We booked this place to celebrate our sister’s 80th birthday. 6 people of ‘a certain age’ for dinner. Unfortunately she has developed metastatic cancer, and was in hospital in the lead up to the day. The restaurant staff could not have been more helpful, sympathetic and kind, helping her to access the dining room, making sure she was comfortable, and then serving up a delicious dinner for us all. The food was wonderful, we ate the fish (ling with a fabulous salsa verde) and the pork with mustard mash, delicious. The starters were all great too. We would highly recommend this restaurant, its great food, and its young enthusiastic and friendly staff. Hats off to them!

One of the very best meals I had while traveling the UK, over 1200 miles driving. Authentic Scottish food topped off with 12 year old Dalmore for desert. If you have the opportunity to eat here, make sure you do not pass the opportunity up. Worth every penny/pence!

Sat outside on late summer day, but even if it rains, there is a clear roof fitted, so very pleasant. Attentive and professional service from staff member looking after us. Nothing was too much trouble and it can be a challenge with my dietary requirements (low fat). He had a great knowledge of how chef puts together dishes. Food was superb - steak is rare occasion for us, but definitely worth it here - the server even arranged a lower fat jus to accompany mine, instead of the creamy peppercorn sauce. If you haven't already, check this wee gem out. 4 stars for atmosphere as would be good if there was background music.

Hidden in plain sight right beside the train station, a delightful and informal restaurant. You can sit indoors or, weather permitting, in the Sitooterie, both of which have a quaint and authentic charm about them. The food is excellent- there were 4 of us so we ordered 4 different dishes to get a taste of each. All were delicious. Desserts were fabulous and we also had a cheeseboard. The service was excellent too. Attentive but not intrusive, and good knowledge of wine and pairings with food. We will definitely go back.

I booked for a party of 6, Sunday lunch/ early dinner. Information on the website stated that the set menu was the only option on a Sunday as last orders are at 5pm . On arrival we were informed that this is not the case. They have changed it so that the set menu is only available till 2.30 pm, a la carte after that. . Not good to mislead in this way. They should update their website so people can make an informed choice on whether or not to book. Food was mostly tasty, however I don’t think I’ll be rushing back. The experience was disappointing.

We are here fairly often and never fail to be impressed by all aspects of this tucked away west end restaurant. The January menu is just an excellent mix of wintery things so well balanced, each course flavoursome and beautifully cooked. Our venison was so tender and the apple crepe was, well, so 'appley'. Service is always friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. We were trying to compare The Prancing Stag with similar type restaurants in the west end and our main suggestion is No. 16 in Byres Road, an accolade in itself. Just hope the place is sustainable in such times!!

We were visiting the area to watch our hometown rugby team play against GHK, whose ground is nearby, and made an advance reservation for lunch at The Prancing Stag which was highly rated on TA. It doesn’t win any awards for chic surroundings tucked behind and above a row of commercial properties on a very busy road. However it does have a car park. On arrival we were the only customers and only a handful of others followed so it was lacking in ambiance for a Saturday lunchtime. There is a dining area outside however we chose to eat indoors which is up a stairway. Our server was pleasant and clarified some items on the menu before bringing our drinks - a glass of diet Irn Bru (£3.30 - really!) and a gin & tonic (£6.80). He also brought us a couple of warm mini rolls served with truffle butter and olive dip which were very good - and complimentary! For starters my wife had bruschetta from the Market Menu (2 courses for £18) and I had Stornoway Black Pudding (£7.95). The bruschetta was disappointing on both counts of appearance and taste. I enjoyed the black pudding which was on toasted brioche topped with a hen’s egg. For mains my wife had chosen Coley with pesto salsa sauce, the latter provided by the chef as an alternative to a cream sauce which she can have intolerance issues with sometimes. She enjoyed this well presented fish dish. I had Chicken on a bed of celeriac stuffed with haggis and served with vegetables (£17.95). I’ve tasted juicier chicken but overall I thought my mains was quite good. To finish my wife had Sticky Toffee Pudding with ice cream (£5.00) and I had Poached Peach served on toasted panettone with ice cream (£8.00). The sticky pudding was apparently a bit “overdone” but got an overall vote of being nice. My dessert was a bit dry but otherwise tasted okay. A bit of a mixed review overall and our expectations were a little dashed - similarly for our rugby team too who lost their match! Oh well, you can’t win them all.

My husband and I got married in the Fort William, Scotland area (all the way from Florida, USA) and had the Prancing Stag cater our reception dinner. The food was so AMAZING! We had a three course meal that many of our guests raved as the best food they had in Scotland. The Prancing Stag provided vegan options (just the smell of the curry made your mouth water!) and meat options (the chicken was moist and full of flavor!), amazing appetizers and canapés, and some delicious desert options. It was truly a first class meal for a very fair price. My husband and I opted to try all the options (we didn’t want to miss out) and absolutely loved them all. Rory (who runs the restaurant) and Chef Jerry were there working hard to ensure everything went off without a hitch. We can’t thank you enough for making our special day so amazing for us and our 42 American guests! And we can’t wait for our next trip to Scotland—we will definitely make a point to enjoy more incredible Scottish cuisine at the Prancing Stag!!

Food was excellent but disappointed in the portion size of 'fish of the day'. It was red mullet & I would have expected a reasonable sized fillet - what I was presented with was 3 50p sized pieces of fish! More suitable as a starter. The food here was genuinely very nice and very well prepared, having said that the portions sized were ridiculously small. I had the lamb roulafe which came with a single small potato and a single bit of tender stem broccoli. There was only 1 option for vegan/vegetarians for starter or main so a very limited menu. The staff were nice, very friendly and efficient. There were 5 of us in total and we had a small booth like which was nice and quite private but there was no fan or anything so it was absolutely roasting right the way through. Overall a nice meal but given the portion size vs cost I would not recommend it u less that's what you're looking for.

We had an exceptional meal: we started with tiny hot sesame topped rolls with chilli butter and a delicious but indescribable dip, then moved on to cured and torched mackerel and crispy ox tongue with pickled walnuts. Our mains were sublime lamb with even sublimer salt baked turnip and a seafood plate with warm spices. We drank a Romanian Malbec and a non alcoholic Seedlip cocktail. Excellent food and great service. We had the market menu which is great value. Starters if halloumi and salmon, followed by mains of hake and rump. Everything was excellent.

Second visit to this excellent restaurant. From quality of service which is very very good to the lovely food which we could not fault. Everything is presented with faultless attention to detail.

Excellent anniversary lunch in a really relaxed setting. And bonus points to the restaurant for phoning up the following day to return some cash after both server and myself overlooked the 20% discount that was meant to apply on the date. Only tiny gripe might...

Quiet little café with delicious food and lovely staff. The French toast was to die for! One minor thing is parking - arrive early to make sure you can walk to it if needed.

Always an amazing place to eat. Food is always top quality and any restrictions food wise are accommodated. Can never praise the staff or chefs higher

South side of Glasgow is starting to get a great vibe for fantastic independent coffee shops, but problem is almost all of them are on Victoria Road or Polloskshaw Road. I was walking from Glasgow Green to Queens Park, and was wanting to grab a morning cup of coffee, but all the usual places head to all mean taking a large detour, but when looking around I noticed a coffee shop appear on Cathcart Road. Great little coffee shop that is really inviting. Staff are excellent and will make your order fresh on the spot for you. Most certainly now firmly one of my top go to coffee spot in Glasgow now.
