We were led to believe this was above average - ho hum... Service, whilst friendly, was slow. Finding a wine list took some 20 minutes. After another reuest when it arrived it was crumpled and stained. As it was warm night we decided to eat outside - tables could have done with a good wipe, and the floor had obviously not seen a sweep for some time - cigarette ends all over the place. Menu was nothing more than average selection of pub food, and from arrival to food arriving took one hour. On the plus sign - food was hot, and acceptable, portion size - substantial. (No need for a starter.)

Great little pub, dogs welcome on the bar and garden. We ate in the bar, service was good, water and bar staff very pleasant. Food was great, we had Thai fishcake starters, followed by steak with Kidney and mushroom suet pudding with veg. The food was lovely, hot, well cooked and served with a smile.

Beautiful pub in great surroundings, friendly staff, it promised a lot but sadly failed to deliver when the food came out, Cajun spiced burger had no taste, was over cooked so very dry, bacon strips so overdone just shattered when attempting to eat, chips a bit over too. Beef brisket dish was under cooked, so tough, good gravy though, beef needed another two hours to be falling apart nicely. As commented in other reviews, no condiments on tables and cutlery provided for the desserts was just a spoon - directly on the tabletop, no serviette, desserts were good sized portion and were great.

Excellent choice of quality beer (esp Barnwell bitter) served by Meg the great host, Fabulous, fresh food created by experienced chef Bob in a 16th century pub…. …could it get better? Just the weather could improve the time we had at the Queens Head and that’s not in their control clearly. It was that good we went 5 or 6 times in the 9 nights we were in the area. Thanks Meg and Bob, loved it, we will be back in summer for the outdoor wood fired pizza oven . Ps, Casper sends a cuddle Meg.🐶

Sunday lunch: lovely country pub. Nice surroundings. Friendly staff. Food: waited 45 minutes for main course. Large portions. Very heavily seasoned with salt. Some may prefer that. I would rather add my own. No condiments offered. The food was nice but cold. Mentioned this to staff member Minor issues easily remedied so 3 stars

On a positive note, the staff were extremely friendly and attentive. Sadly the food and drink didn't live up to our expectations and lacked good choice. I asked for an Aperol which they did not stock, I then asked for a Sauvignon Blanc, which they had ran out of. The food was over priced for the standard we received. My salmon dish with creamy tagliattele was just tasteless and under seasoned. My husband had a burger and chips which was nothing special and presented very poorly. Our meal and drinks ( I had sparkling water in the end ) came to £80 which did not reflect our experience. We loved coming here on many occasions .. I just hope the new management can improve upon their standards to compete with James and Lauren Trevor who gave the Queens Head its reputable name. My apologies, but hopefully this is taken constructively.

Sadly we waited an hour before being told there was an issue with the cooker and our Sunday roast was delayed, the plates were cold as well as the dining room, so the meagre veg and very small amount of gravy was cold in no time , we all had different meat and everyone said it was good, we all go out together trying different places for Sunday lunch, sadly this was not one of our favourites, the interior is looking tired which is a shame in this beautiful building

Decided to try the Queens Head as we were their last year on a stop from a days bike ride, baring in mind we have come in January after their busy Xmas period and the menu was a reduced menu compared to their normal menu. I have scored it three out of five only due to the food selection on offer as the mains felt like lunch dishes. All the food was nice but not great and the wine selection was fabulous. Nice location and surrounding with great service, food was not cheap but there is skill involved with the dishes that were served. We will be going again to try the full menu but a burger and fish and chips for a Saturday night meal was something we weren’t expecting

The Queens' Head is a lovely village pub with a roaring fire for winter and outdoor seating in the summer. It is used by locals and visitors and there is always a warm welcome from the staff. The food is top quality and there is a good choice of meals. They also keep a range of local ales and stouts with a good selection of decent wines.

We visited around 17:30, just after opening time. There were a few locals in the bar, but not overly busy. We ordered two pizzas; mine was a standard pepperoni, my wife’s the wild mushroom, but without the cheese, as this causes migraines. The staff were more than accommodating and our pizzas arrived after 15-20 minutes, just as we had ordered and were excellent. Size wise, they were more than sufficient for the average person. There were only four or five pizza topping options, although they are made to order and I suspect they would make some changes if requested to. The staff were friendly and helpful and we would recommend this pub without hesitation if you are just after a decent pizza.

I recently took my family to the Queen’s Head to celebrate my birthday. On arriving we were immediately greeted outside by a very nice smiley Lady, who showed us inside to our own, very well set out dining room. The pub inside and out was very busy. Since my last visit, there is now a big outside patio seating area with new pizza oven. Plenty of room (under current circumstances!) for social distancing. Despite the full house, the service I and my family received throughout the whole evening was outstanding. I heard later that they had seated well over one hundred covers. All credit to the efforts and efficiency of the staff. The food did not disappoint either. In fact my medium/rare(and it was bang on) steak with peppercorn sauce. Was right up there with one of the few best, I’ve ever had. The sauce was so tasty that I was told off ( by my better half) for using my knife to scrape up every drop. The Posh Fish a Chips were also amazing. Non of us had any complaints and we all had three courses. The wine list was comprehensive and wines well selected to cover all tastes.I’m not someone who writes many reviews, but on this occasion felt that The Queen’s Head deserved one. Thank you for making my birthday that extra special, and we are all, as a family looking forward to seeing you again very soon.

The staff made every effort to make us feel welcome - in truth they went “above and beyond” given that a temporary stand, full of wine and champagne, blew over in front of our eyes. The staff are very pleasant and well trained. The chef/ chefs are excellent. The atmosphere is a typical old fashioned pub, thankfully none of the walls had been knocked down to make one big room, in fact there is a small room with one table which can be booked for a party of about ten.The food was delicious as always. Two of our pastry started with the chicken liver parfait which is just about the best. I didn’t have a starter but the haunch of venison for my main course was melt in the mouth tender. Having moved to this part of the world recently, we have been trying out some of the local Inns. We happened by the Queens Head Bulwick by chances and decided t give it a go.It is a very old Inn run by a bright, intelligent young man. There is a formal dining room a couple of smaller more intimate areas or as we choose a table in the main bar area next to a roaring log fire (it was winter after all). Service was good and the owner took time to talk to us, always a good sign.I had Ham Hock & Foie Gras Terrine, Pear Chutney & Our Own Bread to start and Seared Fillet of Cornish Hake, Morcilla, Saffron Potatoes, Tenderstem Broccoli & Butter Sauce as a main. They do a very reasonable £14 lunch and a £20 for 2020 deal of dinner as well as complete a la carte. They also serve classic pub grub like fish and chips and home baked pizza, so something to suite all tastes and all pockets. Its the sort of place that you can just drop in for something quick or where you can take a good friend or loved one for the full works, give it a go if you are in the area.

When we arrived it was dark and it took us a minute to find the door in but got a warm welcome and the atmosphere was relaxed and cosy. We skipped starter as, to be honest, nothing grabbed our attention but in hindsight was disappointed we'd not taken 3 courses here. We had a home made pizza which looked and tasted very authentic, and pheasant with gratin. The potatoes were possibly the best I'd ever had.By far the best part was pud. I am glad no one was sat too close because my friend didn't speak, just made low orgasmic tones at it. The panna cotta with amerena cherries and home made shortbread was so perfectly balanced and my tart tatin, sticky and sweet. This place was worth the 40 minute journey for the sweet alone and the service was faultless.

We have visit many pubs in the area, but now the Queens Head in the village of bulwick is by far our favourite. It is more than just a pub or pub food. Firstly the interior has been tastefully thought out giving a welcoming atmosphere and a personal favourite, no carpets but hard wood / tiled floors so you don’t get that carpet smell sometimes associated with pubs. Then the food. The food is exceptional for a pub, it is more quality restaurant food than what you would associate with pub food. Soup of the day is always outstanding and the selection of dishes should accommodate everyone. They also cater for allergies such as gluten intolerance. They also have a good selection of beers and a quality but relatively inexpensive wine list. Finally the staff are also polite and welcoming. As I say in the title, the Queens Head is nothing short of spectacular for a pub.

Went for Sunday lunch. Very slow service. Staff seem to be inexperienced and not enough of them. Tables waited far too long to be cleared. Nobody seemed to be in charge. Roast beef came with 2 small roast potatoes. I had to ask for some more. Beef was over cooked but otherwise food was good. Their New Zealand Sauvignon was pretty tasteless.

This was one of the best Sunday lunches we have had ! The beef was cooked perfectly and so were the delicious vegetables. The service could be a bit more attentive, the main course came out very quick but had to wait for some time to order the puddings, so we gave up and left. I would advice booking a table.

We’ve just enjoyed a lovely Sunday lunch at this recently re-opened pub in Bulwick. With eight hungry diners we were able to give the menu a fairly extensive test. All of us were well pleased with the fare we were served. Excellent roasts with all the trimmings. Fantastic fish and chips with homemade mushy peas. The puddings were also remarkably good. One word of advice for the management though. Service. Whilst the staff were all very polite and helpful they were rushing about and missing simple things like bringing plates for the bread and clearing glasses from the table. Get that right and it would have been a faultless afternoon.

Visited with a friend, and the food was wonderful. The service was both excellent and pleasant. Highly recommend chocolate truffles and honeycomb to finish.

Came here on Friday & Saturday nights for a camping weekend. On Friday just had a drink (ales reasonably priced) and a takeaway pizza ( a bit bland for the price). We returned on Saturday for a drink and a meal and the meal was really enjoyable Starter pate & main Fish & chips. Staff are friendly and polite / helpful. Only slight criticism would be a lack of room inside for people who just want a drink (there is a large patio area though which is OK in the summer months. The area around the bar does feel a bit cramped. Overall a really nice place.

Stopping off on the way home from Winchester we managed to get a table for two in the bar for Sunday lunch. Prompt and excellent service by a young waitress and in no time our roast beef lunches arrived. Perfectly cooked with great vegetables and crunchy roast potatoes. Could not be better. We followed this with a chocolate nemesis and also ice cream. Americanos to follow to settle a perfect meal. Really good.

Our large walking group was given great service, and a first class 'Walkers lunch' last Friday. It's so pleasing to see the pub back in business, looking great inside and out...even the staff uniforms look good on the enthusiastic team. Recommended.

Really great to see this lovely pub so well re-established. Confident and consistent you know a menu not unlike the former Jim’s Bistro in Peterbough will not disappoint.

Visited here for lunch after it was recommended to us and wasn't disappointed. Service was speedy and courteous in a delightful location. Mains and desserts were all excellent (didn't have starters). Will definitely return in the not too distant future.

A first visit after our tour around Apethorpe Palace. The food was superb, packed with flavour and well-presented. The service was excellent - professional and efficient - and where we were all made to feel very welcome! Thank-you! We'll be back!

Delightful pub recommended by friends. Had trouble getting in when we tried to book, however they found somewhere for us (3) and it was perfect. Nice and quiet (nigh impossible in so many establishments today). Interesting menu. We settled for the Chedder Cheese Souffle with a tomato relish for starters which was very good while one of us had smoked salmon they said was superb. Lovely warm home made bread and butter was a delight.

We'd been told that this place was back to being a great destination, so on our way back from making a major kitchen purchase we called in. And very glad that we did!

The website states food 12 till 5. Turning up at a half empty pub at 2.30 we were told there were no sunday lunches left. We were offered a pizza instead. I wanted proper food and would have gone to Pizza Express if that was what I wanted. We went to another pub close by who were more than happy to serve us sunday lunch which was excellent. Guess where we will go next time we are hungry

The service was friendly but there was only us four there. We didn’t know it had turned into an Indian restaurant but we decided to stay and try the food. The food was lovely but mine was a bit cold so I asked for it to be warmed up. A day later I’ve got food poisoning sickness and diarrhoea and so have my friends who had joined me to eat there so I would look at your hygiene cleanliness unless it was reheating chicken I’m not sure but we are all ill now.

We have been here several times now because the food is great, the staff are very helpful and friendly, and they are dog friendly. There is a choice of sitting inside or outside. The menu offers a good variety of dishes and the helpings are generous and reasonably priced. It has become a firm favourite of mine and I hope to visit many times more. There is an added bonus of a farm shop where I regularly buy fresh, long dated, local farm eggs and a variety of different flavoured heavy fruit cake. Thoroughly recommended.
