Fantastic Sunday lunch, great atmosphere and lovely food

Good food and service, reasonable prices

Excellent service and lovely food, the liver was the best I’ve had in years! My wife’s tuna and poached egg salad was superb!

I find myself wondering if I went to the same pub as the one in the glowing reviews, in general the food was OK apart from the children's food; extremely low quality sausage that was so hard and dry that it was inedible, which was replaced on request by the same sausages that had been quickly fried and incredibly pale. Macaroni cheese that was not Macaroni and didn't taste of cheese, hot stringy cheese with linguine. I had a burger that was dry but well seasoned and had a nice grilled flavour but not great for the price. Overall dissapointing

We had a takeaway fish and chips and it was delicious! Gorgeous fish in a delicate batter, lovely chips, salad garnish and peas. All beautifully cooked. We will definitely be ordering this again!

A family favourite for two decades, the Rose and Crown was a welcome stop on our walk through the fields. Despite being wet and muddy we were warmly welcomed by Sonia and enjoyed a smooth pint of Palmers ale in lovely surroundings. We didn't eat on this occasion, the ale was reward enough to fuel us on our way!

Invited by family for sunday lunch , they said the carvery was first class and they were not wrong! Lovely country pub, very friendly staff and service was superb. Meats on carvery were first rate and plenty of fresh vegetables to go with it. Totally recommend travelling for the carvery.

We turned up without booking on a busy Sunday but a table was found for 2 of us. We were served promptly and had an excellent carvery - be aware that the “regular” portion is large. A wide range of beautifully cooked vegetables. (Broccoli and cauliflower could have been cooked just a minute or two longer) otherwise a satisfying meal.

We were glad that we had not ordered a full meal as the lunch time sandwich we both ordered was abysmal! I had ordered a prawn marie rose sandwich, and my husband a steak sandwich...both came with chips and salad. Never in my life have I seen a prawn sandwich or, come to that, a steak sandwich, made with thin sliced, white, lightly toasted warm bread! We were both hungry and on a rare day out so didn't want to complain, so set about eating them. There was so much runny sauce in my prawn sandwich it was impossible to eat cleanly and there was a large pool of sauce on my plate. The prawns were dry and chewy. The salad was liberally covered with some sort of dressing which rendered it inedible. My husbands steak was chewy and his salad was also inedible due to too much dressing. The chips were the one redeeming thing on the plate but tasted like the cooking oil needed changing! I wasn't going to mention anything but the waitress asked if all was ok, so I told her that the meal was not good.. We were offered a half pint of the beer that we had been drinking, but declined, and were told that our comments would be passed on to the kitchen.

Absolutely brilliant!! For a village pub, this one is superb!! It looks very welcoming from the outside, being built of the local honey-coloured stone, and has a lovely 'feel' inside. The quality of the food is excellent, portions are plentiful and the beer is pretty darn good too. Inside the building is sort of split into two, there's a bar area with seating at the front and a dedicated dining area to the rear which is a little quieter, not that the bar is at all rowdy but it could be on a weekend?! We intend to be regular visitors as its well worth the 20 minute journey from where we live.

I had a beef and Merlot pie. It was amazing. Definitely the place to go for a decent pie.

Great Village Pub, excellent food and fantastic staff, very spacious, lovely beer garden, dogs welcome inside and out. Came for a 40th birthday and had the restaurant area all booked out.

Went with a party of 18. Several ordered burgers and, unfortunately, we’re all disappointed when they arrived. The vegan version was ok but only had a handful of chips, the chicken burger was “cremated” and very dry as were the ordinary burgers. We were so looking forward to this meal and we had read great reviews but maybe the chef was having an “off night” 🤔

Messaged them on their website several weeks ago about a reservation and nothing. Called them and left a message for a booking and nothing. Not a great way to entice new customers. Very bad service.

You know when you want to tell everyone about an amazing place but also don't want to tell anyone at the same time so you get to keep this for yourself, this is The Rose and Crown. The food was just amazing, it seems rare that you find a pub with amazing food that isn't over the top. This is definitely up there as a new favourite! We did have an early dinner so the pub was quiet but the place was clean, staff were lovely and music that us Millennials actually recognised! It was going to be a quick bite but ended up eating 3 courses! The food was just so good, we rolled out of the pub with very full tummies! Highly recommend this place but also don't go because we want to keep it for ourselves 😅

We were disappointed with the service and food. Ordering and receiving drinks took too long. The food had the potential to get good, yet was cold. Everything seemed disorganised. Some of the staff were very friendly, yet some were rude.

Nice place to eat, pub food was good and well cooked. Pretty in the evening with the lights and beer garden looks like it would be great in summer.

Never being here before.It a birthday treat from my husband. The barman was lovely and friendly. Had a lovely meal, couldn't eat my main so didn't have a dessert. Enjoyable evening and will be going to try the carvery soon. Ma y thanks.

I go for a drink here quite regularly. Beautiful pub. Cosy fire in winter and great garden in Summer. I don't eat out much, but the menu has been extended and really good range of gluten free and veggie options. On the couple of accessions I HAVE eaten here the food has been pretty good.

The pies are amazing - every single time! You must try them! For vegetarians too. Lovely rustic pub with a welcoming feel, we love it here.

A very mixed experience. The food, including carvery was very good. A nice selection of desserts that were also very nice. The staff were friendly but the service was incredibly slow. We managed 2 courses in 2 and a half hours and that was only because we asked for the dessert menu and then asked for our orders to be taken. The waitress took our drink order when we arrived and didn't ask again for the whole time we were there. A shame really as the location is nice and so was the food.

This is our favourite family country pub for roast dinners and for a good varied menu if out with Friends. It's a very attractive old pub with it's indoor well, fascinating for my kids to stand on! Cosy fire in the winter and a beautiful place to sit outside in the summer, next to the famous East Lambrook gardens. The staff are so accommodating for my fussy young and old family! Nice atmosphere, they do get busy though. (carvery is top class) Dog friendly Kid friendly Elderly friendly Highly recommend

A lovely country pub, with friendly and helpful staff. Food beautifully cooked and presented, steak and merlot pie was homemade and huge with the most tender cuts of steak I've ever had in a pie.

Roast dinner was ok Meat was fad some of the veg and spuds were cold Then had to go looking for are sweets ! Staff busy to stop over and ask us anything about are dinner Not sure if we will go back for dinner Yes for a drink or two

Really difficult to write a review when you break everything down. It was okay. I’m in danger of being brutally honest and therefore coming across really harsh, but the Rosen Crown didn’t well me. In fact it frustrates me more to be honest with you. He’s a really gorgeous looking pub with a really good space. You can go there and be really pleased with the beer garden and eating inside as tables and chairs in the spaces between are really comfortable, however and I’m really sorry to say but it just didn’t. Wow maybe doesn’t need to the bit that really disappointed me was the £12.50 for a glass of wine and a pint of orange juice and lemonade. This may not be their fault. It may just be the impact of the cost of living by £12.50 for two drinks is Ludacris. I had the rump and the wife had a chicken burger which were both enjoyable. I think if when we arrived and during the time there, we were shown some warmth and interest, I think I would’ve probably given it a higher rating. Now it may be because they had a large party in the other room and that was why Everybody seemed to be Preoccupied.

Disappointing visit, hunters chicken was dry & beef lasagna had very little mince & huge amounts of cheese. Service was slow even though it was not busy.

great meal wednesday just gone ( 16th Aug ) services was amazing from the young lady and you man behind the bar, never stopped moving and making sure all tables was happy. i think the lady was called Izzy not sure the the young man but my god did they work hard. will defiantly be back

We are down from South Yorkshire booked a table for 7. The food and service was exelent we also brought our dogs too. Would call again next time a really friendly place staff great

Lovely pub, nice setting, fantastic food and great service

last week we had a great meal in the afternoon with two young lads behind the bar, asked if we needed anything and if was food was okay. popped into the R&C yesterday for a carvery with the wife and kids, was told there was no tables available until after 3pm but the pub was half empty. The women behind the bar couldnt care less about customers and just went back on her phone. in fact 2/3 girls behind the bar was on mobiles and also eating food which isnt very good. would go back again but only if the lads are working.

Best Sunday lunch around. Lovely pub.

Dropped in for lunch after visiting East Lambrook Manor Garden next door - like many other visitors to the garden! Inside looked comfortable, but we sat outside in the garden and enjoyed light bite portions of ham, egg and chips - the lunch menu has a good range, including light bite options. Good choice of local (ish) beer.

Very good Sunday roast. Nice interior and great outside space. Definitely worth a visit especially on a Sunday.

A nice place for lunch. The Sea Bass on Risotto with sauces was different and very tasty.

Great food and ambiance. We had a meal for 3 on Saturday night - excellent fish and chips, Burger and sea bass. Hard working efficient staff. They deserve to do well!

Very disappointing. You.could not write it any better. Had the pie was enjoying every minute until i found a plug fuse on my plate amongest my veg and gravy!!!!not only that but i do not feel dogs should be allowed to be in dining areas especially with a child who is nervous of dogs. Service dogs slightly different.If they had kept it quietly under the table no problem but sitting on the chair eating snacks is unacceptable. All in all hugley disappointed with a pub where we have always had great meals and have often recommended to others.

The lamb here is phenomenal, I don’t know if it’s the chef, or the supplier, but it’s super delicious. Staff are clearly having a good time at work, love this place.

Turned up on a Tuesday night when they happened to have a Ukrainian buffet. Very enjoyable food at a reasonable price.

If you are coming to East Lambrook, come for the carvery on a Sunday. Beautifully cooked meat, with all the trimmings. Friendly, good value. Best roast dinner I've had in some considerable time. Delicious!!

After a carvery promotion, we expected to have some other patrons around us . The place is huge there are at least 20 covers... there were only 3 customer's when we visited at a peak period the carvery food is good and plentiful. exellent service by the staff. 😊😉

Had a superb Sunday carvery experience. Food is excellent and lots of choice. Nice to be offered a vegetarian roast option. Pub was very busy and staff rushed off their feet but doing a great job so although we had a bit of a longer wait time to see waiting staff you could see they were working flat out. They did not rush you to eat and we didnt feel like we had to leave to vacate the table for other customers. Outside garden area very pretty with plenty of space.

Had a very good cheese burger and chips from here, was a bit on the pricey side but well worth it for the quality.

Not a bad pub . Staff very friendly. Prices at bit steep. Food was okay but over salted on everything and loads of pepper in the soup. Yet the staff sorted everything out . Wouldn't eat there again but would happily have more than 1 drink there 😁

I think 3 stars is a bit hard. Staff were great but service was very slow. New staff on board not really performing as expected I gather. This is a great local pub with lots of character, and the food was good. I would go again.

Pub looks lovely from the outside, with a nice garden but unfortunately our food took an hour to arrive (we had only ordered a cheese& pickle sandwich & fish sandwich. The bread was stale. I don’t recommend coming here if you want a nice meal.

A very attractive pub. Good selection of drinks and a delicious menu. We had lunch and a few drinks which we all thoroughly enjoyed. Very reasonably priced, too.

Lovely pub, nice decor, great food and the staff were welcoming, polite and helpful. The turkey and ham pie I had was packed with filling and flavour, served with vegetables and a choice of potatoes...I had the new potatoes. My partner chose a pizza, which was enough for 2....we took the half he couldn't eat home with us! Definitely will come back!

Family meal with 5 adults and two children old fashioned pub grub which suited us everyone enjoyed their meal and drinks were in happy hour a bonus. Lovely pub lots of space very clean and the staff were great. Been 3 times now.

Had a meal last night (July 18th so hottest day of year so far 22) lovely pub but I think they got caught off guard for a monday. Arrived 7pm, starter took 45 mins to arrive then another 45 mins until main meal arrived. Garlic bread was shockingly dry. Pizza was lovely. Other meals were very average. Waitress was super good though and knocked a round of drinks off which we didnt ask for. Lovely pub to drink in with plenty of tables outside. Hopefully the food and service will improve but to be fair it turned into a very busy hot monday evening.

Just had Sunday lunch with my son. First time eating here and I would recomend it. Portion size is ideal and the large beer garden is a great place to eat. It's 10 minutes off the A303 so good place to relax on a long journey.

Absolutely lovely pub! Food was delicious and the atmosphere and service was superb! Only thing I would say is that is may be slightly overpriced compared to other pubs in the area, especially the cheesy garlic bread which is clearly a pre bought baguette with some cheese which is being charged at £4 and wasn’t particularly garlicky! But everything else was excellent!

Proper country pub with large seated garden, and ample car park. Large interior, with feature well in floor with glazed viewing port. Great, friendly service, good food at reasonable prices. Will go again. Recently changed hands and has been tastefully updated.

The lady with curly hair who was serving, whom I assume to be the landlord, spoke to diners like pieces of dirt. The food was low quality, cold and overpriced. The service was incredibly slow (over an hour to wait for cold food), dogs allowed in the dining area as well as loud screaming children (I believe the infant ginger boy was the landlords son who was also being asked to help give out cutlery????). What sort of joke. Why on earth would I want my cutlery touched by an infant during the current climate. The atmosphere was stale with the staff being unprofessional all round, wearing scruffy clothing and having zero customer service skills (No surprise if being managed by such a rude landlord). What an absolute mess of an establishment, something you'd expect to see on kitchen nightmares off the telly. I overheard the landlord say it's not a fast food restaurant in response to long waiting times but I've probably had better service and food at McDonald's. With so many nice pubs in this county you'd literally be better off anywhere else. Don't just take my word for it, if you read other reviews for this place you'll notice a trend, please don't make the same mistake as we did

One of the worst experiences of eating out I've had for a while, turning up we were advised to order drinks at the bar as they were too busy, looking around the pub it wasn't busy but we ordered drinks as requested. In the meanwhile of waiting for our order to be taken we overheard several diners complaining about various things, cold food being sent back, slow service and rudeness being the main points. Not a great atmosphere when you just walk into a place to be overhearing such negative comments. Regardless, we ordered our food after a short wait ,however, what conspired after this is what has put us off permanently. A table next to us had been waiting an hour and after making the waitress aware they were told the pinpoint time the kitchen received the food order, however this doesn't correlate to the time the waitress took the order. I'm not sure why a diner would need to be told what time the kitchen received their order when they've already been waiting an hour and why a waitress would need to argue about how the wait time wasn't long, sorry an hour is ridiculous. We asked a waitress where our food was and were told it wasn't a 'fast food establishment' and that 'we were the last diners to be seated' in an incredibly rude manor, we weren't being rude at all even after hearing all the commotion other diners were dealing with. Shortly after being told it wasn't a fast food establishment we left. Fair enough you're busy but why do you have to be so rude? Absolutely awful customer service never been spoken to so poorly in a restaurant in all my life. If you have long wait times for food let us know when we sit down and don't be so rude.

Food was above average and reasonably priced but what really makes the pub is the incredibly inviting family atmosphere. Very welcoming and friendly, would definitely go back.

Friendly professional staff with great food and atmosphere. I had the 8oz sirloin steak cooked medium rare and was cooked to perfection and my mrs had the cheese burger that she said was amazing. Prices right. 100% would recommend.

The vegetables were already on the plate, much better if come in dishes where you can serve yourself. The food not very warm, but they were apologetic and warmed it up. The waitress was very nice.

Really disappointing. We came here (Fri eve) to celebrate a special occasion and it really put a dampener on the evening. I really hate complaining so it doesn't happen often but as someone who has eaten out a fair bit and works in hospitality myself, I have to say it was pretty shocking. I visited last year and previously we thoroughly enjoyed our meals, but this time around was a completely different story. Mum and Dad ordered the steak pie and I ordered the chicken pie. The menu said it came with creamy mash but it looked like it had been broken up with a fork so it was all lumpy. The pastry was really hard and when I broke into the middle it was totally dry with barely any white sauce. One staff member was lovely and sympathetic, especially as I said I hate complaining and she agreed it didn't look good and she changed my meal for the cheese burger and swapped the mash on the other pie for chips. They confirmed their usual chef was away and said they'd had a conversation about the pies earlier and have decided to take them off the menu. The starter of bruschetta I'm certain was tinned tomatoes too. We were offered drinks on the house but I only drink sparkling water and we're not big drinkers. I think what got us was how they said they were also going to do something for us and make it right and offer us coffees after and whilst they removed the one meal from the bill, they never asked us if we wanted the coffees in the end and still added a service charge. To be honest I thought they would at least knock off the drinks we'd already ordered or the ice cream we had for dessert. Ice cream was yummy but the service was painfully slow despite the fact that there were only 2 other tables in there, one of which was a staff member dining. I'm writing this in the hope that they can turn this place around because it's a beautiful pub and all it needs is great food, good service and they will have more than 3 tables filled on what's supposed to be one of the busiest nights for pubs/restaurants. Hope future diners have a better experience than ours.
