Old Colliery in Midlothian

We booked a table for Sunday lunch but there was no need as this new Marston's pub was very quiet on arrival. We ordered a starter and Roast beef lunch. Food came quickly. Good quantities but wasn't particularly flavoursome. Piped music a little on the loud side for us. Pleasant staff who regularly checked all was well. Good value at under £50 including two coffees and two alcohol free drinks.

Popped in for a coffee before attending a nearby hospital. Also to book table for a meal after that appointment. Firstly our booking was taken by a waitress then we were told by a manager that no tables were able to be booked as there was a kids Halloween party on at 1700hrs. So we sat as directed at a nearby table for our coffee. Before we had even finished at 1520hrs, we were asked to move tables as the area was needed to set up sound equipment for the party. All in all, it was hardly friendly and welcoming and staff seemed disinterested at best. We usually visit the Marstens in Dunfermline and can honestly say there is a huge chasm between the two venues. Certainly won't be visiting the Old Colliery again!

It was a quiet afternoon. Food was tasty enough (pub grub). Service was good. Friendly and attentive staff.

I have been to the old colliery a good few times they put on some fantastic events for the kids,my daughter loves them, the staff are soo helpful nothing is ever to much for them, the food is amazing aswell always hot and on time will keep coming back again and again Jamie is a very good server as well

We stayed in the car park in our Camper on Saturday and Sunday evening. We called ahead to check this was ok and the staff member on the phone was friendly and helpful. We didn’t get chance to go into the pub until Sunday evening. However, every time we interacted with any staff they were so friendly and the leaflet we were given with the bus details was so helpful. The food we had when we did visit was just what we needed after walking round the City all day. Absolutely fabulous pub, fab staff and a brilliant place for a stopover in our Camper. Thank you so much.

My friend and I eat here every week. The food is always good and it is very reasonably priced. Usually we are served by the lovely Andrea, who is always cheery and has plenty of chat.

Great food which arrived promptly. Mixed grill and a nice burger with a cider. Service was quick and friendly, thanks Sam. Place set up for Halloween so a bit of fun too.

Haven't been here for a while it's a nice place, food was nice, didn't have long to wait to get shown to a table. They have different offers on each day of the week.

Acknowledged at the front door as soon as we entered, shown to our seats and handed menus. Asked if we would like to order drinks which we did and then order taken for our meals. Slight delay on the drinks for some reason and didn’t come till just before our meals. Meals arrived very quickly and as per usual very lovely. Staff were very attentive. Will definitely be back

Andrea was lovely, made for a nice atmosphere, was very helpful and pleasant. Nice seating area. Good options from lunch light menu which was perfect portions for us especially on a hot summer's day. The fish and chips I had were excellent beautiful fresh fish perfectly cooked with light crisp batter and crispy chips washed down with wee fruity class of house white. My mum had the gammon steak which she loved and the scampi for my Aunty also well received. 3 people, two courses each, 2 wines and one soft drink for just under £50 with excellent service and nice surroundings what's not to like.

Very uninterested staff, make sure there isn't a family fun day as the music is so loud you can't have a conversation.

We had lunch and drink in the late evening as well. Food was OK, nothing special but still good quality. Service was fast and perfect. Really kind staff, helpful and patient (we're German and didn't understand everything in the first place, but things were explained a second and third time when needed). The toilets were clean, at lunch and nighttime. We could spend the night in the carpark with our campervan. The staff even gave us a paper with helpful information about public transport to the city centre. The carpark was quite at night, great sleep. The place is also very dog-friendly. Treats, water and even meals available. The only thing that we didn't like was the coffee. It looked and tasted lime too much water and too little coffee.

Great food, fantastic service. Andrea and Haylie looked after us throughout and we will definitely be back.

My wife and I visited on 9 September. The food was as good as always and the service by Sam was great. Love coming here.

Had a snack and soft drink whilst getting on with some work here. Lovely, calm place. Sam was very welcoming and my companion (Pip the spaniel) enjoyed the treats and fresh water from the doggy table.

The atmosphere was amazing, the food is great too, and the servers Alex and Sam were very friendly and attentive! Definitely we will be back 😊

This place is truely awesome! The owners are so nice and helpfull. I'm staying with my campervan in their carpark and immeadiatly got a pamflet with info on how to go to Edinburgh and back. Very helpfull. When I got back, I bought a nice drink and they lended me a adapter to charge my laptop. My small Dog Pip was more then welcome. She got water, bisquits and pets. If I wanted to I can even buy her her own dinner! I stayed the afternoon to rest a bit and ordered fish&chips. Truely delicious and a big portion! Tonight I am welcome to use their restroom and even get some drinking water for my van. I can't state how much these people made my day! I feel so welcome.

Super friendly pub. Great menu choice and attentive staff. Can absolutely recommend. Great if you want a pub stopover in a campervan too. Try this pub if you're travelling to Edinburgh as a pit stop it's well worth it. Nice little play area for kids too

We ate our evening meal here, and the food was good and the staff are lovely. We were allowed to stay overnight in their carpark in our motorhome whilst on our way to the Highlands.

The food was served fresh and hot not a long wait, the starters were promptly served possibly could have been a little more generous. one plate was a little less generous on the chips and it would be nice to have option of the chunky chips rather than just fries with the burger as the chunky chips were very tasty. staff were courteous and polite, could do with a few more adult choices of non-alcoholic cocktails

Having visited the Old Colliery in our camper, we would recommend to anyone visiting Edinburgh.

We enjoy coming here for Sunday dinner. We were served by Andrea, she is so pleasant and very accommodating. We do not have big appetites, but it is no problem to serve us the children's roast dinner. It is great value for money as blue light discount is taken off the food.

Warm welcome, helpful staff, good food well worth a visit.

Just what you expect from a family pub. It was pretty quiet so can't vouch for it when it's busy however fodd was super quick and very good. Staff were lovely and the pub was clean. Didn't have vanilla ice cream for dessert but they happily swapped for a different flavour. Would recommend for a family visit.

We were also in Edinburgh at a very busy time on our tour of England. We decided to park outside and take the bus into town. We also spent the night in the parking lot and had a very nice time in this restaurant. The staff are really very friendly. The food is also super tasty and you immediately feel welcome. Very accommodating and helpful. We were also allowed to use the toilet after the visit. Thank you. Can really recommend this restaurant to everyone.

Nice shop, good food, super nice operator/service. We were in Edinburgh with the motorhome and the operator had no problem with us staying overnight in the parking lot. Bus stop right in front of the door, you can get to the center in 40 minutes for 2 pounds without changing on line 33. It couldn't be better or cheaper. So eat there and then take a tour of the city!!!!

Come here every week, Andrea is brilliant, bringing great banter with your meal. The deals are worth the price. It's also dog friendly.

Very small portions for the prices, but food is good.

Firstly, I was overcharged for my drink. I showed the person behind the bar and she rectified the problem. My point is that I might not have spotted it which would not have been good! Also, when you buy a double spirit at the bar you are charged for 2 singles when on your table service app you can buy a double spirit for 35p less! I only saw this after purchasing 2 doubles at the bar and I was left 70p out of pocket and was not offered a refund. And lastly, to charge £1.90 for a dash if diet pepsi is daylight robbery!!! All in all a very expensive visit!!

Top experience from the time I entered to the time I left

We stopped over in our campervan and were welcomed by the lovely friendly staff, Aimee and Annie. We were given a table where we could watch football (it was during the Euros) and our wee dog was given treats and water. The food was reasonably priced and tasty. All in all, a great place to stop on the way to the coast.

Popped in for a last minute Sunday lunch which certainly did not disappoint. Great service from Sam and the team. Cracking play area for young kids which our granddaughter really enjoyed. Will return in the future.

As always very good visit the boss was great. The girls brillant. Dog menu excellent. Meals very nice the 30 percent off main meals especially during these hard times very welcome .water also provided for dogs nice touch .

We had a birthday meal here. The service really is superb. Coming from a hospitality background, I felt very well cared for. Nicely done. Food was perfect and top marks for the presentation and flavour of desserts. Thanks guys.

Highly Recommended We stood there with the motorhome and felt very welcome. Eating and drinking excellent.

There were 7 of us including a 1 year old. One of us had soup and it was tepid. The steak I had was very fatty and ended up being taken home to the dog. My son's steak should have been medium rare and it was well done, most of that went home to the dog. My Mum ordered a hot dog with crispy onions, when it arrived there were no onions. I asked if she could have some brought to the table. The server came back and told us there were none left!! Not even offered something else. Most of that was left too. Won't be back, waste of money.

Good value for money as we were using a discount voucher. Clean ,well laid out restaurant/bar. Just wish there had been option to sit away from football screen..husband had no such complaints!

Huge compliments to the chef. Had pizza for the first time here. We are just back from Italy and I have to say this pizza beat a pizza I had in Italy from a highly recommend restaurant. The dough was just right, sauce on point and mozzarella how it should be, 9/10 cos nothings perfect. Will absolutely be trying more. Food is always good here but I have my favourite dish now. Come here quite a lot and always trying something new.
