We chose The Pound for Sunday lunch and weren't disappointed! The food was lovely and very good value for money. The staff are excellent and the service was very friendly and efficient. Would definitely go there again when we're in the area. Glad we booked ahead though as it can get fully booked quickly.

We've been meaning to dine at this pub for years and finally friends took us there today for a lovely meal. Fish & Chips and a BBC (Bacon, Brie & Cranberry on brown bloomer bread with skinny fries on the side!) It was delicious. The pub is very busy, service is very good and it is lovely and comfortable as a pub should be!

Everything was fine until the manager created an atmosphere by saying the customer was wrong and that the chicken was cooked properly. Refused to remove the cost of that dish from the bill. He strongly defended his contention there was nothing wrong. This is the first time we have experienced such service when eating out.

We only popped in on our way home but so glad that we did. A couple of pints in the beautiful beer garden with my fiancé. Then we saw the food coming out. It smelled and looked amazing. 15 minutes later, snacks arrived. Beer battered cod goujons and cheesy chips. Piping hot and thoroughly delicious. Snack? Snacks! There was enough food to feed three people. Afterwards, we rolled out of the beer garden; there was that much food. Please, please, please visit here if you like good food and crisp beers. Enough said.

Beware if you want to avoid a dose of food poisoning. I had the so called Gyros , it was served up on a piece of wood that looked like it had been in the garden, the chicken was under cooked, it looked like it had been dipped in yoghurt then put under the grill. I took one bite and decided to give it a miss, the flat bread was so hard you could not cut it so ended up just had a few of the fries. Having had one mouthful of chicken three hours later on came the result, 48 hrs on the toilet, it was the only meal of the day so there is no confusion. Not one to make a fuss I have decided not to go there again until a change of management.

A beautiful setting with such a lovely interior and environment. The staff were very hospitable and friendly. My husband and I enjoyed a delicious meal of home made minted-lamb pies, chips, gravy, and mushy peas. The desserts were equally tasty. Thanks to the Chefs, Charlie and Con. A huge thanks to Taryn and Erin who served us and frequently made sure all our needs were meet.

Passed the pub whilst on our way to Shrewsbury, so we decided to go in for lunch on the way back. On arrival we asked the staff at the bar if they had a table for 2 as we hadn't booked,no problem. We ordered drinks ,a 0% Guinness and 1/2 lager and lime and the staff gave us menu's. We both opted for 1 of the PIE options. My wife wanted the steak and kidney pudding ,but on this occasion she was advised it would be a pie,no problem, served with mash and cabbage/bacon in a creamy sauce and 'pan gravy'. For myself the Steak and Ale pie served with horseradish mash and cauliflower cheese again with 'pan' gravy. The pie crust's were perfect and the fillings good. The accompanying dishes were also good and tasty,(the horseradish mash had a real 'kick' . We decided against sweet (we were to full),so a bill of £40 was paid. Friendly staff in nice surroundings and a good place to eat/drink

When we arrived the front bar area was packed (birthday party) but we were served our pre-dinner drinks quickly and without fuss, we were shown to our table on time and our first sharing dishes (cod goujons and cheesy curry chips) arrived pretty quickly, these were both piping hot and very tasty. The main courses followed, wifey had a chicken and ham pie with chunky chips, carrots and pan gravy, I had the surf and turf (10oz sirloin and scampi),this was served med-rare and also both dishes were piping hot and incredibly tasty. This was followed by creme brûlée and a double espresso. All in all the food certainly lived up to, if not exceeded expectations, we'll definitely be back to sample more items on the menu.

We went for a meal on our last night of holidaying in Shropshire. Chose the Pound based on existing reviews and ease of booking online. (We were even informed later by email that we could arrive a lttle earlier if we wished - which we did) Both of us had sea bass with mediterranean veg for mains and tiramisu for deserts. Food excellent quality and value for money. Very good service, good atmosphere and there was even live entertainment.

This was not a good experience. Admittedly it was a Sunday evening but that should not be an excuse if you are open. Because of the limited menu I chose Battered Cod and it is no exaggeration to say that it was the worst fish and chips I have ever been served. The batter was good but the piece of fish was very small and contained a very odd piece of something. I complained and after a defensive response the server said he would tell the kitchen and the butcher (sic). We expected some feedback with an apology and perhaps even a reduced payment. Nothing. I will not go there again.

Took my parents for lunch here after visiting an ancient settlement & pine tree covered viewing point further NW in the county. Never visited before, and it was the only pub serving food that appeared to be open. So they gained the custom. But that didn't detract from how freshly cooked the food was, and not withstanding the service either. The 3 meals all consisted of excellent pub fayre. Would certainly eat here again. And be located elsewhere.Great spot by the couches and fire if just thirsty.

Visited with family during the week for dinner. Food was excellent. I had the special of the day (Pene Vodka). The chef recommended it and I was not disappointed. The service was also very good. Definitely would recommend. It is worth a visit if you are in the area!

We had our works Christmas do here for 30+ people and we stayed the night. Front of house staff were lovely and welcoming, but that is all I can really say nice about our stay. Our room was like something out of the 70/80s very twee and old-fashioned. Quilt cover had a rip in it. Bath looked old, faint smell of cigarette smoke. No soap, shower gel etc in the bathroom - to help save the planet apparently - you could request some at reception. We were woken about 6am by what I assume was some kind of water cistern behind one of the bedroom walls that sounded like a plane going over head. The party. Arrival time was stated as 7pm and most (about 180) turned up about then. We were all crowded into the bar which wasn't big enough and soon warmed up to a very uncomfortable temperature. They eventually let us in at 8pm. Drinks were astronomically expensive - £7.50 for a pint £8.20 for a Baileys or a large glass of wine (£25+ by the bottle) and £7.20 for a pint of coke!!!. The main course wasn't served until after 9pm and my beef was dry and tasteless, though others who had the turkey said it wasn't bad. And my Xmas pudding was dry too. All in all not somewhere I would ever go again and certainly don't know where it gets it 4 star rating from. I did voice most of my complaints to reception before leaving.

Have been coming here for over a year and their Panang curry is the best! Portion sizes are generous for price - we always have enough leftover for a good size meal the day following. Staff is friendly too

The service was friendly and the food absolutely first-rate. Can recommend the Ploughman’s which is loaded with cheese, really top notch ham, and lovely crusty bread. Would have loved to stay for cake but we were all too full.
