We called in at the Raddle on the way home from North Wales as we had been there before when on holiday nearby a couple of years ago. We wanted to break our journey and have a good lunch. My memory was of a delicious puff pastry topped steak and ale pie in a deep pie dish with lots of meat. I had it this time and it was fabulous as I remembered it. I asked for boiled potatoes instead of chips which was no problem. Vegetables on the side were good too. My partner had the chicken roast dinner and was very happy. We had reserved a table online the day before and dogs are allowed in part of the pub but not all areas for those who might not want dogs around at meal time. I cannot understand the poor reviews on here that I have seen. Almost seems like they are reviewing a different place. I have enjoyed the replies the manager has sometimes made, telling a rather different side to the story! We will definitely be back. The table buzzer system to get service worked very well for us and we left a tip.

Excellent pub grub. Large portions. Dog friendly. It’s not Michelin starred so be realistic in your expectations. Really nice place for a family meal. Good play area for young kids

The Raddle inn , is an old School pub? It’s an old School venue The people are fantastic and friendly the food is home-cooked and fresh. The accommodation is quirky, but clean and comfortable. We stayed there overnight for a trip to Alton Towers. If you are expecting modern and contemporary, this is not the place for you. The food was amazing. There was five of us and none of us were unhappy, The breakfast in the morning was perfect in every way and the cost was exceptional. I will definitely stay again, and thank you for the team for looking after us.

Our second visit,we stayed in daisy cottage this time, last time the rookery both are equally lovely in there own way,on both occasions the staff were all helpful & welcoming.the food is lovely & plentiful, good value for the quality. I'd recommend the mushroom 🍲 it wasn't the soup of the day but I'd mentioned how much I'd enjoyed it the last visit & the lovely lady on the bar made me a cup full of fresh mushroom soup❤️ I'd definitely recommend the raddle Inn,little out the way,but so worth it for the views

Huge portions of food, which would’ve been great if the food was good. Unfortunately it wasn’t. My son, who usually eats anything couldn’t eat his very dry beef burger in a very dry bread bun. I had a large Yorkshire pudding filled with sausage and gravy, the Yorkshire was soggy and cold. Sadly we won’t be returning.

Usually a lovely meal here but was not nice, steak in the pie was not edible as so chewy, burger and chips came with literally 4 chips on, kids didn't touch their food was all round disappointing and quite overpriced for what we was served, The serving staff were also very uninterested.

Went there yesterday 16/08/23 now I've been a few times and had nothing bad to say but yesterday the food was terrible I ordered the roast lamb in a giay yourkshire pudding the Yorkie was soggy there was a massive piece of raw broccoli and the rest was bland! My partner had a fish and chips the fish batter was soggy so clearly not cooked fresh and considering it was pretty empty when we got there there's no excuse not to go it fresh which it clearly wasn't the chips looked like they'd been shown the fryer and stuck on the plate moat of which were still hard, all in all very disappointing for what was usually a nice place to eat

It looked very promising from the outside. Beautiful views, play area and bouncy castle for the kids and a traditional looking interior. It took 3 requests to get an order taken by one of the many waiting staff, despite using the Order buzzer system they have going on. The front of house member of staff was vacant and needed some serious training in customer service. The food came in good time which was one positive. I ordered the Salmon and Parsley sauce dish, the salmon was so over cooked, dry and inedible. When the waitress checked back I told her it was really bad, she asked if I wanted another one but I said I would just eat the veg and potatoes instead which were okay. There was no apology, no offer to take it off the bill and she seemed to not care very much at all! Would not recommend, unless you are just going for a drink to take in the lovely views.

Stopped here on way back to holiday cottage from Alton Towers, we were impressed with the large portions and amount of meat in dishes! 4 adults and 2 children including drinks came to £74. Steak and Ale Pie yummy with lots of steak! We had a good experience and returned a few nights later. Food and service wasn't as good, but still great value for money and everyone enjoyed the meal. There is a games room with pool table and games and darts, a bouncy castle outside with a tree play area and amazing views of the country side! They also do lodges which would make a great stay for alton towers and have food to hand immediately before or after with no hassle as they serve all day.

Served at the bar straight away considering it was a warm sunny day! Some staff were smiley whereas others miserable, assumed they were just rushed. Lots of options on menu including for vegetarians. The food came out after ten mins of ordering (never a good sign considering how busy it was). My partners food was tasteless, claimed McDonald’s do a better version. I had beef lasagne what basically was more like baby food with minuscule mince pondering at the bottom of the dish after you had fought your way through the white sauce and mush pasta sheets. Salad was out of a bag with a few tomatoes and cucumbers thrown on top. Chips were homemade but still tasteless. A steak pie also was ordered but again veg overcooked, pie was more like tinned dog food. Clearly all the food was microwaved and this confirmed the rumours I had heard that it genuinely is microwaved. Shame really! Would I go back to eat? Definitely not. Maybe cut down options on the menu and focus on creating the dishes to be tasty and delicious without use of a microwave? Just a thought. For example: Two steak pie options? Only difference is a puff pasty lid or shortcrust? Just pick one pie and focus on it. Pub itself, the decor could do with updating, lick of paint maybe but superb location with lovely views. Plenty of space to run around for children. Bouncy castle right at the front entry not such a great idea. All just seemed rushed.

We went here for a meal, whilst also staying in the cabins on site. We were really excited to give the place a go, as my friends had been here before and said how beautiful the surroundings are. They arrived an evening before us and went for a meal in the pub, having a good meal and booking a table for the evening after for us to join them. On arrival my friends, my partner and I were seated indoors, despite booking a pod, one was not reserved for us. Moving on and not letting the pubs first mistake dampen the spirits of the evening, we ordered our meals and some wine. A hen do was sat next to us and we got chatting across the tables and bought them some congratulatory drinks. Our starters arrived and all was well, although when buying the hen do a round of drinks we offered to get the waiter one too for himself, to which he replied 'I can not, I'm 15' - legally he can not serve drinks either, so I'm unsure how management have overlooked this. Once the mains arrived we were one main meal short, after waiting some 10 minutes we requested to speak to the manager to ask where the other meal was - to which we had an abruptly rude man respond 'what do you want' he turns out to be the manager. We asked for the meal we ordered to which he began to become threatening, accusing of 'our noise' causing others to leave - yet not mentioning a word to the loud hen do next to us, who he continued to flirt with. It was very evident we were being singled out, made even clearer by the manager when he made a homophobic slur, called my friend 'a slag' and told us 'that's what's wrong with you city folk' when we asked for the meal we ordered. He continued to intimidate my friend and got physically violent with her partner, squaring up to him and pushing him out of the restaurant. I do not understand how someone who very obviously has issues with welcoming guests who are not locals is running a business with both lodgings and a pub. The rest of the staff were lovely, they were extremely apologetic for their managers disgusting and shameful behaviour; which even they could plainly see was unacceptable. If you're wanting to enjoy a meal and a pleasant evening without being threatened, judged, singled out and verbally abused I suggest staying clear of here.

I’m not one to write reviews ever, especially if I’ve had not a great experience, as usually it’s just little things, and writing it seems petty, but honestly this was just a horrible experience! My boyfriend wanted to surprise me, a weekend away here, as it’s special to us, as this is the first place we went together when we first started dating, just before the first lockdown. It’s a shame, cause after what has happened, we’re 100% never going back to this place ever again. The first night it was just us, had a nice meal at the pub. No issues. However, the second night, my best friend came with his boyfriend, we were excited to go to the pub, we’ve raved about their food before hand, really talking them up. But clearly, as soon as we got in, my friends were singled out, at it seems very clearly because of their sexuality to be honest. Firstly we were sat right next to a group of women on a hen do, so we got chatting to them, had a lovely chat with them, my friend got them all drinks. Then about 15 minutes later, we were told very rudely basically to shut up by the manger, however he proceeded to butter up the women next to us on their hen do. So I was confused straight away, if you want this Saturday evening to be so quite, why let someone have a hen do here? Anyway, so we stopped talking to the lovely women, the vibe was definitely a bit awkward. My boyfriend ended up not getting his food at all. We asked for the manger and he said very rudely “what do you want” we asked for his meal. And things very quickly escalated where my friend and his boyfriend were being picked out, the manger nameCalling us saying “that’s what’s wrong with you city folks” I look Up to find him towering over me, being confrontational with me, trying to intimidate me, and actually called me a slag. So my boyfriend obviously stuck up for me, which then things escalated even more to physical violence being threatened by the manager and my boyfriend, me crying, my friends completely insulted, paying for a meal and two bottles of wine that were not eaten/drank. £140, to be chased out of the pub essentially, intimidated, insulted and name called. Woke up there feeling very anxious, and just wanting to leave as soon as we could. I’ve never experienced anything like this, was truly horrible. I wanna say this is not on the staff at all, they were lovely, the one girl bless her kept apologising to me for him. I feel sorry they have to work for him. Defo go somewhere else to stay in this beautiful area though, I don’t recommend it here.

Arrived having booked a pod online, was told we were booked in, but not in a pod, however told not a problem because one available. Coolish night and upon entry was told the lights and heating would be put on shortly. Eventually after asking 3 times (25 minutes later) behold we had light, the heater was broken, asked a waiter if I could take one from a vacant pod and was told I could do it myself if I needed it. Food and drink service was good, food was average Overall disappointing experience

The cabin was paper thin, could probably hear a feather dropping. The bar/restaurant staff were rude. Girl with glasses and dark hair didn’t speak a word, ill mannered and ignored us. Food was basic. Rather dry and plain so didnt eat much, still resulted in a £100 bill and a tip for the bad service. Returned cabin keys and were rushed and shooed out.

I’ll start with the positives, the location and views are lovely, lots of outside space with plenty of seating. A bouncy castle for the kids and room for a kick about. But... we booked the week before, but on arrival they had no record of our booking. We were eventually seated, but moved as the table location was awful. Found a nice table with a view, but the roast dinner was terrible and the turkey looked like it had been hacked at, not carved and cold.We might call in for a drink if we were passing, but definitely not for food!

We booked this in advance requesting to be seated next to a heater. The heaters were off. When we asked if one could be switched on. They tried(2 staff members) but couldn't do it. I was freezing. I suffer from Raynauds so this was very uncomfortable and a little painful. We waited and waited. No drinks or menu offered. Other tables arrived after us and were served. We asked to be served and were by a lovely server (blonde slim young lady). Very polite and doing her best to please. It did seem as though the place was under staffed. The food was was disappointing. Nothing special. My husband had a mixed grill he said it was ok but the lamb chop tasted odd. I had fillet steak which was very average. I thought the oil the chips were cooked in tasted horrible but maybe that was just not to my taste. We ordered deserts apple and rhubarb crumble which didn't taste crumbly as it was smothered in custard. I think the custard would be better served in a jug. It made it soggy. I think it was probably nice before drowned in custard. The chocolate brownie was just ok.Nothing special, a bit bland. The ice cream was nice. The atmosphere was uncomfortable lots of children running across the dining area(accident waiting to happen) screaming and shouting. Parents not concerned. Pretty much switched off to their own children and how they may impact others. I think management should have a quiet word and ask these people to control their children. I felt sorry for the servers it can't be easy carrying hot food around while children (below eye level charge back and forth though a dining area. The gazebo dining area isn't safe I saw three people trip over the scaffolding on ground level. On a final more serious note there seems to be lots of people milling about(customers) not wearing masks. I think really if not seated put a mask on. Should management be telling people? Not really there job but I found it off putting and I'm guessing others would too.Staff wore masks constantly to their credit. Tables were cleaned between diner also to the staffs credit as they looked rushed off their feet.Location very nice.I would not go again or ever recommend. I wasn't expecting perfection after lockdown because of all the changes places have had to make but I wasn't expecting it to be so bad. Such a shame.

Let’s start with the only positive about our visit - the views from The Raddle are beautiful with Croxden Abbey in the midst.1. This place is alarmingly COVID unfriendly. Ok it has a one way system in place but the manager admitted that no one really uses it (probably because it’s confusing) there was no QR code to scan for the NHS track & trace app or if there was I didn’t see it and we weren’t prompted to scan it and neither were our names/numbers taken. The worst was when they sat a family straight behind our table - I mean our chair backs were touching overs and whether the law is 1m or 2m when eating there was certainly neither distance between us. When my husband complained about this the Raddle Inns response was ‘they have no room basically’ the manager then accused us of saying ‘we were going to report him’ actually no we weren’t but we felt very unsafe and we were dining with my mum who is in her 70’s.2. Back to the views - the Raddle is renowned for good ones. But they decided to seat us in a windowless back room with a view out to their entrance hall which houses a filthy white staircase which needs a good scrub/repaint from where many hands have passed over it and discoloured it - the smell of bleach was quite unpleasant and the area smelt very stale/old beer smell. Not really a suitable area to seat customers.3. Menu is good plenty to choose from it would seem and comes out extremely quickly after ordering to the point of questioning if the food is already plated/cooked beforehand and either microwaved or already plated in a hot plate....ordered 3 roast dinners, a jacket potato and a children’s fish fingers/chips.4 My husband and I ate our roast dinners - they were edible certainly nothing special consisting of dry anemic looking chicken/odd tasting lamb,1 piece of roast potato, 2 new potatoes, hard broccoli, peas, stuffing ball and a handful of carrots. My mum couldn’t eat her roast and left most of it, my son didn’t eat his jacket and my daughter ate her food although the fish fingers were over cooked. No sauces/condiments were offered.5. No one came to ask if everything was ok and when our plates were finally cleared after the manager glared at me and my 18 month old daughter for walking around, were we to be able to finally explain the problem with the food. The young boy serving us offered a free dessert which we politely declined due to the main course being so diabolical. All we wanted to do at this point was to receive the bill and some recompense for the food that couldn’t be eaten.6. Upon querying the bill and explaining that we did not feel we should pay for my mother’s food and sons food as they simply couldn’t eat it. The manager clearly did not like this one bit and was noticeably irritated and aggressive. He demanded the cost of the food we did eat £33.65 without any please or thank you then thought it bizarre that I should ask for a card reader to pay - I mean, that is the recommended Covid safe way to pay for things at the moment!!7. We were made most unwelcome at The Raddle which is so sad as I have a long association with it having visited several times as a youngster and again more recently We won’t be returning

Came to stay on sunday for mine and my husbands anniversary, thb had a really good time but was let down when going to bed finding black dirty marks on the bedding resulting in us using the throw of the settee as a blanket.... also in the living room on the big window there was blood spats across the blinds when your paying £150 a night this is acceptable. Other tha the the little cottage is stunning. When returning the keys to the raddle in pub and speaking to a lady working in them telling her about the blood and dirt she said I will go speak to manager she came back and asked me email manager which I did to which I have had no reply or no apology. Like I say other than the 2 issues the cottage is stunning

Rude and curt staff member showed us to our table. No social distancing. We left early as four people sat next to us and were virtually touching shoulders. Younger staff members were pleasant but the older lady was abrupt. Food was good, portions were large but I will not return.

3 couples booked into the Raddle for Sunday Lunch. The intention being to eat there following a walk down to the Abbey at Croxden . I became very apprehensive after reading some of the reviews on Trip advisor, however after our visit I wondered whether we’d been to a different place. We had coffee on the terrace before the walk and then lunch in the conservatory afterwards. The staff were friendly and obliging, nothing was too much trouble. Social distancing was observed and hand sanitizers were available . The toilets were spotless. The food was freshly prepared and the portions, if anything, were on the large size. The views from the pub must be some of the best in the UK, absolutely stunning.I can only speak as I find..those negative reviews could not have been further from the truth so far as we are concerned.

We were a group of six who had lunch at the Raddle Inn on Sunday after an excellent walk in the local countryside. Our experience was very different from the very critical reviews which have been posted recently. We were treated in a friendly and welcoming manner and were able to be provided with an eleven o'clock coffee before starting our walk. At lunch our table was spaced at a safe distance from other diners. Our order was taken with no delay by an efficient and friendly waitress. Everything appeared. clean and hygienic. The Raddle does not claim to offer a "fine dining" experience. You can see the type of food from the pictures at the top of this Trip Adviser entry. There is a broad range of meals on offer, which basically comprise well cooked appetising bar meals - in generous portions. When the bill came it was considerably less than we had expected, so we asked the waiter to check whether it was correct - and it was! Well done The Raddle Inn!

We visited at lunchtime on a Tuesday. We ate outdoors on the pleasant terrace with beautiful views of the countryside and Abbey, as the weather was unseasonably warm.We ate from the 3 courses for £11 pensioners menu and found food , drinks and service very good, with adequate Covid awareness and social spacing. There were many other people dining outside due to the lovely weather, but food delivery was very quick following order. We were amazed at the choice on the pensioners menu especially for main course and dessert. The main menu also looked varied and good value. We will return again when in the area, and when weather permits take advantage of the seated areas in the paddock opposite, which has fantastic spaces for children to play in and breathtaking views.I have seen other poor reviews recently, but we enjoyed our visit and certainly had no complaints ourselves.

My friends and I decided to have a short break at The Raddle Inn and Lodges. We stayed in Lodge no 3 with a hot tub. On arrival we were met by a young woman who did not have any manners, customer service or care for guests. We were given our key and that was it, no information, not shown to the lodge basically here's the key and go.We let ourselves into the lodge and to say we were disappointed was an understatement. Shabby and dirty. We had to go to the pub to find someone to show is how turn the radiators off as it was like a furnace, we had to ask for clean glasses from the bar. We then had to find someone to fetch us extra bedding as only 2 beds were made up. We also had to find someone who could help us with the hot tub as weren't told how to use it and the cover was very difficult to get off and on. The first meal we had at the pub was nice but the staff didn't seem to listen to what you were saying when asking about drinks etc. We had paid extra to have Breakfast at the pub, on arrival we were told out table was set up in the conservatory and to take a seat. All items were set out, juice, cutlery, glasses etc but the place was absolutely dirty and full of flies. They bought our breakfast, which looked OK but we couldn't eat it as we were to busy swatting away the flies. After that experience we ended up having all our meals bought to the lodge for us (after we cleaned everything as best we could). Our lodge looked onto the pub kids play area and the car park so being in the hot tub was not relaxing or private. It's only saving grace is the views. It's such a shame because it could be a stunning place. As for social distancing and the pandemic, I think the rules have been missed bt the staff at The Raddle Inn. No one wore masks, visors or kept any distance what so ever. The outside area which was nice didn't seem to be cleaned at any point, it is like there is no pride in the place which is a shame. My friends and I have worked all through the pandemic, had a wedding and holidays cancelled so decided to stay somewhere close to home just to have a short break and relax, we paid nearly £600 for 3 nights and if I'm honest it is way over priced for what you actually get. I definitely would not recommend this place and I will definitely not be going back.
