Education and cleanliness, not a typical Scottish environment, clearly reminiscent of a bistro. Food prepared with care but poor assortment and too many fusion incursions with French cuisine...s assisted and expensive choice of beer, very expensive wines but in line with the city

Great all around! Our friends who now live in our town in the US, recommended this place so we naturally wanted to try. They didn’t disappoint! We loved the flexibility of the hostess. When we inquired about a table without a reservation, she was very willing. The ambience is very pretty, cozy & romantic by the window. The food was well seasoned and definitely fresh. Do not miss the Stornoway Black Pudding. It’s really delicious! We ordered Lamb rump, Duck leg, Sea bass & Cod. Our favorites were the last 3 only because we are not “rare” meat eaters and the lamb was served so. I still enjoyed it tho! I loved their mocktails! So good! They had sides that were also fantastic! The cheesy and creamy cauliflower were amazing!! You gotta try!

Went here yesterday for a nice last evening in Edinburgh meal and it was fantastic. Our server was really lovely and took great care of us. The scallops and lamb hit the spot and the wine list had some really good options. I would 100% come back again the next time in town. The neighbourhood is nice as well for a walk around with a park close by for an after dinner walk. Really great place

Fantastic neighbourhood restaurant whose subtle lighting and intimate decor welcomes you in warmly as do the attentive and friendly staff. The menu is attractively small and balanced with a Modern French feel (even though the chef is from Sicily) and every dish was perfectly presented and delicious. Great value too. Found out about this place about 6 months ago, been back 4 times since then. Just love it. Relaxed, easy atmosphere and delicious food and service. Keep up the great work Team Rabbit Hole. PS ... only minor point is it was draughty each time we were in due to the door or the vent above the door being open. Table next to us felt the same. Minor point but didn't waste our visits.

A lovey meal for all 6 of us. The steaks were perfectly cooked. Starters delicious as was the duck confit and the sea base. The bread was served with rapeseed oil and balsamic and in our opinion olive oil is far nicer and healthier. When the bill came we had been overcharged by an additional bottle of wine which was we were told was a genuine mistake - we had one bottle of Gavi and 2 Malbecs, we could easily have missed this so felt a bit concerned

I will start the review by saying the food here was quite good in regards to flavors. The wine was equally delicious. However it was perhaps one of the top two worst restaurant experiences of my life because of the chef. The kitchen sent out a sole fish with about 1/4 of the fish missing. I ate the front half and when i flipped the fish over , 1/2 of the other side of the fish was missing. I sent the fish back to the kitchen, and rather than apologize, the chef came out insulted me and accused me of lying about the fish. The chef is rude unprofessional and unhinged. It is a shame, but i was so offended i just stood up and walked out. And i have never done that anywhere in the world. I can not in good conscience recommend this restaurant and reward the behavior of such an unprofessional and clearly mad chef. Do not go here even if the food is good, if you have an issue you will be insulted rather than accommodated.

Food 5/5 To start with, the bread (baguette) was amazing. I don’t remember the being so impressed by plain bread in a while (but then, that might be because I’m American). Delicately crispy on the outside and soft and almost sweet on the inside. Every course since then was excellent as well. The parmesan chicken starter was so good (and very popular too—many tables besides mine also ordered it). The lamb pithivier main was also very good. Very unique, too. All the dishes were also of very generous portions. Service 4.8/5 Very friendly staff. Came to take my order at a good time—including promptly noticing that I’ve finished my main course and asking if I want any dessert. The total time spent there was ~1h35m. It took about 20 mins for my starter to come, but I had the delicious bread to keep me company, and the fried chicken was worth the wait. Atmosphere 4.6/5 Clean and comfortable. I loved the interior design.

We have visited this restaurant many times over the last few years. Sadly, it’s lost some of us shine. There are now fewer menu options and on two recent visits our wine choices had run out. Everyone enjoyed their starters. Beautifully presented and very tasty. The mains got less praise. The veggie option (only one) was a pasta parmigiana. It was tasteless and had just a small slither of aubergine. Joyless to eat. Service was efficient.

Ate here with a friend last night and very busy little restaurant. A mix of students, families (dogs) and couples, seated very tightly and very noisy generally. You are packed in - and quite hard to hold a convo. The food was delicious, albeit very small portions (which I don’t really mind too much). The flavours were exceptional, it just would have been nice to have a little more food for the cost. Pudding was a disappointment - tiniest lime mousse portion that really wasn’t at all well presented. Scoring 4 out of 5 as the negatives are more personal preference ones, and its clearly a nice spot with high quality food (I just prefer to not be so packed in, and for cost, a little more food). We had two courses, two sides and water =£80 with tip.

Food good, atmosphere good but I thought the food menu was ‘French’ in character. I asked for a cafe au lait. I’ve been ill and can’t eat much and have a very restricted diet. I was expecting a French cafe au lait as a dessert but when it arrived it was an Americano with cold milk. Sadly it spoiled my lunch because I felt that the waitress made an assumption that I would accept this.

Took my wife for Mother’s Day last Sunday. The menu was creative, the decor imaginative and subtle, the waitresses all very friendly and efficient, our table nicely appointed and the background music was exactly right for this bistro style restaurant. The food was delivered in good time and very enjoyable. Would rethink the homemade ketchup with Beef Carpaccio (overpowering - some things are best left traditional) but not so much to reduce the 5 stars we have given. Is dog friendly too which is important to us. Highly recommend this Grange/Meadows neighbourhood restaurant and will certainly return. Shame they don’t open every Sunday. Once included in Michelin guide, Rabbit hole still offer the pleasant food. The restaurant gives me the sense of coziness not private but still relaxing. The complimentary bread and the dipping sauce is nice. The star for me is the Scottish border roe deer. The meat is very succulent and tender combining with the sauce I couldn’t smell any unpleasant flavors from it. Quite recommended The seafood plaice and mussel dish is creamy and flavorful as well. All the main dishes don’t come with side dish so you need to order things to combine the dish Its French fries is the cheapest choice and it’s ok. The interior is great and the toilet is quite impressive, and it’s not far from the meadows. I think you won’t disappoint coming to try this restaurant.

Another midweek treat for Perthshire out of towners while clearing an old family home in the area, very fortunate to stumble onto this place in easy walking distance. Everything was just right from the house white to the charming and understated interior decor. We encountered the haddock gratin and bouillabaise, amongst other things, then a perfect lemon posset and well-measured coffee. All the time served attentively by the hard working front of house staff member who kept on top of the job despite walk-in’s doubling their booked numbers on a Tuesday evening. I have had the opportunity to dine at this restaurant on two occasions, and during my last visit, I noticed that it was no longer recommended by Michelin. However, it became apparent that there have been significant improvements since my previous visit. Our meal consisted of belgnet, ravioli, veal, sea trout, lamb, guinea fowl, and two vegetarian sides. The starters and main dishes were all exceptionally delicious. However, the two vegetarian sides left much to be desired and did not seem to justify their cost of £7 each. The final subtotal for our bill came to £116, which I found to be quite reasonable. One notable aspect that could be improved is the service. It appeared that only two waitresses were managing the entire restaurant, and although they put forth considerable effort, the service was somewhat lacking. This might be alleviated by having additional staff on hand. It was also a bit disappointing to learn that seating in the fancy window-side area is not available on a first-come-first-served basis; instead, it must be reserved in advance. Lastly, it was disheartening to discover that the restaurant no longer serves rabbit meat, which was once a signature dish. This change was quite surprising and left me somewhat dismayed.

Buzzing, smallish restaurant. We were allocated one of a couple of tables just off the main room but we could see though and didn't feel 'out of it'. The staff were welcoming, friendly and attentive. The menu choices were good and the food itself was excellent. The only downside was finding our coats. It would seem the greeting staff had a random method of determining which coats went on which hooks :-)

The Rabbit Hole lives up to its neighbourhood gem reputation. It is cosy and romantic, the staff are unobtrusive yet friendly and the food and wine are divine. Of particular note was the size of the starters. I had thé fricassée and my fellow diner had the taleggio fondu. Last visit I had rabbit loin ( rabbit usually on the menu in some way, shape or form), my wife had a blackened chicken with greek style dressing and salsa, which was a subtle and more thoughtful nuanced version than one might expect, a really nice cured trout with apple and cucumber starter and a duck kind of deep fried parcel that was delicious. Enjoyable evening with friends, fresh produce served with affordable good quality wine. Mackerel with beetroot starter could have had a touch more horseradish, but nicely cooked even though it came 5 mins after everyone else served - but no problem really. The burrito an heirloom tomatoes was disappointing as tomatoes lacked taste. Mains were good ladies portion size, 2 of us had the rabbit and it was very tasty, my monkfish on the bone was a little small, and the steak and frites was a larger portion. Affogatos all round were good. Only small issue. Was the table we were all seated around a round table but only 2/3 rds of it as a table for two very close by. Good value and we would return

Made a reservation, arrived and there was no record of my reservation. Fortunately the staff did not make an issue of it and seated us immediately. I was able to see what others were eating and it looked delicious. We were super excited. Drink orders were taken. 15 mins later the server came back to ask what we ordered because she couldn’t remember. Ok, no problem, it happens. Drinks arrived, food order to be placed. The kitchen ran out of both of our choices for a main dish. There are only 6 options available for mains so how do you run out of two. It would have been helpful to know that before we were seated because we would have just left. We ended up ordering mains that we didn’t want. We ordered burrata for an appetizer and it was on a bed of some kind of sauce that just didn’t work. Didn’t order desert because they were out of our first choice for that as well. It’s a hard pass for me even though the atmosphere was lovely.

The Concierge at our Hotel recommended this restaurant highly. The space is lovely and warm. The wine list is very limited with most of the wines 2020 or 2021. The biggest issue was with the less than friendly service and the kitchen. Our server highly recommended the venison which my wife ordered. We waited a very long time for our entree’s. The server brought my duck out first and then we waited several minutes for them to bring my wife’s venison which turned out to be mediocre at best, chewy and lukewarm. Of note is that my wife left at least a third of the venison on her plate. When the server took our plates, she made no effort to inquire as to whether the food was alright even though she had talked my wife out of another choice. She just scooped up the dishes. When we asked for decaf espresso for after dinner, the server said they do not have decaf which was odd. Our restaurant the prior evening did. While the server acknowledged the timing issue later, no effort was made to apologize, bring us dessert or anything that other restaurants would do. Again, just very detached service. My duck was fine, but overall this was not a great experience.

Service was very good until we were 15 min before our time to leave at which stage the staff became very abrupt and kindness was switched off. I won't be back as these 2 hour rules feel like you are on a conveyor belt - it really takes away from the enjoyment of a nice and relaxed evening. It makes one feel like a wallet, not a guest. We went to The Rabbit Hole for our Christmas meal and have been many times over the years. However, this time we found the food to be incredibly disappointing. I had the Christmas main which was reheated red cabbage, topped with mash potato. Tiny chopped...

Good atmosphere, food not warm enough when served. Most of the fish in the main dish was tasted burnt.

This was a family lunch for 10. The starters were excellent as were the deserts. The main course of turkey was very disappointing. It was just stuffing encased in pastry. No turkey in sight and bacon very tough. Staff were very nice and helpful. So, would return but not pre order the turkey.!

Good surprising food and wine. Friendly service. One thing to improve is the draught of cold air coming in when someone enters or leaves. The inside curtain does'nt overlapps enough to keep the cold outside.

Great food and cosy environment. Starter and dessert were good, but the stand out was the main, a pigeon tagine which my partner said was 9/10, one of the best mains he has ever had. For me it was good all round but nothing stand...

Quality food in an intimate and cozy atmosphere. Away from busy roads. Im glad I stomped into it one day and booked a table for another day, as they are busy, and with reason!

Food here is edible though one wonders why spending 40+ pounds for something which would be better cooked (and served) at home. Dishes lack in details and flavours are banal. Hard vegetable labelled Winter greens are still hard vegetables. Cheap balsamic vinegar and supermarket bread...

My partner and I had wonderful, relaxed Friday evening. We booked a few hours prior. Wonderful and attentive staff, who didn’t rush us to order. I had the Crème parmantiere, poached egg, truffle and truffle oil to start, and then the Venison and black pudding...

We were a little early for our restaurant booking so had an aperitif downstairs in the wine bar, which was a fantastic start to our lunch. Excellent staff and choice of wines. The room is big with benches and tables plus a mezzanine. The restaurant, despite some comments is very rustic french. Great atmosphere and the food is of a very high standard for the price. I've been a few times and it's always consistent and the service friendly and efficient. It's always busy with a great buzz of conversation. No piped music either, hoorah🤓.

Lovely relaxed dining atmosphere with tasty, fresh ingredients. I am coeliac, and very confident with their prep of gluten free food!
