Atmospheric place with very good food.

We were the only people in the restaurant so no atmosphere. Restaurant is up a fairly steep flight of stairs which were not easy on elderly knees Also toilets down two flights! Such a shame as food was delicious.

Very nice pub my gorgeous girlfriend found. I couldnt wait to feast my eyes on her. Good selection of beverages, naturally.

My wife and I dined here at 6 pm on a Sunday evening and both ordered the BRITISH STEAK & NICHOLSON’S PALE ALE PIE – a pie that was awarded gold at the British Pie Awards. The dish promised a blade of beef in Nicholson’s Pale Ale gravy, encased in a thyme-infused pastry pie. Upon arrival of our food we’re impressed by the pie’s substantial size—about 8 to 9cm in height and a similar diameter. However, while the pastry and the gravy within the pie were nice, the pie was noticeably lacking in beef and only contained about 20% of the filling we expected. The few pieces of beef present were quite chewy, which was disappointing considering the pie’s high accolades. Despite our initial hesitations about dining here, the excellent reviews had persuaded us. We decided not to raise our concerns at the time to avoid any awkwardness. But compared to other steak and ale pies we’ve enjoyed at various restaurants and pubs previously this one fell well short. It almost seems like they may have been the last pies made during the end of a production run on a busy Friday. We can only assume this was a one off! There is a nice ambience in the restaurant and the gentleman serving was courteous and professional. Based on our overall experience, we have rated it a Three had we just based it on the quality of the food? It would’ve been a two had pie been of the award winning quality we expected we would have rated at our experience a 4

Traditional old English London Pub. Warm and inviting with plenty of seating We went for lunch and food was great,nice and filling,great wholesome tasty pies. Staff were polite and attentive,and service was fairly quick. On a cold winters day this is a very inviting place for lunch . Toilets down some stairs,extra seating upstairs.

A brilliant pre-theatre find. We couldn't believe how good this place was. Most other places were very crowded but there were tables available, a brilliant waitress and a perfect pub menu for a cold Thursday night in January. The food came quite quickly, was hot, and was delicious. I cannot fault this place. My sincere thanks to all.

after a long flight and checking into our hotel wanted to grab a drink and something to eat, my family and i were welcomed by a lovely team, fast and efficient service. i had the steak and ale pie, my daughter had a fish and chips, and my partner had the halloumi nourish bowl. we also shared a few puddings too. generous portions and was very tasty. we ate in the dining room, that had a lovely atmosphere. our server Etido was lovely, super accommodating, asked about allergies (even though we didn't have any) bar downstairs was nice, good music, would visit again

A pub I pop in to every now and then, always seems to be short of ale and the girl behind the bar clearly didn't want to serve anyone,I would go in again

Typical English pub, a little dirty but acceptable

While searching for another place we couldn’t find, we stumbled upon this pub and were so glad we did. It had a great atmosphere and surprisingly good bar food. Although the wait time for drinks and food was a bit long, it was still reasonable.

We had a lovely meal at the Princesses of Wales last week. The food was lovely (veggie burgers and steak & ale pie. The upstairs restaurant was really nice and very good service. Would definitely go again and recommend, thank you!

Wonderful vibe and interiors, very warm ambience. Really a shame we had the flattest beers here. Just took a sip of our two and took them back (assumed they had a problem with the taps). Was told that they're like that because the beers on tap. I obviously not true, and they tasted horrible. Would definitely only go for the beer bottle or can if I ended up there again. Could be dirty taps or improper CO2 levels.

They have a great menu and the food is great. It is a fun and relaxing atmosphere. We were in for a 48 hour trip and it was perfect for starting our day. Hope to get back there.

A proper ' on the way to the station' London Pub - leather seating, traditional bar - time has stood still pretty much in the Princess of Wales - a good thing in a world of change.

We had booked a Sunday lunch more than a week before and then arrived there punctually at the agreed time, only to be told that the kitchen was closed for reasons beyond their control. I can understand any inconvenience, God forbid, but the fact of not notifying me I find it inconceivable and extremely rude. Obviously I can't judge either the food or the service. BAD! (Luckily we found a wonderful pub a few steps away, where we had a wonderful time).

Found this little pub while walking around and decided to give it a shot. Couldn't have been happier. The staff were very friendly. Service was good. Only went in for drinks, but will definitely be coming back.

Kit nos recibió desde el principio y no podría haber sido más agradable. La comida era deliciosa, y el servicio era de 10 sobre 10. Great visit in September 2024 to the upstairs dining area. Bit difficult to find menu items that were in stock and within our allergy guidelines but our server was great about helping us find something to eat. Nice hidden gem!

Great place to eat and drink with an enjoyable atmosphere. My allergies were very catered for as staff show you a tablet with the menu on it that shows what I can order. Our server, Jaxon, was very helpful and attentive. An overall enjoyable experience in such a short distance from Embankment Station.

Perfect place for a pint! Open till late and reasonable prices for the area... beautiful Christmas lights and decorations making for a lovely atmosphere too. Welcoming and kind bar staff that clearly know what they're doing!

I went there to have dinner with family my wife and sister in law both ordered vegan pie and all they got was pie and a couple of vegetables no mash or chips at 17 pounds I thought this was a bit rubbish so they ordered extra chips to go with their meal and was told by the waitress that pie dosent come with mash very disappointed

Just walked past. Currently closed with no notices 🤷🏻‍♀️ Edit for clarity: Originally posted yesterday - I checked Google maps and the website, both show an opening time of 11am. I tried the door - closed and locked. Hung around until 11:30 and gave up. Hence the 🤷🏻‍♀️

Much too small of a space to offer food. Don't bother without a reservation. Impossible to get a spot to eat. I suppose that makes sense, as a pub its number one priority would be catering to the prevalent drinking culture

The food was great but took a very long time to come. We also waited about half an hour for our drinks. There were only a few other people there so I couldn’t see a reason for the delay.

Popped in here while having a few days away on London , great bar for watching sport , and they had the Newcastle match on , TV’s at both sides of the pub so great viewing .. good little boozer, good selection of beers , and good service ..

I only go on my experience but we were waiting a long time for our plates to be cleared whilst alot of chatting was going on amongst staff The food was nice but didn't have what we wanted

Great historical pub and warm welcome atmosphere.

For a central London pub it is good! The location is right by Charing cross station so great as a meeting place for colleagues and friends. Seating is a bit tight downstairs but that's in the British pub tradition.

Great meal, the traditional fish and chips was super good and plentiful! The waitress is pleasant. My mother was allergic and they are very careful about allergies. Go there with your eyes closed Thank you for this moment 😊

It’s £7.20 for a pint of Madri. MADRI! Not some exclusive craft beer, a mass produced cheap lager. This pub is in the centre of London and its prices explain why it was so quiet on a sunny Sunday evening. A horrible rip off.

Great and amazing service from you guys, thank you Alison and Josh “as late find your name”, for making our day better and highlight, by being really helpful of recommending the best beer/wine and one of the healthiest food ever from a pub. Really enjoyed, and love to hear that one of my fav “The Jungle Book”, have been wrote between those walls ☺️😇 Compliments to the chefs, for going beyond and delivering such an excellent meal ☺️

Amazing food - went here because of the good gluten free reviews. They asked me if I would like them to clean utensils for them in the kitchen to ensure no contamination. They gave me a separate menu to look at which detailed the allergies for each option. Really recommend!

Delicious and reasonably priced food in a very nice atmosphere

All the years I've passed this pub on the way to the station. I decided to go and try it and it was better than I expected.

The service is terrible and I had stuff floating in my water. We waited for 20 minutes for our waiter to even come talk to us initially.

A meal before seeing I play in the west end. Nice history relating to Rudyard Kipling. The food and cask beer was good with a great choice.

Not a bad place. Limited service due to events in the area though. Want easy to find a seat and could not use upstairs unless dining. Maybe will try again another day.

An olde worlde pub on the outside and a bright modern pub on the inside. The barman was very helpful (unlike the manager) and cheerful. This is not an overly large bar and the tables were fairly tightly packed around the walls but there is more seating upstairs. The Guinness was excellent as was the London Pride

Good pub for stopping off for pre-drinks. Excellent range of beers with a very well curated pint of pride. Food is average pub fayre, not exciting but not off-putting. Often crowded on "event" type days, but fits the bill for a proper London boozer.

I feel embarrassed i went here its basically a pub to scam tourists , The food is super overpriced and then you have to play a huge service fee on top, i don't mind paying service at a restaurant but not a dirty smelly pub where the server drops a drink on your foot and then charges you £15 for service fee for the pleasure

I must say, the food was nothing short of spectacular. Every dish we tried was a testament to the restaurant's commitment to quality and flavor. The ingredients were fresh, the preparation was meticulous, and the presentation was beautiful. I would highly recommend anyone looking for an exceptional dining experience

I've visited this pub on a few occasions when in London as it is always very friendly and provides a traditional pub experience. During my most recent visit I dined with the family for the first time and I was extremely impressed with the quality of pie and mash. Great value for money and a lovely spot for lunch. As mentioned this wasn't my first visit to this pub and I highly doubt it will be my last. The Guinness is great too 👍

Nice place to be after work. Limited types of beers served. Nachos was the only food that we asked for, which wasn't as spicy as Mexican restaurants offer.
