We had an excellent family meal at this Restaurant. It has recently changed it’s name, but we still prefer the name ‘The Purple Rooms’. The change appears to be because there are now two menus to choose from - Asian as before and Persian. Two ladies chose the Persian stew, which was different and delicious. The three other guests chose various Asian dishes, and declared them all to be excellent. We had a warm welcome, and the service was very good. We shall definitely be visiting again in the future

Went there because of good rating by Tripadvisor Set price meal Mon-Thurs. What I had, Starter: "Bollywood Scotch Egg" (mine did not look like the picture on the website). So disappointing, the boiled egg was overcooked and possibly more than a day old. Tasteless spicy minced lamb should be much thicker to evenly wrap around the egg and another coating of egg and bread crumbs is desperately needed to hold it all together before deep-frying. Lastly, the whole thing is covered with a thin substance that the menu described as a fried egg. Main course: Jaipur Chicken is nice enough, no complain nor praise.

What a lovely friendly resturant.i had lamb Tawa.i checked before I ordered as I can't have dairy or gluten.they reassured me that the dish I ordered was ok.i wasn't disappointed the meal was lovely.very good price and a bonus you can take your own alcohol.Defiently be returning.my friends really enjoyed the meal to.x

Came here with family, located on stratford road. Restaurant is quite small but is quaint. Decor is nice as there are some nice pictures on the wall. There appears to be some refurbishment going on but does not affect the seating area. We ordered a selection of variety of starters from lamb chops to vegetable chaat. The lamb chops were very tough, needed very strong teeth to chew through the meat. The chaat was very bland so we added some sauces from the poppadoms to make it reasonable. The worse was the samosa and seekh kebab. They samosa were exactly like frozen ones you get from supermarkets and likewise with the seekh kebabs. I believe the brand is shazam. The lamb curry was just as bad. The lamb pieces were lamb tikka pieces mixed with currys paste from a jar. The lamb was so tough, I gave up trying to eat it. Atmosphere was nice and staff were very friendly. I wouldn't come here again myself.

Fantastic and friendly welcome. Staff very attentive and excellent in every way. Had the Jaipur, amazing flavour with loads of chicken, mushrooms and peppers. Chicken cooked superbly, so tender. Only negative, chicken tikka starter was tasty but the mint sauce was bland and there is often a red sauce, but this was absent. With this addition it would be my number one restaurant. Should this be an addition I would definitely return!!

Six of us visited the Purple Rooms last night 14th December, we had a very warm welcome and shown to a nice round table. The waiters were attentive and friendly, the food arrived which was excellent, enjoyable and plentiful, just the right heat and seasoning. All of us would recommend the restaurant and we are looking forward to a return visit.

The Purple Rooms has been in Hall Green Birmingham since 1988, so could be called well-established! It can cater for very large parties, yet seems cosy and intimate. The staff are friendly and attentive, and while a bit more expensive than some, the food is tasty, with a wide choice of dishes including vegetarian and vegan. Recommended.

I took take on a busy Friday and the food was ready on time, I took Paneer tikka ( asked them to check the spelling in their menu) and chicken biriyani. Food was ok and good quantity and value for money.

Really overpriced and really really disappointing. The Onion Bhaji was more like tasteless Pakora, I didn’t like it. The Samosa’s are tiny so all you can taste is pastry. The Bangladesh Singara is a more expensive Samosa, translation, thicker pastry than their Samosa. Needless to say most of it went in my bin. I threw the salad away (who wants to eat brown lettuce) and the slices of lime were so stale I couldn’t squeeze any juice from them so threw them away too. The Jingha Bhuna was a brown mush, and the red chillies didn’t flavour or spice the dish, but when I bit into one it was so hot I had to wash my mouth with milk and clean my teeth twice! I couldn’t eat anymore after that. The garlic Naan was bland and the mushroom rice lacked flavour. Spent just under £30 and nearly all of it went in the bin! I’ll never waste my money there again!

Visited this lovely place a couple of times and had a takeaway . It is consistently great food and great value for money . The staff are great and although at times very busy they are very attentive .

Popped in with my g/f for a meal a couple of Saturdays ago - place was practically empty but took 15 minutes for our order to be taken (including drinks). 10 minutes later poppadoms arrived but with no chutneys etc. Still no drinks. 5 minutes later I ask if the chutneys and drinks are on their way. Was told yes but there was no-one behind the bar. 5 minutes later I asked the Manager if it was worth us waiting - he shrugged his shoulders and said 'up to you Sir'. Couldn't have cared less! So half an hour and we didn't even get any drinks.

Food here is awesome, problem is the guy who runs the service. Arrogant, miserable as sin. It’s a shame as the restaurant is so nice but this guy makes out you are doing him a favour being there. Not sure I’ll come here again which is a shame.

We have had numerous meals from here and they have been ok however the latest was not good. All five of our curries were watery and tasteless. The chips were cold and the cheese naans we ordered were plain!!

Just had dinner here with 11 friends. The staff were really attentive and happy. The food was great value, 3 courses and coffee for £9.95. It does get bust with many regulars so I would book in advance.

i was surprised to realise we've been going to the Purple rooms on and off since 1999! Whenever we crave good authentic Indian/Asian food it is always first choice. A surprise visit from old friends on Friday with only a couple of days to spare...

Delivery should be free because we are less than 2 miles away. The portion could have been more because it would help us to orde again. And why is there wine in the food menu when it is a halal restaurant.

Just ordered a takeaway for delivery, what a disappointment, eaten at the purple rooms many times, will definitely not be having a takeaway again it was extremely expensive for what we had, in fact tesco/sainsburys ready meal curry if far superior to what we have just had. Won't be using them again

Hace poco visitamos este restaurante que acaba de abrir sus puertas en un mercado ya abarrotado en Sutton Coldfield.

Tenía un muy buen curry, pero sentía vigilados, ya que es un lugar pequeño. No muy contentos con £2 botellas en abonar una botella de cerveza que no cuesta £2! ! No creo que es justo, ya que no están autorizados de todos modos. No volvería corriendo allí.

Toda mi familia han visitado durante años y ahora es la única casa de curry que comemos en como mi papá es tan quisquilloso. Nada es demasiado problema para el personal y el ambiente es muy agradable. la comida es excepcional y nunca puede tener un fallo.

We have never had a bad meal at The Purple Rooms in over 20 years. Since moving to the north of the city our visits have become less frequent but we enjoyed a rare treat last week. The food was sublime. Beautiful flavours, lovely presentation and service was brilliant.

Food was ,excellent and presented in a very professional way, it looked very appetising and tasted even better.

Have to say this was probably one of the best meals I have had in a long time. Very friendly helpful staff and food that was so tasty. The fish starter was excellent and my Chicken Narga very tasty.Will be returning very soon.

Last December I visited the Purple Rooms in Hall Green and very much enjoyed an excellent meal. Since then the family have opened another branch at Sutton Coldfield but this restaurants does not appear to have a presence on the internet and cannot be traced on Tripadvisor. I have now visited the branch in Sutton four times since the beginning of 2017. It's a great place to go. Good service and the food is delicious. I have tried the Chicken Jalfrezi Balti and Chicken and Mushroom Balti twice now. The quality of the ingredients is impressive. I love their chapatis. Thoroughly recommended.

Always a great place to go for an evening meal...the curries here are fantastic and the staff are always very welcoming.

I usually come on weekends but met up with some friends last Monday. It wasn't as loud as a fri/sat obviously but still a nice atmosphere. We had the £9.95 banquet deal which was brilliant value. You won't believe how much food you get for such little price! Lovely food as always.

After a good few years since my last visit to this restaurant, my opinion hasn't really changed. My long absence was because I had a fish starter and the fishes glazed eyes were looking at me when I was expecting a fillet. Also I didn't like the fact that The Purple Rooms had pink wall paper.I was pleased to see that the walls are now just white and the paintwork was purple and I was careful to avoid any fish dishes.I enjoyed the paneer starter but thought it could have had a bit more exciting salad than just lettuce. I had vegetable biriyani for main and this wasn't very warm and I thought it was rather bland.The price was average and my friends all loved their meals so maybe I picked the wrong meal or have higher standards. I would go back if I can't persuade my curry mates to go elsewhere. Just my honest personal opinion.

We visited for the first time with a friend to celebrate his birthday and were not disappointed. From the moment we were shown to out reserved table the service was excellent. The quality of our food, from starters and mains to ice cream desserts, was exceptional. We ordered off the menu and did not ask for the Thursday evening offer of 5 courses for £9.95 (starter, main, sundry, dessert and coffee) because my wife chose to eat 'English' without a starter. However, when 3 ice creams and later coffees arrived the manager explained that he had incorporated the offer to reduce our bill and we were indeed very pleasantly surprised to pay only £33 inclusive of 3 soft drinks. I have no hesitation in rating both the quality and the value of this meal as OUTSTANDING.

Excellent quality food, all 4 main courses looked and tasted different, all really nice. Not the cheapest but that old saying you get what you pay for definately applies when you order from this restuarant.

We visited The Purple Rooms with my very elderly parents, 90 and 92 years old!We were given careful attention from when we arrived and nothing was too much trouble. Staff advised on what my Mom should eat as she has chewing problems which was really helpful. A lovely evening, yet again

I've been coming here with friend and family for many years now. Food is always a level above any other Indian restaurant and service is second to none. Lovely staff!

Popped into one of our favourite restaurants on a family day out. My daughter loves the place and it's one of the few places where we share our food together. The warm melted chocolate cake for dessert was enjoyed by us all. Fantastic meal.

Some months ago now but we booked a table one evening. Arrived bang on time to find there was no table for us. They had obviously give it to someone who had just walked in. No tables available only in the back room tucked away on our own. We refused to sit in there so walked out. Booked well in advance( 4 days I think) . Sorry but we would not return here even though we have eaten here for years. Restaurant was much better when the dad Mr Choudrey owned it. Customer service has gone down the pan I'm afraid. Also the staff need training on how to treat paying customers.

Having checked out the reviews we visited this restaurant on a Tuesday night after spending the day at the Caravan Show at the NEC. We were not disappointed. Being on a carb free diet the waiter was pleased to offer me mushrooms instead of potatoes in the Saag Aloo. I had this with sea bass gently spiced and a side salad and it was absolutely delicious. Highly recommended.

Been in this place several times .. All I could say service is good, atmosphere is nice and warm, 3 of us ordered from the menu.. 2 of us liked and one doesn't like, and all of us liked their carrot halwa.. With vanilla ice cream!! Food is ok!!

Visited on the back of existing trip advisor feedback as didn't know the area but wanted a good curry on a Friday evening.Excellent Indian restaurant - really friendly attentive service with excellent food. Has a good range of curries and some more unusual offerings such as the Deshi roll as a starter (chicken in a dough mixture in egg, deeply fried). Little touches like the pickle tray being replenished when we ran out make all the difference service wise. Curries really nice and I had the best peshwari nan I have ever had in an Indian restaurant (as a curry fan, I find they vary enormously from one restaurant to another). Had a lemon rice as well which was really lovely with fresh pieces of lemon in it. Portion sizes and spicing of curries spot on.

Four of us came to The Purple Rooms for the first time. Décor was good, welcome excellent. There was a varied menu, with some old favourites and some slightly different items.All four starters were excellent, especially the nargis kebab. Three of the main courses were also excellent, the only disappointing one was the biryani which was very oily, tasting as if everything had been fried.The portions were generous, the food well presented and hot (in temperature) and delicately spiced.Sadly, we were the only people dining for the whole evening, which rather reduced the ambience. I suspect that this was due to the fact that on other evenings of the week, Purple Rooms has special offers.Four starters, four main courses, assorted rice and naans, five beers/ciders - £71; excellent value. We will certainly return, but just avoid the biryani.

went to Birmingham to take my young niece and nephew home.we went to the purple rooms for our family meal.my family have been boasting to me about how good the curry houses and curries are here.they think Birmingham is the "curry capital of Britain".well in one of their arguments they win.the purple rooms is a great curry house with fabulous food.our starters,the mains and even the sides were beautifully spiced with the right amount of herbs,spices and salt used.each curry had it's own distinctive flavours and tastes,each mouthful was like a page out of a book with different stories,characters,emotions.each mouthful reflecting different flavours,different tastes,it was almost like india in your mouth,amazing.the restaurant was busy,the service was good,the waiters friendly and alert to your needs.the purple rooms is certainly one of the BEST Indians that I have ever dined at.as for "the curry capital of Britain"well i leave that for others to judge,but in Birmingham purple reigns

After a craving for some late night Indian food, I ordered a chicken curry from The Purple Rooms. As always you can rely on it being both delicious and good quality.

Super food, varied menu catering for all tastes. Staff are friendly and accommodating. Have used Purple rooms many times and have never been disappointed. They also offer a takeaway menu which we have used for parties at home with good results. Highly recommended.

Although the staff were very polite and accomodating, our experience wasn't good at all. The glass of Coke was flat, served out of a litre bottle, when we mentioned it they replaced it with a fresh glass bottle which should of been served in the first place. The £3.50 bottle of Cobra was part of a multi pack which clearly stated not to be sold separately.The mains we ordered were flavourless and bland, the Rogan was more sliced tomato than anything. The high reviews are from clientele that have a specific taste for uninspiring curries, don't be fooled so much better around Birmingham.

I brought my close friend here for an evening meal. The staff were so generous and kind to him...and really made him feel at ease. He ordered 'The Rooms Platter' which was a delicious selection of grilled meats and the chef even kindly made some changes to the dish to suit his needs. We finished by sharing the luxury chocolate cake and caramelized apple tart. I can't thank the staff enough for looking after me and especially one of my dearest friends.

My family and I have been going to Purple Rooms for 10+ years. The food is always amazing and the guys that work at Purple Rooms are top blokes. Couldn't recommended the place more...

This was my first experience, a colleague is a regular here so attended on her recommendation. The environment is small which creates an intimate homely feel. The restaurant is clean and tastefully decorated. There is a good selection on the menu even for a non-meat eater like me. We shared two starter platters one of which was vegetarian which gave us samples of the selection of foods available. I had a fish dish as a main, it was lovely and the portions were generous. Staff were attentive but not invasively so. We had a lovely relaxing time. They do a 3 course meal for £9.95 on Mondays and Thursdays, I will definitely attend on one of those days!

We had a curry here last night. The curry I choose was not quite what I wanted I explained to the waiter and asked if I could have some of the ingredients left out and if the curry could have a bit of a kick to it. When the curry arrived it was lovely. So tasty, just right. All food we had was very nice. We found the staff very helpful and friendly nothing too much trouble. We will definitely be returning

Always feel relaxed, with lovely friendly staff. Staff are always happy to suggest new meal to try. Food is always piping hot and well presented. You can not fault this restaurant, we always have a relaxed evening, staff never rush you.

This was a very very pleasant return by us to get a meal from the Purple Rooms. What can I say but the food is truly amazing . The menu is long ,and full of dishes I've never encountered before . You are totally spoilt for choice. We ordered , collected , took it home and enjoyed two excellent dishes. The staff here are friendly and so polite . This is one of the best Birmingham Indian restaurants I/ we have eaten at and had takeaways from.

This is my favourite curry house to eat at in Birmingham. It has a relaxed and comfy setting, with excellent, professional staff. They make you feel welcome and are on hand to discuss any dishes you may not of heard of before.On this visit there were 8 of us to celebrate my moms birthday, we all had starters (2-1 on a Wednesday night) everyone said how nice they were, with my own fish a highlight. My mom wanted something that wasn't on the menu for her main and they were happy to make it, whilst my sisters boyfriend wanted extra spice, again they were happy to oblige. everything was good and eaten.We all had starters, mains, sides and a couple of drinks and it came in at 23 a head including a well deserved tip.
