We ate here on Friday 11 Oct 2024. A lovely pub with excellent staff and service but mediocre food. My chicken wing starter was probably done in the microwave as the skin was not at all crispy and the fat was still present under skin so quite unpleasant to eat. My wife had the squid which was rubbery and a small portion. I had ham and egg main, the ham was straight out of the fridge so stone cold, chips ok My wife had the pork belly main which was in fact a lump of chewy dry pork certainly not pork belly

Myself and my girlfriend stopped here for the very first time despite living in Southwater for many years. What a great little pub and absolutely alive with atmosphere. We didnt order food but how amazing that were given complimentary crispy roast potatoes at our table. Staff came over with a smile and got our drinks rather than us getting up to the bar. Willie Austin was playing and have to say was quality, well worth a listen and just added to what was a great experience. We'll be back again :0)

Lovely traditional Sussex country pub at the centre of a close community. Lots of low beams - at different heights, so mind your head! Nooks and different areas twisting all around, good drinks with music & other events. You'll need to drive but there are a couple of areas for parking, as well as the road.

First time going to The Queens Head for a nice dinner and will probably not order to eat there ever again to be honest. Though I will say that the starters were amazing!! Specifically the Fried squid and whitebait. The tartare sauce was delightful and really light, and the batter was crispy. Not only that, but the service was a solid 10/10. Really polite and friendly, and catered to our needs swiftly. But unfortunately I was quite disappointed with my main, King Prawn and chorizo tagliatelle with some bread. Which seemed the most appealing on the menu at first, but as it was placed on the table…. There’s just no words really, the photo speaks for itself. The pasta was overcooked by a year and the prawns were just about cooked. I know I can’t expect much from pub food but still. It also came out almost less than lukewarm, but asked to heat it up and it was alright after. (Had to have my boyfriend’s Mum’s Pepper Pot Beef heated up too, and the mashed potatoes with her dish was literally just MASHED potatoes, not as creamy and soft as you’d think. Might have actually just been instant mash now that I’m thinking about it.) Nonetheless, I still didn’t eat much of my main. Would probably be best getting the Cod, Chips and Peas, as it’s the best main I’ve seen come out. Along with the Pulled Pork burger too!

Don't bother eating, really poor food we should of complained really but we where with friends. Meat feast pizza with about 6 bits of meat and so much cheese to cover the fact which in turn made it soggy. Pulled pork burger with so much bbq sauce made it inedible. Mediterranean pasta with just a few olive and tomatoes which arrived about 10 minutes after everyone else's meals. Extremely disappointing as we were supposed to go back new years eve.

Lovely old pub. One large, beamed, bar. Excellent ales, menu looked good. Nice welcoming smile from the young lady behind the bar (makes such a difference when you first enter don't you think!!). Beams are low, I'm 6ft 4 but fine for normal heights 😊 One large bar, log fire, tables for dining, armchairs and sofas for relaxed drinking. So relaxing my partner felt so comfortable she suggested we have another drink. A must visit if you are in the area.

Such a weird experience visiting this pub for dinner this evening. Order was taken quickly and the food came out not long after but the Mini portions for kids was not mini in the slightest and one could have served 2, easily! Lasagne and chicken schnitzel were large portions but basic, even though the prices of things now are just through the roof. I don't know if our meals were worth the money we paid. The tables were really close together and because it was quite busy I felt like we were all sitting together in some kind of communal canteen...and a strangely positioned mirror meant I kept catching glances from the old man sat on the table behind me. There was a feeling of old fashioned old man pub trying to elevate itself to gastro pub... I can't pinpoint what it was, it just didn't feel quite right. Also, no takeaway boxes for the kids food so a lot of food went to waste this evening, which didn't sit right either. I've given 4 stars for service because it was so speedy and the barman was friendly and the waitress had her head screwed on right but sadly this was not a winner for me.

Friendly service, beautiful pub with a nice atmosphere but the food was really awful which is a great shame. I’m not sure the chef knows his own menu as the fish pie was incredibly dry (basically a pie dish full of dry mashed potato) and was served with hard peas rather than the advertised mange tout, the prawn and chorizo pasta in a tomato sauce actually had no sauce, the pepperoni on the pizza was the most synthetic kind of pepperoni you could buy and the cold meat starter was served with crackers? All very lazy. We were polite when asked how our starters were hoping that the mains would be an improvement, but the fish pie was so bad that I did tell the waitress that it was incredibly dry and although she was very friendly I presume the chef wasn’t bothered as there was no further feed back. Probably best to stick with a pint and a packet of peanuts.

Really lovely country pub with friendly staff. Nice beer garden at the back. I don't eat here as previously my Husband got an almost raw burger and people at the next table complained too as their pie was all gristle and no meat. What a wonderful little pub! Within close proximity of Sumners Pond, The Queen's Head is the perfect little pub to visit while staying. It wasn't particularly busy when I visited but I could imagine it becoming quite cramped inside on a busy evening so having plenty of seating outside is a good thing. They have a good selection of beers, although I must admit that they were quite warm. It wasn't great because it was a particularly hot day so I was looking for a very chilled pint of beer. However, this didn't spoil the visit but possibly something to look at in the future.

Really lovely ham hock terrine which was complimented with the pickled salad and very tasty, followed by a great roast beef dinner. Nice enough pub, staff nice and service good but let down my the food though. We went for an early lunch before a wedding nearby. Opted for the pizza, which was a mistake: the chef had used tinned tomatoes as the base and it was soggy, bland and unfulfilling. Unfortunately we were really tight for time to ask for something else.

Booked two days camping here based on the owners description of the attached pub and well presented site. Pub was closed, the site is horrible. Grass pitch too wet he said. Expected us to park on the road amongst work vans and grimey caravans. Shower and toilet facilities look gross. This place is not suitable for winter camping and looks nothing like the advertised photos or description. Didn't meet us as he said he would. Many similar reviews from other campers using Pitch Up and Trip Advisor. Since changed his description on Pitch Up.. Worth reading those reviews to see how he responds to feedback. Refusing a refund.
