The picture shown for sausage & Mash on the website does not in any way resemble my experience today. I had sausages floating on slosh (obviously powdered potato) with congealed gravy. How anyone would put that in front of someone beggars belief. Totally inedible. Ok I wasn’t charged for it but this was after a two hour wait for a pre-ordered meal and it was cold! The restaurant had no heating so no much wonder the food was cold. Very hungry and disappointed. Uncooked fish also sent back by two others in the party. Sorry I have written this but the picture is totally misleading.

In an otherwise depressing year, we rediscovered this wonderful pub. We were regulars here 20 years ago but the owners retired and it was sold to a chain. We came without booking and hoping for lunch and were delighted to find a friendly traditional pub with delicious homemade food, excellent ales and welcoming atmosphere. Finding out that Terry and Karen have been here 9 years, we're just sorry it’s taken us so long!

Log burning fire, comfy sofa, great food. This is out of the way as for location, but it's definitely worth a drive out. The owners are great & very welcoming. It's very popular so best book. Food is great, very reasonably priced & the portions are huge so be warned.

Came here after being rudely told by a neighbouring pub that they had stopped serving food (The Horse Shoe). We were so very glad we did. The staff here were very friendly and went out of their way to be friendly. We had the steak and ale pie which was crammed full of high quality steak and the best I have tasted in many a year. The waitress was very attentive and we thoroughly recommend this to anyone who wants a great pub and lovely food. This pub deserves its excellent reputation. We were made to feel extremely welcome and will definitely return.

We chose to take a pint and pub lunch here after a morning’s country walk. The pub is CAMRA Good Beer Guide listed and we were not disappointed by the range of real ales on offer including some not tasted previously. We both chose to have a sausage baguette which was well presented, hot and tasty and served with a side salad. The service was cheerful and efficient making this an altogether pleasant experience. This is a nice country pub and one I would gladly return to.

if you are staying at an airport hotel you need a car to get to the pub, but well worth the effort. The place is welcoming, good selection of beer and home made food and sensible prices, so well worth the effort.

We visited on a Friday night, not knowing what to expect. The pub wasn't very busy but we received a friendly welcome and at 8.15pm we were still in time to order evening meals. We both chose homemade steak and mushroom pie with mashed potato and fresh vegetables. Our plates arrived ten minutes later - not long to wait and the food was wholesome and tasty with plenty of it. There was a good selection of well-kept ales and lagers. I enjoyed two pints of "Black Sheep". I understand that not too long ago the pub closed down - seemingly for good. I wish the current owners all the best as they take the business forward. To residents of the area I say - use it or lose it! I would be proud to have a pub like that in my neighbourhood.

We dined here recently and found the landlord and his wife to be really friendly and welcoming. Our 8 year old son was made a fuss of and he really liked it there. My wife had the chicken curry, our son had fish fingers chips and peas and I had steak pie chips and peas. Our food was delicious! We heartily recommend this pub and will visit again for sure.

Great food, beer apparently, friendly staff and festively decorated. Just a shame I misunderstood the entrance the landlord meant for the easiest access for our son in his wheelchair. Also found the dining area chilly - rather surprising as not really a boost for drink sales!

We werent welcome here the minute we stepped foot in the door. We had a few kids with us that sat at the table for a hot chocolate and the owners of the place couldnt have made it more obvious that we werent welcome! They were the rudest people ive ever seen behind a bar and i wish I never gave them my money!

I've been assigned to work in the Stansted area for a few months. My coworker and I found this pub shortly after arrival to the airport. After only a few visits, Terry and karen began to recognize us as "The Americans" and went out of their way to make us feel welcome to the area. The regulars are locals who return again and again. You're being allowed into an extended family where the folks around the bar will engage you and ask about you after a few visits. The beer selection is great. The food is very good. Traditional Fish and Chips, Steak pies, sausages and fresh steamed vegetables are standard. The service and friendliness is also exceptional. You'll have to look for it as it's off the beaten path, but well worth the search.

Having to take an early morning flight from Stansted needed somewhere to eat close to our B&B, the Prince of Wales was recommended. When we arrived it was 'heaving' but we managed to find a table. They were catering for a large birthday party but they said they could fit us in.We had the most delicious steak and ale pie, served with courtesy and friendliness.A great atmosphere, would definitely go here again if in the area.

Used this pub many years ago when it was nothing special and lacking atmosphere but now WOW. Saw a newspaper article about it re-opening with a variety of CAMRA approved real ales (about 6) available as well as 'the usual'.Was passing and hungry so thought we would give it a try. It was busy and buzzing inside with a good atmosphere. The food was what I can best describe as good, wholesome, straighforward, well presented pub food. eg. Scampi and chips, fish and chips, Steak Pie etc. etc and some 'specials of the day'. The food was excellent for what it was with some 'trimmings'. Dishes generally less than £10, in other places I have paid far more for poorer food. The pub is unusually situated in that it is positioned more or less on a large grass triangle at a junction but the roads are more like country lanes so not busy, it has a very large unpaved car park and seating out front and on a contained courtyard. Staff were friendly and efficient. We arrived not knowing that there was a 'private party' bookled in and despite this they were only too pleased to serve us food. In the context of being a 'Local Pub' then it deserves 5*Would I visit it again - most definitely

My late Mother-in-Law lived in Thaxted a small pretty village in Essex and whenever I traveled down to visit from London I passed through Broxted village and swung past The Prince of Wales. This pretty but unprepossessing pub has been through a few changes over the last twenty years but it was only in the last month that I ventured in. What a find! The pub is comfortable homely and warm..the menu is extensive and served all day every day except for Monday. We happened on it the Sunday before Mother's Day and were so impressed we booked a table for the day itself. The roasts were superb, veggies were catered for and there was nothing not to like. Sadly I have no reason to travel to Thaxted any more but I will travel to this pub. Brilliant

Went to go somewhere else but that was closed so kept driving until i found somewhere guessed there would be somewhere in one of the villages. Then spotted here said Home cooked food so called in. Very pleasant welcome and very helpful. I ordered the Steak and Kidney Pie it was superb and had Chocolate Junk Yard as a dessert. So Food great, Service Great. A great place if staying near Stansted overnight. i would definitely recommend and will be back sometime.

I have been to this delightful village pub a few times now and am never disappointed. This time,we booked our staff Christmas meal here and from booking the table, to the end of desert the experience was a pleasure. The managers were both friendly and helpful. The waiting staff were some of the best I have ever come across. The food was a great portion size, tasty, hot and good value.I strongly recommend this pub for lunch, evening meals or just a drink or too.

The Kings arms hosted my grandfathers wake a few months ago and I cannot recommend them enough. They were kind and helpful when setting up the wake at short notice, they even offered for us to drop over some pictures of my grandfather earlier in the day of the wake, so they could put the photos up on the walls as a memorial. It was lovely for the extended friends and family to see pictures of my grandfather from over the years. The food was also lovely, there was a few packages to choose from and they also catered for a few family members allergies. At events like this there is usually a lot of leftovers but the food was so good everything got eaten during the wake and revived a lot of complaints. Thanks again to the team there, we really appreciate your kindness at such a difficult time
