The Queen's Head could quite easily be missed if you don't know where to find it, as it is hidden up the old Bedford to Cambridge (Roman?), road just off of the market square, it is also the oldest pub in Sandy dating (as an Ale House), from at least 1642 & has the character to carry it off. Tall people be aware, some beams are a bit low! I attended a friends wedding anniversary party last weekend & had a fantastic time. The catering (done in-house), was amazing & the private area in the garden made for a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon & evening. The Queen's Head has a good choice of beers, wines etc. "Kitchen Takeovers", & food truck visits. It has a large garden & courtyard style outside seating area, as well three room indoor bars. This is a classic Good old traditional British pub with none of the gimmicks of bi monthly "Festivals", etc taken up by other pubs.

It has come to my attention that a number of rumours are floating about an incident occurring in the Queen’s Heat public bar in Cambridge Road, Sandy on Wednesday night 22nd of December and I feel it necessary to set the record straight. Heated words were exchanged between myself and a person wearing a flat cap, regarding the volume of my mobile phone while I was watching the Liverpool vs Leicester Carabao cup quarter final. I responded by complaining about his swearing. The landlady asked me to move and sit some distance away, and I complied. I was unaware that the sound from my phone was causing irritation and so I turned it down. This did not stop the man, who I did not know and who I shall now refer to as Flatcap, who continued to shout threats of violence in my direction. I responded by telling him that he was far too old to behave it such an aggressive and irresponsible manner. After 10 minutes I went to the toilet for a pee. While in the middle of this pee, Flatcap and another man, who I did not know, and who had spent the evening talking to Flatcap, entered the toilet. I quickly put myself in order and said to both of them that I cannot believe they have followed me into the toilet to continue this trouble. As I attempted to leave, the second man brought his arm up to my chest to stop me from leaving. Flatcap, who was now standing behind me, put his arms around me and held me tight. The second man punched me in the face causing me to double over and turn away from the punch into the midriff of Flatcap who was still holding me. The second man then punched me to the side of the head as I was turned. As punches rained down on me from the second man, I attempted to release the grip that Flatcap held on me by stomach punching him to the midriff so as not to cause to much hurt. He let go and I turned to place a carefully pulled punch to his chin in order to stun him so I could concentrate on the younger aggressor who was still punching me. I had now turned 180 degrees and was able to land some punches to the face and body of the second man while being able to back away towards the entrance door. At that time the landlady entered and ordered all off us to leave her pub. This is a true version of events. The two individuals involved in the attack are scum. The staff and the landlady of the Queens Heat are lovely people but they have allowed a number of unsavoury characters to start drinking in this pub and I advise any person who wants a quiet and relaxed drink to venture to a safer environment.

We were driving back from the Midlands and stopped in Sandy randomly. The first pub we stopped only served Sunday roast and we both were looking for a burger. The Queen’s head did serve them and ... absolutely freshly made, including nice chips and salad. And only £6! There is a garden as well and some off road parking. Friendly staff. A pity the pub is not closer. Definitely worth a small detour!

Poor standard of beers and the orange juice totally falls short of the mark, spoils potentially nice local

My wife & I had an hour to kill on a Saturday prior to checking into a local hotel at 2 pm, so we dropped in here for a quick lunch. We ate in the garden, and the Veggie Ciabatta and Bangers & Mash were both really nice. Very friendly service for food and drinks in a traditional but not dowdy setting. Mind your head!

Too many pubs today serve vastly overpriced food and drink. Often people don't want to spend over a tenner on a drink and a sandwich at lunchtime or have the time to wait for it to be prepared; The Queen's Head is run by people who understand this. We were there at lunchtime today, the bar was well presented, with a good selection of drinks, and pre-prepared rolls ready for customers at a reasonable £1.50. (I can vouch for the cheese & onion.) We live in Biggleswade but The Queen's Head makes a visit to Sandy for a bit of shopping a pleasant prospect, so we'll be back. They don't offer full meals, and the bar can be described as 'characterful', I think traditional pub goers will like this establishment.

The Queens Head is a welcoming pub serving a good range of beers on tap. This is not a food destination, but a great place to relax with a beer on a sunny day. A lovely and peaceful, child-friendly, garden.

Have always adored this pub... Prices are average and the service is always super friendly. A garden suitable for children and plenty of seating area - great place to come for a beer in the sun! Con - Could do with a little bit of maintenance / decorating.

Visited on an early Saturday evening with the family. The service was excellent and prompt. The menu was relatively limited but everything looked good. I struggled for choice but went for a large steak. Good choice it proved. That said, I will be going back to try the other dishes. When we were sat there the other meals coming out of the kitchen all looked really good. We were there at 6:00pm, where it was empty, but tables filled quickly thereafter so it seems to be a popular choice.

We broke down on the A1 and spent two great hours in the Queens head waiting for the RAC. The massive roaring fire was very welcoming. The staff were so friendly and helpful. The locals were very talkative and the two hours passed quickly.

Visited The Queen's Head for the first time as a central point for distant family for a birthday get-together. A super place and warm welcome, a very good home cooked Sunday roast and yummy crumble to follow. Couldn't fault the food, service or atmosphere, excellent value for money and the open fire definitely added to the ambience. Our apologies for the children in the party who were very loud and excitable but there wasn't one complaint about them - very tolerant staff! Would definitely return but as an adults only group in future.

We recently had the Sad task of arranging wake for the passing of a family member. The team at the Queens head were amazing, that took away all the strain and laid on a great spread at great value. Nothing was too much trouble, the Team there of Sam and Jo are a credit to the Owners. We would highly recomend the Queens head for any function or just a great Pint. Thanks again Sam and Joe.

Wish this was my local. Unspoilt, low ceiling drinkers' pub. Like the old days. No food served at the moment but a lunch on offer on a Sunday. Excellent pint of Carlsberg £3.70 - about right. Some good ales on offer. Parking could be a problem as car park small, and pub is on a main road. However, if you want the feel of England like it used to be, this is the place. The friendly locals know this. Wonderful.

I haven't been in this pub for many years & when I did it was only to drink. My mum & I decided to call in for some lunch one day during the week. The menu is what you would expect from a local pub & is very reasonably priced. We both had the pumpkin soup which the menu said came with a chunk of bread - this was in fact 2 slices of freshly baked thickly cut bread, much more than we were expecting. Not realising that this much bread came with the soup we also opted to share a cheese toastie. The soup was piping hot & flavoursome & the cheese toastie certainly had an ample amount of nice tasting cheese. Including 2 soft drinks it came to just under £15, a very reasonable price for a tasty lunch. The gentleman behind the bar was also very friendly & polite. We were the only 2 in there that had lunch which seems a real shame but as it's midweek maybe it's much busier at the weekends. I will definitely be returning.

This used to be my frequent pub in Sandy for a beer with freinds and family. Got a new landlady in the last couple of years and although the beer is still of a good standard the service is hit & miss. They have tried to put on food and attract families with numerous events but it is all a bit too average. They should put better garden furniture in what is a decent sized garden. Still use the place but not as often as we used too.

The new owners have made such a difference. Great food is now served and the new deco is welcoming and comfortable. The garden is superb for the summer months where kids are welcome to play and have fun. They also do fun activities days for kids (and adults) indoors and outdoors. Lovely staff and as it goes a good pint! or two

Stopped off on the A1 on Saturday 15th November in Sandy, a pleasant little town but best of all discovered the Queens Head. The pub is warm and inviting, very clean and quaint with plenty of character. The staff were friendly and efficient and nothing seemed too much trouble. We ordered two “Old Smokey” Steak Burgers with Smoked Bacon, Smoked Cheese, BBQ Sauce & Chips. They came with attractive and tasty salad garnishes and were absolutely delicious. The service was excellent, and we felt this was really good value for money at £5.50 each. With a wide selection of ales and soft drinks to choose from this was one of the best pub lunches we have had in a very long time. Highly recommended.

I went here with friends who live locally and drop in here often! We came on a saturday afternoon and had a bite to eat. We very much enjoyed the games available to play with in the garden (connect 4!) and the fact they are very accommodating when it comes to taking the dogs too.I had a fish finger sandwich, which i have to say, was immense! Absolutely delicious, piping hot and served with the loveliest soft bread! The service was excellent, with the staff often stopping for a chat while delivering food or collecting plates (which they do often!).Lovely garden area to sit in and catch rays or hide in the shade, the choice is yours!Would definitely recommend and go back to!

This pub is excellent! The staff are really friendly, particularly the landlady Sharon who is witty, welcoming and not a bad cook either! ;)Me and my partner often pass through for a relaxed drink, and some lovely food. The Tapas on Wednesday is really good and excellent value and summer lunches in the garden are great for friends and family. We can't reccomend this place highly enough and they're dog friendly too.

The Queens Head is a lovely pub with great atmosphere. A group of us were rambling in the area and the pub was well worth the visit. A lovely touch was the pub owner greeted us at the train station when we arrived and told us the menu, which was specially done for us as it was just after Christmas and New Year (we had booked in advance as we were a large group). Being a rainy and cold winter day, the pub owner ensured the fire was light when we arrived. The food was excellent. The game dish was so tender it melted in your mouth. The vegetarian dish also looked really good. The staff really worked hard to ensure our visit was a good one - which it was! Would certainly visit again!

If you're travelling down the A1 through Bedfordshire and are looking for somewhere to stop then drop in at The Queens Head in Sandy, it's only a stones throw off the main road. Jay and I found this in the good beer guide, and decided to call in for something to eat and drink on our journey home from Southwold to the Cotswolds and, were pleasantly surprised at the service and quality of the food. She ordered a vegetarian pie topped with sweet potato and cheese and I ordered a corned beef sandwich with sweet potato chips. The cook came out and said that all food was prepared and cooked to order and asked if that was ok to which we replied yes. The pub is a Greene King house and also had 3 guest beers on, the one I chose was in good condition and tasted nice (Jay drinks diet Coke/Pepsi). Dinner was served and the portions were more than we could manage. So, if you're looking for a pit stop as you're travelling down the A1 give it try.

First thing - empty at least 7 mixed tables free THIS WAS Empty AT LIKE 945 AM , Staff looked down their nose as if we knew they were FULL! Then said after being approached- we are full , never even asked what we wanted - and that would have been what 15 minute drink? We had no wish to eat I am shocked in attitude and ethos of the place - would not be willing to recommend or re visit

We booked afternoon tea for four about a week in advance, this was dealt with by the event organiser who couldn't have been more helpful, When we arrived the staff were waiting for us and conducted us to the old library where a single table was prepared for us. We had expected to be in the restaurant and to have a private room was a real treat. Our party included a vegetarian and a gluten intolerant guest. The Chef had prepared separate plates of sandwiches for these two as well as a seperate stand of glutent free cakes. There was a good variety of sandwiches which were obviously freshly prepared and well presented, the cakes and sweets were varied and excellent. The service was A1 and unobtrusive, fresh tea being brought in on request. We all really ate too much, but the food was so nice we just had to clear the plates :-) A very special afternoon for us and we shall return. We do enjoy an afternoon tea when we can ~ our overall service experience here was far better then at Woburn, much quieter and personal than that at Frosts at Willington and better service and fresher food than the at the Swan in Bedford,

We ate here whilst staying at the hotel. It was during a Wedding Reception. We were warned ahead of time that there may be a delay in the food arriving. However we felt that there was no perceptible delay. The food we ate was delicious! The Staff were very friendly and approachable.
