Had a lovely stay. Was here to see Joseph Arthur in this wonderful setting. Traditional English pub with fantastic views of surrounding countryside.

Lovely little pub just 20m on the bus away from Bath city. I went there with friends to celebrate my 21st! Great vibes, good drinks. We stayed the night there and although there is some noise from the main road, the owner provides you with ear plugs so no problem there. Perfect for a little getaway. Would recommend!

Fully recommend and will definitely be back. This is a quintessentially proper English pub. Great selection of real ales and other beverages. Great landlord and bar staff who we found extremely pleasant and accommodating. The accommodation was comfortable and in a great location. The outside space is lovely with views over the cricket ground. The outside space had a very relaxed feel and there was plenty of space to sit and enjoy the surroundings. We felt very welcome during our stay and will definitely be returning. Thank you for a great couple of nights.

Went in here for some last minute drinks with a friend. Walked up to the bar and asked what IPA’s they have. Unbeknownst to me the Landlord was sitting next to the bar and was for some reason rude to me because I’d asked for an IPA. He said something like - ‘We only have English beers here’ or ‘No - you can drink an English beer’ and the whole pub went quiet like ‘wtf has just happened’?! I felt SO taken aback and like ‘what did I do to deserve this’ that I was literally in shock. I’m never going here again - and I’ll be telling everyone I know this story about this guy and advising them to never go here. Credit to the barman on duty who kind of apologised for him, tho he shouldn’t have to - and it should be the Landlord apologising. Unbelievable.

Coming out of a pandemic, and visiting a local pub is a daunting prospect. But Dean & Damo have worked their socks off! The outside environment it’s not only beautiful, but very well designed to keep customers safe. Watching the football there this week has been brilliant, but unfortunately the staff had to deal with some difficult customers who didn’t respect the social distancing rules, and felt it was ok to kick over furniture, shout, & swear during the match. The landlord managed the situation very well, and was within his rights to remind customers of the rules not only at the pub but the government guidelines. Thank you for thinking of your customers on the whole, rather then just allowing a few to spoil things. Friday night BBQ night is also fab, with fresh homemade burgers made by the butcher in Box and popped on the BBQ or made in the kitchen if the weather is bad. If you are looking for a traditional, local pub with a family friendly atmosphere and lovely views- this is it! However if it’s a busy, loud sports bar with lots of shouting and swearing and staff that don’t care…. you will need to find another pub!

The bar manager here may be the most petulant egoistical Chap I've ever come across. Watched the football here, and he proceeded to turn the TV off after England scored and scalded at the occupants like a 58 year old Karen fuming at a 2 years old walking on her grass. I enquired as to why he turned it off at the half time whistle. He lied and stated 'furniture was being thrown' it wasn't at all, I will concede a few very cheap outdoor chair fell over as everyone was basking in the euphoria. That was it though. After confirming this wasn't the case he got mighty defensive knowing he was wrong (fragile ego indeed), and threatened to throw us all out...even after he accepted no chairs were thrown. Plenty of other nice pubs. Don't waste your money with a man who may be the most childish 60+ year old I've ever encountered. Pints are also flat 👍 and burgers stuck in the microwave. Nice view of the box wreck mind.

Standard of accommodation very low. We expected to share a bathroom however on the first visit were met by a discustingly dirty toilet bowl having been left by a previous user who hadn't cleaned their mess!!!.We reported this and kindly asked staff to sanitise the toilet as we were not prepared to use it. The room was not clean, furniture broken and unusable, skirting boards dirty, bar of soap had dirt in it and hand soap was heavily diluted with water with no label. No cups although tea bags, sugar and kettle were provided. Bed linen and towels were clean. See pictures.

A delightful country pub in the beautiful village of Box! A rare find of a traditional pub set up with excellent live music events. They’ve got a traditional pub menu, nothing fancy but with some great homemade items. We had the quiche and it was delicious! Had a great guest ale of Mango Ipa too. Would highly recommend this place if you’re a fan of the traditional pub with a friendly atmosphere that makes you feel at home. Will continue to visit again when we’re next down here!

Old fashioned inside. Not a great choice of beer. The ones we did choose weren’t well kept and tasted horrible. Could be quite nice on a warm day outside but aside from that I wouldn’t go back.

Used this pub on 3 consecutive nights . Always had the same round £6.00 for a pint and half of cider. Attended for the last England game where I also ordered food at £18.00. with my usual drinks. However I was served by an older lady (may have been the landlady) whose customer service and hospitality skills left a lot to be desired. Mysteriously the drinks cost an extra 50p. I thought nothing of it at the time thinking the pub may have raised its prices to cash in on the football. however upon ordering further rounds throughout the evening at £6.00 it became apparent that the lady who originally served me had just added on another 50p. I wonder how many other unsuspecting non regular clients this may have been done to? So why didn't you challenge her I hear you ask. well the reason is, I did speak to her after ordering my food and still not receiving it an hour later. I politely asked her how long our meals would be. She rudely said she had no idea and the kitchen was very busy. I explained that the reason i was asking was just to check it hadn't been missed. Her attitude in speaking to myself left a lot to be desired. No so much as a smile or apology for the wait. I Why do people work in this trade if they cant even be polite or pleasant to the people who provide the trade. Luckily it was our last night in the area otherwise we would have taken our custom elsewhere

I stayed at Lorne House in Box with friends over the weekend and had an evening in The Queen’s Head on Saturday night. We wanted some nice traditional pub grub with a few drinks. This is a great old pub with friendly staff, 5 mins up the road and great value for money. They even bought out a little cake with a candle for one of my friends whose birthday it was! Food was delicious and didn’t come out immediately which gave us a good indication that it wasn’t done in a microwave! They have a pub cat called Snowflake who was just chilling at the table with us so no dogs are allowed.

Stayed at an apartment a 2 min walk from this little gem. Box is beautiful and this cosy old fashioned pub was perfect for food after a heavy days shopping in Bath at the Christmas Market. It looks maybe a little harsh on the outside, but hungry and tired we called and asked if they did food, and told the kitchens closed at 9. We entered to a very friendly welcome from the barmaid and either owner and manager and instantly sat down and given menus and served our drinks. It was a true old fashioned english pub, the pink painted relief wallpaper on the walls, the wooden panelling on the bottom half of the wall, bench seats in the windows, red velvet on the chairs and dark wood beams and a separate bar with a pool table. It was warm cosy and welcoming we instantly felt at home as if we drank there regularly which was lovely. Considering it was a group of 4 women, ranging from 38 to 70 and we felt very at home. We ordered our food from the homely and enticing selection, being told all meat came from the butchers we had passed on the walk to the pub. We had between us steak, Daves Burger and the steak and kidney pudding. Admittedly the length of time it took to come was long, about 50 minutes, but my god was it worth it! It was all freshly cooked and the size of the rump steak and the tenderness of the meat was perfect for both the ladies who ordered it. The buyer was well seasoned and the steak and kidney pudding was in proper suet and enough for 2 and the meat was tender and gravy meaty. However the Chips, were something else, like a mix between chips and roast potatoes, we could have all eaten them till we exploded. But not the best bit, with free flowing drinks we had desert (ice cream yummy!) from a great selection, at £1.50 each, and asked for the bill. for four of us and all drinks included it was less than £70. We asked if this was right and it was. It was so good we went back the next night. The second night, the wait for food was a little longer (just over an hour), but the welcome was still good and food again didn't disappoint. Again the bill was well below £70. We believed the delay was due to the care of the cooking. As long as you know you will need to pre-order or turn up an hour before you will be hungry to order, it is perfect. The pub is so comfy the hour will pass before you know it. If I could pick the pub up and move it to the South of England I would be there most nights of the week. I will go back without hesitation. The English Old Fashioned Pub is a dying bread. Make sure you support this little gem!!

Great service from all the very friendly staff, veg lasange and lamb shank were both delicious, good choice of cheap desserts (two of us, two courses each, two drinks each, came to around £35). We seem to live in a world of pretentious wine bars and restaurants where you spend through the nose for a tiny plate of food and the staff are just waiting to get rid of you to file in the next lot of custom. This place reminds us how it's nice to sit down, relax, enjoy a good pint, eat hearty food and talk to the staff and locals about anything and everything.
