It is such a shame that this once vibrant and welcoming charming village pub has been allowed to become run down . Opening when it pleases , sometimes not at all . We have known this pub for many years and it is heart breaking to see it barely trading as a pub . One wonders what the owners will do with it next . We stayed locally recently and in the whole week we were there it was open once , Thursday night 6pm-8pm . Really feel sorry for the locals , who always supported the pub , and for the many tourists who will be very disappointed when they arrive and find the doors shut . We even tried to contact the owners to ask when they would be open but they couldn't even answer . If you want a decent , traditional pub in the area try Royal Oak at Hornby .

We have been staying in the village and have spent the last 3 evenings having a quiet drink in this pub .....really friendly owners.....exceptionally dog friendly ( water and treats for our little dog).....lovely ambience....Great music playlist....we also had a nice meal on the Saturday night...nothing fancy, scampi chips and peas...but hot and tasty.... there was nothing veggie on the menu....but they were more than happy to make my partner a veggie meal .....the log burner in the corner made it toasty warm and welcoming....would recommend to anyone

Staying in the village & went for a meal on the Wednesday evening. Our dog was made most welcome with a bowl of water & a bowl of dog biscuits. The staff were extremely friendly & helpful. I had an unusual starter of Morecambe Bay shrimps on a crumpet, most unusual but delicious. This was followed by by the thickest, most moist sea bass ever served with new potatoes & green vegetables followed by a homemade mint chocolate mousse which was light & delicious. My husband had chicken wings & fish & chips which was really good. Will definitely return if in the area again.

We have a cottage in the village and regularly eat and drink at The Punch Bowl. Be careful: there are several Punch Bowls in the area - make sure you visit this one - in Burton-in-Lonsdale! So many village pubs have closed for ever. The village and its visitors are extremely fortunate that Mick and Heather bought the pub after it had been closed by the brewery. They and their staff are always welcoming, the service is excellent, the beer is well kept, and the food is unpretentious, but delicious.

We’ve been staying in Burton in Lonsdale for a break, we called in on our first night for a drink, chatted to Heather the landlady who kindly offered to supply us with the coffee and tea I’d left in sussex when packing! our dog was provided with snacks and we had a lovely drink in the garden. Returned for dinner this evening, my guilty pleasure of scampi and my husband had fish and chips with the most delicious onion rings .. a few drinks and a really lovely chat with John front of house and behind the bar. Spotlessly clean and decorated. We were made to feel very welcome and if we lived locally they’d have seats with our names on! Thanks you !

Mediocre food, great and friendly service. The best part of the meal was a Brie and bacon salad. The Guinness stew had 2 pieces of meat, A3 pieces of carrot and 2 lumps of mashed potatoes. The gravy was tasty. The other dish was cabbage and bacon, over salty cottage roll and flavourless cabbage with some parsley and bland mashed potatoes. Best thing, amazing staff and service

We traveled to the local area on Holiday. On the day we arrived we phoned up to book and see if it was dog friendly they confirmed that they welcomed dogs, and they did even brought out Border terrier and bowl of water and a smaller bowl with a few treats in. This was important to us as it was our first holiday with our dog and was a little apprehensive how welcome we would be with him. The food was great and the staff/owners friendly and helpful. Sure we will be back before the weeks out.

Visited here today as we are staying in the village and wanted somewhere local so we could enjoy a drink. The website advertised Sunday lunch served 1 till 5pm. When we arrived we were given a menu with various bar food choices on it and no mention of Sunday Lunch as I had got myself all psyched up about having a roast. The food choices were fine, just average bar food with little imagination and, I would imagine, very little preparation. I chose halloumi, fish pie and profiteroles and my companion chose halloumi, chicken caesar and sticky toffee pudding. I could guarantee that the halloumi and both the puddings were bought in and the fish pie and caesar salad were made on the premises. I heard another diner asking about the roast and the servers reply was that there was no demand in the sumner. It would be easier to make this clear when people are booking so that they could go elsewhere for a roast. When people have arrived, it is a bit late to tell them. The decor of the pub is lovely, very tastefully done so the very average food made it a bit of a let down.

Stayed at The Lister Arms for a couple of nights mid week. We stayed in the Lister Barn which is a 2 minute walk from the actual pub. Cosy and warm, tastefully decorated with lovely toiletries - a real gem of a place. The main pub is really cosy, with a gorgeous fire burning all day and evening. On arrival the pub does not inspire confidence in the quality of food - but it was really very good. I was dubious about the sizes of sunday roasts after reading a previous review - and to be fair, the plates do not arrive loaded with masses of veg or mash. However, we all left feeling satisfied and it really felt like well prepared, high quality food. The steak and ale pie, and steak and ale yorkie had the same filling, which was superb.
