Lovely, welcoming staff who were so helpful when I turned up in the pouring rain with my toddler in a pushchair. (We were soaking wet!) The food was so fresh and tasty and the portions were generous. Our go-to chip shop in Barmouth from now on!

Average at best. Cod was ok and chips just tasted like there were cooked in old oil. Wouldn't go there again.

The haddock and chips were top notch. Recommended!

Went here based on reviews and was very disappointed, got haddock and chips twice, one was like a kids portion. The fish on both was very thin and consequently was dry and over cooked around edges. Chips were dripping in fat. Overall some of the worst fish and chips I've ever had.

Stopped in Barmouth on our way through, nice sunny "spring" day, popped into Dolphin fish bar to pick up some dinner. Had the cod & chips. Was very good. Service was great & nice and friendly. Would recommend. .

To start, Staff very pleasant....if I could give the young lady serving 6 stars from 5, I would. She works extremely well ( on her own)... Food , large cod, curry sauce....I'm afraid , although not horrendous...size wise poor and thin? It was very average. Nothing special.

Came for a takeaway today, 2 x cod and chips , 2 x jumbo sausage and chips and they were lovely, generous portions, the batter on the fish was nice and light and the chips very good too, service was also good the young lady was very pleasant .

Absolutely loved their Fish & Chips. Very friendly. The large is huge portion & the fish is a nice size too. Can't completely finish it in one go. They do really nice chocolate Milkshakes with the trimmings. Not too long of a queue as it's the other side of the town, the less busy side. But still very close to the beach. Easy access just across from Coop free carpark. Sorry no photos, I eat it before I could get a photo of it:)

Hubby and I usually go to the Carousel near to Barmouth town centre but were fed up of the miserable staff and the food has gone downhill. Tried The Dolphin and we'll definitely go back again. The chips, fish, fish cake and curry was scrumptious. Definitely going back!

Great takeaway, we had 3 cod and chips and 1 child's fish and chips. Food was absolutely beautiful, and was cooked to order. Would 100% recommend. Also the curry sauce was yummy 😋

There is a strange, rather unpleasant smell in this place which is very off putting when you're ordering food. The food is quite nice but the place needs to smell more fresh.

Friendly service. There was a group of us who sat in for food. All of our food was great and thoroughly enjoyed. The chips were so tasty and I liked that the food was not greasy.

We had a large plate of chips here with the kids, mainly to get out of the rain and use the facilities. Unfortunately they were probably the worst chips we've ever eaten from a chippy, they were lukewarm and very much like cardboard.

Standard fish and chip fare, nice chips and lovely cod. Generous portions and fair prices. Eat in and Takeaway. Great location with lots of benches opposite to sit and eat your takeaway. There wasn't a queue when we arrived, but was one when we left.

Went on Sunday afternoon 6/8/23 , very quick & friendly service ordered haddock & chips & piece of cod had to wait 5 mins which staff did inform , not a problem while fish was cooked from fresh & well worth the small wait it was , I've eaten alot of fish & chips on my travels around the world in my lifetime my first time in Barmouth which I loved , but got to be in my top 5 at least absolutely beautiful keep it up guys well done 👏.

The dolphin is just as good as the mermaid but without the crazy queues! Lovely fish n chips. We took our meal out but you can sit in. The dolphin is on a main road & you need to be careful of the traffic going past if you're waiting outside for your food as we were. Parking in the co-op & walking to the dolphin is probably the best option as there's nowhere to park outside. Very reasonable price & good service. We'll be back next time we visit 🙂

Very nice place to get food, we've eaten in and out of the shop and had equally nice food. The eating in area was nice and clean and the staff were very accommodating to a group of us moving a few tables for a bigger group. We all said how nice the food was from our varying orders. Will be going again.

Tasty meals We had haddock, steak pie and fish cakes , gravy, peas -all good A bit slow to open but we waited and it was worth the wait Stairs to the toilet are very steep so this could be a problem for some

We had some beautiful food here, in fact we went two days on the trot. The fish was very nice and cooked fresh, The chips were nice too. Staff were friendly and nothing was to much trouble. The tables were full each time we visited.

We have been coming to The Dolphin for many years, love the staff and the fact the fish is cooked fresh. 😊 BUT the last few times as previous reviews have said the chips are skinny, greasy, hard and inedible. ☹️ We stopped going, but recently were told the fat chips were back!! We went again and sadly still skinny, horrible chips. Won't return again unless chippy chips are back.

This chippy is banging I literally don't understand the bad reviews. The chips are thin for chippy chips but they're really soft and tasty, if you want dry chips then this isn't the chippy for you but if you want good old fashioned soggy chippy chips then this place is brill. The fish and peas were beautiful!

Just had £20 meal from this chip shop for two people, sorry to say the chips were awful, all in bits and rock hard. Not sure if they are frozen like French fries or just left over from lunchtime. The oil they are cooked in also had a strange taste to it, so all in all not a meal we enjoyed or can recommend.

Do not waste your money !! Ordered chips and gravy cost £4.30 gravy was like water and chips wasn’t proper chips all skinny little bits poss frozen chips all of it was binned

Unfortunately the chips were quite dry and very brittle. The pie was good though and i also had chilli and cheese on the chips. Good job too, as the chips were poor. The staff were pleasant and the service was speedy. The prices were reasonable.

Went in today and the chips were disgusting just bits NOT chips the fish was ok but I would recommend NOT getting chips here , Never again

The best fish and chips we've ever had by the seaside. Quite a queue outside the shop and had to wait a while to get in and be served but the food was worth the wait. Perfectly cooked large cod fillet and the same for the chips. No soggy bits or overcooked bits, just perfect throughout. Reasonable prices too given prices have increased for everyone. Would definitely visit again if returning to Barmouth.

Just awful, We only ordered two bags of chips but they went in the bin. Just bits that most chip shops would throw away and the taste terrible because the oil was so dirty.

Sorry mate, chips are unhealthy, thin chips are extremely unhealthy, please bring back the fat chips!!

Chips are so oily and small cut.Not sure how you can get it so wrong.Even my teenage child left his and said chips tasted weird and he eats like a bill.

Oh dear !!! Was looking forward to fish & chip takeaway overlooking Barmouth Beach. Sadly felt let down by our chippy supper. Chips were small, more like french fries & very oily. Fish also oily with a very thin coating of batter. All in all not very much impressed with what we received.

We’ve regularly visited this chippy, during the last few years and it’s been our favourite, but what has happened to it this year? The chips are awful, lots of hard small bits in the bottom of the tray and cut like French fries. If I wanted fries I would go to McDonalds!

Good fish and chips. Speedy serve de and much less of a queue than the one by the sea. Only thing was that they added A LOT of salt so may be worth saying no salt!

Traditional eat in or takeaway chippy, but with some less traditional specials. I was tempted by faggots and chips but went for haddock in the end. Fantastic! The chips were lovely, but the fish was outstanding. Meaty, succulent and so fresh and the batter crispy and not too thick. Friendly staff. Just a great experience.

Visiting area for weekend, walked to town to pick up some tea for me and my partner and two dogs. Got me cod and chips, chips and fish cakes for dogs. Had chat with owner who was very pleasant. Food was nice and price also was good there. Would recommend this chip shop. Also cooked in veg oil.

It's important to say we all had upset stomachs after our visit to this establishment yesterday, very poor food, very sticky tables, damp grotty salt pots. And expensive too. My advice to you is sell up and let somebody take over that knows what they are doing. (horrendous)

Haven't been in here for ages and after the refurbishment of the shop we thought we would give it a go. Never Again ! The fish was ok, the chips weren't hot and the peas were absolutely revolting. So it looks like the Mermaid is...

After experiencing the long queues at the Mermaid, we thought we'd try The Dolphin for our fish and chips family dinner, and so glad we did! No queue, Fish cooked to order, good chips and prices slightly cheaper than the Mermaid, all accompanied with friendly and great service. We would definitely go here again.

Had fab fish and chips/sausage and chips from here yesterday. The food was cooked fresh, the fish was really good, the quality and taste was way above our local chippy. Nice and friendly staff. The price was very reasonable too. Can highly recommend this place.

Such amazing fish and chips! It was fresh and not greasy at all. We had it with mushy peas and curry sauce and would happily have gone back every day!

This fish shop has fab food. Staff are lovely. Nothings too much trouble, if it's not cooked they will cook it as you wait!! A range of different foods but a lush fish n chips too!! Hi had lunch in this place beginning of July, though it was only right to give a review, the fish chip peas, gravy and a cup of tea was fantastic, and not over priced the young lad who took the order and served it was extremely pleasant, next time I'm in Barmouth I will definitely visit again. 5 star.

I was in town and thought I'll try this fish and chip shop, for the money great, but the chips were clumped together, the box they came in was flimsy and the chips tasted like fish even though I only had chips, and curry sauce. It tasted like they never changed the oil which is bad considering some people may have allergies. I felt ill later that day. Will not use again...
