Have been twice now and both times have been wonderful. Food is lovely and very creative. I think the value for money is crazy - would be at least twice the price in London. Staff are lovely and very friendly too! Would highly recommend!

We loved the place from the moment we set foot inside. The service was outstanding; attentive but not intrusive, professional yet friendly. The dishes were small bombs of flavour and surprises ( good ones). I can’t wait to return for their next menu.

Mixed bag. Excellent atmosphere and staff attentive and informative. Food superbly presented and some excellent courses, however not all courses were to my liking ( personal taste)For that reason wont go back until they change the menu Thought we had ordered the larger and the smaller menu however served 2 smaller menu's. After meal coffee and tea not the best. Tea weak and only luke warm.

Fantastic quality food and we didn't have to wait long at all between meals. We never felt rushed, staff were polite, well spoken and down to earth. The atmosphere was chilled and relaxing. Perhaps the most relaxed restaurant environment I've ever been to as I don't like busy, loud environments, so this was just right for me as the size of this place is perfect. The customer service was the best we have ever had so we left a generous tip. Well worth it

Utterly wonderful experience. Every course better than the last, everything was spot on even down to the timings of the dishes arriving - not too long but not rushed through. Staff wonderfully helpful, explained everything, how it all worked and how the flavours went together. Couldn't fault anything. Admittedly it is expensive, arguably very expensive but you get what you pay for and the quality can't be faulted.

I've had the pleasure of dining at several Michelin Starred restaurants and for the life of me I don't understand why this doesn't have one (yet!). The staff were amazing and informative, the restaurant was very tastefully decorated and a very pleasant atmosphere and finally the food was superb. We had the full tasting menu and it was excellent value, delicious food. Some interesting options, some more out there courses, which is the entire reason you go to somewhere like this! I very rarely dish out a 5 star rating but when somewhere is faultless what other option do you have??

What a terrific lunch we had at Lounge on the Green. No compromises at all, every one of the four courses was excellent. The service was welcoming & professional and the meal was good value for money. Can’t wait to return.

Having heard such wonderful things (and seen wonderful pictures) I must admit that I arrived slightly worried that it wouldn't be able to meet our expectations. Incredibly, the experience somehow surpassed them. Every course was simply stunning, and would have been the highlight of any other meal. I've been fortunate enough to eat in many acclaimed and accomplished restaurants, but none have produced a menu as thoroughly and consistently fantastic as this. The love, expertise and prowess of all involved is apparent in every component of every dish. And the service was attentive, friendly and rightly proud. To pinpoint any particular dish would be impossible, but I must point out that the turnip, ginger and pear concoction took ingredients I thought I could never enjoy and made them the star of the meal. Also the biscuit and blue cheese granita was perhaps the greatest thing I've ever tasted. Our pictures honestly do not do them justice. An absolute gem of a restaurant, whose acclaim and reputation however lofty and deserved still seems not enough.

Lounge on the Green is a real gem - the food is stunning, the service fantastic and cannot rate it highly enough. This is a must if you want to treat yourself or someone special. It is my go to restaurant for any special occasion. They're also fantastic at providing a vegetarian version of their tasting menu, which is just as good as the meat version!! And happy to accommodate non-red drinkers, when the wine pairing is selected, and provide them with a suitable white wine for the course.

Had the la’al dinner and each of the courses was outstanding. The service was exceptional and swift, with the waiting staff describing each of our courses in turn. Bonus was that the wine pairing on a Thursday is only £5 extra. We will be returning soon.

Went with friends in November time for the set menu and wine pairing. The food and service were both excellent and easily on a par with Michelin starred restaurants I have dined at. I'm sure that will follow as this place deserves it.

I took my wife, daughter and mother in law for a special treat on Mothering Sunday. Well what a fantastic time we had! This is a small unassuming restaurant that would not be misplaced if it was in central London rather than asleep village just outside Carlisle. It's an absolute gem. The food is well executed with precision and dexterity. We had five courses of sublime taste sensations; the beetroot dish being my favourite. The intensity and subtlety of flavours sets it apart from the mainstream. This is next level stuff! The service was efficient, warm and friendly. The atmosphere is relaxed and unpretentious. I cannot recommend this highly enough to customers or Michelin. This place is THAT good... wonderful!

We were back to 'Lounge on the Green' for their seven course dinner menu, this time with the additional wine flight. As previously the food was superb, served in a timely way so you never felt rushed or hanging around for the next course. Portions were sized just right so you were neither left hungry or over-stuffed. The wine flight was also well matched to the food as you would expect, and as my partner doesn't like red wine they replaced them with suitable whites without quibble. In particular the Hungarian Tokay Furmint and the Elysium Black Muscat were particularly memorable. Some may see the wine flight as an expensive option, however consider that the chef and sommelier are working together and combining their experience to ensure that you are getting something that compliments each course, and to make it an integral part of the experience. Each course comes with a different wine, so at the very worst you are getting the opportunity to sample a wide range of different wines and you may discover new favourites. If you enjoy the food, do try the wine flight.

Absolutely stunning food. Nothing like this in the area. Great skill and presentation. Might appear expensive but worth every penny if you appreciate fine dining. Lovely server too.

Can't knock the food and the hostess was really pleasant... But the atmosphere was non-existent, there were literally two other couples in the whole night, we spent most of the meal being the only people in there which ruined the experience for me. Id like to go back but as I'd like to experience the place at full capacity, but the thought of it being empty again is putting me off.

Excellent food, we have been many times and every time the menu has been beautifully curated and delicious. I can highly recommend the service from Rachel - who is very good at what she does, always on the ball and single handedly ran an evening in the restaurant all by herself and provided each table with great service even though she was on her own.

We have wanted to try here for a while. We love our tasting menus and when we found out because of Covid that is all they were serving qe booked. Lovely atmosphere restaurant was full with plenty of socially distant rules. Had an amazing meal with all courses excellent. Stand out was the shrimp, guinea fowl, and two of the best desserts we have ever eaten. Two good bottles of red and delicious cocktails. We will definitely be back. Keep up the good work guys.

Everything about this restaurant is amazing, the food is incredible and the service is amazing. Me and my partner visited while the lockdown restrictions were been lifted and in a small restaurant the social distancing was brilliant and we felt very safe.

Not quite worthy of Michelin star yet - but then it was a good deal cheaper than Michelin tasting menus too!! We enjoyed every course that we had and the main was a particular standout. Portions good sized, using local ingredients and nice variety. Lovely intimate venue and friendly service (they were short staffed but whilst it was noticeable they worked hard to make the evening a full success regardless). We had cocktails to start, then a nice Romanian Pinot Noir and a dessert wine to finish.... No wine flight available sadly - they should consider one as it would have gone nicely with the superb food. Very reasonable price for what we got. Would definitely return if we were back in the area!!

Amazing food! I was surprised to find only the Tasting Menu to choose from when I reserved lunch for two, but so enjoyed it. Admittedly, my friend found that there was too much food for her tiny appetite, but ate a little of every course! We were very well looked after by Rachel (Front of House) and our Chefs Harry and Zac, but we were the only diners - wow, why?!For any foodies out there, get yourselves booked in. The sourdough with beef butter was to die for and I almost asked for seconds but knew I'd not survive to eat all the courses to come. A special mention goes to the Celeriac crumb on top of our second course (I could have eaten a bowl full of that alone...) and the Duck main course (soooo tender and tasty) and the blood orange marshmallow which was part of the dessert - it would have sufficed but I did manage the lot! I can highly recommend!

North Cumbria has been desperate for a place like this. There are many who have tried but all have failed until now. At last a restaurant to brag about. The food is local, inventive and delicious. A touch more seasoning here and there is the only rather desperate criticism I can muster. Dry aged duck breast with foie gras, artichoke purée and little smoked turnip - I’m still smiling about it. Front of house was down to just one person but you would not have guessed. There was an underlying feeling that the staff enjoyed what they were doing and were proud of what they were presenting. It’s just a really nice experience.

Culinary experiences in Carlisle can often be much of a muchness. But not this one. Superb food that is delicious without being pretentious. Exceptional service, with Rachel the perfect example of what front of house should be. Could not recommend highly enough if you're local to the area, and you should make the visit if you're not. Lounge On The Green is a real gem.

We went for a birthday meal with my friend and his wife for both our birthdays. By far the best fine dining restaurant this side of Cumbria. Every course was spectacular, and the service immense. Special shout to Harry the trainee chef that serves is for the evening. Very confident and really knew his stuff explaining all the dishes to us. We have been to a few Michelin star restaurants and this is up there with the very best food we have eaten. Surely a star is coming soon!

We visited last night for the first time in ages. The restaurant has had a make over and looks really good.We enjoyed the new tasting menu tremendously, all courses beautifully presented, lovely flavours and overall a very satisfying meal.The service was also really good, the staff were knowledgeable and attentive. We have had a wonderful meal tonight at Lounge on the Green, probably the best food in the Carlisle area and proper fine dining, which you can’t really find anywhere else in Carlisle. Lounge on the green is set in a quiet village just outside of Carlisle. A picturesque setting. This location is ideal for any special occasion. Upon entering you have a sanitisation station which is perfectly discreet. When inside, the tables have been set perfectly for social distancing and no compromise has been taken away from keeping the ambience of the room. We were greeted by Rachel and were shown to our table. We ordered from the set taster menu number 2. I am personally not an adventurous eater and was open minded at the menu set. Every course that was given was thourally described along with how to enjoy eating the course to its fullest. I absolutely loved every course! We were well looked after and the attention to detail was second to none. This restaurant is setting the standards for Carlisle in fine dining in our opinions! We will definitely be back.

We took upon a visit based on some suggestions we'd had from friends about a new tasting menu - we were so pleased we did. We entered the restaurant and first noticed that there had been a full refurb and the layout had now changed - we have visited several times before. This created a very welcoming, spacious environment and looking around this was a busy night - the place was full but this did not detract from the mellow, chittering from tables.Our waitress was attentive, happy and very friendly. I was pleased to see them using face coverings as many other restaurants I've been in haven't. We opted for the eight course tasting menu over the five courses as there were so many dishes jumping out at me to try. Our first taste was some nibbles at the table - the full description lost to memory - a chicken liver parfait macaron and a manchego cheese puff. Beautifully presented and set my taste buds into freefall - all i wanted was more. We were treated to some sour dough and beef butter. There was a quick request put in for a second round of it.So only now the actual eight courses start - I feel spoilt already. The mackeral was a light, fresh and very delicate dish to start with, which then synced nicely with the pan-fried scallop dish. All the variety of textures took this dish to another level. I was very impressed with how the squid ink was used.Bringing some of the theatre to the meal was the next dish - the guinnea fowl, egg and black truffle. The sauce arrived in a guinnea fowl egg to be poured on ,which then split to reveal its contents. Great fun! All three dishes up to now felt very well balanced and measured in taste. Nothing was impacting the flavours of each dish which can happen in tasting menus - I've had a few.Next to arrive was again a fun dish - fish, chips and curry sauce! What! This would surely not be found in a restaurant? But it does and and wow my tongue was left tantalized wanting more. This dish for me made me sit up and really take notice of what was going on as the next plate - barbecue lakeland beef was on it's way. This dish for me was the stand out piece of the whole menu. It felt like a crescendo of flavours bring the whole meal to a build up.The final three desert dishes slowed the meal right down again and finished it off very nicely. I was suitably impressed by the introduction of 'beer bread' as an ingredient. The panna cotta was outstanding. A very welcome dish after the rich beef.This meal went above and beyond our expectations for this restaurant. They deserve to have their praises sung as their is clear careful planning behind not just every dish but the whole sequence of tastes for the customer. I've eaten a few tasting menus in my time - Castle Terrace, Djem, Maze, Savoy to name but a few. This is definitely putting itself into a category close by with maybe a leg in. You wouldn't expect this level of food from this non-pompous restaurant and at the price we paid I most certainly will be watching out for the next menu. Well done to all involved we had such a super evening.

Visited for our first post lockdown meal for a treat! Food was unreal! We both chose menu two and were absalutely stuffed by the time we left. Staff are amazing made to feel very welcome and comfortable by Harry and Rachel! Each dish was well explained and beautifully presented. Coulnt fault it and will definitely return soon!

Came here and had the tasting menu two, absolutely gorgeous food and drink! Atmosphere was lovely and the staff were very friendly. Felt very at ease with the procedures they had in place due to COVID-19 Will definitely be back soon!

First the positives; nice ambience, friendly and welcoming staff, easy to find if your not a local. COVID-19 security pretty good (one of our first outings since lockdown).The food however, was not as special as we might have expected. We’re not fine dining experts by any means but have experienced a number of restaurants offering high end tasting menus before and have always come away impressed. This time, however, none of it excelled, none of our party of five, on tasting any of the courses said “ooh isn’t that lovely”, nothing quite hit the spot. We chose the smaller tasting menu - £38 per head for seven courses - and a couple of bottles of Romanian Pinot Grigio. The beef course was perhaps the nicest but the Fish and Chips was, I felt, just bizarre and the others were, well, lacklustre. The wine was the most successful element of the meal which is disappointing when the food is supposed to be the star of the show.I don’t like giving negative reviews and do so on this occasion in the hope that the Chef has a rethink and ups his game a little. Good presentation alone isn’t sufficient- the food needs to hit the palate and impress. Sadly, it didn’t on Friday night.

My wife noticed the restaurant was offering a 5 course Festive Lunch Tasting Menu and thought it would be nice to try it on my day off. When we arrived we were warmly welcomed by Rachel who then gave us friendly and efficient service throughout the meal. And what a meal it was, every course was so full of flavour and a perfect size for lunch. The dessert of cherries and dark chocolate, the Chef's take on Black Forest Gateau, looked good and tasted great. See the attached photo. Our first visit but not our last.

Food was unreal, the staff treat you warm hearted as soon as you enter, best place ever been too as well as how clean the whole building is

This is a little hidden gem and thank God it's in our village, even if you just pop in for a drink you are made more than welcome by all the very caring staff.We booked Saturday 16th November and we both had the 9 course taster menu and they made special dishes for my other half because she does not eat meat. They really did excell and the food was again excellent and well worth the money. I cannot recommend this place enough and we are fussy eaters and we do like to be pampered and they certainly do that in this little gem of a place.Well done everyone and looking forward to New Years Eve.

5 star, James and the team are fantastic

We spent a Saturday evening with another couple at the Lounge on The Green. We were shown to the lounge area initially where we enjoyed canapés and drinks before selecting from the menu. We were then shown to our table and enjoyed another five courses, the highlight of which was a surprise course in the middle called Fish and Chips with curry sauce....wow! Superb fine dining experience with great service, lovely atmosphere and at a reasonable price. Highly recommend a visit, we certainly will be returning soon, thank you

I brought my mum for the evening tasting menu as an early Christmas present for her as I live away. Neither of us have been before. The booking system is a tad bizarre in that I booked on line but then was left a voicemail asking me to call in to confirm my reservation. If I have to do that, then I might as well just phone up to book anyway! There is no car park so we ended up leaving the car on the street. I'm not sure what the local villagers must think of this new addition to their street as by the time we left, there were rather a lot of cars clogging up a street not really set up for bumper to bumper parking. We were the first diners in that evening. We were seated in the waiting area and ordered drinks (wine and a mocktail). I had specified a couple of days before dining that I could not have alcohol. I am not allergic, so no concerns with anaphylaxis, but stated that I could not have any at all which they said they were fine with. We were shown the menu whilst waiting to be seated so we could see what we were eating. We were told that there was no lobster available so this had been replaced with langoustine. Canapes were served whilst we were sat in the waiting area, alongside our drinks. The fish canape was very nice, but the chicken skin one was not pleasant in taste nor texture. We were then shown to the table. We were given a four seater table, which was nice as you can often be crammed on to a small table for two. We were given a water jug on request as well, served in the cutest little bronze beakers.The sour dough brad was very nice. This was served with a beef butter which was also very nice. Like old beef dripping on bread. We were only given one slice of bread though and I would have liked a basket for the table, if I am honest, to enjoy at a time of my choosing throughout the meal. The chilled melon soup was not nice. It just tasted like mashed up, cold melon. And the langoustine on top was luke warm so the combo of cold melon and warm shellfish was quite unpleasant. The textures didn't work particularly well together either. The carpaccio was very nice and was very pretty to look at too. Nothing outstanding, but enjoyable. The fish dish was my favourite dish, I think. The sauce was delicious. I would have liked a slightly larger portion of actual food, as it was the sauce that made the dish look large, but very, very nice. The sauce was rich and creamy and complimented the fish beautifully. Superb. The celeriac mousse wasn't great. The scratchings were over done so unpleasantly crispy (felt like teeth had fallen out in my mouth) and the mousse was too big a portion for how sweet and rich it was. This could have been halved in size and been plenty. The chef brought this out to us and introduced the dish, but this wasn't the dish he should have brought to us. I would have liked to have seen him present one of the more hearty dishes to us, rather than a mid meal refresher. The gesture was appreciated though. The canon of lamb was the 'main' course. I would have liked to have had a bigger portion of this - probably double the size. The lamb was slightly tough, but not horrendously so. The potato press (mash) was delicious. The stand out on this dish was the gravy though (I'm not giving things pretentious names when 'gravy' will do!). It was rich, thick and fabulously meaty. I loved how they left a jug on the table for us to add extra to our plate with. Which I did. I could have eaten it as a soup!!The set yoghurt was very nice and a light dessert after the other rich dishes. Very, very nice. The cheese course was not to my taste. The cheese was too strong for me and I couldn't eat it. The fruit bread was nice though. The pear was nicely presented but unpleasant to taste. However....my pear was poached in alcohol. One bite and it was all I could taste and I had to stop eating. I was not happy that I had specifically stated not to serve me alcohol and yet I was given food containing alcohol. I will not go on about that on here, but needless to say if you have spoken to them regarding ingredients you can't eat then check again before eating. If I had a life threatening allergy then perhaps it would be taken with a higher degree of seriousness but it's worth you checking again before eating anything. My mocktail was delicious. My mum enjoyed her wine. But we finished the drinks probably midway through the meal (including our water) and we were not offered any more drinks. The food was explained to us as each plate was served and the waitress was smartly presented and friendly. The restaurant is small but nicely decorated and well laid out. Two big tables came in later in the night which made it quite loud, but not excessively so. There is music playing, which we found a bit too loud for a fine dining restaurant and the type of music wasn't great. The temperature in the restaurant was awful. It was SO cold that I wanted to put my big coat back on. Not great when you've dressed nicely for a meal out and sit shivering all night. The toilet is a tad odd as there is a sliding saloon type door directly across from an open kitchen and you feel quite exposed when using the bathroom. I felt like the entire kitchen could hear me pee!Price wise, I think they're about right. Certainly shoudn't be more expensive at the moment as the food quantity, quality and service don't merit it. But shouldn't be any cheaper as it's good food for Carlisle. I live in the East of England and there are restaurants like this on every corner. Lounge on the Green are trying hard to emulate more cosmopolitan areas for fine dining and taster menus. And they are very nearly there. But not quite. No check backs during meal. No drink replacements. One slice of bread then no offer of any more.Restaurant way too cold. SLIGHT style over substance.Toilet a bit odd. Waiting staff not quite at fine dining levels of training. Perhaps a short placement at another establishment to train them effectively?For Carlisle it is a FANTASTIC addition. But pick this up and put it in a bigger city, I'm not sure it would last as it wouldn't stand out from any of the other very similar places. If you're local and want a nice experience, then go for the taster menu here. But if you're from a bigger City then you're not going to have anything new you can't get any night of the week. It as a nice treat for my mum and something different. But not quite as special for me.

This restaurant tries to be top class and almost succeeds. The menu is interesting, and you can have either a 9 course tasting menu (I think I remember that correctly) or four or five. The four or five include canapés and also bread (one slice) - which is perhaps over-claiming. I found plenty on the menu to interest me. I did wonder about the canapés as they were not detailed on the menu; neither was a surprise 'in between' dish; it would be awkward for someone with food allergies, or who has to choose carefully for other reasons. In such a restaurant it would have been nice to see more French wines, including French wines by the glass.I felt the service was a bit formulaic and it would have been nice, for example, to have asked if more bread was desired. Everyone got one slice (very nice too) and that was it.In general the service was not quite professional. For example on arrival to a nearly empty restaurant we were shown to a small table cheek by jowl with the one other couple in there. It felt very uncomfortable and fortunately (?) it was also very cold there as it was next to the window, and so we were able to ask to move without seeming anti-social. The young waiter dropped some sauce when removing a dish; he wiped it off the table but not the floor, and I was itching to wipe it up for the next hour, but didn't want to embarrass him by doing so. Also, somebody could have slipped on it. We asked for another beer, which we were going to share, but both of our glasses were whipped away and only one new one brought. I guess it felt like there was nobody quite in charge.However, the service was well-meaning, and we would certainly eat there again. The prices seemed very reasonable for a restaurant of this nature. Nothing vegetarian on the menu, though. That seemed very odd in this day and age.

A meal to celebrate my parents’ 50th anniversary and Lounge on the Green has more than delivered. Delicious food, a great atmosphere and the staff couldn’t do enough for us - I can’t recommend this place highly enough.

Visited with a group of friends on a Thursday evening in July. Three courses for £33.95 - which included canapés, bread and a middle course - represented fantastic value for an outstanding meal. I had the charred mackerel, hay cooked Lakeland beef and white chocolate and cardamon panna cotta. Could not fault a thing. The beef was served with a little jug of red wine jus on the side which was unbelievably good. It's a small restaurant so make sure you get booked in!

Visited last Saturday evening and enjoyed a beautiful meal. Service was excellent and surroundings very relaxing.

We have now enjoyed a couple of really enjoyable trips to this restaurant on the outskirts of Carlisle, with family and just myself and my wife. Each time the food and service has been pretty much faultless and I would highly recommend it.

I have avoided this place because I thought it was not veggie friendly (no vegetarian option on menu on website).

We had the set menu, but came away hungry, portions for a small child. Nice food but not enough, could have ate the same again.

Booked for a Saturday night has had heard a lot of good reports about the venue, Located in Houghton on outskirts of Carlisle it was well worth the trip. Small and intimate restaurant which had a good feel about it when you go in - only about 40 covers so probably better to book. It was my birthday treat and over the (many) years we have tried loads of restaurants but this place is special. The menu and wine list is inviting and not too expensive. There were 7 in our party and everyone said what a good time we had. Many of us had the slowed cooked ox cheek which was succulent and full flavour as was the ham and fois gris terrine. The lakeland beef with fondant pots and celeriac puree and lovely heritage carrots. What I likeed was the complimentary taster between courses which allowed the chef to have more time to deliver freshly cooked meals. Th place contrates on local produce which is great to know. Cheese (cumbrian) boards, and stick toffee pudding were popular with our party. The service was exceptional and the two yound ladies who looked after us did a great job. Good food needs great service and this is to be found in the Lounge. A couple in the party said in such an intimate dining room it would have been a nice touch for the Chef at the end of the evening to have come round the tables so we could thank him.He was probably wacked after serving up great food and service. We will be back.

Visited Lounge on the Green with my wife for an evening meal and thoroughly enjoyed it. The atmosphere was very relaxed thanks to the friendly staff. The food was delicious, obviously prepared and cooked by people who know what they are doing with food! There are some lovely drinks on the menu too. All this at a very reasonable price, my wife and I are looking forward to going again soon.

Another fabulous evening at the Lounge on the Green, we are incredibly lucky to have this restaurant on our doorstep. Our family of four enjoyed everything we ordered plus the additional courses, my stand out favourite being the rolled tuna starter ... absolutely delicious.

We came here for a birthday dinner and it was lovely. We were given canapés to start, you get an in between course then main and sweet. It’s not cheap and the food was lovely and very tasty but just not a lot of it. As my friend said where are the vegetables. I said they are already on your plate. If it had been a decent portion size the review would be 5 out of 5 but I came away hungry.

A taste experience!!!! Food was excellent. I'll do photos next time....there will be a next time!!! Perfectly executed up to date food. A chilled dinning atmosphere, with attentive pleasant staff. You gotta give it a try.

Friendly organised staff, food was tasty and excellently cooked. We'll worth the money.
