Very disappointed with the meal tonight. I ordered the steak and stilton pie which was small, tasteless and overcooked. Genuinely looked like something you’d buy in a budget super market despite being promoted on the Specials board. Won’t be going back, which is a shame as I like to support the local pubs and restaurants in my area.

Fantastic food, loved the roast beef and roast pork, service very attentive and friendly. Great value for money, definitely recommend 👍👍

We had Christmas lunch here yesterday and it was absolutely lovely. The food was beautifully presented, delicious and nice and hot. Really nice wine too! The staff were attentive but not intrusive and didn't rush us at all. I would definitely recommend a meal out here. I'm certainly going to book for Christmas next year.

I am 58 years old and I have estimated that in that time I have had thousands of roast beef dinners, The Portland's roast beef is the best I have ever had, perfectly medium rare, perfect veg and a great selection of real ales. Now we have all been to a pub and had a nice meal then gone back a few months or a year later, the management or chef has changed and the quality has gone downhill, not here I have been going for the last 7 years and every time it's amazing, I think they have chained their chef to the cooker because it's the same one! I recommend this pub to all my friends and family and we keep returning. Thank you for another lovely meal and great service. Please could you move the whole pub to the mainland so we can go weekly :) p.s. Please bring the same chef!

Wowzers! Christmas dinner with friends at the Portland Inn was amazing. Firstly, the menu was so good it was hard to choose which options to have, because I wanted it all! What we did have was delicious, the staff were incredibly attentive and friendly, and the atmosphere cosy. Highly recommended

Portland Inn offers good value food, the service is excellent and staff extremely helpful. We stopped in for Sunday lunch on the spur of the moment, without a reservation and were able to get a table as it was just after midday. It did get busier as the afternoon went on. There was a ‘pub menu’ and good range of choice on the ‘specials’ board. The food arrived quickly, was well presented, and piping hot. Well worth a visit.

Very lucky to have this lovely pub across the road on our recent break. Great food and service, even with a table of 40 they managed to accommodate us walking in for food and also was kind enough to reserve us roasts for the next day as we didn’t think we would make it back in time for them selling out, as they advised they mostly do! Arrived in Gurnard in the afternoon so decided to walk to this pub for something to eat. Did not book a table which was our fault but they found room for us, staff were really lovely and the fish and chips were brilliant. All really good and can highly recommend.

We had an excellent visit to The Portland Inn, everyone was friendly and the food was fresh and tasty and priced very reasonably. We were served by Alice and she was very attentive and pleasant. My advice would be just go and I am sure that you won’t be disappointed.

I have visited the Portland many times, and their standard menu is fantastic and beautifully home cooked - but make sure you always check out their specials! They had a beef medallions special recently where the beef was tender, cooked perfectly and delicately in a Port and Stilton sauce, served with delicious vegetables including a sweet red cabbage. It might not always be on the menu, but I advise everyone to make sure you check out the specials board, just in case!

Lovely spot, traditional pub with a good food menu. Was made to feel very welcome when arrived and the food was of a high quality.

Visited with family on Tuesday for the “buy one get one half price” burger night. Great burgers, really enjoyed them and really friendly staff working.

Just a short walk away from where we were staying in Gurnard. Good to find it for Sunday lunch. Not the greatest environment but it warmed up as it got fuller. The staff were delightful - friendly, efficient & speedy despite also having to deal with another table of 18. I had roast beef with everything you would expect plus a dish of cauliflower cheese enough for a meal in itself. I should have chosen the light option... Next time... My wife had the light ham, egg & chips with coleslaw & she said it was ample & delicious... perfectly cooked egg - which is always a good trick. She had an espresso after which she said was really very good. The prices are very reasonable.

We always visit this lovely pub when visiting The Island. Today we had our usual warm welcome, great service and friendly welcome for our Border Collie dog. We stayed longer than expected and for the first time sampled their amazing menu. As a vegetarian I can honestly say that their halloumi burger was the best I have eaten. My husband was equally pleased with his meat pie. As usual a great experience and we will be returning soon.

Everything you want from a pub. Whether you are local or come from afar. Had an amazing roast lunch on Sunday and went back for more last night for a tasty burger. Place was busy but had no issues with waiting, but hey, even if we had to wait, the best things are worth waiting for. We’ll be back. To all staff, thank you.

Brilliant Pub, excellent food and super friendly staff. The menu is a mix of pub favourites and exciting different dishes. Highly recommend the Aranchini balls and Thai Fish cakes. Atmosphere is great too with a sunny garden to while away the afternoon. Go, you won’t be disappointed!

We went to this pub for dinner and received a very warm welcome as soon as we walked through the door. The atmosphere was warm and friendly with soft music in the background. Service was very efficient and friendly and drinks were served in good time. The vegetable soup starter is quite frankly the best I have ever tasted! All of the portions were very generous and all of the food was extremely tasty and well cooked. The staff were attentive throughout the evening and always made sure we had everything we needed, including lots of lovely Mermaid Pink Gin and Tonics. I can't thank the staff enough for a fantastic night and another lovely evening of food and drinks on the Isle of Wight.
