Steak was very chewy hard to eat chicken burger was nice but came with a sprinkle of rocket and raw onions we where handed 2 menus and did not know lunch burger did not come with fries we should have been made aware that it came with rocket and raw onions as other customers had fries with there’s

Been coming here for the last 25 years.... at the start 5/5 for food and for a great Saturday night out. Weekdays had the occasional tribute act or spiritualist night. The P!nk act was out of this world. Changes have made recently(since Paul left) over the last few weeks. The food menu has become simplified. Gone are the amazing meals that clearly were made with love and attention to detail. The choices now are very much like wetherspoons, you can probably hear the microwave ping. Gone are the durty fries and the easier to make chips and curry sauce or chips and cheese. The lounge bar is great if you are a bloke wanting a pint of tennants whilst sky sports plays in the background. The best thing about the place is the pub quiz. Hosted by Mac (very funny) usually won by Brian, Homer and Co.

Food is amazing. The 3 for £10 menu fantastic, food is incredible portions are amazing and the price is unbelievable for the amount you get. Barman Paul makes this place, without him it wouldn’t be the same. So welcoming goes above and beyond to make sure you’re happy and makes the night a breeze. Treasure this member of staff!

It is such a shame that the current owners are neglecting this pub/restaurant. We are here on Saturday the 6th of April. The restaurant was not busy only 3 other tables in use. It quickly became apparent that there was only one person working the 2 bars and serving food. When we asked to oder more drinks, the bartender asked us to go to the bar as he was too busy to take the order and deliver the drinks. 2 couples were turned away and I am sure they were less than impressed as it would have appeared to be relatively empty. Our plates were lwft on our table dor over one hour, before we moved them to another table. Having spoken to others since, their experience was the same so it wasnt a one off. It is such a shame as there is nothing else in the area so you would expect the restaurant could have a decent trade. We wont be back.

Sad it's quite Food was lovely, hot and fresh we had main meals and kids food ...spot on staff are brilliant I don't drink beer but apparently it was fantastic, cocktails fab ... negative..,wine isn't brilliant..

Lovely surroundings decorated for Halloween. Food was quite good but took a while to get. Server was polite and attentive.

Booked a funeral tea here a couple of weeks ago. It was outstanding. Booking was so easy. The staff great, made sure there was plenty of food , there was so much. Everthing was made freshly. Sandwiches, finger foods ,etc, home made soup. The scones were fab,no soggy bottoms here. The Inn has changed hands many times in my lifetime,hope the new management are given a fair go. A big thank you guys .

This place has gone through several changes of ownership since 2020, and I really wish it would do well. But after our recent visit, early on a Friday evening, I'm not too confident. The lounge was completely empty. There was only one member of staff on duty, and even though we were the only customers, he barely acknowledged us. We got our drinks, and we were intending to eat there, but the total lack of atmosphere was not very inviting. There was music playing, quite bad instrumental hip hop, quite loud, which I think was for the barman's entertainment, not for the customers' benefit. We had two drinks, hoping the place would liven up. It didn't. We gave up on eating there and went home to cook. I won't be hurrying back.

Just wasn’t to say am so glad this is under new management and I think it will be a wee gold mine fantastic staff and good traditional pub food can wait to come back with the family

Absolute fantastic pub, been many times since its reopening and I can't fault anything! Made very welcome from the moment we opened the door, good food and drinks at amazing prices. I cant wait for many more nights in such a friendly local pub! Good luck to the new owners aswell it's going fantastic so far 😁

Place under new management!! ** staff couldn’t have been any nicer - we had a reserved table and were welcomed with a smile. Lots to do - pool table - darts - jukebox! The atmosphere was great and all the staff were really friendly. Food was so nice the menu has a great variety and we were served with a smile! All you can ask for really! The pub has been spruced up to a lovely standard & the prices for food and drinks were very reasonable! Thoroughly enjoyed our time here and we will be back! :-)

Went along this evening as we seen the place was under new management and they were throwing a kids Halloween party. Got a lovely welcome but that’s were it stopped. We sat for 10 minutes and no one came to take an order. Saw someone else go order at the bar so followed suit. If that’s the rules, then let us know and no problem there. We then waited a further hour for our dinner to arrive. The food was shockingly bad. The roast dinner comprised of 2 slices of cold chewy dry beef, carrots and parsnips that had been boiled to death and some hard roast potatoes. My son had the macaroni which came with burnt chips and my husband had the chicken bites, the portion of which was so small it would have done a toddler. When the waitress came to ask how our food was she said it was the chefs first day and she would feed back then left. Never asked if she could get us something else or refund anything. To top it off the place was a riot. Kids disco was great but no one was looking after their kids so they were just running daft and running under the tables while we were trying to eat. We thought we would be done with our food before the disco started but since it took so long we were right in the middle of it. Lucky enough I took my son up to dance at the disco when one of the punters fell on our table. He was visibly hammered and falling asleep at the table but no one did anything. I think if you’re one of the regulars and you expect this sort of atmosphere then fine but don’t expect to go here for a nice family day out.

This pub has been closed since December 2019 , has been up for lease since. It is a pity as it could be a nice little eatery. , but needs a lot of work.

Really wasn’t expecting too much when a colleague of mine suggested we stop in here for a business lunch but my god I wasn’t expecting it to be so bad. I opted for the mac n cheese and my colleague went for the fish in chips. Sorry but how do you make a mac n cheese taste so bad?? Inferior quality to a poor microwave meal! Stephen’s fish was way over cooked and ridiculously greasy. We both barely touched it and when we complained to the waitress she was having none of it trying to tell us we didn’t know what we were talking about (despite both working in the catering industry) and she claimed she was the owner and rudely asked us to leave. Won’t be back and I urge anyone who appreciates good food to avoid this place. Also the smart remark about Stephens rangers tattoo was totally uncalled for and unprofessional, although it was not surprising given the rest of our experience. WATP

Had a Christmas lunch here. Chicken bite starter was hard as rock. Soup was fine. Main course was tough to cut through although Turkey was okay throughtrouthroughStuffing was so hard couldn’t cut cuinto it aas was the parsnips. throoverdone.

Went in tonight for a wee bite to eat with my daughter. I had the gluten free bacon melt burger! It’s the best gluten free burger I’ve ever had! Gf onion rings were delicious, and even the gf roll was nice! Not often you get a good gluten free roll! My daughter had chips cheese and gravy (which she has a lot) and loved them. Thanks

Staff seem friendly and good with kids, their food seemed so so , starters pretty pathetic and cold, my steak pie fantastic though good point for that, Bride never got her meal though, waitress list said 20 adult meals, there were 21 of us, by the time Bride got meal she was not hungry, and rest of group had desserts as we had to go, chocolate fudge cake worst I've ever had, not a happy experience

Went for a late lunch yesterday with 2 teenagers and a toddler. Two of us are coeliac. I always feel reassured that the food is gluten free. Fantastic gf fish and chips and my daughter had gf macaroni cheese. It was delicious. I was informed kids hot dog and the teens Mexican burger were amazing too! Thanks guys x

Awful food my 3 year old could have cooked a better dinner should have noticed the signs no one else in this place really needs to get a chef

Came here as we’ve just moved round the corner and wanted to try. The food here is amazing and 100% is homemade and tastes great. Staff are really nice and look forward to coming back here soon

Went in here for a couple of drinks with friends&family, I remained sober, bar tender which was the owners son, had a disgusting attitude all day, he complained at 2 children who were unaccompanied by an adult and when confronted about it got extremely aggressive and when we asked for a manager, she informed us she was the owner and it was her son and didn’t want to hear anything else about it and tried to kick us out, disgusting business and disgusting people, should have the place sold to a better group of people!!

Went for a date night with my other half.food was amazing. It was quiet and enjoyable. Will definitely go back.

We were on a walk on a lovely Sunday afternoon. Saw the pub and popped in for a drink. Saw a menu on a table and thought we would order a snack. We got told the menu was not on today as it was a carvery only and it was fully booked.This was fine by us but in the 90 minutes we were there only two tables were used and the rest of the place was empty. Didn’t want a full meal just surprised by the reaction and subsequent emptiness.

The staff here are amazing and especially with my toddler, that can be wild at times. The staff not only had great service when it came to food and drinks ( food is amazing, you defo need to try their dirty fries)! They brought some toys over to keep my child entertained and had her laughing from start of the visit to the end. I actually love the staff and pub so much I have booked my wedding and reception here!

Went to the Polton Inn for a meal with a friend. The dining area was very clean and the staff were friendly. We had creamed mushrooms for starters which were great. We then chose the chicken/ham pie which couldn't be faulted it was full to bursting. Downside was there was no gravy so was a bit dry and they had also run out of peas. Having said that I would go again

I was very impressed with the food available for people with coeliac’s disease. There is a great selection of gluten free food available, more than advised on menu as they will adapt other items. 3 gluten free puddings (sticky toffee pudding, cheesecake, or pavlova!) I didn’t try the cheesecake, but the other two were amazing!!

Warm and friendly welcome by the young man behind the bar and the chef.

Could not fault the Polton Inn. We enjoyed a great and very resonably priced meal. Superb service and hospitality. Highly recommended.

Great food, excellent service and friendly staff. Would not hesitate to recommend. Would love to go there every week but the journey from Dorset is a bit of a trek!!!

We love the choice on their menu. Food is delicious. We used to order from just eat but they appear to not do this anymore which is a shame. Haggis balls are delicious. Staff are friendly, food is well cooked. Not the cheapest place around but it's definitely worth a visit.

We were regulars and as I have said in previous reviews had no.complaints with the place.

Crap food; crap service; crap atmosphere, crap value.... from overseas visiting family. Will NEVER come again

We drive passed on a daily basis but have never eaten here. We met some friends with their young daughter to have dinner. We were the only ones in, but the barman was great. He was welcoming, enthusiastic and knew the menu well. He sorted the high chair, and we were settled quickly.

Went down hill presume different chef only got gourmet burger but was served on cold brioche bun (not toasted) and slice of cold cheese on top will be giving a miss for a while seems to happen often they get a decent chef they leave and this happens and no loyalty card now

Been here a few times always had a decent meal last visit a couple of weeks ago nothing to complain about very nice

Absolutely fantastic, food was amazing service was brilliant and made to feel so welcome. Great value for money. Great place for lunch or dinner family friendly too, recommend a visit if you haven't been yet.

New experience for me but the Guinness and food were excellent and the staff could not be more helpful. ...great friendly atmosphere .....definitely a must visit! !

Todos perdido 2 horas de nuestras vidas. Mi orden nunca llegó. Mi pedido amigos nunca apareció. Mis otros 2 amigos hamburguesas aparezca congelada con los panecillos quemados. Un queso macaroni apareció de la nada que nadie pidió. La última pizza que tenían para los niños robaron el show (ver foto) y me refiero a realmente en este día y edad con tripadvisor y los medios sociales. . . . . . Hagan un esfuerzo. Indiscutiblemente, mi experiencia peor dinining. Yo diría que mi peor comida pero nunca tuve uno. Me alegro de manera después de golpeo lo que estaba tirado de la cocina. Nunca volveremos a poner un pie en este lugar de nuevo. Total desastre.

Hemos estado en la polton inn muchas veces en últimos meses, nunca me ha decepcionado con la comida. Siempre es mejor llamar a un viernes o sábado por la noche antes de ir ya que pueden tener funciones y restaurante cerrado,

Comida encantadora, junto con un personal increíble. La comida era estupenda y el servicio era rápido. Chef era genial y los niños estaban completamente feliz!! Barato beber, lo que hace que todo incluso mejor. Sin duda volveremos!!

Went along to the Polton inn with my family after been told about it from a friend. The food was delicious and staff were top notch couldn't do anymore for you. Friendly approachable. WillDefinitely be back. Keep up the good work

I have eaten here on numerous occasions but not recently. It was always, OK for the money, but after today I will not be going back.First of all we had to look for menus ourselves even though there was no-one else in and the bar was empty with a redundant waitress standing behind the bar. When the food arrived we then had to go and look for sauces etc and go into a drawer where the menus where stored to find cutlery.The burgers were awful. I lifted the top of the roll and saw an overcooked obviously frozen burger slapped onto a dry roll. There were no sauces, salads or anything. I complained as it was supposed to have salad and was then given a bowl of salad some of which had seen better days. A bit like the Polton inn itself!!!!

My husband, my 3 year old daughter, mother in law and myself very much enjoyed our dinner one Sunday evening at the Polton Inn. Clean, tidy and staff were all lovely and the food was very tasty I almost licked my plate! Its seem to be back on top firm ut just needs customers and word of mouth xx

Visited the polton inn last night for a quick dinner and was pleasantly surprised. The decor looks freshly painted and modern. The food was excellent "pub grub" and was very reasonably priced (even without the loyalty card). The portions were a good size and everything felt really freshly cooked. Will definitely be back.

We have been to the polton in at least 8 times in the summer holidays! The food is fantastic, has a great children's menu and the staff are fantastic. Very friendly and helpful. It is definitely our new local :)

The PI Scottie pubs have made a big a difference. Friday evening meal at the lowest price and best value for money locally.I personally eat everywhere locally and can recommend the PI and enqire about 25% discount card.This visit I enjoyed the rib eye at £13. And it was on a plate. ( hate these bread board dishes) just give me a normal meal .Will be back, why drive by only if they are holding an event for a group or large party.

Went here for lunch and was quite surprised, the whole place has been done up and the staff were most welcoming and helpful, food was very enjoyable, and the portions were more than adequate great place for s family lunch if you've not been here before it's certainly worth a visit.

After visiting a couple of times recently I can only say it has been much better, great friendly staff and good cheap pub meals.

Went to a wedding reception in this pub and the food was delicious.The atmosphere was very laid back and the staff were always on hand to help when needed but stayed in the background when not..Did not try any of the meals on the main menu but did observe a few being given to other people and they looked good..

We took my uncle out for lunch and found the service food and price was very good would go back. We where given a loyalty card and received 10% off

My wife, the kids and I went to the Polton Inn for a late lunch today.We were seated on arrival and given some menu's, unfortunately the menu advertised online was not the menu in the restaurant and the price of most items was more expensive on the restaurant menu we received at the table.We were informed that there was no soup today.I asked our waiter for a description of an item on the menu (Scottie Dog) after the waiter asking the chef on 3 occasions to clarify what the item was, this was to be a hotdog in a finger roll with haggis and a whisky sauce. I went over to the bar to place the order for food and some drinks, when I paid the bill, it had come to more than I thought, I asked for a receipt to which I was given a hand written total of the bill, I then requested an itemised bill at which point the manager come over and asked if we would be ordering anymore drinks as we had been charged twice for the drinks order, I was later given a refund for the difference.For our starter, my wife ordered the pate` with toast, unfortunately this did not come with butter, when I requested butter and the waiter brought some over, the butter was so hard that the toast was cold by the time the butter had melted. I ordered the haggis balls with a whisky sauce and side salad which was fine.For our mains, my wife ordered macaroni cheese with chips and side salad, this was fine, however my Scottie Dog consisted of 4 no. tinned hot dogs on a bed of over cooked haggis in a soft finger roll with a whisky sauce, chips and a side salad, I guess I was just a bit disappointed that I got tinned hotdog's, I could have had that at home. I picked at it but left around 80% of the food.The kids food was fine and they were given a colouring in book and some pencils to colour in, unfortunately the colouring in pencils were as blunt as a bread stick.For me, a sign of a good restaurant is informative staff and not making mistakes like over charging (this does not leave a good impression) and I guess I didn't expect to be served tinned hotdog's. We were the only people dining in the restaurant at the time and I now think I know why.I can honestly say, this is the most dis-satisfied I have ever been after going out for Saturday lunch.This is the first time I have ate in the Polton Inn for a number of years, after my experience, I think it will be the last time for a lot more years

Went in for lunch with family looking to enjoy our meal.No steak pie. This was before 2pm, no explanation given why not. A member of the party almost said we won't bother then, but we were hungry so decided to stay.Ordered and waited a good 20-25mins for our meals.One of the meals (adult size) was the size of a child's portion. Peas missing from the order so had to ask for them. They hadn't been drained properly and water fell onto the plate.In fact the child's portion of fish fingers was larger!!! Battered fish was floating in grease. I actually had to use a napkin to try and absorb some of it. Batter wasn't cooked properly as it was too thick. When I told the guy he apologised and asked if I wanted anything. I said no.(I'd rather be shot than poisoned).8Ordered apple crumble and custard. Noticed on the receipt it was apple & blackberry crumble. When I stated I hadn't asked for that the guy behind the bar asked the chef who apparently said yeah it was on a menu but they weren't doing it!!Was informed this was the second time he had had a complaint about the fish batter not being cooked properly.OK! Fair enough he deducted price of fish and chips and crumble. I got a free drink. At £9.95 for fish and chips, it's rather pricey. Beware the 2 meals for £10 doesn't have that much to suit all palates.Won't be back and certainly wouldn't recommend.Needs to get decent chef, decent menu, and decide what's on the menu and what's not!!

The staff are lovely and so is the food but some my food was cold and my gran asked for soup. When waiter delivered it - was cold and the waiter spilt the soup on the plate so half the soup was gone before my gran touched it and they didn't even top it back up.

This establishment has recently been taken over AGAIN. It's a pub with a very small kitchen and pub food.

I have just had another nice meal in the Polton Inn, fish and chips The Chef on duty ,Kevin was very accommodating. I was a little disappointed with the waiting time as there was only one member of Staff - Amanda covering the waitressing,the bar and the lounge bar. The restaurant was very busy so I had to wait to order. More Staff is needed to keep the Customers happy (especially the regulars)

You can't beat this place for fish and chips - they have other nice meals on the menu as well, but my partner and I go for the fish and chips each time, as the fish is lovely and fresh done in a nice light batter, and the chips and accompanying vegetables are all you need for a really nice and VERY good value for money meal.

On the 25th of July we had an 18th Birthday Party for our daughter at the Polton Inn, the hall holds 80 people. David organised the booking and helped us throughout. The buffet put on by the Team was marvellous from sausage rolls, wraps, sandwiches to gateau's and apple pies! Delicious!! The DJ was great too, playing a whole host of songs present and past! Everyone was up having a boogie!! There were also security on the door from the start until the very end. Drink prices were very reasonable. We would highly recommend David and his Team at the Polton Inn for Parties ours was superb!!! Thank You David and Your Team a great night was had by all!! :-)

I have had a few meals over the past year and have enjoyed everyone of them. FIsh and chips delicious. Took my sister and brother in law today..they both thoroughly enjoyed 50th heir meals..New Yorker and Pulled pork burger. My hubby had steak. We will be back for more.

An invitation from my old football team to have lunch with the players, officials and committee members on a Saturday afternoon was too good to be missed at a venue that has had a good reputation in the past but has had frequent changesof management in the last few years...I was aware it was under new management because they had fly posted the community announcing their arrival..The dining area is very light and airy with seating arrangements to suit what you desire..this day we had exclusive use from 1.pm-4p.m for 20....On arrival the dining area was set up for our party and looked a treat..somebody had taken great care in the setting and table decoration.The Officials had asked for menus prior to the day and all the choices had been pre-ordered...A decent selection of starters..mains ..and sweets..completed with coffee...at a group price that I thought was very generous..maybe because it was an under 21 team .and have a good repution in the town as a major contributer to the community...don't know but say again generous.I stuck to a traditional soup...which was excellent and freshly made....Had homemade steak pie and all that goes with.it..and to finish apple crumble..again very good both the filling and the topping..If this is the new owners standards then it will do well and a return visit is on the cards for me when I have overseas visitors later in the year because I think the new owners will maintain their current standards.At our allotted time we moved to the very well appointed bar and lounge to complete our day...A nice experience with pleasant and very accommodating staff...worth a visit because of the atmosphere food service and prices.

we came across this Restaurant so thought we would give it a chance. Place looks nice and well kept with an outside decking area for drinks. Meal was good and we only had main courses I had an Italian chicken dish which I enjoyed and partner had the steak pie which I also tried which was nice also. Our boy got to eat free and had his usual sausages and chips. Service was ok and had check backs and more drinks offered. Overall nice venue for a quiet family meal and will be going back for meals and possibly some entertainment on one of their tribute nights

Was out for a drive with the family and we came across The Polton Inn, Lots of parking and very clean. Has a great out door decking area which will be great in the summer. We had the 2 main meals for only £9.00 and or wee boy eat for free. Service was a wee bit slow but nothing to worry about. Food came with a smile and checked if we wanted any more drink and later did a check back on us. All in food and drink cost us £19.15.....with be back
