The Pub in Dumfries & Galloway

Great little pub. Had a wait for food, but it was worth it. Portions are huge. There is no such thing as 5 wings as the menu advertises was closer to 12. Guy, behind the bar was amazing. I couldn't fault him. Limited on tables is the only downside, but on a Tuesday night in October, got a seat.

Ticks all the boxes - welcoming atmosphere, friendly staff, good portions and delicious food! I'd advise visiting early if you plan on dining as tables are sparse.

Booked a table via email as it gets busy. The pub has a large choice of drinks so there’s something for everyone. The bar staff are very friendly and welcoming. The cheese topped garlic bread was lovely (and huge). The chilli burgers were delicious. We weren’t expecting such large portions so we ordered far too much food. Really enjoyed our meals. Highly recommended!

It was immediately welcoming. We wanted a few beers and something to eat. The food was worth the wait, however we were given a free drink (without asking) from the bar man as we did have to wait. Would definitely recommend as cosy, dimly lit and friendly.

Some of the best pub grub I’ve had in a long time; the IPA Buffalo Wings were outstanding. Make sure you’re hungry as the portions are generous. Lovely, welcoming staff too.

We are here yesterday afternoon as a group of 10. All enjoyed the food. Portions were generous, food was good and price was reasonable. Would recommend.

Great pub. The staff could not be more friendly. We went in for a meal but due to a family emergency they were not serving food. The landlord offered us a free drink and allowed us to buy takeaway food and bring it back to eat. He even provided plates and cutlery. We stayed all night for drinks and to watch the live band. What a great night.

We went in when we had time to kill. I asked about a gluten free vegetarian meal as there was nothing on the menu to suggest this was catered for. The barman went and asked the chief and they made me a stuffed pepper which was lovely. I was really impressed. The price was extremely good.

Having looked for a nice, friendly pub to have a wee drink, and a meal i stumbled across this place on Google.... Travelled up from Near London, to find its not even open!!! Footballs on and the place is shut.... Evan on Google, says open!! Disappointed to say the very least..... Shame, pics looked good!! Disgruntled Traveller

Visited this establishment while in stranraer again at weekend and i was very upset to see a couple of things changed 1 being the bar staff davie and dean who i met first time around not there dean has left and davie was off dean will be a great loss to the place as he kept it goung and davie is just as good shame there was aleays a guy at end of the bar giveing orders for drink

I have been drinking in the pub since 1990 and i would recommend it to anyone and everyone.Best staff i have encountered and that includes Dean and Davy who go above and beyond when it comes to their job.As for Robert the owner.top fella who always looked after my father and would do anything to help you .5 stars for the PUB.

Friendly staff and excellent food, huge portions, struggled to finish it although were warned we would struggle. Loved it. Highly recommend the steak (whether sanni or steak and chips) it was cooked to perfection! also the macaroni was fab! If our stay here was longer we would definitely be back 😊💯

Tuesday where other restaurants were closed and we chose this place because of reviews. Welcomed on entry, drinks order taken and drinks arrived dinner orders taken for all 5 of us, Food delivery was slow so we ordered more drinks although after two selections staff left without waiting for the rest of the order. Dinner arrived for four (oops) but still no drinks. Waited for another 20 minutes and noticed staff going for a break. Still waiting for my meal and drinks so went and had a word - not rude. When dinner finally arrived (others had finished) we were told off for showing her up in front of her friends. Needless to say we won't ever go back. The food? Yes that was very good - thanks chef.

Second time we have been here. Stayed at Aird Donald camp site so wasn’t far to walk. First pub we came to and the one we kept going back to. So friendly right from the start. Fantastic music, great staff and good drinks. Barman was very nice, friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend and go back again.

I always used to go to Stranraer Tandoori whenever I was in town but its changed hands and the recent reviews have been terrible so I decided to try The Pub next door instead. The service was great, really friendly barman and the prices were very reasonable. There's quite an extensive menu; I tried the Chicken Katsu which was great- good portion size, tasty and well cooked. I'll be sure to return next time I'm in Stranraer.

We went there twice on a recent visit. Once for a drink and another to listen to some music. Good staff and good selection of drinks. We were given free Irish stew as it was st Patrick’s weekend. Good juke box as well.

The town is low on really cool joints to hang in so this is a real find. Great back bar and huge gin selection along with a top end bar-snack selection! Worth a visit if in town.

Table for 17 booked and meals pre ordered unfortunately fell flat took over 2 hours to get meals on table and for the majority sub standard excuse being that they had been over run during day.

Nice pub, the beer was ok but due to it being Monday it was very quiet, we quadrupled the customer count when we walked in. Clean and pleasant though and I would go back.

I visited here when going for the ferry back home to Belfast. Full of nutters and roasters with a crap five piece band playing. Best avoided! Good waft of skunk on the way in as well! Also challenged to a fight in loos, not good!
