for a belated birthday meal for my friends 30th. Food was delicious and we were served quickly. When we wanted to pay the bill, we hadn't seen anyone in a while and nobody had advised us and other tables that we then had to pay at the bar. I went to the Bar to pay, but had to wait around 15 minutes to pay as the Bar area was busy. I don't think it's very good that the Restaurant staff leave without advising that there will be nobody around to then bring your bill, so you're able to pay and leave.

Visited today for Sunday Lunch. The meal was delicious, staff were friendly and the service was excellent. Will definitely return, such a lovely find. Thankyou

The food was ok but not brilliant I’m afraid , we had to ask for another bowl of chips as the one they bought out was just all the crispy ends from the fryer , we used to regularly go here years ago and it was a very special place but went a few years ago and it wasn’t a good experience but after seeing reviews that looked ok we tried it again . Initially when walked in the lady with the booking in diary was with another customer , no problem , but there were 2 other members of staff behind the bar who didn’t even acknowledge us , when the previous customer moved away the lady didn’t look up she just said Name , I didn’t know she was talking to me , she then said Name again without looking up at us , I said are you talking to me ? Yes she said , ticked us off and led us to table , the waitress came who was very nice took our order no problem but I’d asked her about gluten free options for a future visit she said she’d find out and come back with info , she didn’t ! We weren’t asked for more drinks through the meal and the table next to us decided to walk out and go elsewhere for some reason too ! Like I say the food was ok and it’s a shame because it is a lovely setting , the problem was really the staff , probably not their fault they were all quite young and I feel that maybe they just hadn’t been trained properly ? Unfortunately we won’t go back

Very popular restaurant with older generation and much better that the usual chain pub restaurants. Home made quality food served by very professional waitresses in a very nice environment. Great menu, so many impressive options but couldn’t resist home made steak mushroom and Stilton pie but all meals looked very nice in deed. Good beer too, an excellent lunchtime experience, thank you,

Lovely place with good food and friendly service

Lovely little campsite, excellent, very clean, other campers very friendly. Very friendly pub with excellent service and very tasty meals. Really good local walks and castle ring minutes away by foot. A must place to visit.

We were pleasantly greeted, and shown to our table Our drinks order taken while we looked through the menu, for the starter I chose the Sautéed Mushrooms, my wife chose cheesy garlic bread, for our mains I had the slow roast pork belly, my wife chose the Steak, Ale, Mushroom & Stilton Pie, which were both delicious, What I like about this restaurant is that no children are allowed, so you can have a meal in piece without kids running around with slices of pizza in their hands

Met up with friends who live local to the Rag on a Saturday night. We were warmly welcomed and taken to our pre-booked table, staff were friendly and attentive, most tables were occupied. There was a good selection of meals on offer, reasonably priced. Our starters were delicious and portion sizes generous. Our mains were also well cooked ( duck, roast cod and meat pie) with lovely flavours which enhanced the meal to a different level. I would definitely try this pub if you are in the area.

This restaurant has come up in the world. The food we had yesterday was excellent. Short rib was melt in the mouth and the steak done medium rare just what I asked for. Will definitely be back.

Lovely find and lovely food, just what we needed as a mid point on our travels. Very gluten free knowledgeable which was refreshing.. we all had a burger and I could not fault it except for the non GF person had theirs served on a board with a sheet of parchment, this got soggy fast and had to be removed. Nevertheless it was a lovely find and would recommend it, glad we did it over a service stop!

What a fantastic place. Went here at the spur of the moment and ended up stopping all night. Staff were very friendly, tent outside with a group playing. There's also an outside bar and a pizza/burger shack. There were no chavs / trouble at all. Good food and good prices. Just bare in mind, it's a dog friendly pub. But we had no problem with it

We stayed over for the night in our motorhome! Lovely, quiet spot! Loos and showers could do with a bit of a tweak, but apart from that lovely place!

Yet again, another lovely meal. Staff were very attentive and friendly, and the service was impeccable. The food was excellent and hot. And the portion sizes were very good. Just remember that you have to normally book as they do get very busy.

we have visited the rag many times its one of our favourite restaurants, so we chose to have my 50th birthday meal here. Our group of 12 were seated in an exclusive area between restaurant and the bar as requested ,food was served in a timely manner and was the usual high standard. All in our group commented how good the food and service was and everyone had a great evening. Once again The Rag done us proud.

This pub is amazing, I would definitely, positively go again x my husband and I went there for meal to celebrate our wedding anniversary and the food was superb we both had the seafood dish and it was amazing x the dessert I had was the chocolate and raspberry teardrop it's a dessert I would highly recommend to anyone x this is a type of pub were it has friendly staff in the bar and in the restaurant x it has plenty of parking x and it is in a quiet location x I would advise booking a table x I would honestly recommend this pub wether it's for a drink with friends or a meal x

Booked an evening meal for 2 and was not disappointed. Both starters were tasty the goats cheese and red onion tart in filo pastry was delicious and much larger than expected. For mains we both chose steak and ale pie with creamy mash, chips and Al dente veg. The pie was huge and probably the best I'd ever tasted. Friendly staff and excellent service. We'll definitely be returning. Excellent wheelchair accessfrom car park and inside. Easily able to get wheelchair under the table . Thank you

Stayed for 2 nights about 3 weeks ago. Can't fault any aspect. Lovely location, food excellent and all the staff very friendly and nothing too much trouble. Can thoroughly recommend it.

I'm not sure what has happened to the rag over the last 12 months but I rang up to ask, on a lovely sunny day, if there is any food available outside and the response is a blunt 'no', that was enough for me to spend my money elsewhere. Our last 3 visits have been met with strange customer service and responses when food is involved, where it used to be so easy to eat in the bar or outside and now unless you are booked in the restaurant and you want food, you might as well have two heads, to the point where we now won't go.

Went for Sunday lunch and was very surprised. Great service,and in the main the food was excellent. The starter of mushroom in filo pastry was not great. Too much balsamic which swamped the food. The roast dinners were superb. Lovely atmosphere and a good price. Will go again.

Beautiful location and the food was amazing. The service didn't match. Took ages to get someone's attention and we seemed to get a trainee who was very willing and very lovely just didn't have a clue. Overall very good and service is fixable

Great visit to this pub.We all had the 2 courses and bottle of wine for £45. Great Value. The food quality and portions were good,didn’t have to wait to long for it either. Good drink choice and friendly staff. Definitely recommend, we eat out at lots of different venues but would only choose to return to a few and this would be one of them.

Oh dear.. 15/4/23 a friend and I visited for lunch. The 'restaurant' was practically empty. However, a few minutes after being seated two customers were put at a table right next to ours..? Crab salad starter (£9.95) was plentiful and well presented. Seafood had clearly been frozen. The small amount of cheap bread had been 'shown' butter. Shoulder of lamb - £17 (very fatty/cheap cut)..looked and tasted as if it had been warmed up in microwave. 1 processed roast potato and a small amount of luke warm veg in another dish. My friend had the 'Lobster' Linginue. Again appeared to be microwaved and no real evidence of genuine Lobster. However a few Cray fish put in to accompany the 'absent' Lobster. Unsurprisingly, the service was quick; (As microwaves are).. We were asked twice (by two different (disinterested) members of staff how our meals were? Twice I didn't answer (but let the second person know we'd been asked).. Verdict - Tasteless, overpriced and extremely poor value for money rubbish!

The quality of raw ingredients and the way they are cooked is beautiful. However it was a real shame that there was a distinct lack of flavour in the meal. Cod in parma ham with a thermador sauce and asparagus. The Parma ham could have been fish skin. It was tasteless. The thermidor sauce also was just a colourful sauce but with no flavouring whatsoever. Such a shame as with decent flavouring it could have been so much better.

Fantastic Sunday dinner to top off a long walk around Cannock Chase. Highly recommend this place. Very tasty. 😋 And dog friendly 2. 🐶

Great value for money. Friend of ours use this place quite regularly. However it’s a bit out of the way so we often forget about the place. I am so glad we went last week. The food was terrific. 2 courses and a bottle of wine for 2 people £45! You really can’t fault it. I had the mushrooms in a filo nest, little bit confused with the crispy onions on it but other than that it was lovely. My husband had the prawn cocktail. Large prawns and plenty of them. We had a pan fried cod in lobster sauce and a steak. The veg was cooked to perfection and piping hot. Chips were hot and crispy. There was no way at all we could eat dessert! Wine was really good too. You get quite a decent choice, out of the reds it was Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon or Malbec. The Cab Sauv was great no complaints at all. Just writing this is making me want to pick the phone up and book again. Only complaint is…… you’ve got to book, even in a quiet night.

Went for a mid week meal. There was a choice off a menu, or a fixed price meal, two courses and a bottle of wine for £45. Could not go wrong with either choice really well presented and tasty and good value for money we had the fixed price meal for £45 no hesitation to recommend this venue for a quiet relaxing meal for two or a family meal.

Had set menu for 2 on Tuesday to Friday £45 starter and main or main and desert plus a bottle of wine good variety to choose from definitely recommend
