Unexpectedly stumbled upon this friendly pub on an afternoon walk, very reasonably priced drinks and friendly service.

A friendly pub serving real ale from a unique beer engine. Comfy sitting areas and a good place to meet up with an old mate.

Really sad to see this pub in the state it is now. We were offered a lunch of sausages & chips following the treasure hunt, which concluded in the pub car park. With the right amount of money and effort, this pub could be such a goldmine in a very middle class village. As it is, the decor is very dated and mismatched. The toilets weren’t particularly inviting. There were cobwebs hanging off beams everywhere and the place didn’t shout cleanliness. The garden was also quite untidy. I could live with all that but what I really object to, is being charged £5.95 for a small portion of lacklustre chips and 3 very mediocre sausages. The staff were friendly but other than that I can’t find anything about the place to recommend to anybody else. A real shame.

The pub was one of the village “legends” but was sold last year. Forget eating here as meals are now regrettably absent. Opening hours are vague and whilst being well populated in the past ~ the place is empty at times. Such a pity. The village has lost a previously wonderful amenity

Such a warm friendly pub, with amazing staff. We were staying in the village in a Landmark Trust cottage, 'The Priests House' for a few days. When we rang to book a table we realised food was served only at the weekend. But they arranged for the chef Aaron to come in & he served us scrumptious food, beautifully cooked, all the staff looked after us so well and we enjoyed their company. Pub is highly recommended, with big thankyou to Aaron, Becky and all the staff. We will certainly be back

Wow, what a treat! We booked for the Sunday lunch carvery whilst staying at Whipcott Water cottages. We arrived to find the pub in the midst of a power cut which could have been a worry but we were calmly shown to our candle lit table and after a very short delay, presented with the most amazing selection of roast food. The food was probably the best roast lunch we have ever had. Great value for money, huge generous portions and children's appetites also accounted for. The roast beef and gammon melted in the mouth. Huge Yorkshire puddings and the best cauliflower cheese. This place is a hidden gem. We couldn't fault the friendliness of staff and the warm welcome despite a stressful situation. No pretence, no frills, just great honest grub in a homely, friendly and lovely little pub. Highly recommended. Thank you to all at The Prince of Wales! See you again.

It's great to walk into a country pub and feel like your in one - most now a days seem very corporate and pretentious. Not this one, it is a true country pub with very welcoming locals and proper pub grub. The food is very well priced and comes out on big plates that a full - none of this small half full chopping board crap. The ales on tap are well kept and the prices are average for the area. I would highly recommend - especially for a good Stroll down the canal followed by a big lunch and a drink

Sadly very average standard of food! I wasn't paying the bill, had I been I would have asked for some sort of discount. Food served was NOT as described. What a shame, this village needs a good pub with good food! Service was good I have to say!

Visited after evening ramble. Pre ordered as 18 eating. All food was brought out within a few minutes of each other. Everyone enjoyed meal and said good value for money. We had eaten at The Globe in the past, so we're expecting good food and we're not disappointed. Staff were very friendly and helpful. A pity about the coffee. I paid £2.50 for a cup of instant coffee. If it had not been for this, I would have given 5 stars. I think they should invest in a good coffee machine, which would then make them a complete package. Will definitely visit again, but not drink coffee, UNLESS!

They are friendly, very efficient and they are very interested in finding out what the locals want from their pub. It is lovely to see so many people eating there again. Checked website to make sure they were open on Tuesday lunchtimes. Cycled 12 miles arriving tired and hungry and guess what, they were closed! It says it on the door but that is no use when you are researching where to eat from a distance. In retrospect, I note that the website has not been updated since 2013, and there is also another review on TripAdvisor saying exactly the same thing. Lord knows how many other people have been caught out in the same way. Pubs in the sticks need to up their game if they are to stay in business and pissing off potential customers with things that are simple to fix is just suicide.

We checked the website before we set out this morning to make sure that the Prince of Wales in Holcombe Rogus was open today (Tuesday 16th February). It said that they were closed on Mondays but open from 12:00 to 3:00pm every other day. We set off on an 8 mile walk, so were somewhat disappointed when we arrived, hungry and tired, at 1:00pm to discover that they are now also closed on Tuesday lunchtimes as well. We ended up sitting in a field with a bag of Cheddars and a couple of rock cakes for lunch, bought from the small but well-stocked shop at the garage opposite.I doubt very much that we'll bother planning a walk around a visit to the Prince of Wales again, in case they've decided to close on Wednesday or Thursday lunchtimes as well. Just be warned if you are also thinking of dropping in.

Difficult to know what to say about this pub as it was deserted, apart from one local, when we dropped by for lunch on a Friday. With the absence of any customers we had a good view of the interior and it was a bit gloomy and not as attractive as it could be. In fact it could do with smartening up and some comfortable seating provided. The blackboard menu was extensive but we went for a safe, deep-fried option of whitebait and chips! No problems with that! Service was very friendly. The best thing about the pub was it's really good range of real ales and lagers. Staropramen was on draught. The real ales were very good, the Sticky Wicket, in particular. The pub has a large car park and is set in a nice rural village, reasonably close to the Grand Western canal, about 10 minutes by cycle. The pub has potential - without turning it into a gastro-pub.

We didn't stay for food, as it would have meant eating right next to the pool table (no thanks), and when asked for ham, egg and chips, this was apparently beyond them, and all they could suggest was roast beef, egg and chips...(er, no).We had bern told that it has gone downhill recently, but did intend to try it as it was local to where we were staying.Better pubs in the area, and frankly, I wouldn't bother.

Myself and my parents visited here, whilst we were staying at Whipcott Water Cottages. It took us around 20 minutes to walk - they do offer a pick up and drop off service, but we wanted to take advantage of the lovely weather, so we decided to walk in stead! We had a lovely Sunday carvery, which was only £8 each. We got to soak up the sunshine in their beer garden as well. All in all, a very lovely Sunday afternoon!

This is a well-located pub at the heart of a beautiful Devon village and on an enjoyable circular walk along the Grand Western Canal. The welcome is warm. The beer is good. And, there are some nice touches such as free Wi-Fi and Trivial Pursuit questions on the tables. And, the food is good value although I think that the quality could be improved by reducing the size of the menu. It is also clearly quite popular with a hard-core of friendly locals who add colour to the place. But, the place could do with a good tidy-up. The grass needs cutting in the beer garden. And, there are boxes and bags of potatoes abandoned at various points inside. And, I am not sure that the separate "restaurant area" works. Go more rustic and less formal! With a few tweaks here and there this could be a gem. I hope they manage it as places like Holcombe Rogus need a great pub.

This pub is brilliant - the owners are so welcome and it has a great atmosphere. It is reasonably priced (we had a main meal for around £8 and a few drinks) and there is a good selection of food and drinks. It is everything a village pub should be and I’ll definitely be returning

Only gave 1 as half isn't an option utterly disgusting, rude staff, food was below any kind of standard and cold when I complained felt like I was an inconvenience to the staff dirty and the whole experience was extremely unpleasant wouldn't be going their again

We heard The White Hart was under new ownership so we came along for midweek lunch - it was great! We were warmly greeted by a kind lady behind the bar which had lots of ale, lager & cider choices. We ordered the daily special with a drink which for £12 was great value. The Cod & Chips and Scampi were exactly what you’d expect from a country town pub grub - well worth the money. The desert of STP was also lush. We’d definitely recommend this pub for a great quality and great value midweek lunch. We’ll come back for Sunday Lunch soon.

I am thrilled that you are getting back up and running. I've had so many relaxed and friendly hours in the cafe with friends that I am looking forward to more accompanied by a fab nut roast and side salads fit for a queen. Airy and plenty of space (unlike other cafes that cram as many in as they can) so it feels very Covid safe even without have to make big changes.

Nice enough pub. The landlord is a bit grumpy. Cosy atmosphere with the log burner. They have different mobile take away's that park outside where you can buy your food and eat in the pub too.
