Out shopping & stopped off for a quick drink. The Quays is nicely decorated with great staff & superb beer they cater for those with a mobility difficulty or disability with a disabled toilet downstairs to the left of the bar & plenty of space to get through between tables, also have a dedicated smoking area to the rear. They offer a range of food too at reasonable prices, we didn’t dine this time but have previously & it was decent grub, worth a visit as very central in town.

My first ever visit to this town-centre pub. A faint smell of paint was my first impression as I walked in & then my second was one of surprise as I couldn't see a bar counter; it was around the corner. For such a central location I was somewhat surprised that there were so few people in the place & that those who were there were hardly in the first flush of youth; despite the decor which, whilst hardly trendy, was not what I'd call traditional.Anyway I enjoyed a very pleasant pint of Timothy Taylor's Golden Best & although I didn't eat they had (newish looking) reasonable lunchtime menu cards on the tables. I'm guessing that the place has been refurbished lately and it was certainly clean with the fittings being in good order. The unusual layout was a little off-putting & unless they had mirrors or cameras that I missed the bar staff would be unable to see half of the clientele or the front door. When I finished I took my empty glass to the counter, it was only about 12 yards but even so I took the trouble ... Therefore it was a little disconcerting to be neither thanked nor wished farewell when there was only one other customer there & the barmaid was in plain view! A nice pint but I think it could be another 30 years before I go back!

This a Sunday lunch to beat all Sunday lunches! we had the beef which is slow cooked in an ale gravy and falls apart, there is also plenty of it! The gravy it comes in is plentiful too as you also receive a gravy boat of it on the side, the mash is creamy and the roast potatoes are delicious my only complaint is there is not enough of them! the Yorkshire pudding is made on the premises and not Aunt Bessies! The veg is fresh and not boiled to mush and is home grown on an allotment I was reliably informed overall it was absolutely delicious and we will be going again!

On a visit to Darlington we called into this pub for lunch. Typical pub food but substantial, good quality and good choice. We both had the burgers and chips and were delighted to have 'real' chunky chips and not frozen. The burger bun was delicious and actually tasted home made. The burger was also very good. Really meaty and not fatty. Great value and highly recommended.

This is a most unassuming restaurant opposite the Town Clock. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality and excellent taste of the traditional Sunday lunch, a giant Yorkshire pudding filled with roast meat and all the extras. We took my Mum in a wheelchair - and she loved the food. And their prices are a bargain. We go back every time we visit Darlington.

I had a friend visiting me for a family party. I took her into Darlington to spend a few hours looking in the shops etc. We both decided on the spur of the moment we would look for somewhere to have something to eat.I have never been in The Quays before and was pleasantly surprised when we went in at the lovely furnishings. It all looked as if it has had been recently renovated. We ordered roast beef, Yorkshire pudding etc. It was absolutely delicious. Could not fault it at all, Infact just like homemade. (I ordered a pensioners dinner only £4.95 and I could hardly finish it) Excellent value for money. The landlady's mother is the chef, her father is the waiter, so a lovely family run pub. We were made very welcome and would have no hesitation in recommending this pub.
