First thing - empty at least 7 mixed tables free THIS WAS Empty AT LIKE 945 AM , Staff looked down their nose as if we knew they were FULL! Then said after being approached- we are full , never even asked what we wanted - and that would have been what 15 minute drink? We had no wish to eat I am shocked in attitude and ethos of the place - would not be willing to recommend or re visit

We went in, the place had several tables free. I Tried to order and was told one of our choices wasn’t available, so returned to order again and was told food would take at least 35 minutes - yet everyone in the cafe already had their food or were finishing. The staff clearly wanted to wind up service early, so we left and ate elsewhere. We saw another couple do the same shortly afterwards. Would never bother again

Visited with family for the 'special' Christmas Afternoon tea. A lovely atmosphere and the food and cakes we received were very nice, but at £25 per head I feel it was overpriced for what it was. The attached photo is a selection for 2 people, which along with a tea cup of soup each and a tea or coffee, totaled £50. I have no issue with the quality of what was served, but at an £10 extra on top of the 'normal' afternoon tea price of £14.95, I don't feel what was served justified the additional increased cost.

Nice place for a quick tea, but the food isn't great. It's a shame as it has potential if they invested in quality ingredients. I ordered a gluten free cake which was extremely dry and hard in the middle. The prices don't reflect the quality of the food in my opinion.

Last month the delivery boys decided to fuel-up for breakfast before starting their Saturday morning shift in Campton. We headed to ‘Rose Buds at Duck Lane’, a familiar landmark and popular destination on Shefford High Street. Unfortunately it was a rainy day so we couldn’t sit outside and watch the world go by, so we headed inside to find a table. Inside, the cafe is beautifully decorated, with large ornate chandeliers and exposed wooden beams and interesting artefacts and signs on the walls and shelves. It certainly has that vintage cafe and tea room look and feel about it. One thing we noted is that there’s lots of space with plenty of tables and chairs and you don’t feel cramped at all, ideal for pushchairs or wheelchair users. Moving onto breakfast, Rose Buds offers a large range of breakfast and brunch options, including both vegetarian and vegan. All the ingredients are locally sourced. Andrew ordered the vegetarian ciabatta melt from the ‘Brunch Favourites’ section of the menu and John ordered the 'RB Brunch Bagel', a black board special. The vegetarian ciabatta melt consisted of mushrooms, tomato, spinach, grilled cheese and a fried egg on top of a ciabatta with melted cheese. It looked as delicious as it tasted. The RB Brunch Bagel contained rocket, bacon, egg with chilli jam in a bagel. It was so nice! Just what was needed before heading off for delivery duties. We also ordered coffees, a flat white and a latte and up on the large black board we had to chuckle at the “No nonsense coffee guide”. The staff are lovely and our friendly waitresses Georgia and Abby served us well. We also got to chat to Harley, the owner, who took on the cafe in July 2017, who explained that the cafe is very popular for baby showers and afternoon teas. There are so many good things at Rose Buds; the tempting Homemade Cake Station and the handy Children’s Station, stocked full of pens, paper, books and games; perfect for keeping toddlers occupied whilst mum & dad can relax for 5 minutes whilst enjoying a cup of coffee. The perfect place for breakfast, brunch or afternoon tea!

Popped in this morning whilst waiting for a car repair. Waited a while to be served whilst standing at the counter, and then waited about 20 minutes to be served a half empty bap costing £6.90, which contained 3 thin slices of halloumi, an egg and what seemed like a bag of spinach. There was non existent sriracha mayonnaise but there was mayonnaise on one half and sriracha sauce on the other. The bap despite being advertised as warm was cold. Surely the size of the bread should match the portion of food inside? Waited a further 15 minutes for my drink, whilst people ordering after me had larger drink orders delivered before mine. Totally over priced

Only available tables were outside, with one or two people taking up four seater tables inside. More two seater tables inside would be a good idea. Toast was great, mushrooms undercooked and tomatoes not cooked at all, although it appears the second was deliberate. Hash browns homemade with cheese, which I found odd. Beans were nice and and hot the haloumi was nice. Not everything was to my taste, but overall it was good. Cute tea pots and cups and saucers.

Having eaten here before the staff are friendly and accommodating to vegans. They’ve expanded and created a vegan menu. They have some great warming and caffeine-free latte drinks added to the menu including beetroot, turmeric and cacao. I had the beetroot one and it was delicious. They made it vegan from a choice of soya, coconut and oatley barista. Friendly to my dietary requirements the staff always had welcoming smiles and nothing was too much of an issue. Unfortunately they’ve added vegan choices to their delicious cake stand, so a bit more exercise after an enjoyable visit here might be required.

Family visit today for a quick lunch. Ordered scones with cream and jam for pudding, could not believe they microwaved the scones to warm them through! Lovely place to go out and have breakfast or coffee and cake at the weekend. Pleasant staff and a good full english breakfast, plenty of choice too on different variants of breakfast which was good. Highly recommended. Cake is made on the premises and so many to choose from! Only downside I would say is there is a kids place area in the middle of the restaurant on the floor so can be noisy and a bit hazardous with the toys everywhere! Staff very good there and tidy them away as soon as they have left. Very reasonably priced too.

This was our second visit to this shabby chic cafe in the small town of Shefford. We went at lunchtime and expected it to be busy, which it was but far too busy for the amount of staff they had working. The table was cleared after we say down but the staff needed reminding to wipe it clean. We ordered 2 items to eat, one nacho and a soup. I had nearly finished the nachos before the soup had arrived, not nice when there's only 2 eating. When we came to paying, we were standing there for the best part of 5 minutes before being acknowledged. The food was good, restaurant looks nice but the standard of service was poor. Visited on a Saturday afternoon, asked if they had a table available for five and if dogs were allowed in. Waitress reluctantly asked her manager if dogs were allowed, and said they were as long as they are well behaved. At this point we felt uncomfortable by the waitress's unwelcoming attitude and were made to feel like we would be a great inconvenience had we taken the dog in, so decided to keep the dog in the car, despite him being well behaved. We asked for a table for five, and the same, miserable waitress was again reluctant to accommodate, and said there was only a table for four. When we pointed out that we could simply pop a chair on the end of the table, the waitress said we could but she might need the chair back as they had a baby shower party booked. However, the baby shower table was already set and chairs were already placed for it. Furthermore, there were plenty of empty, unused chairs on the shop floor and outside the cafe. The waitress unnecessarily made an issue out of our two simple requests.Once the waitress had 'ever-so-kindly' gone out of her way to retrieve an empty chair from the neighbouring table, we were finally seated. The service was slow but we eventually ordered. The food was average, the sandwich bread was dry and the salad did not come with the dressing as advertised. Two members of our party ordered the sandwich and cake combo but were forced to get up from the table and find a waitress to request the cake as no staff had come to check on us, and no staff were on the shop floor. The slither of cake was tasty but unsatisfactorily skinny, which is disappointing considering it is a tea and cake shop. Trying to pay the bill was a nightmare. We waited by the till for a while as no one had come to clear our plates etc, we finally noticed a waitress on the shop floor but she ignorantly walked straight past us (and an elderly couple by the door waiting to be seated) and took a seat with what I can only assume were her family and decided to sip on a cup of coffee. We had to approach the seated waitress and ask if she was working so we could pay the bill. With no apology she confirmed she was working and reluctantly got up to process the bill with a huff and an eye roll. We had to repeat everything we had ordered as there was no record of it, which seemed unorganised. The miserable, unfriendly, unaccommodating staff desperately need training in how to give good customer service, and the cafe could benefit by employing more staff so there is actually someone on the shop floor at all times who is attentive to customers. The gift shop sold overpriced tat which could be bought at The Range for significantly less.Overall, a poor experience.

The service was astonishingly shocking. The waitress on the shop floor was sitting at a table with her friends. She got up to serve 2 coffees to some customers, looked at me standing at the till waiting to pay, turned round and went to the kitchen, came back with a coffee for herself totally blanking me still standing right in front of her at the till and sat down again with her friends. I went up and asked if she was working still... she sighed and begrudgingly got up to take my payment. The food was ok...distinctly average. Bread from the sandwiches slightly dried out. The salad with 'home made dressing' arrived.. without the dressing. Perhaps a blessing in disguise. The manager seemed pleasant when she was around but she really did need to spend more time on the shop floor and far more time training her staff.

We have just moved to Shefford so thought we would try out this place as it's just my type of cafe - cute and quirky. When we arrived someone was just leaving a table so we grabbed it and ordered a cream tea, a hot chocolate and a bowl of chips. After we had ordered the waitress told us that the kitchen was busy so the food would be a short while, which we were fine with. After 40 minutes, our food came out. If we were waiting for a full meal I may have accepted this wait time but everyone else had long got their food on their tables so I couldn't understand what had taken that long. When the food did come out, my scone was cold, not even warmed after I had waited so long for it and I had finished my tea! I didn't want to ask for it to be warmed in case I had to wait a long time again. The chips were okay but they tasted a bit cheap. It would have been nice to have been offered a fresh drink for the long wait, but the staff didn't seem bothered and they weren't overly friendly. We didn't get an apology for the long wait either. I was also over charged as I got charged for a cream tea and a pot of tea on top of that, when it should have been one inclusive price. All in all, I think this place has a great menu and has a lot of potential but we felt a bit let down by our visit. We won't be rushing back unfortunately.

After seeing good reviews on trip advisor me and my girlfriend thought we would visit during our break. When we entered we was behind a trio of people who eventually left after waiting for a long time to be seated (this was a sign), we then waited a while to then be told to take a seat where ever we wanted (if i knew this then i would not of been standing for as long as i did).We where waiting to be served when another group came in after us and sat down at a table opposite us who then got served before us! instead of them being polite and stating we were next they ordered, could not believe the waitress, not once did she even acknowledge we was waiting and for big periods disappeared altogether. After she came back out and still ignored us (it was like we were ghosts) we got up and walked out.Didn't make a complaint as if we stayed i doubt things would of improved.Note to the management (if they read this) if you can't handle the turnaround of customers.....employ more people, it's not rocket science.

My friend and I visit this cafe every Tuesday. Have done for months. Their food is lovely especially the quiches. The staff are very nice and I love the old furniture. A must if you have friends or family....or simply just a naughty bit of cake.

Have just moved to the area two weeks ago and have already been here three times! I can see if being a regular haunt of mine now. The staff have been friendly and helpful each time, the I love all the quirky little signs and products they sell, it's a gorgeous little venue. When the food came the first time we just tried the cakes and children had milkshake, they loved that it arrived in their own teapot with little teacups, my Pepsi came in a mason jar, made them chuckle. So far between us we've had salted caramel, mint aero, Nutella, blueberry and lemon cake along with rocky road!!! All to die for. Savoury food is also lovely but I would've like a tad more ham on the Brie n ham sandwich but as they did an open version for me which is wasn't meant to be I think that I can let that slide! Would highly recommend.

We were looking for somewhere to eat before the cinema across the road that would be quick, relaxed and have something for the kids. This fitted the bill. It’s quite a small space and very busy. We were lucky to get a table as a couple made some space for us as we were about to leave.Really bright and airy with a nice relaxed feel. We all ordered something different to eat and it was pretty good. I had the special crab sandwich and being honest it was a little dry and could have done with a little more filling – but the wife and kids food was exceptional so probably me being picky! Had a bit of food envy when the scones came out to other tables – especially the savoury ones. Out little boys loved it here and that for us is a sign of a great place.

I have been past Martha's tearoom many times but never stopped before so this was my first visit. The staff where very friendly and helpful nothing was to much trouble. My wife and son both had jacket potatoes with ham and cheese and I had a cheese and ham platter.we also had a child's meal deal. All the food tasted really nice. But the two jacket potatoes where just a little to small and slightly hard inside.my platter was really nice with plenty of variety.cheese, ham, salad, small picked onions, pickle, and small bite size pieces of bread.the child's meal deal was also good to with the novel idea of a small tea pot and cup and saucer filled with orange squash for them to help them self to.i would recommend to my friends and I would go again.

Lovely place in Shefford. Stopped in on my own for lunch and a drink. Ordered a jacket potato (to find there were none left) however the lady kindly offered to sort one out and it was out at my table quite quickly. Lots of filling and a nice salad. Prices reasonable and was relaxing to sit on your own. Homemade cakes available but I didn't have room!Gift shop with some cards and gifts - also stocks chalk paint for those DIY projects.

This is a lovely vintage tea room with a beautiful eclectic mix of china and décor. It is a great place to relax and chat whilst sampling their delicious lunches and cakes, all home made and fresh. I visit here whenever I am in the area and have the time as it rejuvenates and revitalises me with its comfortable and relaxed feel. The staff are lovely and so helpful. Well worth a visit. There is a big free car park behind this tea room. Drive past the tea room with it on your right, take the next right and follow the road round. Then, once parked, the tea room is right there, just 10 steps away. Fabulous!

A bit old worldly and inclined to be cluttered with furniture. Main users when I visited were elderly. Prices about average with nothing outstanding to commend it. We did not recognise the place from the outside as being an eatery as it looked more like the adjacent second hand shop, Clean.

Called in the other day for lunch don't go that often but it is away a nice experience, the staff are so friendly, and it is so cute - my daughter thinks it is like sitting in a dolls house, well it's not that small but so cosy, the food is very good, makes a great change from the coffee shop chains. You must book now or inside you may not find a seat. The best time of course to go is a lovely summer day and sit in the pretty garden. If you are close by and haven't tried it you really should if you enjoy that bit of nostalgia.

What a lovely morning spent at Martha's. Friendly, welcoming staff and Delicious food. 'I had the hot sandwich and my partner had the hot roast roll. I can recommend both. We then were tempted by the variety of home made cakes. I tried the new salted caramel cake and my partner had the lemon cake, both delicious. Glad to see the new upgraded look, which was desperately needed. This is now a pleasant place to visit. The gift shop also had very interesting gifts. Good luck to the new owner who only opened her doors a month ago.

Went yesterday with my wife as we had been many times with previous owners. We sat down and didn't know how to order. Did we need to go to counter? Or will they come to us? Whilst waiting, we looked at the menu and apparently the breakfast menu finished at 11.30. Trouble was I didn't know where the breakfast menu finished. The menu seemed very expensive for a tea room. If I paid that much I would have gone somewhere else where we didn't feel crammed in by people queueing at the till, and those trying to squeeze past them to leave. The whole experience seemed very confusing. We actually left without ordering and I don't think anybody knew we came, or left. Someone giving attention to those arriving would not go amiss. Will not return.

Stopped by for a sandwich last week, sat out in the sunshine and watched the world go by.My wife and I both ordered sandwiches, served with salad or coleslaw and crisps.Quality of food was good, fresh, nicely prepared, quantity/size of servings a little conservative, pricing reasonable. The staff were attentive and made a good effort, if I was being persnickety, I'd say perhaps the staff should have uniforms (as I am pretty sure a vintage tea room would have) rather than an adidas tracksuit top, if they want to make the experience completely authentic but otherwise very pleased with our visit.

I have to agree with some of the recent comments here about Martha's. We went there today and paid quite a lot, considering we only had two sandwiches and two small pots of tea. The sandwiches came with crisps, but these are presented in a tiny teacup, so when tipped out we only got a few of them. The sandwich was nothing special, and the tea is made from teabags, not loose tea as I would've preferred to see in a vintage tearoom. We wanted a cake afterwards as we still felt hungry after the small portions we had been served, but the cake selection was very poor. Perhaps it was because it is a Monday? We didn't bother in the end. Shame really, this could be such a lovely little café and it is in a good position. But it seems that no-one really can be bothered to make it any better, perhaps because they do well enough with passing trade anyway. Won't hurry back - there are two vintage tearooms in St Neots, not that far away from Martha's, and the quality of these places is something that Martha's should be aspiring to. If they don't want to bother with a quality offering, then please get the prices down, to be more reflective of what you are giving people!

Took my mum here on Saturday for Mother's Day, we were quickly seated but was then waiting a while to be given a menu. We were told that the only cake left was Victoria sponge (I thought this was poor given that it was only 2.30pm). We both went for the sandwich/cake combo and a pot of tea. We were disappointed with the following:- After ordering we then had someone ask what we'd like- Tea stains in the tea cups- Half a baguette was really a 'slice' of baguette- Filling in baguette was about a spoonful- Pipers crisps became nachos- Cake was an extremely thin slither (gone in 3 mouthfuls)- On paying we had to go through what we'd ordered- Not value for money: £16!Although it's a nice atmosphere I'm afraid I will not be hurrying back. I suggest portion sizes, stock levels and customer service are reviewed.

recently returned from Melia Tortuga beach hotel sal in cape verde to classify this hotel as 5star thomsons is a travesty. at best it is only a 3 star the accommodation was clean and linen changed daily the staff were pleasant but not very helpful the weather was good although very windy, which resulted in sand blasting if you ventured onto the beach The food was in the main inedible and usually cold. Summing up if planet earth needed a enema the tube would surely go in the middle of cape verde.Billy boy

We booked afternoon tea for four about a week in advance, this was dealt with by the event organiser who couldn't have been more helpful, When we arrived the staff were waiting for us and conducted us to the old library where a single table was prepared for us. We had expected to be in the restaurant and to have a private room was a real treat. Our party included a vegetarian and a gluten intolerant guest. The Chef had prepared separate plates of sandwiches for these two as well as a seperate stand of glutent free cakes. There was a good variety of sandwiches which were obviously freshly prepared and well presented, the cakes and sweets were varied and excellent. The service was A1 and unobtrusive, fresh tea being brought in on request. We all really ate too much, but the food was so nice we just had to clear the plates :-) A very special afternoon for us and we shall return. We do enjoy an afternoon tea when we can ~ our overall service experience here was far better then at Woburn, much quieter and personal than that at Frosts at Willington and better service and fresher food than the at the Swan in Bedford,

If you are looking for refined then this is not for you. The Bedford room is somewhat drab and to be frank needs a good clean. I was sat next to the window cill which has a few ornaments which had clearly not be dusted or washed down for some time. I appreciate that spiders can spin webs through the summer very quickly but this genuinely needs a good clean. When the room is not clean this makes me query what else is not clean! Having pre booked this tea for a girlfriends birthday I could not fault the afternoon tea itself. The sandwiches had a good amount of filling and the scones were light for me, perfect. The cake selection for someone who is dairy free was great and the service was also good. There is an excellent selection of quality teas and other drinks too. Overall I would of liked to give a very good rating for the tea itself as it was lovely but the surroundings and cleanliness really let this down and it could be so easily rectified.
