Lazy Wave Cafe in Isle of Wight

Nice staff, reasonable price and we love a bit of cash preferred! Good doughnuts and hot chocolate perfect from when you come out the sea!

Second visit to the Lazy Wave; phenomenal, freshly cooked doughnuts, with an exceptional view. Just a few yards from the entrance to the Shanklin; providing much needed energy to get back to the car park!

Situated right at the end of Shanklin Esplanade, at the bottom of the hill up to shanklin chine, is The Lazy Wave. A lovely cafe with plenty of outside seating, friendly staff and a wonderful view of the beach and sea. Hot doughnuts cooked to perfection and latte coffee as it should be, creamy and frothy. If you're on Shanklin sea front, pop along to the Lazy Wave, I don't think you'll regret it

Lovely location and there are tables to sit at. Had an ice cream in a tub which was £3.40, which I feel is somewhat pricey. I have now checked in my records and Blueberries on cliff path towards Sandown sells ice cream in a tub, in fact they put it in a glass bowl, for £2.90 - same supplier and a far more generous portion. It did have a white chocolate star included so maybe that ups the price but I feel that is unnecessary or perhaps could be a choice.

What more could you want than sitting there looking out to the sea, eating hot fresh doughnuts?!! They are amazing, a must if you are in Shanklin. Also really reasonably priced, two doughnuts for £2!!

This cafe has changed hands and it has changed for the worse. We have been coming here over the years and the 99 ice creams used to be excellent but they have changed them so we did not have one. The previous owners used to do good quality food but the new owners only do ice cream and donuts now. There was a young man there playing house music which not everyone wants to listen to. It has really gone down hill. Unfortunately we will not be buying any food or drinks there again.

Very hot day so stopped for an ice cream. Very nice and tasty, pleasant server. Reasonable price. Brilliant location, found some shaded seating and watched the high tide come over the sea wall.

This has changed over the last 2 years. Now more a kiosk, they don't do meals, breakfasts or sandwiches and the drinks are poor. Not the right place for this type of cafe and could see this part of the beach gradually going downhill. Someone who has foresight could make this into a goldmine....

They do donuts, ice cream, a variety of slush, coffee & milkshakes.. Very nice location. We love it here. Highly recommend.

Me and my mum went here several times during our holiday to Shanklin. Every time we bought the fresh cinnamon sugar doughnuts. They were piping hot and had a generous amount of sugar in the bag with them! Staff were polite and made our food quickly. They were a lovely little snack to share if you’re looking for something sweet.

My family and I have been having holidays in Shanklin for over 30 years. We've always loved going to the Lazy Wave for their variety of freshly made sandwiches, salads, home made rock cakes and delicious cheesy chips. Sadly, this version of the cafe doesn't exist any more. It now just serves deep fried doughnuts and ice cream. Although this is a great shame, I understand nothing stays the same and things have to change, so my family and I have just gone elsewhere for our beach lunches, whilst continuing to use this little piece of beach. But today, even that has been spoilt. The Lazy Wave now insists on playing 'House Music', which drifts across the beach, spoiling the tranquility and peacefulness of the area. I asked today if they could turn it down because my elderly, disabled parents (and the rest of my extended family) found the noise an unpleasant addition to the ambience of the beach. The young man working there told me, in no uncertain terms, "no, he wouldn't turn the music down and that I and my elderly, disabled parents, should move somewhere else". Definitely a change for the worst and doesn't bode well for the future of this lovely little patch of Shanklin seafront.

I often buy water or coffee or ice cream here. Lovely service. Today I tried a coffee milkshake. Divine. Absolutely delicious. Service is good. The 2 young men serving were brilliant. Thank you. Excellent location too.

A real gem, quirky and in a perfect location. The ice cream flavours are delicious and the service good. So good we went back for a second visit on our holiday. Dog friendly too. On both visits we thought the young men serving were polite, friendly and helpful. I hope they do well, they deserve to.

Not healthy snacks but great sweet treats! Had the donuts on one day, super hot and fresh, yum. Had ice cream on another night and also great. Not cheap due to location and captive audience right on the beach. Staff were courteous.

Just the spot to stop and take in the view. Delicious milk shakes, doughnuts and coffee. Staff are very accommodating.

Been going to The Lazy Wave for years, sadly now under new ownership. Menu is not what it use too be, very limited. Prices for Coffees are much higher than the previous owners.

These have to be the best do nuts we have had. We went back for seconds and thirds! Kids had ice cream which they really enjoyed. Friendly guy serving. Great outdoor seating area right next to the beach too.

The lazy wave has changed hands it is not what it was like last year they do a very limited menu it is good if you want ice cream or burgers

This is a great little outdoor cafe in a great location just off the beach at Shanklin. We enjoyed the fresh hot doughnuts so much we returned a few days later for more. Take the time to stop, admire the view and munch away.

Such a cute little cafe, and they do excellent fried doughnuts alongside a selection of ice cream, hot food and drinks. We had a lovely time and highly recommend.

This was a great little place with ample space outside to sit down and enjoy the view after walking down the massive hill. It had a small selection of food which was really nice. Burger, chips etc.. The ice creams were really nice too. Reasonable prices with really friendly staff. Just what we was after.

Stopped here halfway round a cycle ride. Excellent value, quick friendly service and very well prepared food. Had a brie panini and hot sausage baguette, both were very good and filling. Location is great too right on the seafront at the quiet end of the Esplanade.

Best ice cream on the seafront. Great location almost on the beach . Bench seating just out of reach of the sea spray . Good choice of flavours or you can choose soft ice cream. It is our go to destination on the esplanade in Shanklin.

I lived in Shanklin for some years when I was growing up, and the Lazy Wave (then known as the Beach Tray Cafe) was where my summer days revolved around. When I come back to visit family still on the island, summer days are still spent on the beach and around the cafe and it is still a great place. Great outdoor seating area looking over the beach, and a great menu with a variety of beach favourites and *really* good prices. It's never gentrified or tried to go pretentious. It's good value and well done food. I absolutely recommend the hot dogs. Dogs are welcome, and there's a resident seagull every year who gets given scraps from the kitchen to look after their chicks - waits patiently on the fence for the scraps and never bothers anyone else - such manners! :)

Great location at the foot of the Chine walkway/end of the promenade for a stop off and a Mr Whippy. Large waffle cone - LOTS of ice cream!!

Somewhere we come to every year, right on the slipway at Shanklin Chine beach and near the Fishermans cottage. Lovely food and friendly people, reasonable prices and hot drinks and ice cream. Kids will love it as chips , burgers and hot dogs too.

Stayed local and this place was great for food and drinks. All prepared freshly to order. Staff polite and helpful. Also sold ice creams large and small...cornets on display to choose from! Would definitely recommend for great food hot and cold at good prices.

Great location, ice cream and chips good. Service shocking. When asked if we would like small or large icecream.. we asked to know the sizes and the owner very rudely and sarcastically said "one is small, one is large" . When I politely asked for clarification he did over exaggerated hand gestures to demonstrate small and large. And so it went in He clearly enjoyed attempting to humiliate people especially in front of a crowd. Sadly our friends were already eating there so we could not walk out. In this day and age of covid we have been trying hard to support local businesses. He is fortunate to be carried by a beach front location.

Ate here yesterday having found it by accident. They only doing take away now but you were free to eat it at there tables. The man who ran it was very nice and was very busy keeping the place clean and washing down tables as soon as someone left. WE had sausage and chips which was £4.50 each. Amazing quality the best chips we had all week and for the money the quantity was fantastic. Shame we found it on our last day as otherwise we would have returned and will next time we are on the island

Not long ago I went for short holiday at the Isle of Wight. I was scrolling through Tripadvisor looking for recommended ice cream shops and a five star Lazy Wave cafe popped up more than a few times. There were no delays and lots of seating. There were no grumpy customers like other cafes and landmarks i had visited, and was so close to the beach with a lovely sea view! The Lazy Wave cafe dished out a reasonable price for three scoops and a flake. Lots and lots of patience as my class ordered over 96 scoops of ice cream and approximately 26 chocolate flakes. wide range of flavours. I put this all together and rate this amazing cafe 5 stars!!!

Ice-cream yum. The lazy wave café is ready to give you your ice-cream . With lots of flavours , sprinkles and sauce and you can't forget the good customer service.

I went here with my class and it was fantastic! The manager, Colin, was very patient as my twenty-six class mates chose what three flavours of ice cream and sauces and toppings they wanted! there were lovely seats with a view of the sea. Every year the year six class goes to the same cafe and it hasn't ever disappointed us, the prices were cheap and there was a wide range of flavours which were so yummy i would highly recommend it, I give it five stars

Great little place nestled at the foot of Shanklin Chine. A great priced mug of tea and very nice it was too. Nice people.

Sit on deckchairs / sun loungers close to this cafe when we visit Shanklin every year.Good choice of hot and cold offerings at very reasonable prices. "Sit in" or takeaway. Very, very clean with everything prepared to order. Owners and staff provide excellent service. They will even present sandwiches on plates with salad garnish on a tray for no extra charge if you are sitting nearby!Good range of hot and cold drinks ( not licenced ) plus ice cream offerings too.Highly recommended!

Very nice place right on the beach. Friendly staff and will accommodate all dietary requirements. Good weather conditions helped as this has outside seating only.

We've eaten here a few times, very convenient for the beach and the chips are tasty. Sandwiches are also very good and the staff are friendly. Price is reasonable too and there is lots on the menu to choose from. My only suggestion would be more comfortable tables and chairs, although give the small space its probably not possible.

Been coming to isle of Wight for years and always stop by for a lunch very friendly great service food always fresh with great choice.

We called into here 3 times during our week's holiday as the range of ice creams is amazing with some unique flavours. The people serving are always friendly. Prices are reasonable and location fantastic, even on a grey wet day.

I never thought of this one but what an obvious combo - soft scoop courtesy of New Forest ice scream (owner here claims to be better the IOW ices) with a portion of whippy on top. Once I overcame my nervousness at not opting for IOW ice cream I indulged and was not disappointed.

Had a walk along the beach on a Sunday afternoon, So stopped off and had a drink and sandwich service was excellent and food was lovely

We stopped here for drinks & ice creams. Lots to choose from and the staff were very friendly. Seating outside was fab and clean. Well worth stopping off here to people watch & enjoy a treat!

This cafe has no inside seating but on a glorious sunny day what could be better than a freshly cooked omlette overlooking the sea? The menu is varied and the food is reasonably priced. Service is fine and we didn't wait long for our food. The cafe has no toilets but there are public conveniences a few yards away. The cafe is not licenced but the coffee is hot and the ice creams looked wonderful. We would return if in the area. Parking is along the promenade.

We've been visiting this café for over 10 years now on holiday. Sandwiches are always very fresh and tasty. Ice cream selection is just fabulous. There are always new flavours each year we come. Charming service - thank you again.

First visited for breakfast after reading the menu, on the hottest day of the year they did not open until 10.30am although the menu said breakfast served until 11am. When we asked what time they opened we were told 'when we get here can't be bothered with the heavy traffic in the morning'. After they had spent about 10mins opening up we asked for three breakfasts the reply was 'I can't do it for another 10 minutes' but it was the way it was said in a really aggressive manner, so we left and went elsewhere. Later in the day we returned to be served under cooked chips and a stale bakewell tart when we complained about the tart the aggressive answer was it is meant to be like that I have been selling them for 15 years along with a a refusal to refund the cost. The owners do not appear to like running this cafe and view customers as a nuisance so best to let them take it easy and don't bother going there.

Like any seafront in high season, some of the eateries in Shanklin can seem overpriced. All of the food in the lazy wave, however, was reasonable and delicious to boot. There's a lovely outside eating area right by the sea, with access to the beach for right after eating. If you need a pitstop while you're sunbathing or swimming, this is the place.

We love the lazy waves cafe, the homemade rock cakes are amazing!! Always pleasant and helpful even when l ask for the milk to go in first for my cup of tea!

Had lunch here on two days of our holiday on the Isle of Wight. It is ideally placed just off the beach. The sandwiches, sausage baguette and chips we had here were lovely and very reasonably priced and the staff were friendly. The only down side was the length of time we had to wait, even when it wasn't overly busy.

Best cafe by far on the sea front. Been going here for years with my parents and have bought my 9month old here for the 1st time too (1st of many im sure) for the best ice-cream cone yet. Reasonably priced, perfect place for a cafe, great owners, and brilliant food and drink. Can't fault it at all.

Whilst on a sponsored walk we stopped for a quick tea and it soon became a feast. Friendliest proprietor and the best views known to man!And hello to Jason Isaac's.

An excellent range of ice creams at reasonable prices.It is run by a very nice couple who offer very friendly service.

had fish and chips they were so dry and not what you expect from a seaside cafe service slow and i think it was the frozen fish so will not get it from there again

Really friendly and helpful staff. Only had an iced coffee (with cream) but it was lovely! Nice location.

Have visited the Lazy Wave many times over the years. They have an amazing selection of ice cream - and some truly imaginative flavours (try the mince pie flavour). Food is great for a beach side café - hot, delicious, and cooked perfectly. Highly recommended.

We only stopped here for ice cream but cafe was really busy and food looked nice. It's situated right on the beach at the top of the esplanade. Great location to sit and watch the world go by especially on a nice day.

We came across this sea front cafe on our way back down the esplanade from Shanklin Chine - spotted the 5 food hygiene rating and ordered lunch straight away.Everything cooked to order and very tasty too. Good value for money - £16.40 for three meals. Would head here when we're back again without hesitation.

Took my family here for lunch from the beach. Great food, generous portions, quick and friendly service. Try the Fuggle-dee-dum burger, it's amazing!

The café is to the far right of the beach; the more secluded end & has great views. Very friendly service and huge choice of café food & drinks at good prices. Food is fresh & tasty. The resident seagull, Smedley is quite a character!

Wandered down to Shanklin Beach and popped in here for tea and ice cream. Lovely choice of ice creams. I had the Turkish Delight and my son went for the Rum and Raisin. Both absolutely lovely, solid and full of flavour. The charming lady who served us even colour co-ordinated the spoons for our tubs! Very nice mug of tea too. Definitely well worth a visit.

My wife and I called in here for a morning snack and ordered tea's, toasted tea cakes and a plate of chips. The tea's were served promptly but it took an absolute age before the tea cake and chips were ready, by this time the tea's were cold and we had to order more drink's.The tea room is well situated on a junction close to the beach with outdoor tables, the only problem was as described.
