Great food. Good prices, rapidly becoming a regular haunt

Just had an amazing evening here with friends. Four of us had food which was absolutely gorgeous. The portions were generous and the food was hot and tasty. The service was excellent too. Ethan, the manager looked after us so well, he was so welcoming and very helpful. Flo served our food and was attentive throughout our meal. We sat in the outside area which has a relaxed and cosy vibe. Good selection of drinks available too. Thank you for a wonderful evening, we will definitely be eating here again soon

Tantalising menu and a good range of beers, all served with a smile. The pub itself has beautiful rooms handsomely decorated and a well furnished beer garden. Well behaved dogs welcome!

Charged for a cocktail that was diluted massively with soda we took it back twice as you could taste it was diluted, to be told it is as it should be. It's my go to drink so you'd think I'd know. Wouldn't listen and didn't care, happy to skip off with your money.

Tasty home cooked, nicely presented food, warm atmosphere & great service. The outdoor bar area looked lovely with fairy lights & greenery but typical British summer weather had put a dampener on sitting out there this evening!

Been to the Queens several times recently but something different tonight. Pizza was totally different than before, more akin to an "iceland" £3 bargain item than I have had before. Service was very slow and the pub was pretty empty. Had to leave table and ask for drinks and leave table to pay bill. Nobody asked how my food had been and no tip, I guess there is the answer? Disappointing as its my closest place but I guess I will go somewhere else next time, shame.

Ate here they took payment twice now telling me I have to wait 3 days for the refund to show strange when the payment comes out immediately why does it take so long for the refund. Good not great won’t bother again

Haven't eaten here yet but the food does look very good. Been coming here for years but this present landlord seems to be making a success of the place. Definitely one to try if you haven't been yet.

Nice pub. But £30 for a bottle of coop Prosecco. Is that legal? They tried to take the label from the top of the bottle to hid it? Absolutely disgusting really. Will not go back

Staff very friendly & answered our question about how well done the Roast Beef was, which was delicious & tender, yorkie was huge, nice veg & Roasties,but Parsnip was a bit under cooked for our liking but that is a personal choice, we were offered extra Gravey which was very nice. We had puddings too, Berry Crumble which was full of lovely Berries, & my two friends had Biscoffie Cheese cake which they said was yummy. The pub is nicely decorated & lovely & Old. Can recommend & will definitely be back. Thank you.

Waited 40 minutes to get our meal, wasn't busy at all, when we got our food "cold". For the 1st time ever I sent it back, waitresses very apologetic, not there fault Paid for drinks and left

When staying in the area I telephoned to book a table for 2. My wife ordered a rib eye steak, which she enjoyed. My choice of the Katsu Chicken Curry, described as “crispy coating “, crispy is was not. It was limp and soggy. I ate 2 of the 5 strips of coated chicken. The curry sauce was minimal. I asked for more sauce hoping that the meal would improve. It didn’t. I asked for it to be taken away. I was offered a replacement. I declined. We left. Asleep at our hotel I woke with severe stomach pains. Rushing to the toilet I vomitted for an hour, seeing pieces of chicken flush down the pan. Phoning Environmental Health today, I was asked if I had taken a stool sample. I said that I had not thought of it at 2am in the morning. The chef and his staff need educating. The Queens Head have my number. I don’t expect a “how are you?” call.

We really enjoyed our lunch here today. The fish and chips was superb, with a great beer to wash it down and steak, egg and chips got two big thumbs up too. Everyone gets a warm welcome with great service and we'll be happy to return any time. I'd recommend booking to eat as the pub is very popular and very busy. A nice place for a nice meal and the young bar staff are a great example of how it should be done.

Really nice pub, food was really tasty and reasonably priced, decent beers, wine was excellent value, and the service was extremely polite; I would definitely return!

Called in for lunch on Easter Saturday, from being greeted by the young lady behind the bar who was really pleasant and polite, to the food and drinks, everything was first class and will definitely return for food, will also plan to have a day in the beer garden when the weather is right.

Good pints of ale, staff friendly i bet in the summer when the beer garden is open its even better. Fairly small inside with people dining and sometimes a little too loud with locals volume but overall good pub.

It's an extremely nice place to visit, I've given a 5star for the atmosphere but it wasn't busy by any means but just nice enough to enjoy a good conversation over a meal without worrying who can listen in ha ha. Food and service was amazing and I'd definitely recommend the onion soup for a starter... To die for!

See @Derby_diners on instagram for full review. Visited on a Monday night. We reserved a table and was by the ‘fire’ which was nice. Chef’s special scotch egg starter was amazing - served hot and runny and i took half home as it was massive (larger than a standard supermarket scotch egg) It was burger night so we had a burger and pint for £16 each. Although on checking the bill at the end only one pint had gone through on the offer which was slightly annoying but never mind. Burgers were good - not amazing but how do you make a burger amazing? Would have preferred a load more chipotle sauce on my chicken burger as couldn’t taste it but enjoyed overall. Fries had a nice seasoning and the coleslaw was tasty. Would return.

Great Sunday dinner, especially the beef and cauliflower cheese. Very welcoming and attentive staff, where nothing was too much trouble.

Last minute decision and was able to book a table. It was busy this evening. The team serving were really friendly- as usual and the food was spot on We had Classic Cheeseburger and Fitches Steak and Ale pie both were very tasty. Really pleasant local pub.

We’ve been here a few times and always enjoyed the food and the fact it’s family and dog friendly. Our table was booked at 5.45pm and it took 2 hours to get our dinner. We had a 3yr old with us who was bouncing off the walls by this time and also 2 tired babies. When the food came it was disappointing. We spoke to the waiter several times about the delays and disappointing food and he kept us updated on food times. When it came to paying there was no money taken off the bill. We won’t be coming back in a hurry - shame!

Today has been the the fourth time we've visited (Lunch time.) They offer the full menu and a lighter lunch menu which is great. I have also visited for Sunday lunch and I must say that the service and food are fantastic! We were warmly greeted and sat at our usual table (table 6) and the food, which is clearly cooked fresh to order, does take a little time but is absolutely worth the wait. Thank you Queens Head. We will be returning in the future 😊

Very good enjoyable Sunday lunch with a lovely side of cauliflower cheese. Even enjoyed by a very fussy two year old. Service prompt and always with a smile. What a difference this makes. Only reason not a 5* was a soggy Yorkshire soaked in gravy - gravy served separately would be preferable. Would happily recommend and return.

We took our sons and thier families to The Queen Head today for Sunday lunch. The young man that served us was lovely, everything ordered at the table on a little note pad with pen ( a lovely touch ) . The food was delicious and served on hot plates , extra Yorkshire puddings and roasties offered . There were 9 of us, all meals arrived in quick succession. The pub was very busy with a lovely chilled atmosphere we will definitely go again and highly recommend it.

Food average quality. Staff were young and untrained. Long gaps between courses. Also when questioned about the flatbread quality waiter confirmed it was not home made.

Amazing pub with fantastic food and great beer selection

It has been a while since visiting the Queen's Head so took the plunge with a mid week visit and was surprised how busy the place was. The pub has had a bit of makeover since our last visit and it is looking fabulous, again not a fan of large menus but in for a penny and decided to share a starter and dessert with a main sandwiched between. Food is well presented, tasty and a good portion size, there is a sign saying food is cooked fresh so were quite happy with the time between courses. Staff are welcoming and friendly and service was excellent, all in all a very pleasant evening.

Booked in advance as not been before for a birthday meal on arrival was seated on a table near to the door, we were the only table in the restaurant room was absolutely freezing had to sit with coats on went to bar to get drinks teenagers were messing aboutin the bar area running around guess they lived there but seemed a bit unprofessional!!, In the bar area there was a fire and it was warm we asked if we could be moved (only one table was occupied), server said yes it is cold where your sitting no other tables came in during are meal!!, on the upside the meals were absolutely beautiful could not fault them at all steak was divine, and server was lovely... I would of given a 5* apart from the seating and it being cold will definitely be returning as can not fault the meal one bit.

We booked here as 7 mums with 7 babies which is not easy to accommodate. The lad who welcomed us in could not have been nicer. He was so kind to us all and we really felt welcomed and wanted. Nothing seemed too much trouble. The food was very nice and I would happily come again and will also be recommending to others. Thanks!

Following on from a staff lunch we had pre booked the meals so the restaurant were aware of the meals including one choice of a food intolerancance gluten free choice When i arrived at the bar i went and i asked about my choice to ensure it was gluten free and was assured it was gluten free. When the food arrived i was informed the meal gluten free sweet chilli hollumi on gluten free bread I started to eat the food after eating it 1/3 of the food I was told i was eating a non gluten free meal it was whisked from under me and a nother meal placed down on the table i expressed to staff how ill this would make me they said sorry that was it i went to the bar again raised my concerns again no real worries from the staff i carry 2 epi pens and they had no real understanding of the issues caused or reality of the problem ALL STAFF NEED TRAINING THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A FULL REACTION anaphylaxis is unpleasant and a sorry really does not cut it wheen a hospital stay and serious medical treatment is required lucily as i carry medication and epi pens i did not require it on this occasion.

Went in for a quick bit of food and a drink while waiting for my car to be fixed. I had a simple queen of burgers but it wasn't simple it was delicious the sides of onion rings and slaw were beautiful and fresh. It was a quality burger and fries the staff were very professional and polite and I was made to feel welcomed. I will definitely be returning and soon

We had booked to eat with another couple but they got snowed on so we went alone. I'm glad they didn't join us. The food, when it eventually arrived over 40 minutes after we ordered, was excellent. The problem, other than the slow service, was that we seemed to have been seated in a nursery. We were surrounded by couple with young babies under 12 months old and kids under 5. If I go to a pub for a meal I want a pub experience not to feel like I can't speak too loudly or use the odd profanity for fear of waking or upsetting the pre school clientele in the pub. Perhaps if they offer an adults only session and get more staff in the kitchen we may go back but that won't be any time soon

Only letdown was slow service even though we were told of a wait it actually was a longer wait than advised - order as soon as possible - we delayed cos of chatting....

Lovely food ,would definitely recommend

Called in on way from work and so pleased we did! Excellent selection of wines: Rioja was delicious! Decided to eat; again, excellent selection on menu. Shared a (massive!) scotch egg which was well presented and absolutely delicious. Followed by soft, melt in the mouth belly pork on black pudding mash (mmmmm mmmmm!). Really lovely friendly atmosphere and all staff really pleasant, helpful and friendly. Were it not for an early start on the Saturday morning, would have been most tempted to try and work way through that wine selection :-) Cannot recommend highly enough!

I didn't book had a table for lunch straight away The waitress came as we Sat down,give me the chance to go choose my meal main course Roast lamb,veg was already on the plate. The first time I had Yorkshire pudding with lamb, son was eager to take it, an extra I enjoyed was Cauliflower cheese! I didn't have dessert, very full

Food order was wrong Not particularly enjoyable For myself. However, two colleagues did enjoy . Staff kept me waiting a long time to receive me my bill Overall, not a nice experience

It was our first time visiting The Queen's Head, but definitely not the last time. We decided to visit to watch the SA rugby finals and Tim the manager was amazing! It is one of the only places that would allow teens after 8pm. He could not do enough for us. The staff were very friendly and even though the place was busy we were served quickly. Often the toilets are forgotten about in some pubs, but if you have a household full of women then you know the cleanliness of the toilets are very important. The toilets were very clean & lots of plants.

Went with my son’s for a birthday meal, first meet was a warm welcome, drinks and food were lovely especially the special starter, salmon bites with spicy salsa. Highly recommend coming and trying 5⭐️.

Myself and my wife came here spur of the moment fancying somewhere different. We were not disappointed the staff were very nice and the food was amazing, we both had Steak egg and chips and we felt was not over priced. Compliments to the Landlord, Chef, and all the staff. We will return.

Amazing food lovely menu to suit everyone. We had the two steaks and drink special. Steaks for amazing and cut like butter choice of either salad or chips big thanks to all the staff and our waitress Abbie. ( sorry no photo we tucked in and polished it off before remembering 😀)

The food is the star we went for the Thursday night Tapas. (We keep going back for this ) it's popular, you have to book at least a month ahead. My wife is gluten intolerant, there's always a good selection on the menu for her to chose from. The folks looking after us are always freindly and attentive without being over the top, it's almost like visiting friends. It's a lovely atmosphere to eat in. It's not the cheapest place in Ilkeston but worth every penny. We have already booked for next the next one.

Lovely clean well decorated with a great atmosphere and top notch food and drink, would highly recommend a visit it is only a stones throw from derby. You will not be disappointed!!!!

Ordered a cider, was given an alcohol free one for some reason. I had it as it's just the taste I'm after anyway. My friend also ordered a drink and was charged 70p more than the listed price. Again, hey ho, paid it but mentioned the fact to the bar staff. Very strange.

A beautiful cosy place to enjoy your time. Very friendly staff and nice food. The only drawback is time of waiting for food. We had to wait for about 45 min.

10 pieces of chicken in a cm of sauce with a mound of steamed rice, no veg, was supposed to be a thia curry, very poor show after a 40 minute wait, my partner ate on her own as i sent it back and refused an alternative as it would have taken to long to be served, great Saturday night out, went home hungry, totally embarrassed as we had to complain in front of other diners, hate having to complain, it shouldn't happen !!!

5 of us sat in the beautiful garden/ court yard for a birthday lunch. It was so relaxing. We only waited about 30 minutes for our food which was less than I expected as there were quite a lot of diners. 3 had flat breads, one had ribs and I had a small fish & chips. The food was delicious with generous portions & chips to die for. Highly recommended.

Called in on 18/07/23 12.05pm nobody in the pub I know early.Asked about food was given menu I enquired if the pie was home made was told it was to find it was from butchers next door. Waited ages for food and had to ask where it was. Food very average the wife had a chicken schnitzel panini which was awfull and dry. Shall not use again

Called in on a Monday night for dinner with my lad. Staff were attentive and welcoming. I ordered garlic tiger prawns but as I'm not eating bread at the moment I asked if I could have salad instead of the ciabatta which was no problem at all. My lad ordered the texan pizza which looked fantastic when it arrived. My prawns were delicious and we both really enjoyed our food. Great place, lovely friendly staff and very tasty food.

We had our wedding party at the Queens Head last week and it was absolutely fantastic. Tim and Jorja and their amazing staff team went above and beyond to make sure our afternoon/evening went without a hitch. The food was amazing, everyone raved and are still raving about it, the staff were so attentive and the decorations and surroundings looked fabulous. The rain came down mid way through the party so the majority had to move inside but I hardly noticed as everything was done for us, so quickly. Everyone that was there was blown away about the fabulous pub, staff and food and we can’t thank you enough for making it all so special for us.

The Owners, Tim and Georgia and the manager Ethan and staff and locals make you feel very welcome. The service is great and the food from chef Ben was excellent. They accommodated a group of us at short notice. It was so good that large group of us came back the next night. Live music on Friday night. Make sure you ask after Tom (the local). Tells some great stories.

We arrived 1st night, no booking, Australia Over 60’s cricket team visiting to play England, 18 for dinner and they couldn’t have welcomed us anymore than they did, lovely meals, great atmosphere, it was so good we went back the next night, this time 30 of us, we pre ordered to make it easier on Tim and team and the night was a great success, meals, drinks and live music for us to have a fabulous night, couldn’t praise them any higher.

The Queens Head is an attractive village pub. Everards ales are reasonably well kept. Good menu and the food is very tasty. Service can be slow. Nice atmosphere and cheerful barstaff.

Very disappointed. We ordered a bottle of Merlot we were told they didn't have a full one but had one with a bit out! obviously we declined that and chose an alternative. After we ordered we waited an hour for four meals there were only two other tables in at the time. both me and my mum chose the seafood linguini. It was awful it contained frozen fish and honestly you had to rummage through the pasta to find any. My sister had the gammon and it was dry. Only one member of staff was on very young and was doing everything. Very polite but we wouldn't recommend eating here

Having written to the Queens Head manager via their own website a week ago & not receiving any reply whatsoever, I felt we should share our bad experience now as a review. We booked a table for 8:30pm for 4 people, Sat 1st July '23 by telephone. Upon arriving at around 8:00pm, we were told the kitchen was closed & they'd run out of food, but nobody had tried to contact us & the bar person seemed very disinterested & dismissive of this situation. At this time on a Saturday it's impossible to go another pub & eat, ruining our Saturday evening plans. We have eaten at The Queens Head on many occasions on a Saturday evening & have always enjoyed the food & ambience. It was the Little Eaton carnival, so busy during the day, but the booking was taken regardless. This 'couldn't care less customer service' seems to be the norm now in the UK, we can blame Covid-19 but pubs just want to do the absolute minimum & wonder why they struggle for business & are forced to close. We are unlikely to patronising this pub again under the current management & will share our awful experience with our friends, family etc.

Went for a meal here, there was 17 of us. All got our meals together. Food, Service and Staff were great.

Great atmosphere, friendly staff, live music on the night we visited, amazing food, the only down side was people with dogs taking up too much room and fighting dogs in the pub.

Fab pub with great choice of real ales. Not the cheapest but worth the price. Didn't try the food as we had a meal booked elsewhere, but menu looked good! Dog friendly, with a nice relaxed vibe and an eclectic mix of customers. Staff were all very friendly too!
