Quality food, and pleasant staff best in town!

One of the best fish and chips I've had in a while. I'll defiantly be going back. Crispy batter and good portion of fish and chips.

Best chippy in the area bar none.

Specifically visited Allports due to the high ratings. Unfortunately, our experience did not meet expectations. Nearly £30 for 2 x fish and chip meals, 1 x children’s chicken nugget meal and 1 piece of southern fried chicken. We waited nearly 35 minutes to order and receive our meals. Before being given our meals we were asked to wait outside due to the shop being so busy. The staff continuously complained about how busy they were and managed the situation poorly. We were eventually served, we walked 10 minutes to find somewhere to sit and eat the food, only to find it had no salt and vinegar on (which makes a chippy!). Had we not been asked to wait outside, we could have been asked whether we wanted it, instead of assuming we didn’t. The fish was quite nice but it was incredibly oily and there was very little fish in the batter for a £10 fish and chip meal. Overall, a disappointment and we were left wishing we hadn’t bothered.

Had a fab well needed fish and chips...large portions

We’ve just had haddock, scampi and chips - excellent, thin crispy batter and non-greasy chips cooked perfectly. Well done!

We commenced our winter holiday break with Friday night Fish and Chips. We both had Haddock which was excellent. The place is well patronised by locals and that is always a good sign. This is, as far as we are concerned the best chip shop in Porthmadog.

@Laila 2016 biggest bunch of nonsense I’ve ever read. Come from London and every time we come to Porthmadog we get a fish and chips here. Grow up!

Outstanding. Fish was beautiful, chips were great. Prices are incredibly reasonable. Finished off a wonderful holiday with a happy smile.

Fish and chips with curry sauce , ordered a regular fish and chips the fish was large enough filled us up. It was all tasty and second time we’ve been will definitely be back .

Unfortunately it was very bad.The food was very oily and even though we paid for a large portion,the portion was very small and the fish was over cooked,the chips were hard as if they had been reheated. We bought takeaway in the summer from this shop which we did not rate it good.This time we thought we would give it another go but never again and we will definitely not be recommending it to anyone.a total rip off.

Best fish & chips in North Wales.

Little gem of a fish and chip shop. We opted for the meal deal of small fish, chips and mushy peas for our lunch. It was freshly cooked to order. Perfectly cooked and non greasy. The best fish and chips I've ever had.

We were in Porthmadog yesterday & we got fish & chips from here and they were cooked to order so piping hot & fresh. Chips were delicious & fish was fresh and batter was crisp. The best we’ve had in Wales so far! Will go again while we’re here on holiday as we were very impressed with them.

I paid £11.25 for 2x small chips 1x large sausage 1x barm cake 2x cans and chicken drum sick @ £1.50 and chips were not good

Incredibly slow service it’s painful to watch the workers they’re that slow both young teens on the till. There isn’t a welcoming feel to the shop at all food is average.

Absolutely amazing food from here, I'm not sure if it's because I was so hungry, but this is one of the best chipshop dinners I've ever had, absolutely can't fault the food or the service, a bit away from the highstreet but totally worth it.

2 x Fish & Chips, 1 x Scampi & Chips and a piece of chicken for the dog. This neighborhood chippy ticked our Fish & Chips for lunch box before going on the railway nearby. We were able to eat at picnic tables nearby and didn't get mobbed by gulls. Scampi can be really hit and miss. This place got full marks. Crisp on the outside, juicy on the inside, no undercook-liquid and the colour of scampi fries. Our chips were lovely, not soggy or greasy at all and everso slightly crispy round the edges. We got 3 slices of cake and 3 drinks the other day for about as much as we paid for this meal so I'd say pricing was bang on and pretty good value. Service was polite and friendly.

Really disappointed. Fish was tasteless and the chips were overdone and so greasy!! The staff were lovely, though!

Visited here for Lunch and can say that the food is very average (nothing special) ‘Large’ fish was questionable and for the price it costs you can definitely get better sizes of fish elsewhere, not really any flavour to the batter and just stuck to the sheet of paper in the food carton. Partner ordered the 3 piece chicken and chips which was alright, chips are nice and crispy will give them that- but really that’s all positive about the Food. Now the service, the lady on the till was alright not really welcoming however (after reading other reviews after) it is clear that if you are not a local or speak welsh you will served last, just felt abit weird and hostile. And to top it off they didn’t put the battered sausage we ordered in the bag :-(((

Found this nice little fish and chip shop purely by accident while looking for somewhere to park to get fish and chips off the main street. So glad I happened onto this one, lovely staff and great food.

Fantastic quality and good value for money. Would highly recommend. We are here on holiday and are used to a very high standard at home so we take some pleasing.

Havent been here since 2019, was very impressed with the restaurant. Menus good and prices are average. Kids loved the food, the staff was very nice and friendly.

OK, so we came to our Go-To chippy whilst on a day trip with the family. Myself, my mother, and two younger brothers. Now let me get this straight, about the poor reviews on here, firstly with regards to the girls working at allports being unwelcoming or rude. We have used allports many times, and have never once felt unwelcomed by the girls working there. Nor have they ever been rude to myself or my mother whilst ordering food. I suggest that these people who think this about the staff there , remember one thing, that politeness works two ways, so maybe try to be a bit more thoughtful in the future. Try to instigate a conversation with the staff and hey guess what? They WILL talk to you no problem. And secondly the moaners on here saying the fish is tiny or chips are small and greasy etc. I have never EVER had greasy food from the chip shop. The chips we had when I visited last were superb, lovely tasting and guess what??? No grease. The food was superb on my last visit, and the ladies were a pleasure to talk too. A tip, try the homemade chicken curry, it's gorgeous. Allports Porthmadog is the finest chip shop north of the river dyfi.

Nice chippy in a decent part of town, fish and chips were excellent, chicken nuggets also nice. Not much seating whilst waiting for food, and was a long wait to get our food.

Was told fish would take 3mins fine with that. Got back to my car to find chips were cold soaked in grease. Old chips usually I ask are chips fresh but reading reviews didn’t think I’d need to . The only chips that weren’t cold were the ones the fish was touching. Fish was lovely. Chips were disgusting.

Absolute Gem of a chip shop!,we found this on our way to Black rock sands & can honestly say it’s probably the best we’ve found on our Uk coastline tour. Perfectly crisp chips ( not greasy) & the steak & kidney pie was delicious! Keep up the great quality Allports! 😋👌🏻😎we will definitely be back

Couldn’t find anywhere to eat on a Sunday evening on holiday so off to our ‘go to’ fish and chip shop in Porthmadog. Lovely fish and chips as usual and so lovely to be able to rely on them when on holiday. Car park nearby to sit in car but mind the seagulls as they will attack whilst trying to get to the rubbish bin!

We visited the chip shop on the high street and it was closed on Wednesdays, so checked the map and walked the short distance here. It has a 5 star hygiene rating but looked a little dirty. The three woman working there were in no real rush to take our order and just left us hanging around. They defo had the vibe of Royston Vasey. Ordered two fish meals, both with gravy. Looking at the other comments I think we were lucky as our food was not too bad, the gravy was really nice.

Very overpriced food. Warmed up chips and no choice in pie as they wanted to sell me the 1 in the cabinet that had been there ages as it was rock hard and dry . Very poor meal for £8+

Great little chippy hidden away

Leaving aside that some of the order was missing the fish was difficult to find inside the greasy batter (large was at the very least an exaggeration), the chicken was incredibly dry, anyone who has said on these reviews that it’s the best they have ever had have clearly been nowhere else, although the plethora of flies were probably happy.

Just eaten the best fish and chips in a long time. These are superb £9.95 for fish chips curry sauce and a can brilliant.

Food was banging - as a local in north Wales I always loved them. But this one in port felt like I was being served by Wednesday Adams 😕... "Hi you ok" she stairs back at me completely mute.... If looks could kill i probably wouldn't be writing this now 🤣. Come on girls a little smile a friendly hello surely can't hurt .. if you are not happy in customer facing role ....try something new 👍

Probably the best fish and chip shop in Wales. It was very busy with a queue out the door but they had a great system for taking orders and serving. The haddock was fantastic. I will definitely be back. I highly recommend this chippy.

Hadn't been here for some years, but we came for a trip from machynlleth and fancied a chippy lunch. The food was outstanding. My mother said her scampi and chips were cooked to perfection and the meal was delicious. I myself had the fried chicken breast portions. Wow!. Best thing I've tasted for a long time. The chicken was moist and cooked to perfection, and the skin, covered in its southern fried coating was awesome. The shop itself was clean, and the lovely ladies serving were delightful and very welcoming. This is quite frankly the best chip shop in North Wales.

Why risk your fish and chip treat on places you don't know. When you can't beat their freshly cooked cod and pukka chips. Great cooking and friendly service.

Ordered large fish and chips and received half what I normally got and had to pay twice much. Well overpriced for what you got. But that's not all, chips very definitely old, fish definitely from frozen and swimming in oil. Never ordering here again

The food is bad, the chips have a strange taste and orders always come back incorrectly. The staff are rude and inconsiderate and don't seem to care much about their job. Not only this, but the place is small yet dirty and no hygeine procedures such as clean hands and tied back hair are followed. The final blow is the price! Extremely expensive for what it is. Im a local and do not recommend at all!

This is not a good place to buy fish and chips from,my wife ordered haddock it was £7.50 it was the size of a fish finger and driping in oil , the chips were cold ,small, the only good thing hence the 2 stars was...

We've been going to Allports every Friday and always pick up the meal deal. This week, it's shrunk by half , the chips were warm ups and the 'fish' ( don't know what it was) was like a battered sardine! You have lost 2 loyal customers

The food its self is allright, it would live up to its standards if the staff knew what they were doing. I have received the wrong order many times here and the staff being snarky and rude when returning it, they never listen or ask if you want salt or vinegar or say thank you and your welcome, there is only 1 nice staff member there.

Had fish&chips from here not much fish terrible ,and I ordered large fish&chips look like I got medium chip were ok , Very disappointed about the fish ,at my local you can get to see big fish in there big white ,not be visiting that shop again .

Very disappointed, "Allports" a chip shop for locals only. The second I entered the premises I could feel an atmosphere, having stood in front of the counter for what felt like forever with the guy just looking at us, we awkwardly placed our order, all the time wondering what they could be talking about in an other language, "your fish will have to come in a separate box" I was informed, wierd. Ime thinking this must be a big fish, on getting back to the car we opened our boxes and was very disappointed, the Cod which I had to have as there wasn't any Haddock was so small ime pretty sure was undersize and undercooked was sitting in a pool of oil. Service and product 1 out 1 of 10.

Shocking customer service and awfully cooked food. Stood there for 10 minutes before another customer told me she had already had her order taken. Placed my order large fish and chips with gravy and two children meals sausage & chips. Fish was placed in a separate box to my chips , me thinking wow fish is a good size errr no it’s so it can float in it’s oil still! Chips were over cooked or was refried due to the difference in colour of the chips. Will never return to this establishment.

Really lovely fish and chips! Only ever get cod, chips, peas,gravy and sausage so limited menu experience. Staff are really friendly and seem to be making more of an effort in recent months which is appreciated! And because they've stayed away from frozen fish, choosing to keep frying fresh they have the best fish around this area. In all honesty, it is quite expensive but so is everything at the moment I guess. On my last visit I was pleasantly surprised that because I mentioned they'd missed an item on my previous visit, the manager, without qualm fulfilled that missing item! Great service! Well done ladies!

Ordered here yesterday after shopping, Excellent food. We had 2 chicken meal deals with curry sauce and a gravy. It was the best takeaway we've had for a long time. Will be back soon

Been into the Porthmadog branch twice in two weeks on both occasions the food was poor the first week the chips were overcooked and dry the second week the portion of chips dry and was so small there was hardly anything in the small box which also contained a fish cake which was ok and an overcook jumbo sausage which was bordering on burnt definitely not value for money and definitely no way to treat the locals who keep your business going out of season customer service wasn't great either staff on both occasions looked like they had just come from a funeral Consistently poor

My husband not long gone in , end of night omg fish absolutely amazing battery so crispy , chips amazing , thank you , take that back been back again sept 2022 , paid £23 , fish was dripping in fat and was like tail ends , so disappointed.!!!! !!

We only ate here once when the other Fish&Chips dinner in town was closed, so it might be an isolated experience. There was a really long queue (between 30-45 mins). In addition, the staff asked that only one person per order should be inside. Coupled with the waiting time this demand makes it difficult for the person who remains to remember everybody order and a lonely experience for them. In addition, probably because there was not enough staff and there was a lot of pressure on them, they registered small portions instead of large, so we ended up with something slightly different than what we intended. Otherwise, the food was nice and we enjoyed it.

It’s not the first time we’ve had bad fish from this place but will be the last. I’m all for giving another try but the fish this time was just batter that was rock hard and not edible. We decided to go here as there were no queues and the creel along the road were queuing out along the road.. now I know why! We’ve been here now about 4 times and never had fish that we’ve actually finished. But no more for us! £20 to feed the seagulls.

The fish was okay, didn’t find any salt & vinegars on the chips though. Mysteriously, the two portions of fish came in very different sizes. The burgers were a joke: dry buns & burger patties - no lettuce, no sauce. Basically a meatball in a bread roll.

The fish is too small for 8 quid. Didn't answer the phone so had to queue.

Well what can I say, the food was good, I was walking my small dog and fancied some lunch, don’t cross the threshold with your dog though, thankfully the lady that didn’t tell me off brought my meal to the door, and I settled up with her outside. I’m sure it’s extremely popular!
