Its not changed at all apart from the lush jukebox has gone. If you went 20 years ago its untouched brilliant blast from the past. Remember to switch your phone off!

We have been using the Pub for a number of years now and really love it. It is a truly traditional style old pub which takes you back in time with coal fires in the bar and snug. The beer is some of the cheapest anywhere in the area and is always perfectly kept and served. there is a good sized pool room at the rear of the pub leading into a fantastic beer garden with ample seating and tables. This is one of the iconic pubs in Shields that people from far and wide come to enjoy.... sadly there arent very many of these pubs left anywhere so get down there and support it and keep it trading for the future.

Sam Smiths pubs are pretty predictable. Cheap, decent beer and a quiet, calm atmosphere. Nice building. Have a no technology policy which is cool, just not great for getting a uber (or other app based taxi service) at the end of the night!

This is a special place offering a glimpse of another time in the present. Like all Sam Smith's pubs, use of electronic devices is prohibited and swearing discouraged. A pint of strong, organic lager is £3. Fires burn coal. Dogs are welcome. Discussion is encouraged. Staff are friendly. Visit North Shields, and be sure to visit the POW when you do.

Called in here on Boxing day but never again... As it was a large order, my nephew had used his mobile phone to take note of the drinks and was rudely told no mobiles allowed?? We also had a pram with a sleeping baby in and was told no children allowed. We were only told this after we had ordered the drinks as we would have walked out there and then. The pram is a double pram and was clearly visible!! My son had to stand outside in the cold with the baby!!! Meanwhile someone came in with a dog and was allowed to sit inside!! Where do these people get off with all these rules and regulations!!! Never again would we frequent this dismal pub!!!

Advised after buying my beer by the member of staff behind the bar that Mobile phones are not allowed in the pub. Now I know plenty of people whilst waiting for friends to meet up will be on their phones so I could not understand the rule and enquired why? Because Mr Smith( Brewery) said so ..ok promptly finished my pint and left to spend my money in the much more welcoming Taphouse along the road. All my friends from work joined me their instead. People run businesses from their phones these days what a stupid and outdated rule and the attitude and response to my question from the lady behind the bar will ensure I wont frequent the place again! Added to that a couple of friendly locals taking the piss out of another customer because he had a beard let's you know what type of place this has become.

Went for a drink there on a fish quay pub crawl, got a snide comment on the way out the door that we didn't clean up our own glasses. In what universe do you have to take your glasses to the bar at a pub? On several occasion I have visited here for a quick drink with friends and family. The main attraction.... the open fires...two. There are three small cosy comfortable and clean bars, one with a pool table. Tasteful decor with tasteful understated decorations at Halloween and Christmas. Interesting local photos are displayed. The beer range is fairly limited I forgot you are a real ale drinker but we enjoyed the Indian Pale Ale and the wine was pleasing. It isn’t a pub for eating out but the toasted sandwiches are great value. The staff and locals are friendly!

Great pub - one of the best in North Shields but always a bit on the quiet side. Good Beer, Great hosts and Nice clientele. Its had a recent refurbishment which has tidied the place up very nicely, but my only criticism is that the bar looks unfinished with no curtains at the windows making it quite bare and cold-looking. Nevertheless - still a great place with quality beer at just £2 a pint for Old Brewery Bitter Real Ale. Cant grumble at that...!!

Been to Dodgins many times and the food is always excellent. Went tonight with my folks (plus dog) and despite them experiencing very difficult times (electrical issues, meaning kitchen problems obviously) they were as professional and courteous as ever. The young lady serving was fantastic and when the food arrived, it was as delicious as ever. Thankyou Dodgins Yard, you deserve to be packed out every day of the week. Keep doing what you do!
