A quick beer, very nice and quite crowded place. The company was excellent, so fun was guaranteed.

Great visit in September 2024 to the upstairs dining area. Bit difficult to find menu items that were in stock and within our allergy guidelines but our server was great about helping us find something to eat. Nice hidden gem!

Great place to eat and drink with an enjoyable atmosphere. My allergies were very catered for as staff show you a tablet with the menu on it that shows what I can order. Our server, Jaxon, was very helpful and attentive. An overall enjoyable experience in such a short distance from Embankment Station.

after a long flight and checking into our hotel wanted to grab a drink and something to eat, my family and i were welcomed by a lovely team, fast and efficient service. i had the steak and ale pie, my daughter had a fish and chips, and my partner had the halloumi nourish bowl. we also shared a few puddings too. generous portions and was very tasty. we ate in the dining room, that had a lovely atmosphere. our server Etido was lovely, super accommodating, asked about allergies (even though we didn't have any) bar downstairs was nice, good music, would visit again

Perfect place for a pint! Open till late and reasonable prices for the area... beautiful Christmas lights and decorations making for a lovely atmosphere too. Welcoming and kind bar staff that clearly know what they're doing!

Had a lovely evening in this cute little pub. Friendly staff and nice food and great location right next to the station for the journey home.

I went there to have dinner with family my wife and sister in law both ordered vegan pie and all they got was pie and a couple of vegetables no mash or chips at 17 pounds I thought this was a bit rubbish so they ordered extra chips to go with their meal and was told by the waitress that pie dosent come with mash very disappointed

Just walked past. Currently closed with no notices 🤷🏻‍♀️ Edit for clarity: Originally posted yesterday - I checked Google maps and the website, both show an opening time of 11am. I tried the door - closed and locked. Hung around until 11:30 and gave up. Hence the 🤷🏻‍♀️

Much too small of a space to offer food. Don't bother without a reservation. Impossible to get a spot to eat. I suppose that makes sense, as a pub its number one priority would be catering to the prevalent drinking culture

The food was great but took a very long time to come. We also waited about half an hour for our drinks. There were only a few other people there so I couldn’t see a reason for the delay.

Popped in here while having a few days away on London , great bar for watching sport , and they had the Newcastle match on , TV’s at both sides of the pub so great viewing .. good little boozer, good selection of beers , and good service ..

Great historical pub and warm welcome atmosphere.

For a central London pub it is good! The location is right by Charing cross station so great as a meeting place for colleagues and friends. Seating is a bit tight downstairs but that's in the British pub tradition.

Great meal, the traditional fish and chips was super good and plentiful! The waitress is pleasant. My mother was allergic and they are very careful about allergies. Go there with your eyes closed Thank you for this moment 😊

Eveyrthing is alright but thier Guinness doesn't tasted good. I was sturggling to finish my pint.

It’s £7.20 for a pint of Madri. MADRI! Not some exclusive craft beer, a mass produced cheap lager. This pub is in the centre of London and its prices explain why it was so quiet on a sunny Sunday evening. A horrible rip off.

Great and amazing service from you guys, thank you Alison and Josh “as late find your name”, for making our day better and highlight, by being really helpful of recommending the best beer/wine and one of the healthiest food ever from a pub. Really enjoyed, and love to hear that one of my fav “The Jungle Book”, have been wrote between those walls ☺️😇 Compliments to the chefs, for going beyond and delivering such an excellent meal ☺️

Amazing food - went here because of the good gluten free reviews. They asked me if I would like them to clean utensils for them in the kitchen to ensure no contamination. They gave me a separate menu to look at which detailed the allergies for each option. Really recommend!

Delicious and reasonably priced food in a very nice atmosphere

All the years I've passed this pub on the way to the station. I decided to go and try it and it was better than I expected.

The service is terrible and I had stuff floating in my water. We waited for 20 minutes for our waiter to even come talk to us initially.

A meal before seeing I play in the west end. Nice history relating to Rudyard Kipling. The food and cask beer was good with a great choice.

Not a bad place. Limited service due to events in the area though. Want easy to find a seat and could not use upstairs unless dining. Maybe will try again another day.

An olde worlde pub on the outside and a bright modern pub on the inside. The barman was very helpful (unlike the manager) and cheerful. This is not an overly large bar and the tables were fairly tightly packed around the walls but there is more seating upstairs. The Guinness was excellent as was the London Pride

Good pub for stopping off for pre-drinks. Excellent range of beers with a very well curated pint of pride. Food is average pub fayre, not exciting but not off-putting. Often crowded on "event" type days, but fits the bill for a proper London boozer.

I feel embarrassed i went here its basically a pub to scam tourists , The food is super overpriced and then you have to play a huge service fee on top, i don't mind paying service at a restaurant but not a dirty smelly pub where the server drops a drink on your foot and then charges you £15 for service fee for the pleasure

I must say, the food was nothing short of spectacular. Every dish we tried was a testament to the restaurant's commitment to quality and flavor. Nice place to be after work. Limited types of beers served. Nachos was the only food that we asked for, which wasn't as spicy as Mexican restaurants offer.

I've visited this pub on a few occasions when in London as it is always very friendly and provides a traditional pub experience. During my most recent visit I dined with the family for the first time and I was extremely impressed with the quality of pie and mash. Great value for money and a lovely spot for lunch. As mentioned this wasn't my first visit to this pub and I highly doubt it will be my last. The Guinness is great too 👍

Nice watering hole right near charing cross station, very handy when you've missed your train. Like most places, or so it seems, could do with more staff on. We went in just after 14.00, and there was only 1 member of staff serving behind the bar and waiting tables.

Terrible experience this afternoon, turned over the Grand Prix mid way through the race, refused to turn it back over even though the other two televisions were already showing football. Refused a refund when we asked as the only reason for ordering was we were watching the race. Horrible attitude, and horrible customer service

Love it here! Staff are friendly

Love this place. With most of the surrounding watering holes becoming pretentious plastic posing palaces, this pub has the warmth of traditional wood. This gives it a fantastic feel to it and you sense there's a history here that has been driven out of other venues. I've not tried the food, but the plates served to other customers looked very good and I did not see any unhappy faces from those that were eating. This is very much my kind of place. Long may it continue.

Good selection of beers and food

Excellent, like all the pubs in the Nicholson's chain, they never disappoint! The welcome is very warm, the staff are really very friendly, the food is excellent, I tried the Nicholson's fish & chips, it's absolutely mouth-watering, served with mashed peas and tartar sauce, the beer is also excellent. The restaurant room is upstairs, much quieter than the room downstairs which is only used for drinking and chatting. On the website of the Nicholson's chain, in addition to photos and a detailed menu, there is also the possibility of booking a table.

Visited in February 2015. Busy and crowded pub with a decent selection of cask and keg brews. I only had one pint because I didn’t want to stand while drinking. Might visit again.

A typical English pub with atmosphere and craft beer. We took shelter here from the rain. The weather explains why there are so many pubs on this beautiful land. The theory was confirmed by a very nice bartender. The guy, an Englishman from Manchester, was telling us in poor Polish what a "chip with milk" tastes like. They serve food on the first floor.

We went there for lunch and they were extremely slow! Normal quality and very watered down coffee.

Calling it "delicious" would be an understatement. This burger is a culinary masterpiece, featuring a succulent, perfectly cooked patty, layered with the finest, freshest toppings, all encased in a soft, yet sturdy bun that holds everything together beautifully. Each bite is a symphony of flavors, making it clear why this burger is a highlight of their menu. Paired with their selection of ales, it's a match made in heaven.

Perhaps terrible luck, but three times I asked for different plates and three times they came back to tell me they didn't have it right now.

Stopped by for some drinks before a show and was pleasantly surprised! Lovely atmosphere, bar staff were very friendly and offered recommendations on their selection of gins. Would definitely go back

This pub has a great atmosphere downstairs, but we chose to go upstairs because we wanted to eat. We were about to sit at a table at the window but the wait or told usvit was booked. (Out of 15 tables 2 were occupied, and they left shortly after our arrival. No other guests arrived for the table we wanted the whole time we were there. My husband had steak and ale pie, which he said was great. I asked if I could have the nourish bowl without the brown rice, but was told no, because the salads were pre-prepared. I then asked if I could have the chicken, bacon, and avocado salad but with no dressing. The waitor said yes, that was fine. What actually came was a chicken and bacon salad that was laced with a sweet lemon dressing. It was not edible. I decided to just eat the chicken, then realised I had no avocado. I spoke to the waitor and he bought me a plate with 5 slices of avocado. I didn't complain because by this time I felt very uncomfortable and just wanted to get out of there. But why can't you just get what you order. It would never happen with any other meal. If you ordered seabass and broccoli, you would not be given deep fried fish and peas. Are the waiting staff to blame for not instructing the kitchen correctly or are the kitchen staff to blame fir not following instructions. Who knows but I was not made to feel welcome and I will not be going back there.

Princess of Wales Nicholson’s Pub in London exceeded my expectations. Marc, Stephanie, and the entire crew provided exceptional service. The savory pies were outstanding, and I highly recommend this spot for a fantastic dining experience.

Food was excellent and our server mark was polite and extremely laid back which is a nice vibe to have when eating anywhere

Had a late night couple after going to the theatre. All ok until some chaps kicked off with an argument where a fight seemed to be on the cards. Very off putting and all seemed to be missed by the bar staff and bouncer on the door. All fizzled out on its own in the end, but we didn’t need to the stress of it as they were encroaching too close to us at the bar where we were sitting on stools.

Nice traditional pub, liked that the dining room was separate upstairs as quieter. Friendly staff and really good food especially the pies, only negative was a bit overpriced.

Waiting for food is way too long, over one hour, tables before us got served before, have to stop waitress to ask for drink, staff is not looking after customers, later after 70 minutes half of the table got the food and the other half was still waiting

Popped in with my kids for a a bite before my train. Just a stone’s throw away from charing cross station so its perfect of you just need to kill some time

I wasn’t expecting much from this pub. I saw it as a little place to get some work done I needed to catch up on and have a few glasses of wine. Chain pubs being what they are, I anticipated a short and dull wine list, though I was greeted with a delightful selection of wines spanning from South Africa to Italy. I opted for a malbec from (I believe) Argentina, which I had with some Padrón peppers - as I wasn’t particularly hungry. I was very impressed with the bartender’s knowledge of the wines, not just the geographical knowledge, but he was able to tell me about the tannins and flavour notes; much more than I’d think most pub bartenders would know. All in all, the next time I’m in London for work, I know exactly where I’m going to go!

From the very first second I stumbled upon this premise, I felt welcome, probably because it was warm inside and winter outside. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole seven or so minutes I spent there. They sold crisps, and I was pretty hungry waiting for my train home from Charing Cross. Given the track record of Southeastern, I should visit again.

Superb Stout and service available

Atmosphere was lovely but the bar staff were really not on it and didn’t care. The shots we ordered were terrible… £4.20 for a shot that wasn’t even a full shot glass and was really poor quality

Having made reservations months ago preparing for my first London visit, I noticed you were close to my tour and had good fish and chips reviews. I arrived at my reservation time and was informed they were out of fish and chips, all burgers, ribeye steak. I then ordered what seemed to be the only thing in the kitchen that day, the steak pie. It was good, to avoid a 1 rating. Staff was ok, I’m sure they were tired of having to tell everyone that they were out of stuff, but waiter seemed very dismissive.

Food ok, bit pricey. Took ages for the meal to come [lunch] wasn't a if they were flat out in the kitchen

We came here for a pre-dinner meal in the upper dining room. What a mistake. Service was terrible. It took a long time to be brought menus. Food menus only arrived. Had to ask twice for drink menus. First, drinks took a while to arrive. Food then also took a long time. But when it came, only two of our three entrees arrived. The third arrived after two of us had already finished ours. Paying for our meal also took a long time to the point we were at risk of being late for our show. Through all this there was no concern shown by staff, no apologies made and no offers to compensate for the poor service. Really bad experience.

Apart from getting the most angry barman I've ever met, this place was a welcome retreat from the hustle and bustle.

We visited for lunch and were served by mark who was so good and both very attentive towards us. Both my husband and I ordered from the pie section of the menu. I had the lamb shank cottage pie which was absolutely stunning, my husband had the steak and ale which was delicious with really soft pasty the meat in both pies was falling apart on the fork. We are Welsh so felt the name of this pub was a good choice upon entry, we couldn’t have been more right. Would 100% recommend this little place and we look forward to visiting again in the near future.
