We came here for lunch as an adult family, several years ago, and weren’t impressed, despite the beautiful building and environment. So many positive changes since then. Space has been opened up, delicious lunch for all, service friendly, prompt and generally impeccable.

A little disappointed. We have been diners here on several occasions and up to now have been impressed by the menu and the service. On this occasion their summer Sunday lunch menu was fine and the lamb was excellent but the service was not up to scratch. We were a family of five, the pub was nearly empty when we arrived, staff were around but inattentive. Each time we had to get up and ask for a menu (drinks, food child’s and main), ask whether we could order a drink and ask if we could order our meal. Maybe it was one of those days, but we hope that next time we have a better experience.

Having arrived at Plymouth , we had to make a last minute - almost literally - reservation as we had to change our plans at the last moment to accommodate an outbreak of COVID in our originally planned location ( across the other side of England!) And what a lovely surprise! Warmly greeted and shown to a beautifully appointed room, we realised we had arrived somewhere very special. Dinner was a delightful experience. When the locals frequent an establishment you know it has to be good. Exquisite cuisine created with great imagination. Room was spotless and very comfortable. Will stay again!

I don't normally feel inclined to leave reviews but I just wanted to say thanks so much to Scott, the bar manager for being so helpful & friendly when I popped in to watch England (just) beat Slovakia! This is a fantastic pub, not a "SKY TV" pub in any way by the way, they just happened to have the football on, it's much more of a traditional rural & gastro pub ...but the staff in general and Scott in particular don't have any of the usual associated pompous pretensions that go with that, and are very friendly & easy going in their presentation and very diligent and hard working in their delivery. Great food and drink menu too! Highly recommended

We visited the Queens arms for our wedding anniversary on Friday evening and was very disappointed. It isn’t particularly local to us, so meant we had to get a taxi which is fine, but had I have had my car I would have got straight in before ordering and went home. The service was shocking. We went in got Told where our table was and we sat then for 20 minutes waiting for menus and a drink. I’d be more understanding if they were particularly busy or if the restaurant wasn’t in front of the bar and the walk way for the waitresses and staff. It continued like this throughout the night, when it come to ordering more drinks or asking for anything at all really. The food looked beautiful when it arrived, the beef Tartare was lovely, but the pie again looked fantastic but the jus that went was all over it was so over powering I was left unable to get any taste at all from anything else on the plate. I was unable to Finish it as it was so so rich it made it unpleasant. Overall we were very disappointed.

Excellent food served by staff who never once smiled. Yet service charge was automatically added! Wine was ‘off’ - oxidised and undrinkable which was charged for! As a WSET Level 3 Merit qualified wine drinker, it is hugely disappointing the lack of acceptance that dark urine coloured white wine tasting vile was considered drinkable. The fact that the bottle was poured down the sink thereafter speaks volumes. I would not recommend this establishment despite the quality of the food. The customer experience was poor and no attempt to make anyone welcome.

Two fillet of beef ordered and where was the veg?? Tiny bit of red cabbage and a miniature onion. Waited forever for dessert to be ordered and had enough after a long wait so requested the bill. As a local I had not been back to the Queens arms since its refurbishment, which is excellent and gives a large bright in keeping pub, the staff were young friendly and efficient we decided to share two starters the crispy pigs head & ham hock fritters along with the citrus cured monkfish both were delicious with plenty of excellent interesting flavours - then onto the mains - 2 of us had the burgers as they looked so good when delivered to another table but sadly they were very disappointing a rather dry bun with the beef pattie dense dry and lacking any depth of beef savoury flavour we would have wanted something with much more taste and juicy texture especially at £18 - the fries were good the last of our group had the slow roasted leeks again very disappointing watery flavour with no seasoning - then we decided to share the £12 promising us isle of wight blue, westcombe cheddar and Bath soft - all cheeses we really like OMG not sure how they had stored the blue - it did not even resemble isle of wight blue it was grey in appearance and well past its best a very acidic favour profile and we had no idea what they had done to the westcombe cheddar - the texture was rubbery and had very little flavour not what we would have expected from a westcombe cheddar - we understand it is difficult to keep cheese at its best but it was a disgrace to serve these as they were so bad - it would have been better to explain this and just give us more of the bath soft which was spot on and the generous amount of crackers were excellent - this has so much potential but it needs to look at the little simple things especially when they are charging high pub prices

Booked for Sunday lunch for a table of 7 for a special birthday. Having been here 6 weeks ago and discussed with the manageress how good it was they weren’t just doing roast dinners and how ridiculous it was pubs that only did roasts on a Sunday we booked for a special occasion. On arrival we found it was a set menu which was ONLY roast dinners. This was not told to me when I booked and also was totally the opposite of what was stated on their website which was still showing the previous menu, (which was brilliant). We promptly left and won’t be going back again. Such a shame as being local we had told everyone how good it was now and the menu so much better and now we’ll have to inform them to not bother again. I would suggest they also update their website instead of continuing their false advertising.

I'm torn between my experience today and my general experiences at the Queen's Arms. Visited today and overall, it was a good pub experience. Pigeon breast starter, a near perfect chicken pie and a slice of Parkin albeit drowning in sauce. So good grub The downside, it's served in a soulless 'pub' that wouldnt look out of place in Cheltenham, London etc... Which is a shame as the pub used to be a rare establishment. A local pub with perfect food, atmosphere, dogs trotting on the floor and where you'd take friends because it was unique. The pub used to have home made pork pies stacked on the bar...! It's a shame, there's nothing wrong with the pub however for people who have been to it we know that it used to be so much more than it is today.

Whole lemon sole were swilling in butter and served with COLD RAW sliced fennel and a topping of an excess of capers and no other veg. 1 of our party ordered soup and a pasta- both were served at the same time! The pasta was undercooked, rubbery and tasteless. The waiter plonked our main dishes on the table, in front of the wrong people, without asking. who had ordered what. We complained to the duty manager who was the best thing about the place. He apologised profusely and only charged us for the wine. Which is exactly what he should’ve done. Really sad to see what the new owners have done to the place, turning a beautiful country pub into a soulless and non descript restaurant, devoid of any personality. The menu is very limited and overpriced. Admittedly we ate late at 2,30 on a sunday but one of the 6 mains wasn't available and two of the other options were vegetarian. 4 people on our table opted to make a starter into a main but what was brought to the table was very underwhelming.

I had the fish, whilst my travelling companion had the chicken. After just over an hour we had to depart in order to get to our destination in Devon, it was hard to leave though as the dessert menu was very tempting.

I went to the Queens Arms as part of a party of 5, including 2 vegetarians. The on line menu looked great, with a much more interesting veggie option than the usual veggie lasagne. However, on the night the only 'veggie' main, as advised by the waiter, included Parmesan, which is not vegetarian as it is made with animal rennet. I had a 'nibble' as a starter, 3 mandolin strips of courgette rolled and filled with ricotta mixed with orange zest, which at £5 seemed very overpriced compared with the meat nibbles (eg 3 sizeable black pudding and haggis bon bons with whisky BBQ sauce) also at £5. With no other choice available, I had the only vegetarian starter (soup) as my main, ordered with a side of cauliflower cheese. The wild garlic soup with homemade roll arrived after the other diners had eaten their mains and was unpleasant with the roll stale, so I sent it back. The cauli cheese did not arrive so finally I asked for it - it was dried out, with no liquid sauce and a heavy crunchy sprinkling of salt on top. The cost of the soup was removed from the bill, but the cauli was charged for, despite it only being half eaten. The other vegetarian had a starter as a main, minus the meat elements, but no deduction was made for an expensive element of the dish being missing. From the website I thought we were going to have fabulous meals - if the chef is not capable of catering for vegetarians the pub should make this clear in their advertising.

I was looking forward to pub lunch in this establishment as I had previously heard good things. The menu is limited and quite expensive but I was expecting this after checking the website. Whilst my food was ok, even if portions were rather small, my partner received a really bad tough cut of beef. After cutting off all the fat (with difficulty) there was hardly any meat left. He mentioned this to the waiter but wasn’t offered a replacement . I then mentioned it again when our plates were being collected and requested for feedback to be passed on to kitchen. The waiter then came back and offered us pudding on the house (the pudding was indeed very nice).

While most of the pub's patrons were outside in the garden enjoying the warm weather, we had lunch in the very pleasant bar. Service was very friendly, and we were especially pleased with the welcome our dog received! Food a bit pricey, but tasty.

My partner and I went to the Queens Arms for an evening meal with my partner last week. The pub is located in such a beautiful setting. Staff were friendly and very hospitable and nothing seemed to be too much of a hassle. Our waitress had great knowledge of the wide range of gins on offer and recommended a couple for us to try. Food was also tasty. My partner had the pigeon starter and whilst I opted out from a starter however I couldn’t resist having one of their homemade scotch eggs with real ale chutney. For mains we had the duck and the hake which were both beautifully presented and delicious. I would recommend a side with the hake though as not much in the way of carbs on there! Would recommend this place to all, good range of choices, fantastic gins and lovely service. Looking forward to visiting again soon!

We had booked a table 7.30 for 8pm for 6 people to celebrate my birthday. We experienced some problems with delays in ordering and the Grouse main course was not as described and was not cooked to our satisfaction. After some debate with the bill we did agree an acceptable figure. It was a shame really what was a lovely occasion was spoiled somewhat. I have not gone into the full details here nor would I but I do feel it would be a while before we return.

We had a voucher for two luxury afternoon teas, but as it had just expired the management absolutely refused to give us any credit for it. When we talked about "customer goodwill" they were simply not interested. They had tken our money and were not prepared to be flexible and offer us anything in return

Came to this pub a couple of years back and had an excellent home-made house burger - the mark of a good pub in my book. So I was looking forward to enjoying another today when we were in the area. What a disappointment. Our starters of sea bass ceviche were swimming in vinegar so that was all you could taste. I then had a burger but it was not homemade and the fries were straight out of a freezer pack. Why have proper handcut chips as a side and not serve them with a main course? And the prices were pretty heavy. Won’t be going back.

We arrived in a group for lunch, one of our fortnightly visits to pubs around North Dorset and South Somerset, to be met by a member of staff (manager?) whose welcome could curdle milk, so rude and off-hand was she. The beers then gradually ran out, so that only the 7.3% special was available, although there was no compunction in first serving cloudy, and clearly undrinkable, beer, suggesting the staff on duty didn't recognise good beer from bad, or didn't care. The food, when it arrived, was good, although the choice was rather limited for a pub that makes claims to be a food destination, but the delay in serving on what was a fairly quiet mid-week lunchtime was hard to understand. Having visited many pubs for lunch during this and previous years, we found this one to be expensive for what was on offer, and with an extremely unwelcoming feeling from one member of staff (although the younger staff were much friendlier and pleasant). All-in-all, not an enjoyable visit and not one that will be repeated.

We stayed here recently for 2 nights at this chocolate-box pretty pub and were very impressed with all aspects of our stay. On arrival the chap behind the bar came out with us and carried our bags to our room, the room was very nicely decorated, had a lovely en-suite shower room and a super comfortable bed with beautiful views over the countryside. In fact, every member of staff we spoke to was delightful and very attentive; we were made to feel very much at home. We ate dinner in the dining room on our first evening and were very impressed with the food, all in our party agreed it was delicious. We enjoyed our stay here very much and really didn't want to have to leave.

A clean and tidy, well presented village pub that offers a good range of food on the menu. The garden has been extended, so sitting on the terrace in the summer is good. Lovely puddings and good cider.

We stayed here and as it is so isolated had to eat in the restaurant, there was little on the menu to our taste and the fish and chips we did order was not very pleasant, the chips were decidedly soggy.

Properly great pub food in smashing surroundings with lovely service. We visited on Saturday evening and enjoyed delicious food (the cauliflower starter was really sensational) and great beer. The proximity of the Queens Arms to our holiday rental meant it was the obvious choice for Sunday lunch also - and incredibly they surpassed themselves - I would travel a great distance for the roast beef and THE BEST GRAVY EVER!!!

My wife and I recently went to the Queens Arms and sampled their taster menu. It really was an excellent combination of extremely tasty dishes. The service was excellent, as was the price - and we were impressed that the chef came to our table several times to check how we were doing and to get feedback - a really nice personal touch!

We came here for an evening meal with friends - not knowing the place but having heard locally it was good for food. On arrival staff were friendly enough however the bar area smelt of dog. Having ordered drinks before dinner the 2 beers were served at least 1 inch below the top of the glass and certainly not a full pint. Not a great start!

We are happy to pay a top price for top quality however we received a well below quality fish and chips one lunch time. The batter was soggy. When asked how our meal was I did tell the waitress the problem. She promptly said she would replace my meal. However we were just calling through for a quick lunch which then turned out to be a long lunch waiting for a replacement.

My husband and I went for dinner at The Queens Arms last night. I couldn't fault the surroundings, welcome, atmosphere and service. All great. A good thing really as the food didn't live up to the price tag or expectations. My scallop starter looked pretty but was cold, had miniscule scallops and was served a full 5 minutes before my husband's starter or bread and olives which we had requested would come at the same time.
