Great food and selection of beers and spirits

Headed down to this place on a Friday night in desperate need of some good food after a long day. We rang up to ask if they could squeeze us in as party of 5 and they were more than accommodating and reserved us a table. The pub itself is really nice and has a cosy feel, but is really vibrant and a good atmosphere. The food menu was great and it had a great South African twist. We had the bunny chow to start and it was delicious. Our group mostly had burgers for mains and they were all superb and it was a massive portion. We all agreed the food was fantastic and would highly recommend. Staff were very attentive and helpful too, all in all a great experience and would happily go back anytime :)

From the moment we walked in, we felt incredibly welcome, thanks to a lovely young lady named Tyler. It was our first time visiting this charming and quirky pub, and the service was top-notch. Drinks were served almost immediately, and we ordered two roast dinners – shoulder of lamb, which was absolutely delicious. The roast potatoes were exceptional, probably the best I've ever had, and the vegetables were fresh, not frozen. The Yorkshire puddings were perfectly cooked, and the gravy was rich and flavourful. After our meal, I requested tap water, and it was brought promptly. Overall, it was a fantastic experience at this cosy pub, and to top it all off, we were given a box of extra roast potatoes to take home! We live in West London, but we will definitely be returning. Honestly, one of the best roast dinners I've ever had. Thank you to Tyler and the wonderful bar staff – we'll be back!

Very good Sunday roast, friendly staff, pleasant decor!

Two of us dining for a Sunday roast, one with lamb one with roast pork. Generally okay but standard not exceptionally high. Gravy overly rich and veg a bit of a mixed bag around how well they’re cooked.

Absolutely beautiful pub. Staff so friendly and accommodating. Toilets pristine and so looked after. We visited on a Sunday and our group had the beef, pork and lamb. It was the best roast I’ve ever had !! So delicious, will definitely return if in the area again. Fantastic !!

Popped down for Friday pub lunch. Food was ace, well priced and presented. They had a nice pint of neck oil and we were well served.

Fantastic food and friendly people. Serving some all time South African classics as well as British cuisine for everyone's palate. A home away from home for us saffas. Run and managed by a South African family who are always super welcoming. Absolutely worth a visit! Bunny chow is our favourite.

A few months ago I visited the Prince of George in St Albans Road, Watford a couple of times for my Sunday roast dinner. On my first visit, I didn't receive great service but nothing to complain about apart from the gravy ( very bitter) However, I visited a second time again because it was very close to where I was living at the time. The second time experience was one of the worst customer service I have experienced in my entire life and it's not a pleasant service at all no customer should have to go through such a bad experience, especially at the dining area in front of others. It's a humiliation and hate I experienced from the owner and the leading management staff. I have been around the world and I have dined so many different cuisines and so many different cultures and traditional food around the world. But the Prince of George in St Albans Road, Watford is one of the worst and most discussed services I have ever experienced in my entire life. Therefore, I thought people around the Watford area should be careful specifically if you have dark skin. The owner and the management are not very friendly with foreigners at all. "The only thing we learn from history is that we learn nothing from history." Georg Hegel beautifully said..!

I can easily say this is one of the best, most welcoming pubs in Watford! The atmosphere is always so enjoyable, whether it’s a relaxed weekday drink or an exciting event on the weekends. This pub never fails to disappoint! The food quality is top tier, always so tasty, so much variety on the menu, very clean & the service is exceptional! All of the staff are so welcoming, they make you feel part of the family! Would definitely recommend for any occasion!

7:30pm on a Friday evening and we were refused service (two people for a drink) as we hadn’t booked a table and they were too busy. There had been nothing in the FB or Insta posts all week suggesting this was necessary or even recommended. Luckily there are other pubs nearby that were busier but able to serve us.

Prince George never fails to impress! What an all round amazing evening of food, live music and beautiful memories made. It was busy so people definitely found “the spot” - was so happy I booked!!!!! Just had the most delicious meal at the World’s Best Pub. Family owned and run. Friendly, homely feel traditional English Pub “with a twist” Creamy Garlic Chilli Prawns, Bacon and Cheese Burger and delicious Goats Cheese Salad were outstanding

We had our Christmas Dinner here, food was amazing as always. Sandra, Mark and their team were very attentive and made sure our dietary requirements were met. We've eaten here as a couple and with family/friends on numerous occasions and have never had a bad meal. I can personally recommend the Durban curry, the mini bunny chow and the roast dinners. My husband says their mac and cheese is the best he's ever had.

An excellent curry with a South African twist. Great menu, again with a twist on the normal pub food. Definitely worth a visit and make sure you have something to eat. We will go back next time we have business in the area.

Went for a Sunday roast, turned up 10 minutes late and still accommodating. This place is known for the best roast in Watford. Waiters were lovely. Had a child roast dinner and was definitely more than enough for an adult portion. The veg was slightly cold and could have done with more crispier/flavour. Yorkshire puddings and Meat was delicious. Drinks were nice. Overall well priced and decent roast dinner, not the best roast dinner I’ve had. Parking was very difficult in this area as we are not from London!

The best pub in Watford, by miles. Food is unbelievable, staff are lovely/friendly and they make you feel at home. Although it’s irrelevant, the barman, Matthew, dresses fantastically 😉

Wir hatten im Vorhinein gelesen, dass dieser Pub mit zu den Top 3 der besten Fish'n'Chips in Watford zählt, leider hatten sie an dem Tag kein Fish'n'Chips, dafür haben wir Mac and Cheese gegessen. Die Portion war super, nicht zuviel, wo im Nachgang noch einiges weggeschmissen wird und auch nicht zu wenig, wo man anscheinend noch Hunger hat. Gutes Bier und schöne Atmosphäre im typischen englischen Pub Style.

Quite a small cosy pub with excellent food. Slightly more upmarket than usual pub. Smallish beer garden out back. Pub attracts people looking for a decent meal and not somewhere for sport, pool, fruit machines etc.

A bit cold in the backyard but a single cozy hear. Morning and afternoon sun only I'm afraid but the sunshine hospitality help make up for it. Music at the weekend but get in early as 10pm is the end

Part 2 Sunday roast - get the beef short rib. You won’t be disappointed Part 1 The Prince George is a great family run pub with a great South African Themed menu! Try the curry, it’s was so delicious with a big kick. My partner said the burgers always taste great. Haven’t been in a while but have been to a few Tuesday Night pub quizzes hosted by Adam. Always a great laugh! They have always been so accommodating when going with a friend which needed to have a Gluten Free menu, they were extremely helpful in this regard, cooked her meal separate so there was no gluten contamination. Well done!

Absolutely fantastic pub, we called for a drink whilst we decided what to do for tea after a long day at Harry Potter world. Why did we need to decide - this place does amazing food at fab prices so we didn't move. Nothing was too much trouble and we all enjoyed. Will defo be recommending to everyone and returning next time we head to London x

I've been meaning to post a review the last time I visited as it was just so damn good! Easter roast beef was just divine and the staff, owners are all wonderful people who make you feel welcome and part of the family! I don't say this lightly, but it's the best roast I've ever had, honestly if you're reading this, get over there and experience for yourself. Absolutely top notch!!

Just had a really tasty meal with the family this lovely very English looking pub serves beautifully flavoured South African themed foods . Just wish I stayed closer as it would be a regular for me and the family definitely recommend

Excellent service. Food is amazing. Sandra went out of her way to accommodate at short notice a funeral gathering. Coeliac and vegetarian options were also available. Only downside, is parking. There is a car park down the road, if the pub car park is full.

These warm evenings sitting in the beer garden at the Prince George are fabulous! The new team is great - they remembered my 'usual' after only one visit! Food is delicious too!

We love the George. The roast is amazing as are the buffalo wings. In fact all the food we have tried is devine and different to what you’d get elsewhere. I must try the calamari at some point. They are COVID safe with sanitiser at the entrance and in the garden. Tables are wiped between each customer and staff wear masks. Totally recommended. It’s not the cheapest venue but you get what you pay for which is high quality and a good all round experience. Well done!

When you wanna forget about the world & have a cute drinks, in a cute venue with some seriously cute publicans, the Prince George on St Albans Road Watford is just gorgeous !!!

Saddened by our visit today as we came a few weeks back and had a nice time. The new servers they had today were rude and made us feel unwelcome. Firstly we hadn't even sat down at the table they were showing us to when they asked us what we wanted to order making us feel very rushed. When we did come to order our food they had gotten an order wrong (chicken wings in bbq sauce rather than buffalo - also missing the chillies). We are not ones to make a fuss so my partner tried a wing to just see if he would be happy eating the wrong order. He had only taken 1 bite of a small wing and did not like the sauce (the quality of the wing was also poor). Therefore when the server came back with the extra drinks ordered my partner politely said that he had received the wrong option. At first the server tried to tell my partner he had in fact ordered this (he had not - all 4 of us at the table knew this). They took the plate back to the kitchen but shortly after a different server returned with the same food stating, and i quote, 'The kitchen is really busy and so you will just have to eat that. Plus you have already started eating it'. No apology, no offer to reimburse and remove the meal, no offer to wait the extra time to recieve the right meal. We were taken aback by such blunt rudeness. What makes it worse is that the servers then avoided our table throughout the rest of our time there making us feel like we had been rude or trouble making, and when we left very shortly after the meal (not having paid the service charge theu had listed on the bill) expecting to see them busy inside (due to the claim of the busy kitchen), we found the inside practically empty. Clearly they just couldn't be bothered to correct the mistaken order. Very sad as we will not be returning of that is what can be expected from the new team.

Have visited twice recently - both occasions really happy with everything. Very covid-safe, food is really delicious (you can tell it’s fresh and portions are enormous!), good selection of drinks. It’s been decorated nicely and the new owners are very welcoming. Have seen this under 4 owners in the past 6 years and this is by far the best it’s been

Collapsed Drunk Not me but one of the other customers. And this was at 3pm in the afternoon collapsed drunk on the floor. Not the sort of clientele I want to mix with.

We visited the pub on Sunday. Jodie and her team were so welcoming. We popped in for a yummy roast dinner and ended up staying the whole evening. There was a great singer who gave us a evening of entertainment. We will definitely return 😍

Used to love the PG and then all of a sudden. It shut. I remember the pub when we first moved here 14 years ago, as a place to avoid. Then it got renovated and opened up with great beers and food, the area really needed a great family pub. All of s sudden, gone. Closed and we were gutted. Now it's back, but very different. I was sceptical at first, but I've got to say, it's great. The new landlords are really friendly and helpful. They've really identified a market with their menu and in particular pizza! This pizza is amazing!! Don't take my word for it, just go and try for yourself. You won't regret it

Window advertises pizza-should say authentic, freshly made Italian pizzas. Friendly, relaxed atmosphere, unexpectedly brilliant food and a good price. Personal service from the chef- I sent a slice back because I couldn't manage the whole thing (bit greedy on my starter) and the chef came out to make sure everything had been ok and there wasn't a problem. Highly recommend.

Lovely clean back garden and amazing authentic pizzas! They even had vegan cheese for me! Definitely recommend if you need someone to go read a book with a pint. Thank you

This is basically a top notch authentic Italian pizza restaurant ran by actual Italian's disguised as a very nice pub..... Which also happens to be a very nice pub :-D

Popped in for a quick drink, saw the pizzas and just had to have one. They were excellent and ended up getting a Capone after that!

Went on Sunday evening and can honestly say, it's one of the best pizzas I've had! The pizza dough was authentic and the Calzone?! Wowsers! Highly recommend visiting. The chef said the dough is all handmade and it's truly fab! We'll be back!

The best carbonara outside of Italy! This newly opened, and v friendly pub, has a small but perfect menu. The chef is from Puglia, he and his wife make the pasta from scratch then make the perfect carbonara. I could happily eat this every night of the week. 10/10

Visited the Prince George on Friday for a pizza ... Pizza was absolutely delicious .. authentic Italian pizza Husband had the cheese and onion pizza, I had the ham, mushroom and mozzarella pizza .. both were soooo good. Highly recommend. Next visit will be trying the pasta

We had drinks in the garden on a beautiful sunny afternoon and thought we would try the pizzas. Menu is great, lots to choose from plus choose your own ingredients. The pizza was so good!!!! Really recommend . Plus live music from 3pm Sunday to ease away the day...

I ate here with work colleagues. The place was very quiet. Lots of staff available and all very friendly.A good selection on the menu.I had the Camembert to start which unfortunately had gargle any cheese inside and the macaroni cheese with pigs in blankets for main which was delicious.I would come again but wouldn’t order the Camembert again

It was the Watford member of our group of 7 whose turn it was to pick a restaurant. This month it was here. He had recommended it as he was a regular here. All four of us originally 6 today but unfortunately our friend was not well and had to be taken home after the starter enjoyed our meals. The smoked salmon starter with blinis was really nice. The schnitzel was lovely although I wish I had a sauce with it but that’s my fault. The moules looked lovely as well. Staff were very friendly and polite, service excellent. No complaints and thanks for a nice meal.
