A real hidden gem! We stumbled across the ice cream parlour online and thought we would try it on a Sunday afternoon. The ice cream was absolutely amazing, and with a great choice of flavours too. The guy serving us was really helpful, and gave great recommendation for choice of flavour. There is a really nice seating area outside too which we really enjoyed. We will be back!!

After a big walk along the river, this cafe was recommended to us. We were pleased to find it was dog friendly with seating inside and outside. Nicely decorated inside, we received a friendly welcome and a menu. We chose paninis, tea and cake. Freshly prepared it was lovely and well presented. We had two pots of tea and were not rushed. It was very enjoyable. We noticed the staff taking care with all their customers with a smile. Thank you.

We had a sandwich and tea which was very nice. As we were eating a gentleman came in and asked were dogs allowed (he had two) and was told yes. Bearing in mind my husband has a dog allergy there was nothing to say dogs were allowed so it was not ideal for us as the place isn’t that big. Food was lovely but sadly we won’t be back.

With glorious Cumbrian weather, we went to the new small ice cream parlour addition at the rear of the cafe. We had 3 ice creams, Tenon farm strawberry and cream, the house dairy free chocolate chip and a doggy ice cream for Peggy. Every one of us enjoyed the lovely sunny quaint private seating as well as the delicious ice creams. Served by lovely, enthusiastic helpful staff this is a great addition to this little cafe. We will definitely go back there again.

Fabulous little cafe at the Post Office just off the village green. We'd been trying to pop in for ages and finally the day fell right (We had manged to order hot paninis for collection once in the distant past, they were delicious). What a wonderful choice of hot drinks and treats, both sweet and savoury. We opted for regular and Earl Grey tea with plain and blueberry with lemon drizzle scones. We will try hard to visit again for a meal, to get the full experience. The staff were brilliant and helpful. Table service and takeaway available. Very friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Lots of chatter and a birthday celebration. There's a proper community feel here. I would recommend popping in just for a cuppa and a chat. Toilet facilities for customers including baby changing. There's a slop to the facilities, but please be mindful that there is an odd step to negotiate.

My wife and myself are holidaying in the Lake staying at the Crown Hotel in Wetheral and shortly after our arrival we were given a lunch recommendation at the nearby Posting Pot - which is half cafe/restaurant and general store/Post Office. We were warmly welcomed by a very nice lady (Elaine or Liz?) - who also gave us some directions for a walk along the River Eden - and we were soon enjoying the Soup of the Day (Broccoli) which was served with crutons and some lovely granary bread. It was so delicious that we returned to the Posting Pot after our walk for Tea for Two accompanied by a generous slice of home made local fruit cake. I suspect these won’t be our only visits to the Posting Pot!!

We have had some great experiences of village shops with cafes recently - and this is a good example. We were looking for somewhere for a break - lunch and a walk - while travelling back from Scotland, and this lovely village with its special cafe, post office and shop combination absolutely fitted the criteria. We were able to get a park right outside - but there is never going to be a problem getting a park somewhere close by. There are lots of outdoor tables but at the time we arrived, it was damp outdoors and everyone had headed inside. We were able to get one of the tables in the big bay shopfront window and to enjoy both the outlook and the natural light. Friendly service and fresh sandwiches with a cafetière of coffee - so good that after our walk, we returned for scones and more hot drinks. There is a toilet at the rear, an attractive village green opposite, some lovely walks that you can set out from here, and you are just up the hill from the equally attractive railway station. A pleasant cafe in a pleasant village.

I visited the Posting Pot with my two daughters. We have been before and found it a nice place to go for lunch. It wasn’t busy and we quickly decided what we all wanted. Then we sat for over 5 minutes being ignored by the waitress. It wasn’t until I got up and went to the counter (in 3 steps - we were that close), that she took our order. One daughter wanted soup - ‘can she have it with white bread please?’, answer ‘no, it only comes with brown’. Ok, so I ordered it with brown. I also ordered two sandwiches - one with Brie on brown and one plain cheese on white, 2 hot chocs and a tea. The hot chocs arrived, but no tea. I waited several minutes - the waitress could see I was tea-less but continued ignoring us and wiping the counter. I reminded her I was still waiting for my tea. She rolled her eyes, prepared the tea and then literally slammed it on the table, no apology. The food then arrived - a little mediocre for the price but that’s ok. My daughter had salad in her sandwich - I took it to the counter. ‘I asked for plain cheese’, ‘no you didn’t’, ‘er, I’m sorry but I did’. Plate snatched away and again, slammed back down with the salad removed, bits of grated cheese all over the plate where clearly it had been hastily removed. We then ate our lunch in silence while she stood 2 meters away, glowering, making us feel uncomfortable. I paid and we left, clearly not welcome back. No pleasantries, nothing. Perhaps she was having a bad day - whatever, we won’t be going back.

Lovely stopping off point after a long walk. First class food- both the evening meal and the breakfast. Lots of little extra touches that made the stay perfect including a place to leave soggy boots to dry off so they were nice and toastie the next morning. Welcoming host who made this solo female walker feel safe and welcome. Highly recommended.

The service really marred the whole experience. My husband and I were gifted an afternoon tea for our anniversary. When we arrived, we were greeted at the front door by a lady who I can only describe as a 'bouncer' of sorts - she stood in front of us, making it clear we were not to venture any further into the building until we had proven we had a booking... I was also rather strangely escorted to the lavatory, rather then simply given directions ("to your left at the end of the corridor" seems rather easy to remember...). Perhaps I look like the type to get easily lost? I got a glass of fizz as a treat (we were celebrating after all!) but I never did get my pot of tea. I'd have brought it up, but we never saw the staff again. No one checked if everything was OK or if we needed anything else. We had to go looking for someone in order to pay the bill (for the glass of fizz). No one offered to take my coat, although I know other people in the room were awarded that level of service. I shared my husband's pot of tea - my tea cup was cracked and leaked - again, I'd have brought it up if a single member of staff had approached us. And there were plenty of staff about - we could hear them laughing and joking and chatting, outside of the dining room in the corridor. The scones and homemade jam were delicious. There was a bit too much chocolate in the fruit tarts for my liking, making them a little sickly. The pistachio cake was slightly dry. The cheese and pickle sandwiches were a tad disappointing, but the egg ones were very tasty. The dining room itself lacked any atmosphere. Beautiful surrounding area. Close enough to major roads. We love to dine out frequently - anywhere and everywhere! However, we won't be returning here. Nor will we be recommending to anyone else.

Visited half a dozen times in the last year. The owners know how to run a village pub/restaurant. Tastefully quirky interior design. Excellent but down to earth wine menu. Top quality cask ales. Dog friendly. Very convivial atmosphere and a range of seasonal events. But top of the shop s the quality of the food. Last night we had the best cheese soufflé ever. Then the tastiest lamb, perfectly cooked. It melted with tenderness and a happy organic rearing. The steak was sublime. We’ve covered many signature dishes in recent months and always come away delighted. Prices are reasonable for the quality delivered. Well done to the whole team. A must visit.
