The Potted Lobster Abersoch in Gwynedd

We have been before and we were not disappointed with this visit. The staff are very friendly and efficient. My cod loin ( curried ) and my partners dressed crab were delicious . The potted starter was as always out of this world.

Lovely restaurant. Food is amazing, cocktails were far too easy to drink. Decor of the restaurant is perfect. Great menu for both meat eaters and veggies. I had the mussles, cooked perfectly, sauce was so tasty and you got a big portion! My only reason for not giving 5 is I felt a bit of a lack of service. The restaurant wasn’t overly busy and we had to ask for everything. Had to ask for a high chair 3 times, had to ask for desert menu etc. But will definitely be visiting again very soon.

We went for lunch and had a lovely experience. The food was fresh and full of flavour, the service was exceptional and the restaurant has a good balance of quality, style and relaxed vibes. Will definitely visit again when we return to Abersoch.

We had the Korean fried chicken, octopus and oysters for starters which were all excellent. However our mains and desserts were a bit of a disappointment. Lovely restaurant but probably wont visit again in a rush.

Lovely food and great service at Potted Lobster We had an accident on our table where my daughter broke her glass all over the table. Rather than just cleaning the table, they went above and beyond to clean all our tables and change our drinks, as well as change our cutlery Wonderful staff

Went there over the Easter weekend and really enjoyed it. The food was immense and the cocktails and sangria, wow, absolutely gorgeous. We’ll be back again a few times over the Summer.

i think it is a great place and a fabulous beach like interior with amazing hand drawn sea life upon the walls . Great service and friendly staff. However when met with the menu all i could think about were the outstandingly high prices . £38 pounds for my halibut , i was unpleasantly greeted with a green yellow sauce wich looked radioactive with a chewy , un flavourful slab of fish. not to mention the lack of gnocchi i was promised would be there , 4 pieces . Unfortunately this whole dish wasn’t flavourful at all, i couldn’t even tell what it was meant to taste like as i have never tasted such a thing? maybe i picked the wrong meal as my family seemed to enjoy their meals despite the high price tag on theirs to . I was also told that this restaurant was very posh and very high end however when trying to walk into the main building there were toddlers and babies screaming and crying and one sat in the entrance , in the way . Not to say this was the restaurants fault but my expectations were much grander then what i had.Completely and utterly over priced . When coming outwith my family of 4 for starters and a main meal i looked at the bill of £220! wow. For this price you can go for much nicer places in Absersoch like the cove for example , for better food and presentation very disappointed and unsatisfactory. wont be visiting again

For me, the Potted Lobster was a bit of a 'mixed bag'. I had booked the table for my OH and me a few weeks before our visit as I like my seafood; it seemed like the best place in the area. I booked mid week for dinner and the restaurant was pretty busy, but not full. We were shown to our table and sat in between 2 other couples who had been before and said they loved the food. Things didn't get off to a great start when the waiter said there was no lobster and no short ribs either. Ah well, I was surprised but not too disappointed as there was plenty left to choose from ..... or so I thought. After a chat to our neighbours, we went for the calamari to start followed by the halibut and the monkfish. Having really enjoyed the calamari, we had another visit from the waiter to say the chef didn't like the way the halibut was cooked, so could I choose something else. What? I mean, why not cook me another piece ? Surely you have some more? As an alternative, the poor waiter suggested I could have some monkfish but it would have a curry flavour. I accepted the recommendation but it was ok but not brilliant; the sauce was far too strong and the fish looked a bit 'lost' on the plate. My OH however, had the monfish thai curry which she enjoyed. For dessert I had the creme brulee which again was OK. We couldn't fault the service; it was excellent and the atmosphere was good (apart from a loud couple who seemed to enjoy having a 'face time' call with their deaf granny that everyone could hear).

We ate at lunch, booked in advance on a Saturday. The restaurant is light and comfortable with vibrant decor. The staff are friendly and helpful. The food was exceptional, delicious well thought out and good looking. Can't fault the restaurant at all.

Booked a couple of days before we ate, I should imagine it is difficult to secure a reservation in summer. The restaurant is located in the heart of Abersoch, finished beautifully with outdoor seating which we couldn't use due to the season. We were greeted well and shown to our table. Plenty of space, I didn't feel like the restaurant had maximised the number of covers possible which led to a nicer atmosphere. We ordered starters and mains. Whilst there were meat and plant based options available, a really good choice of both, we opted for seafood. All of our dishes were cooked to perfection and presented to the same standard. I opted for the monkfish yellow thai curry, which was described as being medium to hot. However, I found it mild and would have welcomed additional chilli which I am sure would have been accommodated. That is a matter of personal taste though. We were served by two waiting on staff, both of whom gave flawless service. It was also nice to sit close to the kitchen and hear the professional interaction between both areas of the restaurant. This is one of the best restaurants that I have eaten in and I would be pleased to return....so much so that I have made another reservation.

Sis and I decided to choose here for my, aged ;), birthday lunch in the hope we’d be able to select lobster. We’d guessed that the bad weather during the previous few days might kill that idea and we were right. But I hope that the local fishermen were safe and coped ok and it was good to see that ‘fresh’ was paramount to the restaurant. The restaurant was immaculate, seating very comfortable, friendly staff and it was warm on a chilly February day. Our doggy was welcomed, three of them on the next table belonging to a lovely family who were also sharing a birthday. We decided to share scallops plus calamari starters. Very tasty but lacking spoons, so we weren’t able to eat every morsel of bisque. Our fault for not asking :) Mains. Potted mixed fish starter for sisnab, blackened sea bream with smoked mackerel fish cake for me. Huge portion for me to work through, (destroyed my never tasted fear of sea bream), so I shared it with her. We also had a couple of cocktails and a bottle of sparkling water. Bill came to just under £100. Apparently, their menu changes twice a year. Web menu matched that in the restaurant except the restaurant also offered a lunch menu. I’ve only one minor complaint. The menu is confusing and needs more punctuation on several items. For example, ‘the lobster pot’, menu item. Sisnab expected a plate with several distinct items. This should have been sub-described as a potted fish dish. It was similar with other options. Please add a full stop after the main dish listing. If I were rich I’d go daily. Thank you ;)

We come to Abersoch several times each year and The Potted Lobster is always our favourite place to eat and drink! The service is 10/10 the food is incredible and the drinks are great! Dogs are welcome outside on the patio and there are also dog friendly tables inside although I have not tried these yet myself! The staff are very friendly and the frozen aperol spritz is a must!

A friend and I visited the Potted Lobster while in Abersoch for the weekend. Lovely interior and a very warm welcome. We both opted for the arancini to start and beef spare rib for main. Both courses were amazing. The beef, in particular - it melted in the mouth! Service was incredibly friendly throughout. As others have said, it's quite pricey, but you've got to treat yourself sometimes!!

Had a family meal here on Saturday lunch time, a large group of us with young children and they were really friendly and accommodating. Fantastic customer service and really great food too! The monkfish curry was particularly delicious! Everyone enjoyed this special meal, thank you!

High quality food and great service. Not cheap but quality never is.

Food was absolutely delicious. I had the scallops and the lamb and you could tell that they were really fresh and good quality. It was a bit overpriced but worth it for a treat. The staff were really nice too (shout out to the waitress who wrapped up our scraps to take home to our dogs).

Fabulous decor, ambience, people and food to match. We were a party of 5 ladies on a weekend away. Every meal was great as were the starters. It’s a little bit expensive but you get what you pay for. Definitely coming back and would recommend but you need to book!

Great service, attentive staff. I am a coeliac and I felt assured that the food would be Gluten Free, indeed it was perfect . The environment is so nice, we had the dog with us, who was also welcomed. Highly recommend

Had a really lovely evening. Been in a few times for drinks and were looking forward to our first meal. We were not disappointed. The short rib beef was delicious and both the dessert and cheese plates were excellent. Probably the nicest cheese selection I’ve ever had. The only comment I’d make is, we are not really big appetites but, I could’ve eaten a bit more on the main course, or maybe it was just so good i’m being a greedy guts! The service was attentive by a lovely young waitress who was chatty and helpful. (Didn’t get her name but she has gorgeous curly hair) is over our usual price range but I have to say it was worth it. Honestly, the best Moules I've had, brilliant choice of cocktails. Again, whiskey sour out this world. Oysters to start. Seafood linguine with half lobster. Moules + frites Also, choice of espresso martini's out this world. I would 100% recommend coming here. Great staff, local produce, food presented beautifully, brilliant chef and a brilliant mixologist

We had lunch after a beach walk with our two dogs and were thoroughly spoilt with great food, great service and we left feeling completely satisfied. The taco starter was to die for and the seafood linguini was fabulous. It's a gem of a place with great decor and lovelly people. We can't recommend highly enough.

This place was incredible! The service was fantastic and the food was better. Definitely make a booking, but this was the BEST food we found on our trip. Very friendly and professional staff, got a great wine recommendation from our waiter, and a lovely little set up. I would drive all the way back just for the food, it was absolutely delicious. We ended up having a 3 course meal and it's expensive but I highly recommend trying it.

The food is very average… my hubby had fish and chips and the fish was fresh but nothing special , our local corner chippy serves up a better fish and chips. I had the potted lobster and it was dry and tasteless , I was really expecting something spectacular. I ordered the plaice and it was lovely… Beautiful restaurant but I think the standards are very average.

Amazing from the moment we walked in till the very end! Here for our anniversary. Dog friendly so we took our pup with us too. The staff were fabulous helped me decide what main to go for as we was stuck between choices (they all looked/sounded good). All staff and visitors stopped to talk to our dog so she was loving it too! Must visit when visiting Abersoch

After reading the reviews felt a little disappointed after our visit. Went for the seafood platter to share. Lobster was small and meat in the claws had shrunk considerably possibly due to long holding time. The dressed crab was good. The tempura king prawns were like rubber and translucent, typical when processed and frozen then thawed multiple times. Calamari was so so, again cooked from frozen. Staff friendly and plenty of them but not attentive, seems drying the cutlery was the main priority. Setting was very nice and I guess that is a lot of what you are paying for.

Outdoor seating area lovely, bright airy and dog friendly. I visited here with three friends. Two of us had a Caesar salad with shrimp, it was a very small portion and the salad had gone soggy and it was way to rich in taste. I highly recommend a visit. From the service to the food, it was all exceptional. We had the platter for 2 and it was gorgeous and value for money for what you got. There were no oysters, but that was fine with us as we were going to say we didn't like them and ask for them to be removed.
